Well that is about to change because there is a crazy amount of construction going on in the form of two centers directly across from each other. If you are driving to the outlets via 400, you will encounter the Publix Shopping on the right and the Kroger complex on the left, just prior to reaching the outlets. The first thing I noticed about the Publix center is that there a couple of new restaurants there, Brooklyn Joe's, (currently open) and La Hacienda Mexican restaurant, (opening soon). These are a great addition because my biggest complaint about this area has always been about the limited number of restaurants. I am so excited to just have some new options and not feel that I have to wait until I get home in order to eat. There are also other retail businesses in this center such as a nail salon, pet store and other stores not yet identified. Directly across the street is that behemoth of a grocery store, Kroger. I visited both stores and Kroger wins hands down! We are talking about a bicycle vs a Harley with a side car. This will be the place you will want to stop if you want to eat a meal in-house, visit Starbucks, get some delicious donuts, great organic groceries and so much more. A new Marshalls is scheduled to open very soon and Ross will be added along with a couple of other retailers. I imagine that everything will be up and running by mid-January. I will certainly keep you posted! In the meantime, you will have to deal with the crazy road construction and increased traffic issues. My objective is to just avoid those high traffic times knowing that it will all be worth it in the end!

Love this mountain community. Just spent several days here with the grands and they had a blast!…read moreFrom bear spotting and deer gazing, the beautiful woods offer so much to see. Over 50 miles of hiking trails, three lakes, a beautiful marina, and two pools, there is something for everyone. The girls loved the rock slide and both pools. There are ample lifeguards, which is reassuring. The Beach Club offers a pool and a beach on the lake side. There is an inflatable obstacle course which kids love, too. There are so many amenities, you always have something to do. We aren't golfers but the course is beautiful. The lodge restaurant is set to reopen soon after a complete renovation, but there is also a fabulous restaurant just outside the gate. (Yes, this is a gated community) The restaurant is called Home and it serves delicious meals. You can get something as simple as a great burger or something fancier like seared halibut. The girls loved the ice cream shop just outside the gate. There's another restaurant in the same plaza, called the Lucky Hare and it's supposed to be good as well. Big Canoe is the perfect place to visit, whether you are looking for adventure or a relaxing time in the woods, surrounded by countless wildlife.

This house had 5 beds & bunks in 1 bedroom- PERFECT for a large crowd. I am terribly sorry, but if I felt better I would have taken a TON of pics!! 3 stories!! Upstairs had 2 large bedrooms & jack/jill bathroom. Spacious!! Main floor had 1/2 bath, master bed/bath, large kitchen & a small living room area w/fireplace. Downstairs had 2 bedrooms & jack/jill bath, laundry & a spacious extra "livingroom" Long deck could view the golf course & beautiful mountains!!! There is a small screened in porch w/dining table too. Downstairs had ANOTHER deck with a hot tub (didn't use). If you are wanting a relaxing vacation spot, this is great! Houses are VERY close to eachother, but you really don't feel it! Enough space for all to truly relax & be safe in this beautiful gated community!! I'm sure not cheap. 4 couples split a 2 night stay at $200 each. We could have had at least another couple or 2 to split more! Bring extra coffee pods, TP, paper towels, napkins & food if you are staying over a few days. A full kitchen & lots of dishes, pots pans, etc! But not FULLY stocked. Go, relax & enjoy yourselves!!!

Located near the Braselton Town Hall, this marker points out the history of the earliest settlers…read morehere and how this started to grow into what it is today. The marker reads, "In 1876 William H. Braselton, Sr. and his wife, Susan Hosch Braselton, established a 796-acre farm in western Jackson County. The Braseltons' children, Henry, Green, John Oliver, Belle, and Lena , grew up working on the family farm, developing several support businesses such as a store and fertilizer operation. The arrival of first the railroad in 1902 and then a state highway in 1927 allowed expansion of farming operations. In 1916 the town of Braselton was incorporated. In addition to the farm, the development of a mercantile and grocery business as well as a grist and flour mill led the brothers to form Braselton Brothers, Inc. in 1921. Braselton Brothers also funded local schools, and published the monthly Four County Booster from 1912-1933. This is marker number 78-3 and it was erected in 2006 by The Georgia Historical Society and the Braselton Memorial Cemetery Foundation. There is free street parking nearby. Dams are structures built to primarily obstruct the flow of water usually built across a stream or river constructed by man or beavers, yes there are many type of dams and in some cases provide a life-sustaining resource to people although some seem to obstruct the life of some - it's been rumored that salmon hate dams as do those that work to promote to protect the swimming right of fish. I guess one would have to weigh the pros and cons to pick a side being millions of each species are affected since humans eat fish the fish usually lose. Dams are an extremely important part of this nation's infrastructure--equal in importance to bridges, roads, airports, and other major elements of the infrastructure. They can serve several functions at once, including water supply for domestic, agricultural, industrial, and community use; flood control; recreation; and clean, renewable energy through hydropower. It's nice to know this dam has a revenue stream beside my five buck so the return on the investment is shortened. I came here at the right time on the right day - the generating stations were operating so the lower river was filled and the water was racing to its next destination so probably not the best time to float on a tube or kayak. I was somewhat surprised or maybe amused to see signage on the bank of this river that's designates the shoreline as a life-preserver zone, thankfully the government is providing this knowledge or we might have some people from the gene-pool wondering in to this massive deadly volume of rapidly flowing water, it seems the wildlife in the area understands the danger without barriers or communications. I wish I could of gotten closer to the structure so I could see the water boil from beneath the discharge of the generators but I was happy to see they do have a walk bridge a little downstream of the dam that allows you to cross over and experience the power of the release up close without a life preserver and only requires a little common sense sometimes a "danger sign" isn't needed for the obvious threat. I'm a fan of dams and understand I'm screwed if the dam burst during my visit even though I am parked in a designated paved parking lot far below the water level on the other side of this massive structure even though there is no signage inform me of this fact...

The historical marker reads as the following BATTLE OF TALIWA Two and one-half miles to the east, near the confluence of Long-Swamp Creek and the Etowah River, is the traditional site of Taliwa, scene of the fiercest and most decisive battle in the long war of the 1740's and 50's between the Cherokee and Creek Indians. There, about 1755, the great Cherokee war-chief, Oconostota, led 500 of his warriors to victory over a larger band of Creeks. This marker points out that history and then what happened. It reads, "Auraria, (Gold), in 1832 the scene of Georgia's first gold rush, was named by John C. Calhoun, owner of a nearby mine worked by Calhoun slaves. Auraria and Dahlonega were the two real gold towns in the U.S. before 1849. Between 1829 and 1839 about $20,000,000 in gold was mined in Georgia's Cherokee country. From Auraria in 1858 the "Russell boys", led by Green Russell, went west and established another Auraria near the mouth of Cherry Creek that later became Denver, Colo. Green Russell uncovered a fabulous lode called Russell Gulch near which was built Central City, Colo., "richest square mile on earth."" If you remember your chemistry and periodical tables, the symbol for gold is "Au" as in Gert Fröbe's excellent portrayal as the villain Auric Goldmember in the Sean Connery film of 1964.
