Drexel Investments, his real estate construction and leasing firm, is based in Fort Lauderdale. Through the years he was a partner in the Buffalo Braves and involved in thoroughbred horse racing, In 1999 he established a philanthropic foundation which provided the funds for the playground equipment in the park. I must have passed this cute little park hundreds of times. I finally spotted it one day on Waze while driving past. Mangurian Park is a small 4 acre park set back from Federal Highway behind a Fresh Market. It looks like it was carved out a piece of the surrounding Enclave Coral Ridge Country Club. Park amenities include a restroom, bicycle rack, water fountain, fitness equipment, benches, playground, and a paved walking path. It looks like a lot of new trees had been added to the park to accompany the native plants. This is a really clean, well manicured park. Grab a prepared meal from the Fresh Market and have a picnic al fresco.

This was a charitable event to support Kids In Distress (KID) and Family Central (FCI), serving more than 20,000 children and families each year across South Florida. There were food trucks, live Dj, fun zone for the kids, face painting and kid Olympics. You're able to adopt a duck for $5. Each adoption goes towards helping a child in need. A duck race was held where all adopted ducks were let loose in the river to race. The winner of the race wins $10,000. This was such a fun thing to do with the kids. Centrally-located near trendy Las Olas Boulevard and the famous Intracoastal Waterway, Victoria Park has long been one of the city's most prestigious communities. Indeed, it attracted the attention of none other than Julia Tuttle, the American businesswoman credited as the "Mother of Miami." Partnering with railroad magnate Henry Flagler, she convinced him to extend his railway down to South Florida, thereby allowing the region to grow and develop. Fort Lauderdale was one of the many cities that benefited from the economically vital Florida East Coast Railway, which ran right through it, albeit with an auspicious curve to the west of what is now Victoria Park. This is no accident - at the turn of the 20th century, Julia Tuttle explicitly denied Flagler the right of way through what is now Victoria Park, having recognized it as one of the most beautiful and pristine areas in South Florida. This is such a peaceful place where you can sit along the water and listen to birds while canoers and kayakers paddle though the waterway. There are also basketball courts and and a fitness trail for the more athletic and a bicycle rental rack if you want to peddle through the beautiful neighborhoods. Parking is plentiful and there is also bathroom facilities on the property. Safety is also monitored by a park ranger who drives a pickup truck.

City Park is a brand new park in Oakland Park that opened in the summer of 2022. It is located just…read moresouth of Wimberly Field in the industrial warehouse district of Oakland Park. City Park was created with a $40 million bond referendum that was voted on in 2018 by Oakland Park residents. City Park has a number of great amenities that are attractive to families. These include a new splash pad, woodland themed covered playground, basketball courts, renovated pickleball courts, and a concession stand. Visitors to the park can enjoy new family restrooms, a shaded seating area, batting cages, lighting and native Florida landscaping. The park also includes the Collin Community Center. The brown, green, and beige colors chosen for the splash pad will be seen citywide in upcoming projects. The park benches and trash cans are also part of a new design that will be seen throughout the wide. City Park is phase 1 of the bond referendum and the second bond project will be new North Andrews Community Center. Other projects to enhance the city will be built as part of the ten-year plan to update the City's public facilities for its Second Century. In the meantime families can benefit from the new recreational facilities at City Park.

There is the two restored Kester Cottages that were moved to the park in the 1980's, a 1926 firehouse that contains the cities first fire truck, a 1926 American LaFrance and a 1948 American LaFrance, and Pump House No. 1, also from 1926. Other park amenities include tennis courts, a playground, and a shuffleboard court. On September 11, 2019, a 9/11 memorial was dedicated at the park. Founders Park was chosen for the memorial because it contains the cities first fire house and the memorial pays tribute to the 343 first responders killed on 9/11. The Pompano Beach Historical Society launches a lot of events from this park. They hold dinners in their building, operate historical trolley tours that leave from the park, and give tours of the Kester cottages. Besides the historical value, this is a great park to play tennis. It is nice to see Pompano working so hard to embrace their past.

The Smoker Family Park, is located on the south bank of the New River in Fort Lauderdale, Florida just east of SE 5th Ave. The park was officially designated as Smoker Family Park in 2009. The park was named in honor of Stanford Smoker, a longtime resident of the city who was instrumental in saving grand oak trees and historic homes in the city.
