This salon is terrible. Called for a blow out and once I got there, the stylist tried to send me out the door just after just blow drying. She said I was lucky the salon had TWO textured hair specialists and that this was what she could do with the time she had. Doesn't sound like my problem. She complained the entire time as she flat ironed and then they charged me $177. To wash, trim ends, and pass a comb while the blower is facing my hair. Enormous rip off. read more

I tried Dawn's because I needed a hairdresser closer to my home. I asked for someone who was proficient with short hair. The good news is the hairdresser, Heather (?), was amazing with the razor cut on the back of my head. The bad, she barely cut the front area or blended the sides. I could have insisted she do more but she was crabby and seemed to have eaten something that didn't agree.... All in all, I just paid somewhere else to finish my cut. The bill with a scalp treatment for the partial cut was $110. Which when added to the cut to finish my hair, means I paid over $170.00 for my hair. I agree with the reviewer regarding the staff's attitude...I felt invisible. And now, I am. Never again... I'll drive further. read more

The place is horrible. I wanted a simple blonde root retouch up and haircut, but the bill was padded. Like $30 extra for gloss (toner). I have never needed gloss before. And I wasn't told gloss was extra. And charging extra because a little more bleach was needed--a stylist has never charged me extra for needing to mix a little more bleach. Besides, I'm a guy and have short hair. The place is sleazy and unethical. I hope they go out of business. I don't recommend Nina (the stylist I had) or the salon. read more

The female receptionist looked miserable and talked like she had a stick up her ass it was halirious I honestly laughed at her. Googled salons and called in for a same-day appointment. When I got there it was unclear where the entrance is because the back door with the awning was locked, the other back door didn't seem like you could go in and the front door was open but apparently not the door you want to go through. They all seemed baffled that I was there even though I'd just called 20 minutes earlier. I hadn't been referred by anyone and they seemed puzzled that that was possible. They have such "GREAT" reviews on Google so I scheduled an app. for my highlights with full confidence. My appointment was with Christine. As I read:... " she has been a stylist for over 6 years with Dawn's Pizzazz.", so I tough she knew her job. NOT AT ALL!!!! She didn't even bother to check how the color is developing and if she matched the right highlights. After 20 min she took the foil out and washed my hair. I was done in 1h, 20 min. which is amazingly quick for my long hair. It takes always at least 2h to do my hair. The place is so dark that I couldn't even see if my hair came out OK. I assumed everything was perfect. At home I saw that the color is totally wrong and my fine highlights became yellow tick Picasso strokes!!! read more

New York City/Westchester/Big City Transplants: Take Note -- If you are used to the polished, relaxing, pampered, sort-of-high end salon, this is NOT it. Dawn's Pizzazz may be the most professional salon in Danbury, but they have a ways to go before coming close to a mid-level salon of big cities. That said, they do have a "small town" feel. Today, I went in for a haircut. I depend greatly on a stylist to use their skills to do what they think is best. I am not a stylist. I do not know what cut is best for me. All I know is the preferred length I want. Considering that is the only guideline I give, the stylist should feel free enough to do as she pleases. I'm hard to shock. Don't play it safe. Everyone seems set in their ways there and too afraid to offend their clientele by really trying something new and creative. Dawn's is hard core mediocre with not much in the "creative" area. They are great when you tell them exactly what you want, but are completely lost the moment you give them freedom and the chance to really show their skills and vision. On a final note, the salon itself is not polished, clean, or even easily accessible. It feels cramped and haphazardly put together. There isn't enough parking in the back, so bring quarters for street parking. read more

