Moved in from NYC a couple a months ago. I was referred by acquaintances to this restaurant. Today I decided to stop by and give it a try. Upon arrival the place was empty and yet I was received by non-present greeting. The gentleman in the open kitchen seemed to be eating there and then. About 40 seconds later I was greeted by a young adult who said " hey what can I get you" i said I don't know yet is my first time here. He said "ok" as he walked away and continued conversing with another young male who was in the open kitchen area as well. Mind you know one wasn't even wearing an apron. Order the fried haddock "fresh" I beg to differ and the shrimp basket (which is one pack of frozen pre-cooked breaded shrimp) which I witnessed as the gentleman tossed into the fryer. In brief, the place looks like everything but a restaurant perhaps more like a (frozen) fish market with a kitchen. THE SERVICE was AWFUL. Businesses are for people who can at least treat others with hospitality especially a customer and new customer. The fish was not as fresh. It had no seasoning. Oh and kraft tartar and cocktail sauce. I felt as if my presence wasn't welcome the minute I walked in. Customer service confirmed it. Portion size was reasonable yet it lacked quality and taste. the best thing on the plate (the french fries). I won't be visiting. If you are not of Caucasian decent dont even bother. If you are brave enough give it a try. read more

I have purchased food from this restaurant since 1994 when the establishment was run differently. The food was fresh, clean and very good. This was my first time coming back in several years for a fish fry on 04/13/2018. Unfortunately this time was not good. The fish was overly fried, which I could deal with that.... even with the coleslaw not being as fresh as I had in the past. The problem with this meal was the long blond hair in my food; which made me want to throw up.... it's disgusting to buy food that is costly and find someone's nasty hair in the food... Tried to call in a order during corona virus...... They cut me off and said to just come down and stand in line and order in person. Ok, 1/2 hr waiting in line, ok, get to the counter....... I order 1 reg fry and 2 broiled......... "Sir, we aren't doing broiled, only fried (crap). Thanks for taking the last 40 minutes of my life!!! They will NEVER get another penny from me..... EVER. This is the best place for fish fry in the city. Get there early as the parking can get full and the line to wait gets long. It is worth the wait. The fish tastes amazing! I love their cole slaw. It's just the right amount of sweet and tangy. The fish just melts in your mouth. Friday night this place is packed. They do have tables there to eat at, but I recommend just taking it home. All orders are to go. They sell frozen fish, fresh fish, and by far the best fish fry. They also have a wonderful lobster bisque. I found out after ordering it that it wasn't hot, but a zap in my microwave and it was delicious. Defiantly a favorite with us. During Lent the Friday night wait time is 30 minutes or longer just to place an order. Once your order is in you get your box of food within minutes. read more

I stopped in on a busy Friday during lent. I ordered two baked and one fish fry after a relatively quick wait. After seeing people who ordered way after me come and go I inquired about my order. Mind you I was very patient 1/2 hr had passed. The server who also baked explained that he made them but someone else probably took them. This was the second time I had ever been there and they messed up the order once again. They offered to make them again but I said no thanks. By the way since I was able to watch the operations longer than the average customer I was shocked to see a fried fish on the floor near the frier. One of the young servers was eating French fries from the prep counter, mind you with his glove on but, directly from hand to mouth. That is a direct violation of the health code. A great fish fry provided you like a breading based batter. I prefer crispy regular batter and was disappointed after driving so far to get there but the fish was really good after I removed the breading. The other negative I experienced was that it was my first time there and they weren't very helpful explaining how to order. The menu is mounted on a side wall rather than facing the front, so it's difficult to read what they serve when you're in the line. Luckily, a lady in line helped me. read more

