Last week I hired DC Top Choice Movers to assist me in moving my home from Alexandria to Capitol Heights, MD. I can't say enough about how impressed I was with the service. I called Robin less than a week before I needed assistance and he was extremely professional and more than willing to help. I gave him a quick inventory of my large items and he gave me a recommendation/estimate on the number of movers and time it would take. The night before the move, Joe called to confirm the details. The next morning the movers showed up about 5 minutes early and they were ready to work. The movers were Joe, Paul, Travis and Micha. It has been a very long time since I've seen a group of guys so positive, professional and efficient. They packed my entire town home in less than 3 hours without taking a single break. They didn't even eat the donuts I bought until they finished loading. Once we got to the new house, they unloaded everything in less than 3 hours. I moved into a new build home, so I was very particular about the condition of the home. There was one VERY small scuff on a stair well wall and that was it!!! I have very heavy, solid wood furniture that was imported from Europe. These guys moved that stuff like it was a walk in the park. Once they were finished, I paid the exact amount I was quoted for. STAY FAR, FAR AWAY!!! I scheduled a last minute move with this company and was glad to see they could fit me into their schedule. I did not realize they were only labor and I had to secure my own moving truck. When I told them I did not see this mentioned in their ad, the primary contact, a male named Robin, sent me 14 text messages explaining that they were only labor, and said I accused him of lying just because I asked about the ad. IMMEDIATELY, I knew something was wrong with him. I told him I reserved a truck and tried to get him to calm down, but he continued to send text after text, and email after email. Then him and his colleague canceled the job and told me that I canceled so I could not have a refund. I called the brokering service and they refunded my money, but the texts and emails kept coming from Robin, this time accusing me of threatening to do harm to him and his family! I HAD TO CALL THE LOCAL POLICE. I asked him to stop contacting me and told him I called the police and HE STILL KEPT TEXTING AND EMAILING. This guy is mentally ill. I would honestly give them six stars if I could! With all the difficulties and frustrations that usually come along with any moving process, DCTCM made it easy. Here was my experience: This is a long review, but it is really worth noting all the areas in which DCTCM went way above and beyond! (If you can't read it all the way through, at the very least read the bottom) I needed movers to help me unload my U-Haul at my new apartment and return it to a U-Haul facility- all in DC. I found DC Top Choice Movers through U-Haul Moving Helpers, saw they they had good reviews and took a shot. I immediately received an e-mail from Robin, who let me know when and how he could be reached so that we could keep in touch before the move. Given that I am working throughout the day, e-mailing back and forth was perfect for me. I felt completely confident that my job was given proper attention, and that if I had any questions or reservations, I could easily contact Robin and get a speedy response. My plans had changed several times just days before the move - including the day before. Robin quickly adjusted his schedule to accommodate. We realized right before the move that though I thought I informed him of my most recent plan, I completely messed up and forgot to send out the e-mail. I was already starting to look up new companies to potentially use in DC since I was convinced that as a customer, I was already too much trouble than the job was worth. Instead of being angry and frustrated (as he had every right to be- [and if he was - he did not allow it to be put on me]) Robin called me and we discussed a revised plan - basically whatever I needed, he made it happen. For someone who was moving alone for the first time to a new city - this was a relief to say the least. It does not end there - the U-Haul driver and I, driving separately from NYC were both hours late to our appointment in DC. Again - I was completely convinced that this job was definitely more trouble than it was worth. The DCTCM who were going to unload my U-Haul and return it contacted me to sort out the scheduling problems, and here too - where they should have really been quite annoyed, the movers were totally upbeat and positive - something I really needed at that point. One mover helped me flag down my U-Haul that finally arrived. They were completely prepared to unload - and really fast at that. I had several paintings and other delicate items in the U-Haul, and the movers were really very careful in transporting them. When I walked in to speak with the management of the apartment building, he mentioned that he saw them waiting for me for HOURS, and that they were very polite and respectful to the management of the building! After everything was finished (really fast - especially compared to my experience in NYC), I had the movers return the U-Haul for me. Now, if all this was not enough - I sent them to the wrong U-Haul place. After all I put these guys and their manager through I could not believe I did that. Though without missing a beat, the movers worked it out for me and returned it to that U-Haul facility. Bottom Line: I could not have asked for a more helpful, positive, professional, and patient moving company. Every part of the move that DCTCM was involved in was just so much less stressful than it could have been. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and I would ABSOLUTELY recommend them! Robin from DC Top Choice Movers - thank you for upsetting me enough to give me the motivation to write my first review on Yelp! Heed my warning, folks. I have moved several times, and Robin was by far the worst, most rude mover I've had to deal with. I had originally selected this company because of it's stellar ratings on movinghelp.com... little did I know that people often get paid/reimbursed to post reviews on movinghelp! I had called to check availability on Monday, for a move taking place that following weekend. Robin told me it was no problem, that they could take me that Sunday. Ok great, move scheduled. Deposit made via Paypal, which was convenient. Come moving day... without notice, the crew showed up 2 hours early (no problem, but some notice would have been appreciated). Most movers I have dealt with usually put runners on the floor for protection, but none with these guys. Again, no problem. The 2-man crew moved quickly to get the truck loaded. Upon leaving the pick-up location, the driver ran over