Great place, great location, great price. This is your typical Days Inn. Everything you need in a hotel minus the microwave.(No microwave) The room was clean, The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was clean with plenty of towels, air conditioner worked great. Free continental breakfast was ok, just muffins, wrapped pastries, coffee, cereal, boxed juices and no bagels or bread for toast :( I was hoping for a bagel at least. Kind of shabby but free none the less. Close to walk and rent bikes if you want to go to the zoo or just bike on the beach or even all the way to the bird refuge (which is what I did). Close enough to walk to the beach and pier, some of the wine tasting rooms and a couple of restaurants. There is also a 7-11 just up the street within walking distance. Days Inn is located right across from a park. I saw some homeless people hanging out there, but they looked harmless. There were also families playing baseball there at the park. The walls of the hotel are a bit thin, you can hear people opening and closing doors, but nothing too bothersome. I gave it a four because you can't beat the price and location. I think it was $100-110 per night weekday, I was here on a Thursday. I wanted to also add on a night (Friday) and they jacked up the price to $150 then later the next day while checking out Friday morning, I asked the front desk how much for the night and she told me it was now $175! I also just looked online and saw $182 for a Friday night! So....book early and try a week day if you want to get the best deal. This was the cheapest/decent place I found in town and was worth $110 per night....but for $182 I'd stay elsewhere.

This place was definitely a disappointment. We showed up for a family vacation and the hotel is conveniently located next to the beach and shops. There's a park right across the street with people playing baseball which was fun to watch. When we went into our room it was to be expected for an older hotel. We saw blood on our pillow and comforter! It looked like it had been there for a little while. The first night we stayed I woke up with a lot of bug bites on my legs, arms, and back. Thought maybe it was just my luck. The next night we stayed I woke up with even more bite and my husband and son woke up with bites as well! I've tried to contact the hotel about this and they will not answer me. Very disappointing way to end our vacation.

They have a garage that opens around 8 or 9 AM (they don't open it too early because the garage door is loud for guests) and has free stuff for you to use including beach cruiser bikes, beach lounge chairs, towels, beach toys, umbrellas, and more. The lobby has snacks (granola bars, bananas, orange, etc) that were accessible during their hours (they close at 9) as well as a water machine from which you can fill your aluminum water bottles from your hotel room. I liked how they didn't use plastic trash bags, no plastic bottles, and no plastic soap containers. It seemed that they were really eco-friendly. We interacted with 3 hotel staff members and all were helpful and friendly. They gave us a list of kid-centric things to do. We stayed in unit 8 which had a queen bed and a living room as well as a kitchenette. The kitchen had everything we needed and the tools were clean, new and orderly. The unit was clean as well. The palm trees in the middle of the parking lot are nicely lit at nice. The water pressure in the bathroom was super strong. I liked that the bathroom had a window as well as the kitchen. Some rooms have a small patio door in the back. From our kitchen window we could see plants and flowers. Outside of our room there were cute tables with lots of flowers as well. It's a great location and walking distance to the beach. The bad: We accidentally went a few blocks down from here to Harbor View Inn first and then realized our mistake. Two different hotels! The bathroom is on the small side. The interesting: The parking lot is small so they don't allow big trucks/vans. If you check-out before 7:30 am (like we did) then you will leave your keys in the mailbox out front by their office.

Perfect anniversary stay -- peaceful, friendly, and right on the beach…read more We stayed at Santa Barbara Inn for our 25th anniversary and paid for the beachside view. It was absolutely worth it. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, and what really stood out was their text-based concierge system. They text you before arrival, and you can ask for anything during your stay -- they respond quickly and clearly. Honestly, that alone made the stay feel effortless. They even had the car ready before we got downstairs. It felt like having a pocket concierge. The view was fantastic, noise levels were low, and the beach is literally across the street, right at a crosswalk. We spent a lot of time on the balcony -- the room was large, the patio was generously sized, and we loved reading out there with the sounds of birds and seals in the background. Beds were very comfortable, the bathroom had great water pressure, and the jetted tub was basically a sauna -- a huge plus after walking all day. Free water bottles in the room were also appreciated. We ate at Convivo onsite -- it was fine, solid food, but a bit pedestrian flavor-wise. That said, there are so many excellent places to eat in Santa Barbara, and we walked to several without any trouble. Very walkable area for both beach time and dining. For car lovers: there's constant classic car and hot rod cruising along the beach, which was fun to watch from the balcony. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable for the location, room size, and level of service. If you're looking for a peaceful, clean, friendly place that's perfect for couples or a special occasion, this is absolutely the place.

