I chose a pair for everyday wear, and an additional pair for prescription sunglasses. While getting the order ready I was told that the mirrored lens color we had been looking at for the selection process wasn't in-fact the brand/color that would be used for the sunglasses. I was presented with new samples to choose from. The staff started the order process. Then we went through the order for the everyday frames and prescription lenses (I've worn glasses for 35 years and get new frames annually). As always, I requested non-glare lenses and a scratch-resistant coating, etc. Now, typically, in all my previous experiences at other eye care offices, the team takes numerous measurements so the lens and prescription can be made properly. Well, not at Davis Eyecare. A simple glance by the technician, who then stated to her team member, "2cm." Both frames. I was asked to pay half ($375) to start the order. I received a call that my glasses had arrived and were ready for pick up. To my disappointment, the sunglasses with the purple mirrored fronts didn't have purple mirrored fronts. The staff shrugged it off while admitting they had noticed that too. After discussing, they told me that they would send the sunglasses back along with the sample lens. We moved on to the everyday glasses. Upon trying them on, I immediately noticed that they seemed foggy. Not dirty, but almost a film. I also felt that the glare was significant. After being told it was just me and/or their office lights, I felt pressured to accept glasses to "try" for a few days. When I asked what would be done if I were still having issues with them after a few days, the response was noncommittal. I then asked specifically whether, at that point, I would be given a refund, and the answer was essentially, "Jason would need to decide." I decided not to leave with either pair and asked for a refund. The staff said they would notify the appropriate people at their Oak Lawn location. I thanked them and asked if I would get a call or who I could follow up with, and was told Karen. 2 hours later, I called to follow up with Karen, who knew nothing about the situation or the refund. She told me that Jason might know about the refund, but Jason was currently on a call. Karen assured to call me back within ten minutes. 2 hours later, I realized that I had not heard back and decided to call Oak Lawn again and asked for Jason. Jason started the conversation by telling me he did get the message and that he has been busy dealing with stuff all day before launching into: - he's going to have to deal with the staff; they should have inspected my order. Jason himself has very high standards because he, too, is a consumer. - he personally knows the guy in NY who runs the lab where my lenses were made, and he was reaching out to find out what happened. - his hands are tied in terms of refunding my money since they were made for me (but Jason, they were made incorrectly) - he's a victim too; VSP mandates price and where the lens is made. It's unfortunate, but they took all the money I paid him to fill the prescription. All while restating how he handles these calls all the time. I interrupted Jason as he started to reiterate all the above points and told him directly that I wanted a refund, since they were unable to make either pair correctly and had zero interest in going around in circles. - Jason has his hands tied. VSP makes the rules. - Jason "doesn't have time to deal with this anymore" and tells me to call VSP. So, 10 minutes into excuses, Jason makes his first real suggestion: reach out to VSP. Not that he will facilitate this, but that's what I could do if I weren't happy. - then Jason blurts out "fine, I'll refund both glasses even though I'll need to eat some of it." - Jason tells me he needs my debit card over the phone. After pushback, it was agreed that I would return to the Orland location, and they would use my card to process my refund. On the way to the office, I call VSP, explain the situation, and request that, once I get my refund, I be allowed to use my insurance at another practice that can scale to fill my order. VSP immediately agreed and expressed its disappointment in the provider's stance on the situation. They told me they would reach out to Jason and ask Davis Eyecare to release the insurance claim so I could use it elsewhere. An hour later, VSP calls me back to let me know they spoke with Jason, who acknowledged they were issuing my $375 refund (which they did), but refused to release the insurance claim. VSP acknowledged that this was out of spite and uncommon. Essentially, Jason felt that my expectations of getting what I paid for were unreasonable. And my insistence on a refund was worthy of retaliation - hence the insurance claim not being released. Fortunately, VSP made it possible for me to bring my business to a reputable company - and they will honor my coverage with or without Jason's blessing. read more

