Since then I have had a host of hair nightmares; just like I did during my last stay in Florida (Miami). Not sure what is going on with the stylist in FL; in Miami I had to resort to flying my stylist in every 3 months. Backstory St. Pete: My first stylist was late and did an so-so keratin treatment. I was in need of color so I went back...he was late again so I left. Found someone to dye my hair (a very well known salon) - that lady did the color wrong so they had to redo and do it darker since it was such a mess. Then I needed a partial sew-in...found a salon (well if you want to call it that)...I walked out looking beyond HOT MESS. I wanted to cry but I was so upset I could not. I came home and found Versatile Styling here on Yelp! I was able to be seen immediately (even though they were closing) and the stylist was patient (remember I was frazzled) and did a pretty good partial sew in and an awesome blow-out. She has a good selection of products and a wide range of talents. Please try this place.

I moved to St. Pete 2 years ago and I was happy to finally find a black hair salon that was knowledgeable, professional and cared about the health of my hair. The owner, Sharon, is professional, experienced and kind. Sharon and her staff/team of lovely daughters are extremely attentive and organized. Jessica perfectly timed and watched the coloring as it was on, to take it off as soon as she saw my hair got the tint. I only partly colored my hair, just trying to cover up a streak of very visible grays. She picked the perfect color to blend in with my natural hair. She was fast, friendly, and very skilled at her craft. I also got a nice haircut to get rid of all my dry ends and it looks so much better and healthier. Reasonable pricing, too. The ladies here could braid stitches into skin they braid so tiny and tight!…read more After spending $60 (it was supposed to be $50 but they kept the $10 change-who does that) and my precious time here, soon as I got home I began the crazy task of attempting to unravel the braids to prevent from getting irreparable damage from too tight braids. I told them several times to make the braids bigger and to not to braid too tight so as not to cause damage and they did it anyway. Nothing I could say would have made a difference. I had my own hair braided into a cornrow style going back. They were very much accustomed to women bringing in weave to add and did not seem to care for the idea of braiding my own natural hair. They seemed to not know about natural hair care, I had to tell them No, you don't detangle natural hair by roughly combing through it when it is dry, the hair will break off. You have to get it wet and have some conditioner in then comb through it gently while washing the conditioner out. They are Senegalese and you can expect to them to talk to each other in their native language throughout the duration of your visit even though they can all speak English, possibly talking dirty about you in front of your face. I thought it was so rude. If you are desperate to get braids, come here. They have short notice availability and was able to see me on very short notice. If you call them they will keep calling you back until you come in for service. They only take cash. You will not get a receipt You have to pay for your service before you get your hair done. There are no children allowed unless they are getting their hair done. They will only braid the hair of children who are 7 or older, and may not do some of the children if they cry too much. They expect you to come in with your hair ready to be braided, so if you need to wash, condition, detangle it or whatever, do that beforehand. It's $10 for your hair to be washed...the place looked kind of dirty including the towel had a yucky smell to it so I wouldn't recommend it. Please bring your own hand soap because there is only dishwashing liquid in the bathroom. There is only 1 bathroom. In the middle of washing your hair they will stop to mop the floor. ALL of the ladies that worked here wore WIGS. Omg, I wish I was exaggerating here but these are all the honest-to-God truths.
