Vision: 20/20, Stars: 5/5!! Went for my annual eye exam and it was a great experience. Dr. Amy Rojo was awesome, she answered all of my questions and helped recommend contacts based on my concerns (eye dryness) and budget friendly. I've been to places where it feels like they are pushing products/procedures but they were always upfront on what was included vs what was extra (plus she gave me some coupons!!). They were also cool with me buying the contacts myself (I like to shop around for the deals) rather than with them. If you're walking take the stairs by Tower Villas and they are suite 1 (on the far corner). The office itself was small but clean. Overall, definitely recommend Dr. Rojo for your eye exams! read more

I ordered a one-year supply of contact lenses for $1,000 (after insurance) and was told they would arrive in 3-5 days, which mattered because I had an upcoming trip (this was mentioned on the call). I received an email receipt confirming the order, and my credit card was charged in full. Four business days later, I called to ask for a status update and was told they were never actually ordered. Despite taking my money and sending a confirmation email, no one noticed the mistake and no one followed up. I only found out because I called. Because of this, I was left without contacts for my trip. The only solution offered was a trial set in the wrong prescription. I ended up just cancelling the order overall, and will hopefully receive the refund. This does not fix the inconvenience, stress, or complete lack of professionalism. There was no clear explanation for how this happened and no real effort to make it right. This reflects extremely poor office management and disregard for patients' time and money. I would not recommend ordering contacts from this office. read more

The quality of service and eyeglass lenses have declined significantly since Dr. London sold the practice to a private equity firm. I tried and tried to get glasses that worked as those Dr. London made but couldn't. I went to another much more satisfying practice. I've been very pleased with services provided by Virginia Vision Associates and, in particular, Dr. Kraff. My wife had been using this practice for her eye care for several years and when another practice provided an incorrect refraction for new lenses, I decided to give VVA a try. Dr. Kraff was warm, friendly, and fully and clearly responded to my questions. It was easy to make an appointment and I found all his colleagues friendly and helpful. The practice seems very busy (which is a good sign(!)) but they have figured out how to efficiently work with those seeking their assistance. read more

I have been seeing Dr Lobaugh for some time and honestly should have provided this review sooner. I knew right away Dr Lobaugh IS FANTASTIC. She is so caring and calming by nature and knowledgable! When I have concerns about something she is happy to answer and doesn't make me feel belitted in her presence even though she is the doctor. The staff at the front desk are also kind. A big thank you to Elana with my most recent order for contacts! Reason being is because I came across something that I brought to their attention with the order and she made the correction so easy for me! To Respond to your comment about Contacting your location manager, it was she who told me that they would only sell me lenses if I purchased new frames. And that it was my fault that they broke my frames. Everyone who is reading this, this is a horrible business that was bought out by a large conglomerate after the original owners son, dr Larry London sold it. After I complained, Dr. London consent it to replace the frames. . I was told by the employees that it was he who told future employees not to sell me lenses without selling me a brand new pair of frames so they could make money. Stay away from this place they are a mess. read more

It was very easy to schedule an exam with them over the phone. After arriving I only waited a few minutes before someone took me back to do my initial tests. After that I only had to wait a minute or two to see the Dr. He did a very thorough job and was able to update my prescription in my left eye so things are much clearer now. I opted for retinal imaging instead of dilation which was $39 and not covered by insurance, but both the front desk staff and the Dr. made it clear you knew about the charge beforehand so nothing was a surprise. Will definitely be back and will recommend them to anyone who needs an eye Dr.! read more

Amazing!! There was no wait and they checked every cost with me before. During the exam Dr. Mahal was amazing, she got to know me and asked about my previous eye exams /health history. Then she went on to explain my eyes to me very thoroughly with pictures and pausing to answer every question I had. After decades of expecting and receiving the highest level of care from Virginia Vision, it is so sad to see how everything seems to have changed there with the departure of Dr. London and Dr. Whitescarver. On my most recent visit, I felt rushed by the optometrist and, as a consequence, received glasses that did not work for me. The techs fitting my glasses seemed content to discount my concerns. In the end I paid for lens that I did not receive and that I am still not entirely happy with. The practice did not respond to my email nor has the doctor returned by calls. read more

