Fried CATFISH Dinner with collard GREENS
    Ameil S.

Good local neighborhood spot I discovered today it's in a weird location I would recommend calling ahead and driving over there to pick up your food. You will need to look for parking which is definitely a drawback. There is no ambience since it's a takeout only location and Service was good. I waited for my food if you choose to do that it's about a 15 minute wait overall the food I would say is OK I had catfish with collard greens and cornbread. I like my catfish crispy- This one wasn't- the collard greens were pretty good. I haven't tried the cornbread yet, but it looks right. They seemed really busy with DoorDash/Uber eats order, it would appear that they are a pretty popular place. Check them out!!

Pictures of inside Sweet Potato Grande where we ate "lunch" for $136.00 using plastic utensils

Well this place advertises that they have done in seating. Lol, not at the address but 2 storefronts up the street to a dark and dingy storefront that's dimly lit. They want you to order at the address listed then go to the spot and sit down to eat. How is the food served, in a to go bag with plastic utensils. The ribs, macaroni and cheese and collard greens were pretty tasty but all of the food was very sweet. I wanted a slice of sweet potato pie, instead I was brought a small round pie about 5 inches round. Needless to say for 3 people our bill was $136.00. We arrived at 1pm and was given the dinner menu. Very uncomfortable seating so we had to bring our food home to add hot sauce to help cut down on the sweetness. And the punch was way too sweet. Not someplace that I would recommend. Btw, the cornbread came straight out of the refrigerator.

    Dry and overcooked

Waited forever for food even tho I called in ahead. No space to even stand while waiting for a meal I could barely eat. Nearly $30 spent for greasy, tiny, hard, dry wings cooked in last weeks fish oil. Greasy greens and flavorless mac. Total waste of time and money. Should have got pizza. This is not the same Sweet Potato from years ago when they had tables and chairs. Bye!

Southern Fried Chicken with a side of Mac and Cheese and Candied Yams

Overall, I give this restaurant 4 stars for serving hot food, great packaging that kept the food hot, and great customer service. I just moved to the area and was in search of some southern comfort food. I came across this place on yelp. Because of the mixed reviews I was very very cautious. The food arrived within 45 minutes and the packaging ensured that it was kept hot. There was some condensation in the fries container, but that is to be expected and shows they were hot. Southern fried chicken: When I first tasted the chicken I was happy that it was hot and could tell it was cooked fresh. However, the taste was a bit off to the point where I wasn't comfortable finishing it. It tasted like the chicken was cooked fresh but that the chicken itself was on the verge of being rancid. Max and cheese: I thought the mac and cheese was good. It was nicely seasoned and cheesy. Candied Yams: These were my favorite. Good amount of sweetness and I could tell they used fresh yams as opposed to canned. Steak fries: These were cooked fresh. My only issue is that to be labeled as herb fries, they didn't have a lot of flavor. I seasoned them more to spice them up. Peach cobbler: I didn't care for this at all. The taste was bland and it didn't taste fresh. It tasted like it was cooked a few days or even a week ago. The reason I gave this place 4 stars despite some of the food not tasting super fresh was for the customer service. I reported an issue with the order on Uber eats and received a response from a restaurant. I also appreciated that the food was cooked fresh. However, for the price, I expect to get chicken that is freshly bought and seasoned and can tell from taste when something has been sitting in the pantry for a while before being fried. I'm definitely willing to give this place another try, perhaps business slowed down this week leading to the almost sour taste underlying the chicken and peach cobbler? I'm willing to speculate that this place is capable of serving fresh food and was happy that the business took the feedback as an opportunity to grow as opposed to being defensive or dismissive. Overall, I recommend giving this place a chance, as they are clearly capable of making excellent soul food!

The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall.

To start, we shared the crispy brussel sprouts Charleston style. These were delicious with the tangy sauce and large flakes of parmesan cheese. For my main, I had the brunch wrap. It comes with chips, but I swapped for fries for an additional charge. The wrap was a good size; I had half and saved the rest for leftovers. It was tasty, but not a ton of flavor. The tater tots were nice and crispy and I enjoyed the fresh tomatoes and avocado. They gave me a huge portion of crinkle cut fries, which also would've been great with a little more seasoning, but they were good when dipped in mayo. My husband got the shrimp and grits and appreciated the large portion size as well. I had a lemonade to drink. It was refreshing since it wasn't overly sweet. Service was great. I look forward to trying the rest of the menu!

Aesthetically, each table feels like a meal at a family dinner table; it's clear that they wanted that vibe to be translated, and it's done quite well. This is also supported by the service being very friendly and helpful in general. To eat, I had the French toast burger with sweet potato fries. Some others with me had various sides like regular fries and tater tots, and the same thing was present on them that tends not to be at most places: they were all perfectly salted/seasoned. It might seem immaterial, but it's a very good signal when something that simple--yet often neglected in favor of just using condiments to mask it--is executed well. If you're a burger place with fries that taste great without the need for a sauce or condiment, you're doing something right. The French toast burger was likewise fantastic, combining sweet and savory in a great way. To drink, we all got a communal pitcher of the only frozie they had available at the time: a kind of jungle juice vodka slushie. It, too, was great--worthy of multiple rounds. All in all, here's a place that I can't wait to give another visit.