My family and I love the Fish Fry dinners here. It's worth the drive from Parma every week to get take out. My daughter loving Deep Fried Shrimp, tried the dinner. Unfortunately she found some of the shrimp had the tails on still. One looked like some of the shell was intact still as well. Not the end of the world, but disappointing. During my next weekly visit, I brought it to the attention of the gentleman running the register. I explained what had happened the week before. The gentleman simply stated "No". I said what do you mean "No"? He stated "No" again. I asked if he was accusing me of being a liar? He stated "No". I said it has to be one or the other, it happened or it didn't. He stated "they come battered already". This in no way protects the shrimp from the possibility of having some tails attached or some missed shell still attached that got battered anyway. No in this guys world that is impossible because why? Because they come already battered that's why. So there is no way it could possibly happen. He easily could have said "I'm sorry for that happening" or "I will look into that, thanks for bringing it to my attention". Something like that. Nope, he wouldn't even acknowledge it happened. He denied, denied, denied. I said what do I gotta do show a picture to believe me? He said "show me picture". Seriously? I never asked for a refund. I never asked for anything. In the end I asked if he had anything to say or do for me? I was at least hoping for an apology for being so defensive and rude. I just had to walk away in disbelief that this man wouldn't acknowledge my complaint. I got a defective dinner and I bring it to their attention and I am basically called a liar. Never in food customer service have I made a complaint where the person wouldn't acknowledge that my complaint actually happened. I am a grown adult and have better things to do than lie about a screw up of a dinner. I said something because it happened and someone should know about it. I feel I was doing the right thing. I really like this place and that put a sour taste in my mouth and it will rub me in the wrong way to get my fish every week since this happened. Will I stop coming here? No, they have dang good food. However, I will take pics if I ever have something out of line with a dinner from here again and I will be real sure to make it known to everyone else cause the public cares more than Davies does. read more

This doesn't even deserve to get one star. This was hands down the worst fish fry I can remember! Fish was soggy, coleslaw was warm, french fries were actually wet, and the amount of liquid in the bottom of the container from the barely cooked, falling apart fish left me shaking my head! I used to be a regular customer but the last time we ordered fish frys they had not only gone up in price but got smaller and everything was soggy. It's been a while but we were in the mood for fish frys tonight and decided to give them another try. Well for about $22 I got two soggy dinners again! One was a decent size...the other was pretty small in comparison and looked like someone ate from it already!! No consistency. Barely got any fries!! And they forgot the tartar sauce!! Davies is an old staple in Greece, around forever. My family also used to get fish fries there in years past. We visited the store recently-only because we had a yen for fish for dinner. The seafood on display was only "ok" looking..the salmon appeared to have been left uncovered for some time as the top pieces were dried out (ick-red flag #1), then we decided the scallops looked safe and ordered a pound of those... except we had to wait for a moment while they got the scale to work. At $20/lb - I hope that darn scale is exact! (Red flag #2). Final straw was when my hubby pulled a can of anchovies off the shelf for our Caesar salad- and the "best sold by date" was THIS MONTH!!. (Red flag #3). We left without purchasing anything (they had JUST. got the scale to work) . Better safe than sorry. It's a shame, cleanliness and attention to detail is of utmost importance in the food industry. We went elsewhere for our dinner fish. read more

I was really excited to try this place. The reviews were great and everyone raved about it. I now have just one question- how?..... My husband tried to call ahead so we wouldn't have to wait. The young kid that answered the phone said they don't do take out on Fridays and to just come it, "it doesn't take long." So, my husband and I drove there and when we walked in we had second thoughts about consuming their food. It was filthy inside. We were not greeted and we were confused on how to order. It was like waiting at the deli in the grocery store with the number and all. After standing there for 5 minutes without anyone saying a word to us, a young lady took our order. We waited for 20 minutes. Kind of long for just picking up a fish fry. I was less than impressed by the taste. I guess I may be biased to crispy beer battered fish frys with house made tartar sauce and lemon wedges. Davies fish fries (although great portions) taste like fish with chicken tender breading. It was dry and tasteless. The coleslaw was average, but the fries were the worst of all. I couldn't even eat them. They were probably not even half way fully cooked. The worst fries I've ever had.