I saw Dr. Lobaugh for the first time today at VVA. It was a great experience from beginning to end. The front desk staff, the optician, and Dr. Lobaugh were professional yet warm and personable. I've been in glasses for over 20 years and contacts for 16, so I've experienced my share of eye doctors and their businesses. This has been the best one. I had an excellent eye doctor with a beautiful office and vast selection of frames when I lived in Philly but her staff just wasn't professionally polished enough. This office has customer service covered at every angle. Another plus was the optician. I tried on several pair of glasses and even texted my friends and boyfriend pictures before I made a decision. I have been seeing Dr. London for at least four years. I think he's a great doctor and appreciate the time he takes to check in with me, my health and of course answer my questions about my vision. His staff is extremely nice. I love the location; there's always a parking space. Having Saturday office hours has made it convenient to pick up glasses. Lastly the most recent glasses I bought there have been my all time favorite. I have been wearing glasses since I was 13; I've received more compliments on this pair than any frames in the past. Definitely don't recommend going there. After I got charged & my insurance got used they brought me the wrong pair which took 2 weeks to come in. Then they ordered the new pair (2 more weeks) and when it arrived they refused to give it to me because they are saying the insurance (who they had a discounted contract with) didn't pay the full price. Stay away- they will tell you one price and then bill you another! I'm always wary when physicians spend more time pushing merchandise on you than treating you, which was my experience at Virginia Vision Associates. Still, I didn't make a big deal out of it at the time, because they seemed pretty nice and I had no problem saying I wasn't interested. However, after what has happened since the appointment, I feel compelled to write a review. First, the office is situated in the back of an old condo building and apparently still relies on a hanging file folder system for keeping track of patient records, which I didn't think I'd seen in use since the 1980's. After starting my appointment, the staff went full-huckster mode on me, trying to convince me to buy glasses, sunglasses, various bundles of contact lenses, and repeatedly trying to get other employees there to consult me on which glasses to buy then and there (after I had told them I wasn't interested), and telling me repeatedly that my insurance would cover it, which I'm glad I didn't believe (more on that in a sec). Judging by the office decor and the aforementioned file system, I'm sure they probably don't realize all of their glasses are available online for less money, so I politely said "no thanks." I checked out, and was told I owed one amount for the contact lens exam, and that I was covered for the rest. That was in January. Fast forward to April, when I get a bill in the mail for an additional amount. Confused as to why I was being billed again after already settling my account at the office, I called in the morning to inquire further. I was told that they needed to investigate and would call me at 1:30pm. At 3:30pm, having not received a call, I called again. This time the staff was very short with me, and told me that I owed what I owed and that they had no way of knowing what my insurance would charge. "Insurance policies can change and there's nothing we can do about it" she told me. I explained to her that when I was in in January, I was told my balance was at zero. Rudely, she said "You need to take it up with your insurance company." I asked for a copy of the insurance claim, and she said she'd mail it, and then hung up on me! My advice is stay away from this place. They are unprofessional, dishonest, will spend your entire appointment trying to sell you anything and everything they can, and don't seem all that experienced. Update: Dr. London, I've read your response to my review, as well as those posted my others. Perhaps I could have worded it differently, but your response is proof-positive why customers should think twice about visiting your establishment. First, instead of addressing the complaints that your staff was short and unprofessional (for example, telling a customer you'll look into their file and call them back and then not doing it), you come off as defensive. Second, if you do not know what a patient will owe, it's perfectly reasonable (and expected) for you to say so. If you don't know, or if there are caveats related to the charges, it is your responsibility to tell me that and not that I am 100% covered and owe nothing then surprising me with a bill three months later. Finally, you are taking to social media and referencing specific patient cases to defend your business. I haven't taken the hippocratic oath myself, but I'm fairly certain it contains a line or two about protecting patient privacy. This was your response to another complaint on here: "9/20/2014 I am very sorry you felt my reaction was "frosty." It was not my intention at all. I was only trying to accommodate you when I offered a courtesy reduction in our exam fee. You were scheduled for that time, and I was trying to help make it as convenient as possible for you. You then declined my offer, and upon leaving asked for free contact lens samples. I could not provide this, as you made it clear I would not be your eye doctor in the future. Our office prides itself on patient care. My staff and I are dedicated to our patients and the service we provide." Ha. So you are calling out a patient for requesting contacts on a public forum and then immediately say that you and your staff are dedicated to your patients! Perhaps you should be more receptive to criticism. So here's a bit of constructive criticism for you- get somebody else to manage your social media! read more