I should start this by saying I haven't been here in 4+ years because of a traumatizing experience. I reluctantly came here after my stylist moved and I was in desperate need of a trim. At the time, I had shoulder length, fine blonde hair. I specially asked for 1-2" max as my hair was already pretty short. I GOT HACKED! The back of my hair had at least 6" come off, and I ended up having to get an inverted bob to make it look acceptable. I was mortified and ended up crying in the chair. No one tried to comfort me. In fact, when I was paying, the desk girl asked if i liked my trim. Are you kidding me? This place is tiny, and I was just balling my eyes out a few feet away from you. They were perfectly polite, however extraordinarily overpriced. I went to have two beaded extensions removed (it took less than 90 seconds to remove them both) and they charged me $10. It annoyed me to no end. I will not be back because of that. They should've charged $5, and I would've left a $5 tip. I have been getting my hair cut by Suzanne at Dawn's Pizzazz for several years now. Dawn's is an upscale salon with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable waiting area for the kids or hubby. Absolutely gorgeous hair-washing area with tin-textured ceiling that makes getting your hair shampooed even more fun b/c you don't have to stare at boring ceiling tiles! I have gotten hair cuts, pedicures, massages here and every service has been delightful. I recently took advantage of the Brazilian Blowout they are offering - and my hair has never looked better! Soft, smooth and silky! Takes me no time at all now to blow dry my hair straight - what a time saver! I recommend this service! :) Of course, I must mention their bathrooms are great - clean and nicely decorated!! (You know I always check out the restrooms!) I love Dawn's and have been a LOYAL, repeat customer for 7 years now, thanks to my amazing stylist Carmelo. I had "heard" about Dawn's my entire life growing up but decided I didn't have the money to spend at a high end luxury salon. I ALSO thought I was good enough at doing my own hair... coloring, etc. Until, I had a catastrophe!! I dyed my hair with NON-PERMANENT dye and my (bleached) blonde hair had started to turn purple from some black streaks I had put in. I couldn't handle it, so I made the first appointment with anyone who would see me at Dawn's.. because I KNOW they will NOT just strip it and send me home, I knew they had the tools to really FIX me (c'mon ladies, we all know that when our hair is ruined, so is our self esteem!) and I was willing to spend for that. They used a GENTLE stripper so as not to have my hair fall out, and worked for hours on me to SAFELY get the disgusting dye out. I was hooked up with Carmelo that day, and from that day forward I would NEVER go anywhere else. He is creative, takes risks, and leaves my hair with how ever many colors I want... no matter how crazy, all perfectly thrown together in one amazing palette that leaves EVERYONE asking me where I get it done. He's a savior and I have sent MANY people to him, most of which still are regulars! He came up with the most CREATIVE solution to my bleach blonde/purple striped hair, officially convinced me that BLONDE is NOT my natural color and educated me on my skin tone/eye color, and has sworn me away from everything that would damage my hair, including straightening irons (all you need is the right product and a blow dryer... most stylists don't care to tell you this or help your hair's well being!). As for the salon, I don't know what type of spoiled or "high maintenance" person has reviewed prior, but this place is beautiful, clean, always has endless coffee, tea, bagels, orange juice (sometimes mimosas!) at the front, and of course they only use the highest quality products. The reason for the location being in a tough spot is because that's where she started her business (I believe!) and has stayed ever since due to a loyal following. Dawn has literally become one of the most successful salon owner's in the area, and for good reasons. I had a really odd experience here. I came on a Saturday morning for a bang trim and a blowout before a brunch party in my honor. I got dropped off and picked up by different people, so I had bags and a dress with me (I live in NYC and don't have a car). When I asked them to hold onto my dress for me during my service the gentleman helping me looked super perplexed and suggested hanging it in the salon bathroom on the hook on the back of the door. I don't like to complain but I just thought that was weird to be hanging in the bathroom people were using, so I asked if it was possible to put it somewhere else (Um, maybe on their coat rack? It was 15 degrees, and they were taking coats and hanging them SOMEWHERE). He instead hung my dress literally behind the checkout desk off a rack of products, at which the desk girls seemed annoyed. I just don't understand why it was such a big deal and why I had to be made to feel awkward about it. Anyway, off to a weird start. When I got to the hair chair there was no place to put my handbag. Everyone around me just had their bags sitting on the floor. Collecting hair. Other peoples' hair. Gross! They should put hooks somewhere at the chair... there is a ledge at each mirror that could have a hook below it. A very junior girl did my blowout, and while she was a perfectly lovely person she just didn't seem to know what she was doing. And she trimmed my bangs weirdly, which I had to fix myself when I got home. I booked this appointment six weeks ago and asked for an experienced stylist and said I didn't care how much it cost. Therefore, I feel like the quality of service should have been better. When I went to check out, the already-annoyed-at-me-because-of-my-dress-hanging-in-her-space gal at the desk seemed personally miffed that I didn't want to give them my email address (I don't live anywhere near the salon and so don't want to receive email from them, which I politely explained to her). And, as I'm finishing paying, she asks if she can book my next appointment. At this point I just laughed and repeated, "Thanks but I didn't live in the area," (what I had just told her 20 seconds prior). Then she got an attitude with me and said, "I am required to ask." Um, ok. But you've been in a conversation before right? And if someone already told you something do you need to ask again? Why was this place like the twilight zone? I moved to the area and needed a new stylist, I went to Dawn's for a cut and blonde highlights. My stylist was nice and we spent a long time talking about what I wanted so I was certain she understood what I meant. She decided I only needed partial highlights to keep up my color so I put my faith in her. My highlights came out terrible, it was difficult to even tell she had put color into my hair. The cut was fine, nothing to write home about. I was shocked when it came time to pay and my bill was 180...for half a head of single color highlights? Since i spent more than I thought the haircut was worth, I would expect the salon to be clean and attentive. I found the hairwashing area to be very dirty and the waiting area was super cramped. The receptionist was rather rude, not greeting me upon arrival and giving me attitute when I didnt have cash for a tip and asked her to charge my card. Overall I would not recommend Dawn's. I thought it was overpriced and the stylists not well trained. While I was getting my hair cut they were having a debate about what keratin treatments were, which i felt should be common knowledge in a salon. Maybe for a simple cut this could be a good place to go, but for anything more, look for another salon. read more

