I had a quite bad experience at this business. I've always had my regular dentist visit and I never had any issue. I booked an appointment at this location since I moved in the Davis area and I wanted to do my yearly cleaning. I had a fist bad taste when the assistant has started to do way more radiography than normal. After the several picture I've been visited by the hygienist who told me that I need a deep cleaning. I've never had this before so I asked to talk with the doctor. The doctor came and told me that I really have to do this deep cleaning because I've started to lose bone. He also explained that they need to put anesthesia on my all mouth and it is a 2 hours procedure. After that the secretary came with a $500 estimate for me and $2835 for the insurance and she told me that after that they need to put me in a long term maintenance plan. At this point I was very suspicious so I asked all my images and request to postpone the appointment that they offered me to perform the procedure. I've contacted my previous trusted doctor and it turned out I have nothing and the only thing I need is a standard cleaning and whitening. Please stay away from this place if you care about your mouth health. This place is only try to bill you and your insurance. read more

This is the most unreliable dental clinic. After waiting four months for a basic cleaning appointment, they cancelled my appointment the day before, and when I rescheduled, cancelled a second time without informing me. Not only is it impossible to get a timely appointment, you will never know if they will keep the appointment until the night before. read more

Appointments are never on time. I've had the first appointment of the day at 7:30am multiple times and have waited 25+ minutes. Told that staff are in traffic and other excuses. In the afternoon wait times can be close to an hour. read more

I really did like my dentist, Dr. Saini, but she has left. I did have some issues over multiple visits here. My first visit took over 2.5 hours for a simple cleaning. The dental assistant couldn't get the X-rays right. I've never had that issue with another dentist. I had to come back for a couple of crowns and some fillings. Unfortunately, they never could figure my bite out and I still can't chew hard things on the right side of my mouth. I still love the service, and the people are kind. But I do wonder if, in the future, I should try a different dentist in Davis. read more

I love how friendly and competent the front desk staff are. They are always patient and polite -- absolutely no feeling of rudeness or being rushed like I've felt at literally every other dentist or doctor's office. I wish every office visit could be this nice! My hygienist, Sonja, was also super friendly and gave me an excellent deep clean so my teeth are looking much better after so many years of neglect. I'm so happy to have found such a great dentist experience and I plan to come back on a regular schedule. read more

Went in for my first dentist check up and to get my treatment plan because I haven't seen one for 20+ years.. I know. However the staff was very accommodating with me by using iPad to communicate and was very throughout. Dentist Dr. Blum was very gentle and clear with what's wrong with my tooth. The staff is all so warm and friendly and every person who has worked on my teeth (cleaning, filling, crown, root canal, x-rays etc.) has been so competent and disarming, as well as efficient. But they all care so much about my physical comfort level as well. I had my teeth whitened at Davis Smiles in February 2023 by technician Janeth. She explained the process very well (it takes over an hour). This is more than just putting trays in my mouth - it is a highly technical bleaching process. When it was over and she handed me the mirror to see my whitened teeth, I couldn't suppress my happiness over the difference. She was about as excited as I was, indicating that she really enjoys seeing her patients' reactions when they see how much brighter their smile has become. She is very professional yet down to earth. Dr. Sergio was a sweet guy and made the my teeth cleaning a breeze 30 min or less. (And I'm scared of going to the dentist, even though I grew up in a dental office) Instead of dental hygienist, it seems like the dentists does that here with the help of dental assistants. Wouldn't mind coming back :) ... but all my other dentists always gave me a fluoride rinse at the end of the visit and would give me a mouth wash set to go home and this place did not. Also, they did not try to sell or promo any new plans for my teeth like the previous post said. It was a quick in and out. read more

For initial cleaning appointment, the receptionist cancelled my appointment without informing me. The receptionist said that she would hold my spot for 24 hours before cancelling since I didn't have all my of dental insurance information at hand. I called the next morning before the 24 hours deadline to be told that I didn't have a appointment scheduled for me. The only good thing was that she scheduled me for the same time and date after I complained and specified that my appointment slot was on hold for 24 hours. As a former front desk person, I think she just double booked me with another patient to avoid any grief from me. I do think that it was extremely rude that she did that. The only reason this review isn't rated lower, is that the oral surgeon Dr. Chu did an amazing job on my wisdom teeth extraction. It was a nice and quick recovery with no swelling of the face. It's especially great since he extracted all four wisdom teeth at once. One of my coworkers who also removed her wisdom teeth recently (from a separate dental office somewhere in Sacramento), experienced a lot of pain and had chipmunk cheeks from the swelling. read more

