The Gainesville DMV, a morning renewal, quick & breezy.

Close to 5 stars but had to drop one because on my way out (before they'd technically opened yet -- it was THAT quick and efficient of a visit!) the restroom had no toilet paper. Folks, when your establishment has just opened first thing in the morning, you'd think that something like TP would've been stocked! I've used this DMV before and always with speedy and positive results. One tends to think of Patty and Selma from the Simpsons and how terrible going to the DMV can be, but the Gainesville location is pretty great. I got there 20 min. before they opened, and in all fairness, had all of my paperwork in order and had completed the online "Skip-a-Step" form. The friendly gent at the entryway had just printed out my number and while handing it to me, my number was called over the loudspeaker, resulting in a comical "Woah!" response from me when my sunglasses fell off my head in surprise at being summoned to the counter that fast. Christopher helped me and he was easy-going and helpful. Seems that after this renewal I won't have to return to do it in person, so I'm glad that I'm peacin' out the Gainesville DMV on a high note!

i was absolutely amazed at how amazing of an experience this was. from the amount of parking spaces, to the greeter at the door. They explained the entire process for what needs to be done to get a Georgia State License., and i had additional questions ,that the lady was willing to assist me with as well. While i was sitting down waiting for my number to be called, a few people overheard my conversation and striked up a conversation with me as well, giving me some 'hints' on good foods in the area and where to go / where not to go. it was amazing on how nice these people were, especially since my only previous experiences with the DMV had been those in NY...(which were horrendous) When i was called up to the desk, the lady behind the counter and i had some small talk. she told me that she had lived in GA here entire life, and that she loved it there (i had asked her how long she was living here) She also mentioned some key areas to check out, including Lake Lanier, Mary Alice park and old federal park! (those are now on my to do list). after taking my photo and doing a brief eye exam, in addition to taking my documents (old NY drivers license, birth certificate, SS card and a copy of 2 bills), i was issued a temporary GA license. Great experience b/c the people were amazing. Great way to be 'welcomed' to georgia!

I already asked her politely for detail and was waiting in line then reaching to the guy at 2nd steps and he told us that he needs 2 pieces of proof so that we have to wait in line AGAIN ( 40 minutes of waiting ). After I came to step 2 which kiosk they asked me for homeowner appearance, I'm from another state ( State of California ) so idk how dmv proof in Georgia works. But seems like her unpleasance to me based on my race, she also wanted to kick us out just because I'm quite unpatient at this time and I told her to respect my time. I recommend you to come to another dmv service although it would take you a slight further, you deserve better service than that No justificational reasons for your rudeness, if you don't want to work there just find another job. Just like me, they had camped out the night before to make sure we they got a good spot in line. Trust me - you don't want to get there late and take a chance of not seeing all the greats. Martha "Mugshot" Matheny snaps your photo. Carl "The Car Guy" quizzes your knowledge of road law. Rumor has it he was an extra in 'Mad Max'. Don't be fooled - you don't have to come to a full stop at a "yield" sign. Then there's "Road Rage" Randy. He will take you out on the road for your drivers test. Don't get him upset! The best though is "Blind" Betty. She does the eye exam and is quite the looker!!! She's really is a sight for sore eyes! Si! Se Habla espanol - but you're out of luck if you only speak German. In the Summer the AC is always cranked down, but be sure they keep the door closed so as not to let any air out. Don't forget your gear! Bring a sweater and rain jacket. Yes - a towel may be wise to pack as well. I was hoping there would be food trucks and entertainment for the kids, but you will have to make do with a vending machine. No drip or French press coffee. I heard rumors of a Starbucks going in 2020!! I'll be honest, this place is such a good time, that I'll throw my license out in the trash the day I receive it in the mail- just so I have an excuse to go back again!! See ya next year DOT crew! Moving to the area I knew I'd have to make a stop here and dreading it, I put it off for as long as possible. I looked up online to make sure I had all of my information before going and I also filled out some online forms to hopefully make my life easier too. Once you're there you meet with the reception who basically asks why you're here and helps point you in the right direction. From there, you'll eventually get a number and it's a waiting game. Fortunately for me, the wait was not long. I had all of my paperwork and truthfully, the associate was so nice! I was in and out maybe within 30 minutes and I had my new temporary license while I waited for my actual license to mail. It couldn't have been easier.

I guess they assume that everyone knows what to do, but once I got that assistance. I was in and out in under ten minutes. You can also do the application online prior to arriving. Sucks that by time I got home, the Miami airport had sent me my lost license, so now I have two valid licenses. Sucks even more that license pictures are now black and white and there is no color option, not even if you're willing to pay more. Otherwise, its the DMV. You know what to expect.