It is not, however, somewhere I would personally recommend unless you are mainly looking for a place to crash. We booked a room over the phone the same day we arrived and were happy to receive a discount, which brought the total to just over $300 after fees. Having been away from Santa Barbara for many years, we were excited to have a restful and celebratory evening and trusted the internet's recommendation of this place. The service was nice enough when we arrived, but the lack of amenities and the quality of the bed and pillows were a real letdown. I wish I had called the other hotels nearby to ask about their rates before committing, but we were on a road trip and didn't have the patience. Our room was modern and clean, but it faced and was right above aneighboring parking lot, and that combined with the street noise, was not especially conducive to rest. The AC unit also made a remarkable amount of noise. It did not bother me too much, but for light sleepers it could be a challenge. The best parts were the exterior, which feels very Santa Barbara, the free parking, and the complimentary pastries at breakfast. That said, there are several inns and hotels around the same rate, or sometimes only $50-$80 more after fees and parking, that offer on-property bars, restaurants, pools, and amenities I had assumed were fairly standard at a $300-a-night inn or hotel, including things as simple as Q-tips and comfortable pillows, and bathroom doors which actually insulate your private moments from the rest of the room. We should have done more research beforehand and noticed that this place did not have a pool or any facilities beyond a vending machine. However, it appeared in online results alongside full-service hotels rather than motels, so I expected a little more. My primary complaint is the bed and pillows. The pillows were barely more than bags filled with an extremely lightweight, shapeless foam material, and the mattress sank so deeply that the bed felt more like a nice pull-out couch than a proper hotel bed. The pillows reminded me of what I bought at Target for $11 before moving into my college dorm room. Fine in a motel for $150/ night, disappointing for twice that. The free parking seems to be a major draw, and it is certainly convenient, but I would still encourage people to explore other options if they have an extra $50-$80 to spend and care about the quality of the room where they spend the night. With one exception, the nearest restaurants and bars are about a 10-15-minute walk away. State Street is at least a 12-minute, 0.6-mile walk, while many other inns and hotels in the area have bars and food on the property or immediately nearby. The beach is technically one block away, although this property is toward the far end of it rather than near the main activity. We ended up ubering from state street back to the hotel. I think that if you are traveling with children, do not need many hotel amenities, or are really just looking for somewhere clean and convenient to sleep, this is a perfectly fine spot. I also should have done more research beforehand, and I cannot blame the property for amenities it never claimed to offer. Still, I do think its surprisingly glowing online reputation creates expectations that the actual experience does not truly meet. In my opinion i would describe this place as a nice, well-kept two-star inn /motel, and if that is what you are looking for, it could be a lovely choice. Many other guests were happy and that is certainly worth something.

We were upgraded to a suite which was wonderful. The room location was very quite, no noise issues. Plenty of room in the living room, bathroom and bedroom, a lot of charm. The rooms seem very clean and well equipped with a mini refrigerator Nespresso machine and robes. The only item missing oddly in the rooms are hotel luggage racks. We went up to the roof to see the pool, looked nice, it was empty due to the cooler weather temps in Santa Barbara during our stay. We did enjoy the "Wine Happy Hour" and the complementary Coffee station in the morning. There are ice machines on every floor and on the ice machine you can also get filter water for your water bottles. To note: it is a dog loving paradise at the hotel, dogs everywhere, big dogs little dogs, I love dogs so I had fun watching all of them. OK, so our only 2 criticisms are is the fee for parking per day $55... crazy! The second criticism is why can't the hotel spare space for a small gym? The hotel is affiliated with a Free 24 hour gym, "Key 2 Gym" which worked out great, BUT it's a 16 minute walk... a 1.07miles. Might not seem much, but I work out daily at 5:00AM to get it out of the way. Walking on State Street at 4:45 AM in the dark, when the only people on the street are the aggressive homeless does not make me feel safe at all. Other than those 2 items, we loved our stay!

Kimpton hotels are very pet friendly and that always gets extra stars from me. They don't charge any pet fee or have size restrictions and if you ask them, they will provide food and water bowls for your stay. As someone who always travels with her dog, that adds a lot of value for me. This location even told me that, while I couldn't bring the dog to the restaurant on site, I could bring her to the nightly wine reception. I did not ever end up attending one but it's the thought that counts. The location was great. It was about a 15-minute walk to beach and we did walk to Stearns Wharf multiple times during our stay. It typically took us about 10 minutes to walk to one of the many restaurants in the area that we had decided to go to each time. There are lots of coffee shops, wine bars and places to eat within walking distance so we ended up leaving our car parked for most of our stay. I believe the valet parking was an additional $50 or $60 a night but you do get in and out privileges. We just found that we didn't need the car much to get around on our visit and in the time it takes to have somebody pull it out for you, you could have already walked halfway to your destination. The amenities are nice. They have a rooftop pool, fitness center and then their complimentary coffee, etc. I did not end up taking advantage of any of those because I travel with my dog, so I can't speak directly to the quality of any of them, but I know most people appreciate having extras like that. Our room was cute and comfortable and felt very cozy. It was honestly probably smaller than I expected for the price point, but it had everything that we needed and I was happy with my stay. If you need a pet friendly, walkable place to stay, and you aren't on a super tight budget, I would definitely recommend looking into this hotel.