I've been going here for yearsss and I can say as of my most recent visit I've been more pleased with the office! They always have the best variety of Frames and the office staff is friendly as well! They used to be slower than my liking. But I'm impatient if I make an apt. I'm early and want to be seen at That time. But the timing has gotten better! I have been a patient for over 30 years. As someone who has dealt with severe eye issues my entire life I appreciate the full service that they provide. They do tests that expand beyond what franchise box eye place conduct. Both Dr. Davis' (Father and Son) have gone above and beyond to care for me and my entire family. An example of their care included when I transitioned to contacts and from my past experience I did not fill comfortable wearing them but wanted to do so on my Wedding day. Their technician spent time with me training me to be comfortable putting them in and taking them off. She even volunteered to come on my wedding day to put them on for me. Phone calls to office staff were anything but helpful. Now unable to order needed contacts. Will be finding a new provider ASAP. Every appointment I had, I had to wait 35 minutes + in the waiting room. The staff was not friendly when they took me back. It took 3 separate appointments trying on contacts because they couldn't find anything that worked for me. I have been with Davis eye care going on 11 years. I was recommended to go to them by my husband. I love the doctors and most of the staff. Davis always has the best and most fashionable glasses on display. BUT.....honestly if you order glasses please be prepared to wait. The wait can vary from weeks to months. 3 years ago I waited 2 months for my glasses and I thought that it was just because of the pandemic that things were slow. Now I'm not so sure because with the world back in full swing I don't understand why it's been over 2 months since I placed an order for my glasses that I still don't have. My issue isn't that the wait is so long but that when you check on the status the staff can easily say, "oh your glasses will be ready in a few days" well that's a lie I've been waiting months. Instead just truthfully say, "your glasses will take 2-3 months to be ready." I am 100 percent sure that the staff knows a ball park range of how long it's taking for glasses to be ready so why not just be honest. read more

First time patient and I came in for a medical eye exam. I called early in the morning to schedule an appointment they said they had many openings the same day! An intern did my exam. I wish I remembered his name, he did an amazing job and was very professional/informative. I know he will be a great Optometrist. The docs are very good. The staff isn't. The people working the desk operate at two speeds: slow and stopped. Even when you are simply picking up an order that's already been paid, it takes more than 10 minutes. The girl with the tats all over her hands is easily the worst. After not wearing glasses for 5 years and only sticking with contacts I decided to switch it up and get a pair of glasses. Making as appointment and vision tests were easy. Although the ladies answering the phone seemed disinterested in their job.The amount of time it took for my glasses to come in was a little over a week. But my disappointment comes in when I receive my glasses.. the lens are yellow, not clear. Because of my poor vision my lens are also thick I am aware of this issue though. But I wasn't clarified on how thin my lens can be made at the price of $180. Pretty disappointed and won't be wearing my glasses due to these two issues. read more

At first, I loved this place. They are very experienced optometrists and have a fantastic frame selection for opthomics and non-prescription sunglasses. Then, the contact lens fitting and purchasing came into the picture. Having an optical background, I know some doctors' have a preference for certain contact lenses, but when I told the doctor that the lens he fit me with - which just happens to be one he developed and researched, therefore getting a kickback - didn't feel any different for me than my old lenses, he got upset. Then told me that the lenses I wanted were the same price. The lenses I used to wear are approximately $80 for 2 boxes and he told me they charged $175 for 2 boxes. However, when you go to their website and check the prices they are very different than what they try to sell them for at their office. When I asked for a prescription for the brand I used to wear (Acuvue Oasys for Astigmatism), he told me that if I didn't buy the lenses there that he would charge me $65 for a re-fitting (his 5 minutes of time) and that he really didn't want to see me again for the re-fit to begin with. I walked out with a prescription for the lenses he created (Coopervision Biofinity), told him it was bad business and will not be spending my money at a nice location with great frames. I guess if I am not wanted there, neither is my money. read more