Today, I had my appointment moved for the FOURTH time since January. I get maybe once, or even, thanks to the horrific snow of this past winter, twice. I don't get four times. Being so tired of the dreaded ponytail everyday I made the call. The receptionist suggested Tasia for the time I could get in there I had never met Tasia , she was absolutely fabulous listened to what I wanted and I felt very comfortable. Even when living in Boston, I would make it a point to schedule an appointment when I came to Danbury to visit family and friends. I currently live over an hour away in New York, and still come to Dawn's for haircuts. The service is exceptional, and the staff is always friendly, greets you with a smile, and takes great care to make sure that you're satisfied with your experience. It's evident that the owner loves what she does, and has surrounded herself with a team of highly-trained professionals who all take great pride in their work. I was impressed when I found out that the staff is kept up-to-date on the latest innovations in the industry with continuous training on techniques and products. I know this because I talk to the staff when I'm there (which is easy because they are all so gracious and outgoing), and have been lucky enough to be at the salon while they've been previewing new products. You will never feel like "just another client." If you want to feel like you're important, and get the personal attention and professionalism that's lacking in so many other businesses, then Dawn's is the place. I also have a lot of respect for a small business that does so much for the community. The owner takes the time to give back, sponsoring countless events to raise money for numerous charities and families in need. Most recently, she and her team donated their time and their talent to raise over $63,000 for the Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut. That doesn't sound like someone who is "arrogant, self-absorbed and useless" to me. Quite the opposite. As for the parking, there are plenty of spaces in the back lot, and they're free. Melissa and Brenna were wonderful and very creative! She went in for my trial with a general idea of what she wanted and was so pleased with the outcome. I've gotten my haircut there in the past (only a handful of times)... and while my haircut was good and my stylist was nice, I did not get that comfortable feeling when I was there. Most of the stylists seemed pretentious and phony. I definitely got the vibe of arrogance and just almost everyone being stuck up... like they were better than everyone else. And because I felt like most of the people there (staff) were snobby, I have not returned (not to mention, Dawn's Pizazz is overpriced). Requested bayalage which led to a disaster. My naturally dark hair was was white mixed with multiple shades of yellow and began falling out in chunks. I went back later that day and asked for it to be toned down and stated that the process left my hair in horrible condition. I expressed concern regarding the massive amounts of hair breaking. My hair was toned twice and the comments about it falling out were disregarded. I ended up going somewhere else, cutting off 4 inches and getting a series of treatments multiple times in order to restore the condition. In all I probably ended up spending over 400. I have been getting highlights for 15 years and never had a similar experience. read more

