We got empanadas at Union Market and they were indeed A-OK. I got the chicken one and it tasted like a personal chicken pot pie. My fiancé's had andouille sausage in it. Both were warm and tasted nice. They're a little small and they're definitely fried. I wouldn't necessarily send friends to this booth, but if we were passing it I would happily get more! read more

Tried them out when they had the big food truck gathering in the summer. I was able to get a Taj Mahal and potato/chorizo and they were great. A nice new spin on empanadas by filling them with unique and nontraditional flavors. I really enjoyed the Taj Mahal filled with chicken tikka masala. read more

Since my original review I decided to give DC Empanadas another chance, and I'm glad I did. The Irie Mon was a great flavor combo, and I also enjoyed El Greco. They were nowhere near as greasy as I experienced the first time around. Not sure if they improved the recipe over the months or if I caught them on an off-day, but I will more than likely be back for more. read more

I often visit DC Empanadas stand at Union Market. The empanadas are always freshly fried and tasty. Don't miss the green sauce- I have no idea what is in it but it makes any empanada better. My favorites are The Badass (buffalo chicken) and the Speedy Gonzalez (my friend and I refer to this one as being filled with liquid cheese gold...). An empanada for $4 or 3 empanadas for $10. Obviously I got 3! They had 3 different kinds on the day I went, the beef Ropanada, the chipotle chicken, and the veggie el greco. We had a work event in Pentagon City and DC Empanadas was one of the trucks to come. When I see Fish Taco's on a menu, I'm automatically drawn to them and they're in the running for my order. When I saw an example of these I knew they'd be good. I was right. The chipotle flavor is on point, a bit of spice but not overwhelming. The jicama really adds a nice flavor and the crema for the slaw really enhanced the flavor of the whole thing. They also used Corn tortillas which I do prefer for my fish taco's Great lunch, I would not hesitate to try other offerings in the future if I see them around! read more

We decided to try DC Empanadas during Truckeroo. We waited in line for probably 15 minutes...the line was crazy long so we figured it must be good. Well, they were just ok. They are way overpriced for what you get but that seems to be the theme of DC food trucks. I had the Badass (buffalo chicken), and the Speedy Gonzalez (cheese). The Speedy was boring and tasted like grease, not cheese. The Badass was so so but really it too was just not interesting. I couldn't even find any blue cheese in it. My husband got the Divine Swine and it actually was pretty tasty. I don't even remember the other 2 he got. They weren't memorable. It just isn't a win for the size and price. read more

My favorite is Speedy Gonzalez - 3 cheese which doesn't sound that exciting but it's soooo good. Mamma Sophia and El Greco are good too. Truck is run by really sweet couple. I got the Tio Shawn, which I have tried before, it was good. I also got the El Toro, which was practically burnt and the beef was, for lack of a better word, meh (might have been old?) Spring is here and with the dawn of warmer weather comes the swarm of food trucks to downtown Washington. DC Empanadas was my first food truck experience and despite an error with the truck's credit card machine which left me (and those behind me) waiting an extra five minutes or so, I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with the fare. The truck offers three varieties and a daily special and a great deal of 3 empanadas for $9. Canned sodas are $1 apiece which brings you to the $10 minimum for credit cards. Today the options were buffalo chicken (messy and spicy), pulled pork (somewhat forgettable), and a cajun chorizo blend with rice and spices (mind-blowing). There are a few sites that allow you to follow the food trucks and their daily locations and I've found foodtruckfiesta.com to be the best. If DC Empanadas comes your way, it is definitely worth a try. read more

Tried empanadas at truckeroo, we got a combination of two. One was just several different kind of cheeses, I was expecting something a little more exciting but it was literally just cheese fried in bread but the other spicy chicken one (cannot remember the name, maybe Bad Ass?) was really good, the chicken was cooked perfectly, just enough hot sauce with nice melted cheese. When I see this food truck again I will definitely try out some of the other options! read more

We at L'Enfant love our food trucks, and the line that forms at DC Empanadas is a pretty good indication that it's really, really good. Last Thursday I waited for 30 minutes in the cold. A woman in front of me asked someone to hold her place while she went to buy gloves so she could continue waiting! My favorite so far was the greek one with spinach and feta. I did not expect such a rich and creamy filling. An unexpected treat was the Jersey Shore, with handmade miniature meatballs. The Divine Swine had more sauce than I expected but was still pretty good. I have been told by people in line that the cookies are excellent but I would rather fill up on beautifully cooked empanadas! read more

There is no better empanada in the DMV then this one! The crust is crispy and never greasy and the fillings are always juicy and flavorful. There line moves fast and the people inside the truck are super friendly. I just wish they would stop by my office everyday. read more

On two different occasions I tried DC Empanadas. I had the pork, thai, and meatball empanadas. Both times they were fresh out of the fryer and cooked perfectly. I actually had to let them cool down before I could eat them. I was impressed by the quality of the ingredients, especially the vegetables in the thai empanada. I also didn't anticipate that such flavor combinations could work so well in empanada form, they really were great. These were much more interesting than the typical empanadas that I've had in DC. Sure, I had to wait in line... but that's only because a million other people were also hankering for their food. Next time, I'll check their twitter feed to see where they're headed to beat the crowd. I only wish my diet would permit me to eat these all the time! read more

Not very flavorful and they come out so piping hot you have to wait a good ten minutes before you eat. The cheese in the speedy Gonzales was super goey and most of the cheese stuck along the perimeter inside the empanada making for a hollow empanada (no bueno). The service is good and friendly, so I will add a star for that. Definitely not worth the price though. read more

DC Empanadas is fantastic. We hired them to cater our wedding and they did a great job. The empanadas are delicious - super crispy exterior and tasty fillings from a wide range of cuisines. The traditional, the divine swine, and the el greco were all great. Many guests raved to us about how good the empanadas were. DC Empanadas was a real pleasure to work with and was much more affordable and more delicious than traditional wedding catering. They served a lot of people very quickly, brought lots of extra food and were happy to hang around until all the guests had eaten as many times as they wanted. I'm so glad we hired them! read more

This food truck is great and will totally fill your craving for empanadas - if you have one. They have a few different selections to choose from every day and you can get 3 for $10. I chose to do two and the special soup which was Mexican tortilla and I am sooo glad I did. I am still craving that soup. It was spicy and flavorful with actual tortillas in it to thicken the soup. I need more of that. The empanadas were also good. Unique fillings. I got the one shredded beef and one chicken. Both very good. I was just at the Vintage Virginia Wine Fest. There were a good amount of food trucks, but I decided that empanadas were the way to go. Before I ordered, I noticed that the person in front of me was asking about personal preferences from the guy taking the orders. He pretty much yelled at her for asking him such questions. I thought that was weird bc there were some unique ingredients in the empanadas. My husband and I tried the El Greco and Cubanito (I think). They were ok, but definitely turned off bc of how rude the guy was taking our order. read more
