Had the urge to eat soul food, so looking through Yelp We came here on a whim. I was skeptical on how the food was because of the location (castle hill) but this was the closest one and i was starving so we decided to try it out. It's a small humbled spot, very homey and the server was pretty friendly. We ordered almost everything. I'm greedy so I like to have varieties. "She"(forgot the servers name)was very generous with the amount of food she served us. To my surprise 9 out of the 10 things we ordered was pretty tasty. The BBQ ribs were great very sweet and savory and tender also the fried chicken was so nice and crispy and very moist and flavorful, she had to cook it fresh (excellent) so we had to wait a few minute but that was ok with me. The greens was good. I usually don't eat greens from certain places or people but I'm glad I tried it here, the mac and cheese was not my favorite and the yams as well wasn't my favorite, the taste was a little wired. I didn't order the food in person; I ordered on Grubhub and collected because I wanted to try other soul food spots in the area, and this one, by far, is gross. Not just awful in taste but in visual. I ordered the oxtails, collard greens, macaroni & cheese first order, and the second order was barbeque ribs with the same side. Now I like that the packaging was saran wrapped and not leaking by the time I got the food. But the food was disgusting. My wife said the collard greens were salty, macaroni & cheese was burnt, and the oxtails had more fat than meat. The beef ribs were also not good. They had more sauce and overcooked. From me, the food was nasty, close to decent. I was hungry, so the macaroni & cheese and oxtails. But the collard greens were highly salty. The macaroni & cheese was like the kraft boxed version, not homemade at all and very tasteless. The oxtails had a lot of gravy but very limited on meat. I decided to try David's soul food yesterday, it's a No for me! I purchased fried fish, yams and string beans, I actually wanted spinach but they didn't have anymore. The string beans tasted, well, there was No taste, no seasoning whatsoever, Bland is the word as if they'd been sitting in a pot full of water, the yams were okay, too much cinnamon for my taste and the fish was also tasteless. As bad as that was the person who called to let me know there was no more spinach was Rude, no hello, The second I stopped to breathe she hung up on me and I had to call back, again. Sometimes they don't always have what's on the menu. The pickings for Caribbean so food are slim in in the immediate area, still this place is nice enough. The sizes (especially for the oxtail) are amazing. I feel like the woman who usually plates the food might know me, even with the mask on (thanks COVID) and it's always generous portions. The fried chicken was great, the sides were great sized portioned and were very good, I loved the red velvet cake. The priced are very reasonable for soul food and the food came less than the delivery time. This was the worst soul food experience I've had. I should've noted the GRADE PENDING sign. The medium oxtail order for $11 consisted of mostly macaroni and cheese, which was inedible. It smelled like it was old, and it tasted just as bad. The four oxtails were mostly fat, and they were tough. The candied yams were fine, but they were not candied. The menu (their personal website and seamless.com where I placed my order) clearly states the order special as "fish AND chips with 2 sides" I received no chips (French fries) with my order. I called to inquire and the personnel replied "it is a typo, why would we give all that food for that price" I also ordered 2 1/2 & 1/2 beverages which is advertised as Arnold Palmers on the website. My order came with a snapple 1/2 & 1/2 and an Arizona iced t. In addition the chicken was not well prepared and the rice and beans were clearly not fresh as there were dried, crunchy, burnt pieces of rice mixed in it. Candied yams ended up not being available along with pretty much everything else listed. Thankfully, someone called swiftly and my order came in a timely manner..