Poor service. I would never go there for my makeup again. I told the make up artist exactly what I wanted for my wedding make up during a trial. During that trail she was talking all about herself and shrugged when I showed her pictures and then told me that she has a different idea in mind and did not listen to any of my request. She even booked me for an face peel 3 days prior to my wedding!!! When I insisted that I did not want that. I had to call back and cancel because she would not take no as an answer. I called back and asked to speak to the manager because I was dissatisfied and informed her what I went through. She insisted to keep my appointment and to talk to the make up artist and to show her what I wanted. The make up artist was a senior that was there for 10 years. I should of listened to my gut instinct and cancelled. When I got there on my wedding day, I had my hair done first. I loved the hair and she did a terrific job. When I went upstairs to get my make up done the make up artist entered the room she did not even say hello to my mother, my maid of honor, or myself. After I showed her three pictures and told her in detail what I wanted for my make up. She barely spoke and did her own thing. My maid of honor was talking to me and the make up artist stated in a loud voice, "DO NOT TALK" 2 inches away from my face and with a troubled look in her eye. I was rather appalled and stunned that she would even say that to a customer, let alone a bride, and let alone someone that was listening and not even talking. I am very dissatisfied. If you want nice make up go elsewhere. Even though I was happy with my hair. My maid of honor and my mother's curls were coming lose within 30 minutes of leaving the salon. Very reasonably priced but I was disappointed with my cut after I washed it a couple of times. The angles were pretty bad and the back of my hair was uneven. Unable to get an appointment w/ my regular stylist, the front desk talked me into an appointment with another girl who ultimately did a terrible job. There was a bridal party in the salon at the time of my appointment and and my chair was right next to the bride so my stylist didn't really pay much attention to me. My cut came out very uneven and I had to go back and have her fix it. She insisted that it wasn't uneven and only trimmed it a teeny bit. It was still uneven when I walked out the second time. I also agree with the other reviewer about the cramped layout of the salon and the overall dingy appearance. The lighting in there is very bad. I want to go back and have my hair done by the stylist I wanted to see in the first place, but my overall experience was so terrible that I cannot even bring myself to make the call. The back seating in the wash station is very cramped and they move you around constantly. Some of the stylists seem snooty but the others are excellent and very sweet. I had at simple trim here once by a girl Brenna (with my hair straight). She did a very nice job and told me that when I was ready to get my hair relaxed again to call her, so I did. After making my apt about 3 weeks out I show up excited to have my curly hair gone. I get there and she tells me that she has never done this before and doesn't feel conformable so I should make an apt with some body else, (remind you she is the one who told me to come to her she started hair school when she was 17 meaning she has about 10 years since she is around 25 years old.). So I made an apt with somebody else for a soon as I could which was 2 weeks out. I waited an on the day of my apt she calls me and say that she and the other stylists (who does all the salons relaxer's) does not feel comfortable doing may hair because I have so much; mind you my hair is thick but shorter than ear length. The point of doing a relaxer is to make hair thinner and not curly since I was due for a touch up it was curly.. Because she had now canceled on me twice, I had a free hair cut, because of this I decided to leave my hair curly and cut it short. I made an apt and once again I waited two weeks for them to call me them morning of my apt to cancel because she had her wisdoms teeth out!!I UNPROFESSIONAL! AND UNEXPECTTABLE. she wanted to once again may another apt but I told them no. I HAVE A FREE HAIR CUT AND I WILL NOT GO THERE EVER AGAIN! seems to be these "stylist" are not very good at there job and most defiantly not professional.
