The owner/operator runs this truck not only to make some extra money during the summer festival/farmers market circuit, but also because she loves to cook and has a passion for food. We loved everything we tried. If I held a big outdoor gathering, I would go out of my way to invite this food truck. Fresh, delicious, creative... a breath of fresh air for tastebuds tired of overpriced sandwiches and tacos. You gotta eat here!! Eat all the fritters!

They have breakfast and lunch menu. The red velvet pancakes with bourbon cream sauce sounded pretty delicious, but I went ahead and ordered lunch. I got the spicy shrimp noodle salad, which was delicious. Noodles, fresh veggies, mango slices, with shrimp and a light spicy vinaigrette. For $8 it was a filling and delicious lunch. My parents ended up going to Hot Mess that same day, and my dad said he liked the chorizo burger (although he said it wasn't very spicy), and my mom had the pulled pork sandwich, which she said you could really taste that it had been smoked (not just bbq sauce). The food here is a bit of a mess, even my noodle salad was messy. The food is pretty varied, but what I had was good and I wouldn't hesitate to try something else from Hot Mess again.

Although I needed to try too many things on the menu so it was expensive lol. They have amazing tacos and home made guac/salsa/chips. The chips are definitely home made because they have that authentic taste. I tried the fish tacos which I really enjoyed. I think overall though my favourite thing on the menu was definitely the guacamole! Yummy! We didn't have to wait for a seat or anything even though it was busy so that was nice. It also has a good neighbourhood vibe where everyone knows each other and its very homey and nice. I also love the little flags they give! I'll definitely be back!

I was very surprised to see that it was fairly empty on a Friday night (not sure if this is the norm). Despite that they had the music going on full blast. The restaurant is fully decorated with Mexican decor. I noticed that they also had a large party room with a stage and a dance floor. I'm guessing this is used for private bookings. The service is very casual. Once you are ready to order you go up to the front to put in your order and pay. A staff member will deliver the food to your table. Although the staff were very kind and friendly, we did notice that once the food arrived, no one came by to check on us. We were never once offered a water refill nor were our empty dishes cleared even though we had long finished our meal. I ordered the fish tacos and our table got salsa and guacamole to share. The guacamole was very fresh and tasty, we all enjoyed it. The salsa was watery so we didn't enjoy it as much. The chips were delicious but a little over baked. The tacos were absolutely delicious and I would get them again. I added some of the fixings from their toppings bar which made it even better. The portions are great for the price. 4 tacos for $17! Can't beat that. We were all stuffed by the end of the night. It would be nice if you were allowed to mix flavours though like maybe 2 of each.