Extremely rude once you have any questions about what they're charging you or why their estimate is so much more than what the insurance covers. They treat you like a number just to profit from. Unfortunately, certain plans (HMO) only cover this dentist in Davis, and all the other options in the area are all conspicuously the same in appearance and treatment. This leads me to believe they're all under the same corporate ownership! I found out the hard way going to a different office nearby, which had the same looking website but had a different 'corporate owner' at the bottom. It looks fishy and almost like a scam. Everything about this other office was the same, same decorations, posters, everything, and the person there said they 'are probably all owned by the same person.' Probably, really? You work there, you should know! Plus in the end, my quote was the same but even higher. Unfortunately, low cost hmo plans seem to breed corporate chain offices like these that rip-off customers to make money. Avoid this place, it's almost not worth having insurance if this corporate dentist is the only option. Don't be fooled in thinking ones nearby are any different! read more

Please avoid this place. They always try to have you pay more copay and hope that you don't know your insurance so they can get away with it. Plus I scheduled my dental apt 4 months ago and right before the week that I'm supposed to go in, they called me and said that they don't take my insurance anymore. Several years ago I switched my dental care from a Davis located dental office to Davis Smiles Dentistry also located in Davis since I was concerned with profit driven dentistry that had aggressively pushed replacement of my amalgam fillings with composite resin. While this was an expensive procedure, it was optional and a mistake. Last week some composite resin fractured also taking part of one tooth. Yesterday, my dental problem was examined by Dr. Vicuna at Davis Smiles Dentistry. He recommended a permanent crown cap to resolve this problem. Since I have never had a crown, I was a bit apprehensive but had a high level of trust in Dr. Vicuna based on my previous visits. Dr. Vicuna is highly skilled in the use of CEREC CAD/CAM treatment and said he could design and build a permanent crown in about 2 hours and even offered to have me observe live his actual creation of a crown design custom fit to match my teeth. The minute I said yes, Dr. Vicuna initiated the procedure with the excellent assistance by Alicia who impressed me as a highly trained tech in CEREC treatment. After prep procedures, Dr. Vicuna used his advanced CAD/CAM technology to create a virtual 3D image of the rows of teeth adjacent to the fractured tooth. I watched as he manipulated the images and efficiently created a 3D image of the new permanent crown cap that would be shaped by his milling technology just down the hall. In just 90 minutes from start to finish, I was released with a new custom designed crown. There was not even a hint of discomfort during the entire procedure and today it seems like I never even had a tooth issue. This has been a truly positive and amazing experience. If I could give Dr. Arshdeep and the entire practice less than one star, I would. I scheduled a new patient visit for a teeth cleaning. They took 17 X-rays (two of which had to be repeated) and one full panoramic- which is unheard of. The dentist talked to me about a hairline fracture in one tooth, then told me she couldn't clean my teeth while I was there and I had to make an additional appointment for this. The best part? They charged my insurance company $817... and I didn't get a thing done (aside from 9 million x-rays). I called my insurance company to dispute the charges (as I would like to be seen by a dentist, not a crook). read more

Overall this is a lovely practice. The dentists and hygienists I have worked with have been great. The reason this is not a 5 star review is every time I have tried to make an appointment I have been called days before telling me they need to reschedule. I am a medical professional with a challenging schedule so making time, getting permission to step out of the hospital to actually work on my dental health is a challenge, and having a last minute reschedule has been frustrating. Once or twice I understand, but this has occurred at least 5 times, and each time my visit is pushed back months. I understand things happen, especially during a pandemic, but for this to be a regular occurrence is less than ideal. read more

Dentists don't seem to stay there very long, bit turnover. Disorganized staff, unprofessional, incorrect quotes on costs/fees with insurance coverage vs. patient fees. Supervisor/office manager never returns phone calls after dozens of requests for basic information. Also the doctor/owner of the franchise does not return calls re: "customer service" issues-guess he doesn't care if his business thrives. Franchise is only interested in your $$ apparently. Choose a more professional dental group, there are many in Davis. read more