There are definitely be a part 2 to this review I called my vision provider to see if preferred optometrist was in our health plan so I wouldn't have to come out of too much money I didn't think to check Yelp for the reviews before I was already there with my daughter who wears glasses there wasn't too much of a way but I'm trying to understand the rationale they have about the various tests that they have you do for example of blood pressure tester doing on a 16 year old and other health screenings I just wanted to know about her eyes her blood pressure is fine they had her go from room to room when I was just there for a vision test and some glasses so I'm hoping that this additional testing that they did is covered or I will be finding that cuz I didn't need additional Services just vision test and glasses prescription they don't have a huge selection that was covered 100% by my plan but it was fine I didn't need anything extravagant she just needed to be able to see read more

The Dr is fantastic and the office crew. I don't recommend the optical part, I ordered glasses in April and when they came in the glass what cut uneven so the ordered me new ones and told me to keep the pair that was cut wrong,. they claimed they ordered them twice and I never received them. So I demanded a refund which they gave me. The point is it shouldn't have took 4 months and never received either glasses that they claimed they ordered. read more

I didnt notice all these bad reviews over here. I cannot say anything but nice things about this place. My daughter broke my glasses and no one had any vision exams open for weeks. Davis squeezed me in in 2 days. I waited in my car (per covid-19 society) and was there for only 15 minutes before I went straight in to the exam machines. Just so people understand from other bad reviews, they typically take your blood pressure at dentists now too, because it can effect everything. The tests were easy and quick, every machine cleaned right after i used them. Everyone i came in contact with was super nice and friendly! I was around 5 different staff from start to finish. My first time coming here, I went in on a Thursday morning & I checked in. They require face masks and they checked my temperature with all this COVID-19 going on. As soon as I checked in they were with me quickly, I went in for an exam. The employees & the doctors were all very polite they were professional. I was very satisfied with my visit. I was there for about 40 minutes overall, mind you it went by very quick. They had a good selection of frames to choose from, they help you throughout the whole process. I've had the WORST experience with the level of professionalism with the office manager and billing department at Davis Eye Care. I received service in October 2014 and have now been sent to collections for a bill that I should not be responsible for as I went in for a BASIC eye exam and received additional services that I DID NOT authorize and was not explained to me. Funny how Lynn, the Office Manager could tell me that the doctor "must have seen something" to do further testing and any Optometrist I've seen since then have not indicated that my vision or the health of my eye was alarming. While the testing was being done the doctor said nothing about seeing anything that would be grounds for further examination. The exam was a 2 hour + sham to only receive glasses with a too strong prescription and have to later return to have my old lenses put back in. Sad to know this place is only out for a check and not interested in thoughtfully explaining the additional cost to the patient and only ask for insurance cards and sends bill. I have only been here once for an exam based on a recommendation. I will NEVER come back again and will surely advise others of my experience. The notes in my file indicates that I attempted to pay the bill with a medical reimbursement account that I don't have. Since then I have also been sent to collections. Not to worry, Lynn condescending was sure to tell me that I need to pay for the service that I didn't authorize and she would send my file to the Better Business Bureau to go along with my complaint. read more

I've been coming here for many years. Up until the last couple of years things had been wonderful. My doctor was fantastic, but the customer service has been the ABSOLUTE WORST. Not sure who the girls in the office know but most of them are RUDE. Having been waiting for more than a month to receive my glasses. (Rest assured they made sure to charge me before I left the office ) Having made two separate trips to pick up my eyewear, after receiving email notification that they had arrived in the office. On the first trip in I was given 1 contact, yes ONE!! Second trip I was given the remainder of my years supply, along with the ol' song and dance about the lab being out of service thus delaying my glasses. Called ten days later. Girl that answers phone claims, after a 5 minute runaround that miraculously my glasses "have just been finished"! She promises to mail them to my house for me that day. Fast forward four days... you guessed it, no such delivery yet. Another call to the office manage Lynn. Another set of lies and promises . I only wish I hadn't paid in advance, otherwise I could easily and happily go down the street to the nearest competition. My son is a premie and his eye vision can change from now to then. Sometimes we may need a extra script. Our insurance approved us to get a vision test and new glasses as long as Davis would write a medical necessity letter. Now my song specialist said his eyes script changed severely . This office refused all summer. Thank God for a great insurance company who did a verbal call with our specialist and it was fully approved without are Dr from Davis. I have been going to this clinic for probably over 15 years and have never had a problem. The doctors are great and very knowledgable. However, I have noticed when it's time to choose your glasses they become very strange and a bit rude. I've never really had an issue because I just ignore this aspect of the clinic. You do get stared at for a really long time eventually making you uncomfortable, but I just ignore it. They definitely don't like when it's time for someone to choose glasses. It's been like that for years. It's as if you're being a nuisance for going in there to choose glasses. Go figure. I come back here only because the doctors are good at what they do. read more