So, I booked a room and let them know we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We arrived early, so I went to see about checking in. The lady was friendly and helpful. She read my note on the reservation and congratulated me on our anniversary. First time ever, I was offered a celebratory bottle of wine, champagne, or non-alcoholic sparkling cider. I chose the apple juice which was a bottle of Martinelli's. It was probably the least expensive option, but it suited us well. Thank you for helping us celebrate our 39th Anniversary! We were assigned a room with a partial view of the harbor and full view of the swimming pool. The room was in the West Wing which is the building right across from the lobby. We paid $287.10+$40.19Tx=$327.29 for Sat. Jan 17 and $256.50+$35.91Tx=$292.41 for Sun. the 18th, totaling: $619.70 (AAA Rate) for our stay plus $32 per day to park our car. The room was spacious and lovely! We had 2 robes in the closet and the toiletries from L'Occitane were in the bathroom. There was a Keurig, Mini-Fridge, & Safe in our room. The bed was very comfortable. Oh, and there's a ceiling fan! Yay!! I liked that the room had a bathtub & sink vanity in one room with the shower & toilet separated by a pocket door. Our room had a somewhat larger balcony that included 2 chairs with a table, and one sun lounger (like the ones you lay on at the pool). The patio door to the balcony had both curtains & shutters. The room was quiet, I couldn't hear any noises from outside or other rooms. It almost didn't feel like a hotel room! We had a few hiccups which were unforeseeable. The bathtub stopper got stuck with the tub full of water. We decided we'd call the front desk in the morning. In the morning, we decided to turn the TV on, but the remote wouldn't work because the batteries died. When we informed the front desk, they said they'd send maintenance to our room. They were very helpful and apologetic. This Inn is within walking distance of Stearn's Wharf, the beach, and perhaps downtown Santa Barbara. It was a little trek walking to the State Street Promenade in Old Town S.B., but we did it! IF it's too much for you, there is a free shuttle you can take up & down State Street. At one point, we tried to wait for one and none came by, so we powered on back to our hotel by our own volition. I could have stayed a week here since it was so relaxing! I would not hesitate to book another room in the future!

We ADORED our stay in The Library Suite at The Marlowe! From top to bottom, it didn't miss a mark -…read morethe location, the cleanliness, the decor, the bedding (to die for) and the service were impeccable!! We stayed with our two young kids and the setup was perfect for families. We put the provided pack-and-play in the sunroom, which worked beautifully -- dark enough at night without blackout curtains and spacious enough that, with some white noise, we got both kiddos to bed successfully! Our son (who can get homesick while traveling) loved that you could see the beach from our street, and was thrilled that The Moxi was a literal 2-minute walk away. The location is unbeatable -- beach, harbor, restaurants, and activities all within walking distance. The suite itself is charming, spacious, cozy, and beautifully designed with thoughtful touches throughout. My husband had to work while we were in town and used the stunning library room while I ran around town with the kiddos. What surprised me most is that when I first saw The Marlowe, the first thought that came to mind was that of a romantic getaway here -- or better yet - a moms' weekend!!! The aesthetic, charm, and location feel so special and boutique. I was completely taken aback by how wonderfully family-friendly The Library Suite ended up being. It somehow managed to feel romantic, relaxing, stylish, and incredibly functional for traveling with little kids all at once. I've been doing weekend getaways in SB for nearly 15 years and have stayed in various places -- The Marlowe was hands down top notch and in my top 2 favorite places to stay!! This truly was the ideal Santa Barbara family getaway and we'll definitely be booking here again. Lovely, lovely, lovely!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with The Marlowe Inn…read more I booked this property many months in advance through Airbnb for a major life event. Unfortunately, my plans changed, and I canceled the reservation shortly after booking - still 7 months before my scheduled stay. I contacted the property several times hoping to work out a reasonable solution, but the customer service was incredibly unhelpful. I was repeatedly told they couldn't issue a refund because "their system doesn't allow it," which made very little sense to me given how far in advance I canceled. After multiple attempts, I felt like my calls were simply being ignored. I even contacted Airbnb for help, but they were unable to get the property to refund any of the money I had already paid, leaving me out **thousands of dollars** for a reservation I canceled months in advance. I understand that businesses have cancellation policies, but I expected at least some compassion and flexibility. Instead, I was met with poor communication, no empathy, and an unwillingness to work toward any reasonable solution. I would strongly encourage anyone considering booking an expensive stay here to read the cancellation policy very carefully. If your plans change unexpectedly, don't expect understanding, flexibility, or compassionate customer service or really any customer service at all...horrible experience with the Marlowe Inn.