I would not trust this corporate dentistry. I went in for a teeth cleaning, and I went there for an appointment specifically for a teeth cleaning, where the dentist there told me that the dental hygenist was out and could not clean my teeth. That's stupid, I was talking to the dentist, they could have cleaned my teeth and done the damn appointment. They then took an X-ray, did some probing, and then told me that I needed to have periodontal cleaning and to get an extremely expensive root scaling and planing procedure, even though the deepest my pockets went was 5-6mm and that's just use to missing one or two of my back teeth. It was a complete rip-off, and a deeply unethical practice. Go to a private practice, this place scams you. I just ended up waiting to go back home to my regular family dentistry in my hometown, and they just gave me a regular teeth cleaning and didn't say anything about needing scaling. Stay away from these people. Their billing is all over the place they quote you a price and then charge more. The receptionist and people in the front desk are so unfriendly and so rude it's unbelievable you will notice that if you walk into the place. Absolutely awful. Being that I'm away from home and needed my biannual cleaning I yelped all dentistry in Davis. Seeing that Davis smiles had mostly great reviews I thought I was set. I went in for my appointment (only a cleaning) and immediately was told I needed x-rays because I had never been there before-which was fine. After my x-rays were reviewed I was told that I had multiple cavities that needed to be fixed right away and that I needed a crown as well. Keep in mind I was having absolutely no pain before I went in nor signs of any problems. A woman came into the room and went over my insurance with me. I was told my insurance was really good and that everything was covered except the crown. It was $324. Being naive and trusting that my doctor had my best interest in mind, I agreed. While at that visit *a cleaning* I ended up getting two cavities filled. I NEVER got a cleaning. The only thing I got was some fluoride put on my teeth after the fact and I was told to leave it on for 4 hours. A week later I had my second appointment for more fillings and a crown. Worst dental experience of my life. The assistant was new and being trained and had no idea what she was doing. The doctor was rough, inconsiderate, and inexperienced. He seemed like he was in a hurry and was very impatient throughout the whole appointment. Two weeks after my second appointment I still could not chew on the side with a crown and was experiencing throbbing pain 24/7. I went in and was told my bite was probably off, so they adjusted it. A week passed and nothing changed. Went back again and was told my bite was probably still off and they adjusted again. Nothing changed. I went back for the last time (obviously frustrated and promising myself this was the last time) a week later and was told that I probably needed a root canal. Before this experience I had absolutely no problem or fear of going to the dentist throughout my life. I've had cavities filled and even a root canal in the past and none of that even combined matched the pain and unprofessionalism that I experienced at this office. It has now been 4 months since my first appointment and I still cannot chew on the side where the crown was done. The side with just fillings is sensitive as well and I can only eat food that is soft. I am now going back to my dentist whom I've gone to my whole life and he is having to re-do the entire process to clean up the mess. PLEASE avoid this place !!!! I wish that I had dug deeper on reviews about Davis smiles before committing because after the fact I found several reviews almost exactly the same as mine. I waited for 1.5 hour (past the scheduled appointment time). I was gonna do the $59 exam and cleaning. After X-rays, they told me the hygienist wasn't there and to come back in the afternoon, wtf? As I was about to leave, all of a sudden the hygienist became available. The dentist was not very pleasant, especially after I said that I would be getting a filling done with another dentist and was only there for cleaning and whitening. Hated the place. Davis Smile is a very very bad place to do your dental work. Dentist pulled out my teeth then asked more money for the implant. Surgeon said if you don't have money wear the flipper and he left. Rude, unkind , greedy people work in Davis Smile. Tooth fell out from the flipper and they wouldn't cement it without an x ray and more money . Greed over helping a person. Local dentist cement it back without any issue. I will complain to Dental board and BBB. I had a hard time to trust another dentist and finally found a wonderful dentist in Woodland. read more

Went to have 3 extractions today as part of my treatment plan (just got covered by insurance after many years of having to neglect my dental health). Saw Dr. Chu and what a caring and very competent oral surgeon! Worst part was the numbing injection but he was right on. Did not feel any pain whatsoever when he extracted the teeth. He was also friendly and caring. But the assistants were outstanding with their attention and concern for my physical and emotional wellbeing. The main assistant was Audrey and she was so sweet and reassuring, what a wonderful asset to that office! I wish I got the name of the other assistant because she was great also. Because of this teams expertise, compassion and attention to detail, and the surgeon's expertise, I was done and out of there in a very short time. Thank you so much! read more

This is the time of COVID19 so I understand everyone is very anxious and perhaps angry. I attempted to make an appointment with the dentist and the front desk receptionist, Cameron, attempted to talk me out of it. I have an abscess and loose front tooth. I've been receiving treatments for the past year and a half on my front tooth after root canal x2 was unsuccessful. My tooth has slowly been getting looser and the bone area below the tooth has been sore and sensitive despite the root canal. I have complained that I am having trouble eating anything but soft food. I was told to eat soft food and avoid the area which is very difficult. My quality of life has suffered as I'm 49 and not ready to eat puréed food. I realize the treatment for this is to have the tooth removed and then eventually have an implant. The dental office has been hesitant to move forward with this. Last week, I could no longer tolerate it as it felt I might loose the tooth. This is what I was trying to convince Cameron at the front desk. I got to my appointment and misunderstood I was to wait in the car to be called. I saw a young man enter the office so I called to ask why. I was put on hold for 5 minutes then when Cameron returned to the call, he told me I was more than 15 minutes late though 15 minutes hadn't passed and though they had taken the next patient within 5 minutes of my appointment time. Cameron was very rude and condescending and suggested I should find another dentist as I was not going to wait until they see the rest of their patient panel before they see me. I assume they know I am a front line healthcare worker so they don't want to service me or my dental abscess. I have an HMO through so I'm stuck writing my own antibiotics and then paying out of pocket with a new dentist when the shelter in place is over as no one is taking new patients. read more

