There was some confusion, however the lady in charge took very good care of us when we made it back. The boat ride was about 2 hours out to find the whales. Our kiddos got sick, but the crew on the boat helped out as much as possible. The other tourist on board with us were also very kind and understanding. The divers stayed with us and guided us while we were in the ocean. They made sure everyone was able to see and experience the whales up close. Whale sharks are not to be confused with sharks FYI! After we swam with the whales the captain took us to explore some reefs, then to isla mujares, which was my favorite place to visit. They made fresh ceviche while we swam off the shores. If you are in cancun while the whale sharks are in season then I highly recommend you take the opportunity.

You just snorkel and swim and just watch the sharks. We saw multiple sharks and watched them eat and even smaller fish feeding off them. All seven people in our party loved the experience. They did a great job trying to find the Whale sharks, we got skunked. I knew the possibility was low this time of year but gave it a shot. No let's get to the logistics of the trip. First we were supposed to be picked up in Plays del Carmen at 7:30 7:45. Had to get up at 6:00 (again I knew all of this) they showed up around 8:20 and the driver drove 120-130 KPH. Sketchy, the van Is at least 10 years old packed with 10 people and he was weaving in and out u ok Durazo e so much. It just was very unsafe. The next issue is the trip is $200 per person (again no issue) when the final charges were done it was $246 per person plus the $10 charge for the eco fee. All of this would not have mattered probably if we had seen a whale shark. I would not suggest this for families it is very rough open ocean. If you get motion sickness at all make sure you take medication 2 of the 10 got sick. Overall I would not suggest doing this excursion unless you are actually staying in the Can Cun area and after June 1.

Booking process- We walked in - in person - to book the excursion. The employee was very friendly and professional. She explained everything throughly. My only gripe is they charge a 10 percent service charge to pay with a card. When the excursion is expensive - with a group - that charge can add up quickly. We were quoted $30-$35 USD cheaper all over the island. Based on a recommendation, we booked anyway - after walking to find an ATM - this was inconvenient. The excursion- The captain and guide were amazing. They took us out to swim with the whale sharks and we hit the jackpot. We also swam with mantas - which was awesome. On the way back, the captain made pitstop so the group could do a little snorkeling. Everyone loved it. Again, my only gripe was the service charge - if that wasn't there - or if it was around 3 percent - I would give a 5.

I signed up for the refresher course, which was right before the dive, so it only added an hour and a half to the total time. Marie, my instructor, was AWESOME. She walked me through everything and was incredibly patient. Her positive energy was infectious. I was pretty stressed out during the start of the first dive, and she knew exactly how to chill me out. By the second dive it felt like old hand. Also... the museum and reef were super cool, too :) Highly recommended.

The zip tie that should have secured the mouthpiece to my regulator was missing, causing the mouthpiece to detach at 20-30 feet underwater. Fortunately, the dive master was nearby and offered their octopus regulator, but shockingly, the same issue occurred--no zip tie, leading to another failure. This turned the dive into a dangerous, life-or-death situation. To make matters worse, the boat was in terrible condition, which only added to the discomfort and sense of unease throughout the experience. While I'm grateful for the dive master's quick response, I cannot recommend this dive shop to any diver. Equipment safety and proper maintenance should be the top priority, and sadly, that wasn't the case here.

We were able to dive together with a private instructor on 2 days and one day we shared an instructor with another group. Eduardo was very nice to book the trip with, the driver picked us up on time from the hotel, very friendly and delivered us back after the dives. Everything went smoothly on the dives and one day one of the areas was closed so we could not dive it and Eduardo refunded us a fair portion of that tour for the day immediately, with no hassle. This is a great company, honest and trustworthy. They have top dive masters and instructors that will take good care of you and keep things safe. Next time we visit Cancun & Cozumel we will book with them again. Thanks Eduardo! If you are a first time diver like me, to give you some info of what it is like...you get private training at a beautiful private yacht club pool for 30 min or so (or until you are comfortable I guess) before you go on your Cancun or MUSA dives. It was great to be trained privately at my own pace and I really felt comfortable here during the training. They supply literally everything other than a towel. Highly recommend the Cozumel dive experience, it's a must! The driver also picks you up in a very nice and spacious van, clean and new, drives us to the area we dive and waits for us until we're done. The same driver will drive you home at night. In the case of diving Cozumel from Cancun, the driver drove us 1.5 hours to Playa Del Carmen, then waited there 6 hours for us to drive us back to Cancun. It felt like VIP service and we loved it!

The location to start the tour was great. Captain and divers…read morewere nice, and some were better than others, and we interacted with many because.. well... read below. So- the company seems to not really put an emphasis on taking care of their boats. We bought a private tour. They put us on a janky boat with no sun-shade in the front. It was clear to us 20 minutes in that one motor was failing, but they kept pushing, slapping waves and sputtering until we finally stopped. Other boats "to the rescue"- only by bringing oil- and so much oil. They poured it into the broken motor (not a real fix, just pouring oil into the ocean). We eventually got into the area with the beautiful fish, and were rushed into the water (being several hours late). Noa dove with us, and he was great. He filmed us, helped people that were having difficulty getting used to the experience. After the swim- we were put onto 2 separate boats, (having to jump from one boat to another- seas weren't calm by the way), cramming in with other passengers. Both of these boats DID have ample shades up, and DID have working motors! But there was no communication, and the captain of one boat gave us misinformation. Finally, our split-up group reconvened and enjoyed Playa Norte. We were finally put on a new boat, which also seemed in better condition and had a sunshade. What an adventure. The last crew that was very helpful were Alberto and Guillermo (Billy). Our first crew included Noa, who was helpful in the water. (Although he did transfer the GoPro photos we paid for while on the boat, but my phone later broke and we requested an email with the transfer and that never came). All and all a mixed experience- many highlights, and we did meet our planned goal, to swim with these majestical creatures. I don't think I would go back with this company, or if I did, have some serious concern about the boat maintenance and back up plan.

