Sean, the owner, sent over Dan and his team to work on it. With an incredible eye for detail and his knowledge of plant material, Dan quickly went to work on relocating plants and choosing new ones to compliment the design. They made sure to plant things properly (not too low to be choked off by their own roots and not kept in their burlap or metal cages), which has happened in the past with other companies. Additionally, my front walkway was shifting and sinking (after only 5 years because another landscaper installed it using improper base material). Matt repaired it so it now lays completely flat and level. The property now looks like a completely different home! It has interest, color and a well-designed layout. I couldn't be happier! From the first phone call with Sean, planning with Dan and watching the team work so efficiently, I have been very pleased with the quality of service and plant material they have provided. They are experienced (30+ years in business) and their knowledge of plant material is extensive, as they are MA certified arborists and MA certified horticulturalists. We waited a full year before writing this review because we wanted to see how our new lawn would…read morelook over time. Unfortunately, we are extremely dissatisfied with the quality of the lawn installation and overall workmanship. We paid over $4,200 for a new lawn installation with cultivation, grading, loam, seed, and follow-up overseeding. One year later, the lawn is patchy, uneven, and full of different grass types and dark clumps throughout the yard despite having a brand new irrigation system. Vinny promised the lawn would look amazing by the following year, but that is absolutely not what we got. Our overall ~$50K project included paving, irrigation, and landscaping, and there were problems throughout the process. Luckily, I was working from home because I constantly had to supervise the crew and catch mistakes myself. At one point the crew had the wrong patio layout before installation. Downspouts that were agreed upon were initially not installed. The pavement was also installed incorrectly, causing major water pooling and dangerous ice buildup in winter before they eventually redid it. The irrigation system was another issue. Our contract clearly included Wi-Fi controls, but they were not installed initially and Vinny tried to claim they had been removed from the contract. Before the controls were installed, the irrigation system ran nonstop and resulted in an additional ~$1,800 water bill before we were able to monitor it ourselves. Our experience was that Vinny is a great salesman who will do everything to win your business, but the execution and follow-through did not match what was promised. We regret giving this project to this company and would strongly encourage others to carefully evaluate other options before hiring them.

Maple Tree should be AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS. They are the most disgusting group of people you could…read moreever meet. They hire illegal immigrants and treat them terribly, including but not limited to: hiring undocumented individuals and then paying those people almost nothing, berating them on job sites, and berating customers (not to mention lying about their rates and trying to get away with it). Two of the young men who worked for Maple Tree told me that they didn't have any papers and that this was the only work that they could land. It's not right for a company to treat immigrants this way. This is a dishonest company that blatantly tries to deny any wrongdoing, so it really doesn't matter what they tell you, and there are far better companies to hire out of Wayland.

I used yelp to send out the job request to a dozen landscapers in the Boston area and we ended up having 6 come to the property to provide estimates. Jerry's estimate was 25% less than any of the other companies, including the big name ("& sons") in Milton. Jerry provided the estimate within 24 hours (unlike half the landscapers who provided estimates, who took as long as 2 weeks to submit) and also was able to work us in to their schedule much much earlier than I expected based on conversations with other landscapers. The team appeared to be using top of the line equipment and were amazingly professional throughout their time on the job. Fantastic work and 100% I have already begun recommending their work to my neighbors, so I'm looking forward to seeing Rhudd's back on the street soon I hope.

I replied with my address and a promise to send photos in the morning, with notice that I'm a caregiver and "sometimes I get caught up". I sent photos of my property the next morning (Thursday). I heard nothing from Mr. Rhutt on Friday so I called Saturday, and in our convo he said he would come by Sunday and look at the property. I asked what time, he said afternoon. Sunday afternoon came and went. No call, no show. That's very frustrating.

Recently (May 2023), however, when we asked them to help us redesign a portion of our back yard, they hesitated but then finally provided a proposal, which we accepted. Less than a week later, without explanation, we were contacted and told they would not be doing the job and our annual lawn service would be discontinued. Despite several attempts, no further communication or explanation was provided. We don't know if the business is now defunct or if they simply decided they no longer wanted our business. We would have been ok with any reasonable explanation, but the lack of communication is highly unprofessional and frustrating as we now need to find an alternative service provider mid-way through the lawncare season. Contract this company at your own risk.

But having dealt with many contractors over the years I wanted to leave a review anyway because these guys did everything right, even though they didn't win the bid. Orli missed my call but called back within half an hour. He was easy to work with, he showed up early for our appointment, he wore a mask, and he had a written quote to me within 48 hours. As far as pricing, he was very competitive vs the company we went with, priced about the same on some items and as much as 20% cheaper on others. I would have no hesitancy using him in the future. If you know what you want done and don't need a full blown landscape design, give him a call!

I found out from talking with my 3 very young grandchildren on the phone that they can't play in yard and it wasn't safe anymore. Was overwhelmed for my son to handle and he didn't want me to worry. Nelson sent me a video and I cried. The workers came in the same day cleared the whole yard and all around the house. Our contract specifically stated that we were not required to hire the company to perform the installation work and that the designer would revise the design based on our feedback. The designer visited the property, evaluated the site, and later scheduled a Zoom meeting to present the design. During the meeting, the company owner joined the call. After the designer finished presenting the plan, I started to provide my first piece of feedback but the owner cut me off before I could finish and stated that the design phase was complete and that I would need to hire the company to perform the installation if I wanted any changes made. The interaction was unexpected and inconsistent with my understanding of the contract. The designer appeared uncomfortable, and I found the owner's tone rude, unfriendly, and intimidating. What should have been a collaborative discussion about minor revisions became an unpleasant experience.

A couple of months later, right after Thanksgiving, we were the proud owners of a beautifully landscaped yard. I will admit that I was dubious about putting in all those mature plantings at that time of the year but Jeremy assured us that they would be fine and he was right--we had an amazing Spring of blooms and the excitement of experiencing new plants appearing in the yard. The quality of work and attention to detail caused us to go back to The Narrow Lane again last Spring to do a total renovation and redesign of our back yard. While we were impressed by the quality of work and attentiveness to detail that we experienced with the first project we were absolutely blown away with what Jeremy, Matt, and The Narrow Lane were able to deliver for the backyard. It is truly a work of art and we are so happy that not only did we re-engage with The Narrow Lane for this project but that we gave them complete control over the design and implementation. Neighbors now stop by to explore the yard and we are known in the area as "that house with the amazing landscaping". Based on these landscaping experiences over the past year we have now also contracted with The Narrow Lane to maintain the gardens and yard during the growing season as well as to provide us with snowplowing and shoveling in the winter. I will admit that they are not inexpensive to work with but the prices are totally justified by the quality of work, the care and attention that they have brought to everything that they do, and their continuing care that they bring to our property. We have found everyone from the company that we have engaged with to be consummate professionals that bring a new level of care and respect to the properties they take on as projects. If you are looking for an exciting and complete re-imagination of your property and then professionals to maintain it throughout the year you can't do better than The Narrow Lane.
