They were very accommodating each time we got rained out with picking out a new date. They went the extra mile in the planning stage, from scouting out a potential photoshoot site ahead of time, to suggesting times when our photo shoot location (the Arb) would be less crowded, to helping brainstorm ideas to make the photoshoot unique to us. My fiance and I are not big PDA people and were feeling a bit awkward and nervous about doing a photoshoot in a public space, but from the start, Abben and Lily made us feel comfortable. Day of, they helped directed us in natural-looking poses and providing fun suggestions that had us laughing, which made for some wonderful pictures and good memories behind those photos. Abben and Lily both have a fabulous artistic eye for photo composition, and they truly listen and integrate your goals for the photoshoot. They make the photoshoot unique to you. After the shoot, their downloading interface is extremely easy to use, and they are prompt in their photo delivery (ours were delivered in little over two weeks). In terms, of price, they are a true steal for the high quality work they do! We are so happy and feel very blessed to have had Abben and Lily document these memories for us, and would have hired them to do our wedding too if it were taking place in Michigan. These two are gifted artists, and we heartily recommend them to everyone!

But know…read morethat with his attention to detail, his knowledge of DSLRs, and his eye for aesthetics, I would be giving this business a 5-star rating after my session with him even if he had been hired as a stranger. So Abben, my fiance at the time to whom I was newly engaged, and I all happened to live in different states - which made scheduling an engagement photoshoot difficult. So what better time than a shoot on the sandy beaches of the Dominican Republic while on a family vacation? To avoid unflattering shadows, the best times for a shoot are sunrise or sunset, and sunrise is definitely easier to have the beach of a resort all to yourself. But alas, cloudy weather for the only two mornings we had free! Abben not only woke up at 4:00 two mornings in a row with us but dealt with the tricky situation like a champ. After processing the photos, we were really impressed with the adjustments he had made. And speaking of editing, let's just say a long bike ride and insufficient sunscreen led to some awkward tan lines all over my back and shoulders that he also magically erased like a pro. Note that even though Lily wasn't able to be there for our shoot, normally both photographers would be present for double the awesomeness. That makes their pricing an amazing deal because most photographers would charge extra for another camera. Abben & Lily's style tends to be more posed for something like a photoshoot but more photojournalistic for an event. This is helpful for those who aren't trained models (most people) or maybe even hate being in front of a camera because you'll receive great instructions so you feel less awkward. And for an event, they'll blend into the background but still get all the pics you need. Look through the portfolio for these two and you'll see that they pour their hearts plus all their creative juices into their work. The only reason we didn't go with them for our wedding photography was that Abben was in the wedding party, and I wanted him to enjoy himself at the wedding. They are timeless and capture the essence of each couple perfectly. What really drew us to Melissa though, was her unique ability to capture the candid moments. Looking through our gallery, there were of course the fantastic formal photos and more guided shots, but my absolute favorites were all of the other shots, the in the moment shots. She does a great job of capturing people in their best light, even when they're not posing. Based on how flawless our engagement shoot with her went and how stressed I (the bride) was on the day of our wedding, we were a little nervous about the pictures. The engagement shoot was so smooth and we vibed together so well. The wedding day was very overwhelming and we both were worried that it would show on our faces. But every time Melissa was around (which was often thank goodness!), we were both immediately more calm. We had to pause looking through the gallery because they were too good and we were crying too much. We cannot recommend Melissa more! She is top of the line, folks!!!!! I was a neighbor of Julie at Wally Spice and babysat her boys when I was a teenager, and always…read moreadmired her work. When I became engaged to my husband, there was no question who I would ask to be our wedding photographer - I had seen her phenomenal work throughout the years and wouldn't trust my big day with anyone else. Julie did not disappoint. She even flew out to Washington DC to take our engagement pictures (on a weekend it reached 90+ degrees nonetheless) and captured some amazing shots. She really has a sense of the best angles to take with each setting and directs you in a way that still looks completely natural in the pictures. The pictures from our wedding were even more fabulous. We did a photo shoot at my parents' house, an urban shoot in downtown Detroit and Belle Isle, and of course more at the ceremony/reception venue. We have fantastic shots from each of the photo shoots, and had a terribly hard time choosing which to put in an album out of all the pictures we had (it literally took us over a year to select all the pictures!). All around, Julie's photos are gorgeous - I'm so glad we didn't look anywhere else for a wedding photographer! Not only are the pictures great, but she is wonderful to work with; very easy going, flexible, but also has some great suggestions based on her experience. She also does great portraits - we did a photo shoot of our dog (yes, we are THOSE kind of people) and I can't tell you how cute our baby looks (and I also can't tell you how Julie worked her magic and got her to stay still - every picture we have taken of her ourselves is a blurry mess!). They had warned us ahead of time that some of the things they asked us to do would seem weird, but would look cool after the fact, and they were right. Honestly, I had a really good time just chatting and hanging out with them in between shoots and whatnot, which is just an added bonus on top of the amazing job they did. Julie also took some photos of our dog. I wasn't so sure how well that would go: she's a fidgety little thing and unless she's sleeping, I've never got a photo of her that wasn't blurry. Based on the reviews that had been posted, I made an appointment to get a headshot done. Kuwan was…read morenot in Southfield, as stated on the website. I traveled to Troy for the session. I explicitly talked about the image I wanted to portray, During the shooting session, he told me to squinch my eyes to make my smile look genuine. I actually have a genuine smile, but I complied. I also showed him an image that was taken 5 years ago that I liked. At the end of the session, he told me that he wanted me to see how he finished a headshot to give it a professional edge. He picked an image from the session. It was not the image I chose. When he emailed the image three weeks later, I told him that I did not approve of the touchup. I instructed that when he touched up the chosen image to leave my eyebrows alone. His touchup showed a highly arched brow that did not extend to the outer brow bone. The eyes were squinched, making them appear irritated and the makeup was heavy. I didn't hear from Kuwan for a couple of months after he told me that my brows weren't even. When I finally contacted him again, it took a couple of weeks more for him to get back in touch. The first image he sent back was the same one that I had not chosen and had issues with. I contacted him by phone and asked if he even knew which image I had chosen. He told me how to go back to the website and choose the image. A week later he sent an untouched head shot with red eyes. He said he only did a minimal job because I had complained about the heavy makeup. This was not the professional job I was expecting for $150. I will call American Express to get my fee returned. I have the photos to prove this sham of a professional photographer.

From the moment I pulled up in my car, I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable. Ania greeted me and brought me into her beautiful studio. I had brought so many things to wear but I could have brought nothing as she has a whole wardrobe of maternity clothing. I wanted the black turtleneck dress, so we started with that one. Taking the pictures was so easy. I received feedback on where to look and how to move from Ania and the woman working with her that I am blanking on her name. They would stop after a few pictures to show me how they looked so I had a sneak peek. Ania asked a lot of questions about what I wanted when it came to lighting, outfits, poses, etc. I never felt pressured to do anything cheesy or anything that I didn't like. My boyfriend was running late, so I was worried we wouldn't get a ton of pictures with him, but Ania was so patient. We ended up going a little over the hour and a half assigned, and I also had five outfit changes instead of four. She really wanted me to have a lot of options and looks to choose from! Within a day I had the gallery of photos, and only three days after I chose the photos, I had the final edited photos back! It was so fast, and they all look so great. I've already had a photo book printed, and the photos look phenomenal. I am so impressed. It was exactly what I was looking for!