The best part? After a decade they're still probably the best food truck in the city. VUE Weekly named them #1 Best Food Truck 2018 and the show Eat St. featured them in season four. Plus they've been on the Worldwide Faves list on this website this entire time. Locals know that this is the truck that you want - especially for their legendary pork belly sandwich. (If they ever took it off of the menu I think the planet might implode? It's science.) The best way to figure out where Drift is going to be on any given day is to check their website where they've got an up-to-date calendar of their whereabouts. The truck shuts down for the winter so it's always exciting when the end of April rolls around and you know that you're going to be able to start stalking them again. I went to find the truck on the seasons opening of the 124 Grand Market in Westmount, a wonderful farmers' market. Drift does sometimes sell out, so if there's something in particular that you want to eat from them, I'd recommend arriving early. (This will also help you to avoid waiting in a giant lineup.) It's always exciting when the turquoise-painted truck comes into view. These days, the menu on offer is usually pretty standard. They've got four different sandwiches - all amazing. (Although back in the day they used to sometimes do a duck confit sandwich that you don't see anymore and I'd love to see that one make a glorious return!) They've also got some sides that are very good as well. You know the drill, you approach the truck window to make your order with the friendly people inside, then wait a few minutes until they call your name and hand you a brown paper bag filled with goodness. And they do take cards as payment these days. To drink they usually have interesting local canned beverages and they're often different from one visit to the next. I spotted the Troubled Monk Ginger Ale Soda (from Red Deer) and decided to give it a try. This craft ginger ale was quite possibly the best ginger ale that I've ever tasted. The flavour was so real! You could tell that it's made with real ginger but it also had a very unique and wonderful molasses flavour that I really enjoyed. If you see this soda around you should definitely grab some! Next, I moved in on the Sides. We were going to have a true Drift feast on this day! There were four different items to choose from and I had to try the Poutine (Made with beef gravy & fresh cheese curds - $6.50) because I think that this might be something a bit new that they're doing. First of all, their hand-cut fries are already super famous and they season them with "Drift spice" which involves cumin, fennel, mustard seed and chili. (They also do their own housemade ketchup made with cardamom and ginger, which is excellent.) So the fries alone are already something special... But then they went and turned them into a poutine. This very well may be the best poutine happening in Edmonton right now. I'm super picky about poutine (as you may already know) and this one crushes it on every level. The fries are ultra crispy and golden (likely double fried) and dusted in their delicious seasoning. The cheese curds were fresh and squeaky, piled on high. And the gravy was hot and savoury. THIS is the poutine that Edmonton needs to know about. I also ordered the Broccoli Salad (Broccoli, apple, carrot, raisin & herb aioli - $4.75), because health! Loved this little salad. This is a great way to add something a bit more fresh to your Drift meal and I loved the bright combination of veggies and fruit. The broccoli was crunchy and the apple and raisin gave it a nice sweetness. You really can't go wrong with this salad and you'll feel like you ate vegetables. And then it's sandwich time. The Pork Belly Sandwich (Chili mayo, pickled carrot & daikon, fresh cilantro - $9.00) is truly of Edmonton legend and I doubt that I'll ever be able to get myself to order anything else. This sandwich is everything. I dove in immediately and reveled in the symphony of flavours. First and foremost is the pork belly that has taken on an incredible caramelized glaze which gives it a bit of a crunch. It's sliced thin and the fat is rendered down perfectly. Next, the pickled vegetables and cilantro give the sandwich a definite Vietnamese vibe, and the slight kick from the chili mayo is the perfect way to round everything out. The bun reminds me of the soft and crusty Portuguese type. It's a perfect sandwich. Incredibly delicious and consistently amazing for a whole decade, this sandwich must never, never go away. I love Drift. They're a major part of the culinary tapestry in this city and they've certainly played a huge roll in making the food truck scene everything that it is today. They've really cracked the code by offering a small handful of items on their m

The market itself is fun, however, this spot needs way more tables and chairs, we were lucky to find a spot. Generally speaking their menu is fairly limited. Smash burgers, fries, onion rings, little bags of chips, and some bottled water and pop. It would be nice for them to have some cheaper pop options than the expensive cans. Hopefully they will have a more permanent restaurant like space if they get more business. Food was excellent. Definitely worth the price that they charge. I went with the Oklahoma burger which was a double smash patty with an absolute tonne of fried onions. SO DELICIOUS. Perfect patties, lovely grilled bun and the toppings were so lovely and fresh. My husband went with a double smash patty. He enjoyed his burger as well. We went with an order of fries and an order of onion rings. Both were fresh and made to order. If you like onion rings, these are excellent. Really we could have split one order of rings and each have a burger and we would have been full. Service was friendly but a bit on the slow side. Don't come here if you are in a rush. Worth the trip for the burger, and see if you can find some treasures with your shopping.

Best of all they're stuffed with goodness for a reasonable price. My new favourite food truck! The al Pastor tacos are great, love the roasted pineapple, it's a little tropical vacation reminder with each bite. Add some hot sauce and it's fantastic, spicy salty sweet porky goodness. Highly recommended. The barbacoa tacos were less enjoyable. The meat is less flavourful and has a dry texture even with sauce added. Strangely it was also too much for the taco to handle, tearing through the shell quickly for all three. It could use a little punch, some extra veg or something, it was bland to me. The tostadas are famous they say, and now I know why! You'll need some forks and lots of napkins, it's a messy meal, but so worth it. The three tostadas come loaded with meat (chicken), beans, feta and lots of fresh veg for $10. Best deal and meal on the menu in my opinion. If you're bored of basic food truck fare involving combinations of burgers, buns, hotdogs and fries, Calle Mexico is there for you. I can't wait to try their restaurant!

I asked if there were any chicken pot pies and she didn't think so but then said yes, they had one!
