The massage was amazing ... no wait ... not just amazing ... it was OMG amazing!! I've been to a few spas before. My experience here was different but in a good way. The person doing the massage had strong hands, yet she had a gentle touch. She was very professional and kept me covered at all times. The only time she moved the towel was when she was going to work on a certain area, but once she was done she'd efficiently cover me up and move on to another area. I had a long and stressful work week, plus I woke up with a headache. This massage was what I needed to relax. Down Points: 1) my room was right beside the washer and dryer. So throughout my entire treatment I could hear the whir and bumping noises from the machines. 2) the walls are paper thin, so you can hear people outside talking, playing on their phones, ringtones etc 3) I could hear traffic driving past and also the skytrain whizzing past. After the massage, the facial started. For me ... 45 minutes was way too long for a facial. 20 minutes of it was laying there to let the mask dry. I felt my headache coming back just laying there. It was difficult to lay still for so long, that plus the table was completely horizontal. It would have been great to be able to elevate my upper-body. When the 45 minutes was over, sad to say, I couldn't wait to leave. My headache was back. Now comes the not so great part. There was a sales pitch at the end. When I walked out, I was asked to have a seat at the receptionist desk. I immediately saw an envelope on the desk (perfectly placed) that said, "tip for Amy" I thought this was distasteful. Then came the pressured to purchase more treatments. The lady who did my massage stood right there watching me. It was getting uncomfortable to be honest. Then I handed her a tip and she magically disappeared (I wonder if her name was Amy ...) . The receptionist still hammered at me to buy more packages. When I gave her a firm no. She said that I owe her another $5 for GST. My head was THROBBING from a new headache. I paid the $5 and left. When I got home, I read my voucher again ... it said nothing about having to pay more in taxes. Based on the massage alone I would have given a 4 star rating. After everything else that happened ... I feel a 2 star rating is being very generous.

This isn't the case with this particular location, as all that separates you between the rest of the mall is a relatively small screen.. That being said, don't let that put you off since you are left clothed (they still cover you up with a sheet). Furthermore, you can't see anyone else as you are lying face down on the massage table. Receiving a massage here is pretty fantastic. I've been to other massage clinics, and they don't do nearly as good a job as here. Having been here on several occasions over the years, I can safely say that they perform top notch massages. There has been many an occasion where I've come in with severe knots in my neck/shoulders from work or hockey, and each time I've felt relief after undergoing one of their shiatsu sessions. During each session (and you wouldn't think this to be the case) I tend to fall asleep, but there have also been moments of wincing pain where muscles have been really tight (but a good sort of pain, if that makes sense). Typically after a 40 minute session I am groggy and well relaxed. It just feels great. I brought my mother here who suffers from an extremely tense neck and shoulder muscles as a result of work-related injuries due to repetitive motions (she was skeptical about this place) and she is now hooked because they were able to really work out some of the tension in her muscles. Another plus is that the therapists really put effort into their craft and always act professionally. You can go at any time during the day and receive a massage and be well assured that it would be just as good if you were the first customer, or the last customer. This is quite a contrast to some other places I've been in terms of a consistently good massage. The only downside to Japan Shiatsu Clinic is that many medical plans do not seem to cover this type of massage. However, for my money, this place and the therapists that work here are top notch.