Even though I don't live in Virginia anymore and even though this office doesn't accept my insurance, I have continued to see Dr. Lobaugh for the last three years. In addition to knowing her stuff, she is a very nice person and she actually cares about my vision and overall health. She has spent a lot of time with me making sure that my vision is the best it can be (which is never going to be perfect, btw) and I really appreciate that. Rather than just prescribing me drugs for my dry eyes she suggested that I take Omega 3 pills to remedy the problem naturally. It's stuff like that that makes her stand out. Also, I can't tell you how many doctors' offices I have been to in the DC area where the front desk staff treats you like you're a MAJOR inconvenience and possibly the stupidest person in America. Dr. Lobaugh's office is not like that at all. I have never had a problem getting an appointment, they are never rude, and they willingly provide my prescription so that I can get my contacts filled at a cheaper place. I can't believe I haven't left a review here yet. I have been seeing Dr Whitescarver for 6+ years and I can't say enough good things. They have reserved parking spots in the adjacent parking garage. The front office staff is amazing- they have never been anything but a pleasure to work with and talk to. I really like that they have a little glasses store in the back- one stop shop! I'm a huge fan of Dr. Lobaugh. I came in last week with a recurring eye problem and she took it very seriously. I had to wait for about a half hour, but she personally came out and apologized for the delay. She immediately diagnosed my problem and was clearly concerned for my well-being. She proscribed me the proper medication and, without rushing me through the exam, insisted that I come back two days later for a check up, since she wanted to see me before she left on vacation. After escorting me to the front desk, she asked the receptionist to make room for me on the calendar. My eye cleared up right away. I'll be going back at the end of the month for my yearly exam and look forward to seeing Dr. Lobaugh again. read more

Glad to find an eye doctor's office where I like both the doctor and the front desk staff. I could tell they were a popular place though because they had limited appointments available when I called and those were probably 3 weeks away. Dr. Lobaugh was great and very friendly. I'm a contacts person and don't wear my glasses during the day. I'd had some contact irritation recently so we talked about that for awhile and she gave me several options about how to proceed. They never pushed anything on me (like a new pair of glasses) which I appreciated. The wait time for an appointment isn't bad, but the waiting room seems to be pretty packed - I've been at lunch time and after work as well. Saw Dr. Whitescarver today for the first time, after a strong positive recommendation from my fiance. This small shop is run by extremely friendly and competent staff and the entire experience was enjoyable. Pricing was competitive with other places I have been in the DC area. When I mentioned I might order my contacts online to save $$, the staff even looked up pricing to provide a comparison for me--even if it meant not ordering through them. Dr. Whitescarver gave me her full attention and even did the pre-exam testing stuff herself. She also gave me samples and suggestions for a few concerns I had about my eyesight. I had been putting off having my eyes examined hoping that my eyesight would magically get better (not happening) and finally made an appointment now that my insurance would allow me to replace the glasses I lost 2 years ago. They verified my insurance coverage when I called to make an appointment so I wouldnt be hit with any surprises related to coverage later -- much appreciated! I had an appointment with Dr. Whitescarver and I really liked her demeanor for my eye exam. I needed my pupils dialated but since I didnt have glasses she wanted to have me come back (at no extra charge!) and have it done when I picked up my glasses. The person who helped me select the glasses was really helpful and patient. They had a really great selection and I love the Kate Spade glasses they helped me select! My glasses were ready for pickup 2 days after my appointment! Overall, I loved this office! If only all doctors offices were this professional, timely, and helpful! read more

Dr. London was about 20 minutes late in attending to me, but when it was my turn, he was efficient, thorough, and very helpful. The only minor negative thing I experienced was the fact that they're so awesome so they have a ton of patients. Therefore, it was difficult to schedule a last-minute appointment. We have been patients of Virginia Vision Associates for many years, and in particular Drs London and Whitescarver. They are top notch clinicians and our family leaves very satisfied after our thorough annual eye exams. I would give them five stars for the consult and front desk experience. Unfortunately the optician experience has really tanked since the optician manager left in 2020 (my best guess on date). It's really unfortunate because the clinicians are excellent. Wearing glasses daily I am expecting to invest in nice frames, lenses, high index coating on an annual basis and I imagine the practice owners would want us to continue purchasing glasses there. However, the message I got from my interactions with the new optician manager could be summarized as "stay away!". My family member had a similarly negative experience. We'll keep coming for our consult but purchase glasses elsewhere. read more

I saw Dr. London who was great, his exam was very thorough. I went to MyEyeDoctor in Clarendon about a year ago and was scarred for life until I went here, it was so refreshing to go to a place that made me feel comfortable. They have a great selection of frames, anyone should be able to find something they like here. They carry brands like Coach, Betsey Johnson and David Yurman, all of which are fabulous. read more