Since we did the private tour, we were picked up early at our hotel. The driver was right on time at 7 am and the van was nice with good air conditioning. We were offered fruit and juice at the dock. We were given safety information and given clear instructions on also keeping the whale sharks safe. The boat was clean and well equipped. It had 2 engines and shade. We got Irving and Martin as our guides. The boat ride started out smoothly, but then got choppy and rough. Don't take anyone with back problems or any high maintenance people who need constant comfort. When the whale sharks were spotted, there were only one or two other boats in the area. We quickly got started getting two people in the water. Everyone in my group got to have an amazing experience. The boat moved a few times to follow the whale sharks. Within an hour, the place was crowded with boats. We decided to head back to Isla Mujeres since the experience was not as enjoyable with all of the crowd. Even as we were heading back, our guides spotted another whale shark. So we stopped and one more group of two got to go again. Then we headed back for lunch at the island. We anchored the boat and had a swim in the beautiful clear blue water while our guides prepared sandwiches and a delicious shrimp ceviche salad. At about 1 pm we went back to the dock. We got to see the GoPro footage that was taken (which of course we wanted). We paid $20 per person to have photos and videos airdropped and were driven back to our hotel. The private tour is the only way to go. Getting to the whale sharks early is crucial. Put a large group together and contact Captain Whale Shark.

Then it turns out he's not done shopping for your groceries, so he'll be another 30 minutes (45) and he's not actually shopping, Saul is, and then it turns out it's his wife Tania who is shopping, and then it's SAUL WHO SHOWS UP to "fix" your problem. But then you circle back and get an email from Emily (all the same email) and "she" says she doesn't know Saul and he's not on staff. Tania, meanwhile, pulled this: Pork chops :: requested 1 and got 3 Sliced provolone :: I got smoked provolone. I cannot eat smoked cheeses. Fresh green beans :: I got peas. Activia yogurt :: yogurt drink and yogurt are not the same thing Cornstarch :: cornstarch and cornmeal are not the same thing Morrell snowcap lard :: is for baking biscuits. The tan pig fat I got won't work. Fritos plain original chips :: not the same as chorizo chipotle chips. Triscuit crackers :: Crackets are like Ritz crackers, not like Triscuit. Anaheim chiles :: not even close to poblanos. 1 doz. tortillas is not 3 doz. tortillas. Saul's response: "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and frustration you experienced with your recent order. Our shopper, Tania, always strives to fulfill the items on the list accurately, and when certain items are unavailable, she attempts to find suitable substitutes." She went to 3 stores and figured fresh peas and beans are the same, and cornstarch = cornmeal. The tour with Xantel is probably very good. Do not have these scammers buy groceries for you.

Booking the food tour was a breeze and you are provided email confirmations and instructions, even…read moreif you book it through trip advisor. You are required to reconfirm your tour a few days prior with the owner Emily, but she is responsive and confirms your tour! We learned from our guide Xantal (pronounced SH-ANTAL) that Emily owns the business but works from Cozumel where she runs the business and other ventures; she actually was the one that started doing her tours personally after guests to her and her husband's inquired about where was the best local cuisine in Playa del Carmen. Thus, the business was born! Xantal met us at the corner of Benito Juarez Ave and la Quinta Ave. We stood in front of the white stoned church on the corner, directly across from a souvenir store as instructed in the email. Xantal greeted us promptly and introduced herself and gave us free water! We then walked a few blocks to the first stop, a street taco stand! We had the best tacos here ever, made from Cochinita Pibil. We learned the making of this meat takes hours and overnight preparation through underground heating. This was honestly the best tacos we had the entire week we stayed in Mexico! The next stop was a quesadilla stop, which you had the option to put your choice of vegetables and meat. The drink is also included here! The taxi ride is also taken care of by the tour. The next stop is at a local market where Xantal showed us various herbs and local ingredients along with their historic value to local cuisine and the Mexican people. You have the option here to buy some of these items if you wish! Right next door is the next stop where we have posole (soup). This soup is so tasty and is a classic dish with mayan roots. We learned that there are 3 variouations, a white base, a red base (which you will have here), and a green base (all colors of the Mexican flag). The next stop is another tacos stop which specializes in carnitas and is also very delicious. The drink is included and the taxi ride is also covered by the tour. The last stop is an ice cream shop, which had homemade flavors with fresh fruit and cream with a variety of flavors and your basic favorites from back home too! We then walked back to the church and ended the tour! Xantal through the entire experience was very informative, hospitable, and relatable! She did her best effort to make us feel welcomed and made the tour about us! We got lucky we were the only ones scheduled that day for the tour, so it was a private tour! I would recommend if you have dairy restrictions to bring some lactaid pills with you. Overall, well worth it, especially to avoid the touristy food that might mistake you to be local!