My three children and myself have been patients at Davis Eye Care for the past 13 years and was always very happy with their service. Unfortunately, over the past couple of years I have watched the services deteriorate. The staff is not as helpful as they once were and we experience longer than usual wait times for appointments (this was happening prior to Covid as well). This last visit was the final straw, my daughter ordered glasses and was told she could expect them within a week, a month later and we are still waiting on her glasses! The doctor that saw us for a piece of metal in his eye on tuesday was amazing. She got the metal out of his eye and squeezed us in during COVID. I did not appreciate though on our return 2 days later, there was a little miscommunication on the phone that resulted in the nurses at the Oak Lawn location to gossip about the situation and laugh about it right in front of us. I was able to get an appointment fast and the staff was nice, the doctor not so much. Idk if I got him in a bad day but he was cold and in a rush to finish, this wasn't even at the end of the day. Their eyeglass selection is nice, at least I had fun picking some out. When I finally made my choice, I was told they would be ready in 5-10 business and I paid in full--my mistake! Maybe if didn't pay in full I would get a call from them. I called after the 10 business days to check if my lenses had come in. Guess what, they were there and They said they just needed to pop the lenses into the frames and I could pick them up soon. I received a call 10 minutes laters saying that the frames broke when they tried to put the lenses in and they would have to reorder the frames. Another 5 business days.. it's been a month and still no call. Don't recommend. I just want my glasses that I paid for and be done with them. Go somewhere else! read more

This amazing office not only helped get him taken care of quickly, AND on a Saturday, they made him feel welcome in their practice even though we live out of state. He called several offices and asked for help and this is the first one that took the time to help him even though he wasn't a potential patient- just to be good people. This means so much to me. This is the first negative review I have ever given a business :( Doctors: very good, quick and to the point Technicians helping in the eye exam: kind and knowledgeable Office workers: unprofessional, lazy, dishonest Technician/saleswoman who helps you pick your glasses: similar to office workers, but tenfold. Most of my complaints involve her. Background: They installed new lenses on my old frames and transferred the original lenses to an older frame that I had at home (as a backup pair). Main Issues: 1) She BROKE my frames and didn't notify me. I only found out when I got to my (out-of-state) home. The mount for the lens was completely separated from the frame and there were multiple chips/scratches on the frame where they access the lens. 2) She LIED straight to my face on several occasions, saying that they called, texted, and emailed me even when I showed them that the call/text history on my phone totally contradicts that (I didn't have access to wifi to search my email at that moment, but it also came up empty). She told me a specific date and everything. I did confirm that they had the correct number. 3) She refused to take responsibility for even the most blatant transgressions (see #2) and her "solution" was for me to buy my own glasses on ebay and just hope the lenses would fit. Other Issues: 1) Their system for notifying customers when their glasses are ready is non-functional. No calls, texts, or emails received. They refuse to acknowledge this or address it in any way. 2) When they put my old lenses in the second (older) frame, they put them in incredibly crooked and it warps my vision (a sort of fisheye effect) so now that they broke my good frames, I have to wear these ones that they also messed up. Insult to injury. The level of professionalism is astoundingly low and their mishandling of other's property is next to criminal. I will be avoiding this place at all costs. read more