Dr/DDT Patel was great and the overall process and experience was pretty easy. I have UC SHIP, and the reception even looked up my insurance number for me when I didn't know it. My entire appointment lasted about 45 minutes, from a quick couple xrays with a painless standing rotating machine to the cleaning and then varnish flouride. Dr/DDT Patel was very clear, though I'm not sure if he really advised me on my best options. The cleaning was quick, and then the hygienest applied the flouride varnish. It seemed like the application was somewhat uneven, but maybe that just varies per mouth. Overall, they run a smooth operation here and I wish I took advantage of my SHIP the past two years! read more

This was my third visit at Davis Smiles: two cleanings and a filling. Each time my dentist was Kari Fowler, DDS. I thought Dr. Fowler was very professional, personable, knowledgeable and efficient. Today's filling only took 20 minutes, and was completely painless. Dr. Fowler also knew just how much numbing agent to use, so that the procedure was comfortable but I was't left with a numb face and drooling. That's always nice! And my bite was not altered by the new filling, which is annoying and has happened a few times for me. The offices are conveniently located off of the HWY 80 Mace Blvd, and across the street from Davis' Target shopping center. Parking was easy. The office is clean and efficiently run. The staff were clear about what the charges would be, and the cost of other recommended procedures. Payment plans are available, and they seem to really work with patients to make procedures affordable. I appreciate that the staff was willing to reverse the credit payment I made so that I could use my Health Spending Account card instead, which I did over the phone later the same day. read more

As someone who has been on "hiatus" from going to the dentist, let me just say I was happy with the office as a whole, from the billing to the Dental Assistant to the actual dentist. When unsure, go to any family dentistry. They are trained to be understanding towards children, and that reflects in how they treat all patients, no matter what the age. Non-judgmental, and very supportive in how they coach you through the procedure. The whole experience is not the most pleasant in the world (chipping away at plaque on a tooth is not very comfortable), but it was not that bad, and I honestly believe that is due in large part to the staff. I have a follow up in three months. Am I looking forward to it? Hell no! Am I glad that this office will be doing the dental work? Absolutely. read more

Office staff is always friendly. Sergio Vicuna is a great dentist. He's nice, honest, and efficient. The only time they have ever tried to "upsell" me on anything is the flouride polish because my insurance covers it completely. Once I tried it and hated it, though, I just refuse it each time. I started going to this place about 6 months ago, & I was assigned a doctor, per usual. After my first visit w/ her, I felt very comfortable with her. I felt I could trust her. As it turns out, she was diagnosing for the profit, and not for the patient. This was extremely discouraging. I was very unhappy about this discovery but figured I was just fortunate to have dentists behind me to help me get the REAL diagnosis. Anyways, my next time at the office I found out she doesn't work there anymore so I was assigned Doctor Harris. I felt so comfortable with her, she was so kind, very responsive, personable, capable, & didn't dismiss my concerns, but instead solved them! I feel like after so many years of searching, I have found a dentist I want to stay with! & if I weren't moving out of state, I most certainly would be staying with her as long as I could! I recently has my wisdom teeth out and they did a great job at getting me setup and comfortable. They are always helpful when I call in with any questions and very friendly when i walk in. I had dental treatment in August 2016. I payed some amount of co-payment. After a while i received a letter from my insurance describing how much they paid for me and how much should i pay for the co-payment. Then i learnt that i was overcharged $416. Then i contacted Davis smiles mentioning i was overcharged and i should get back my money. They keep saying they charged me the correct amount. We had more than 10 email conversation. Then i reported the situation to my insurance. The insurance wrote me a letter saying i will be payed back with in 10 working days. The Dentistry took 3 month with around 10 times telephone nagging to get back half the money, $208. They say this is all i should get. After writing another letter to the insurance and more telephone nagging i get back the remaining $208. My point is i had good dental treatment, but they deliberately overcharge me. When i found out that they resist to pay back. Watch out this mafia Dentistry. There is a fixed co-payment for each treatment. Look the agreement between insurance and dental provider before you sign their paper. I am sure it was not a mistake. They did it deliberately to cheat people who trust health service provider. Don't trust Davis Smiles. Check before you sign. read more