and demolished a spotlight/lamp installed in our yard. After arriving at the delivery location, the first thing off the truck was my treadmill. Yes, an awkward, heavy item that can be difficult to get around corners. After a lot of struggle, I told these guys they can put the treadmill elsewhere, but they insisted they could get it into the basement. Well, they got it there but with scratches on the machine, dents/gouges in my walls... and also cutting a pipe on a dehumidifier installed by insurance company due to a leak. Now I have a dinged up treadmill, dented walls, AND water spurting onto my basement floor! Swell. By the end of the move, I was appreciative but very annoyed at all the excessive dings, gouges, dents on my walls, the spotlight that I have to replace at the old house, and the humidifier hose I now have to replace for my insurance company. The crew and Robin all said they would take care of the damages. So I sent the two guys off without tipping them because of their carelessness. The very next morning, before I Paypal-ed the remainder of my payment, I sent Robin an email confirming my amount due and also asking him how we would settle the damages. I get THREE emails back from him within 1.5 hours and without any resolution to the issues: 1. First message telling me the driver never saw any spotlight (damaged or undamaged) in the yard, and that the second guy was actually on the ground, guiding the driver when we were leaving. BULL. Also telling me that I "saved money" on the move by not tipping the guys. That was quite appalling! And, finally, that I owed him more than he originally quoted me. 2. Second email said that the move took 5 hrs 10 min... not sure how that worked out when they arrived after 2:00 PM and ended at 7:03 PM. Maybe I need to go back to elementary school to learn time. He also said they are making next-to-nothing on my job because I didn't tip. Mind you, I never once haggled with him on the price he originally quoted me. I was happy to pay the full $445 for a Sunday move - just like it says on their website. 3. Third email asking me to pay because they are in "desperate need of cash flow". Thank goodness I never have to deal with these unprofessional, dishonest people again. STAY AWAY! read more

I used their services yesterday to move out of my apartment. My appointment was at 9:30, they were calling me at 9:28 to say they were outside and ready to work. This is the absolute worst place I have ever dealt with. I call and set up for them to arrive at 10 AM to Fort Belvoir (given the name, that's a military installation). -10:30 rolls around, still not there, 11 am- I call the number and the manager says they have been trying to call but the number is disconnected, clearly it's not because I'm calling you. They were in an accident and it will be another 25 minutes, okay fine. -12:30 pm rolls around, no call, nothing, so I call. I'm sorry they were turned away at the gate because they did not have their ID (who doesn't keep an ID on them). At this point I'm pissed! The manager doesn't understand why I didn't inform him he would need an ID to get on a military instillation. He never planned on calling to let me know they couldn't get on. So I asked when do they plan on coming back, "well not today, because the drive to get his ID and back will be too late", I flip out. In a nut shell I was paying $595 to have my items loaded, unloaded and arranged. He apologized and offer for me to go rent a uhual and he could provide 2 helpers in about an hour and a half, for 2 hours of help for $365. You're joking right? All in all he blamed me for not explaining he would be coming on a military instillation and they would need ID. We live in DC, there are military installations every 10 miles and given the name it was a military instillation. Poor communication and offered no way of helping. I wouldn't waste your time with this company. In response to the owner: yes you have called to try and get us to change our review on your business and I get that, but as stressful as moving already is, I shouldn't have to get the run around when it comes to this. Nothing I wrote in my review was false. I also don't appreciate you making it seem like a big deal that I didn't reiterate the guys coming needed their ids, we live in DC the name has Fort (meaning military in it). When they were turned away at the gate they still didn't even call to let us know, as my husband sat and waited. I had to call you to find that out, remember that? Which I didn't even previously mention above. Also, if after all of this and you wanted to "help" us out by telling us to go get our own uhaul truck, you should have offered your guys to come to us at a substantially cheaper rate after giving us a 10:30 am arrival time and by 1:30 me calling to find out they were turned away for not having their ids and not to mention the 10 phone calls in between and saying their estimated arrival time was 25 minutes. But no you still wanted us to go get our own uhaul and pay for your helpers that wouldn't be there for another 1.5. You being the manager or owner should have just stepped in and taken matters into your own hands and got the job done. My review or stars won't change. read more

Couldn't be more pleased with the service we received. Would give more than 5 stars if that was an option. Brought a 20 ft Uhaul from Atlanta to Alexandria. The communications prior to the move with Robin were great. Answered quickly and kept us informed as to the time within the window we requested. Rami and Rudy showed up on time and after looking at what we had in the truck and then the apartment told me to relax and proceeded to start unloading the truck. Even though I had booked a two hour slot to unload the furniture and heavy items, plus any of the boxes that would fit in the appointment, they unloaded everything within the two hours, and placed it in the right rooms. They also removed all the pads, folded them, and placed them back in the truck. They were very careful with our items, professional, efficient, and great to work with. DC Top Choice Movers did a fantastic job with my complex move from Alexandria and Arlington to Washington DC. My move was a little more complicated than your average move. The movers had to meet me at one location in Alexandria to pick up a couch and then travel to another destination in Arlington to pick up my remaining belongings. It was also more complicated than the typical move because both my belongings and the belongings of another person were located in the same room, so the movers had to pay attention to which things to grab and which things to leave behind. Other things that I appreciated about DC Top Choice Movers include their transparancy. They were great about calling me in advance and letting know when they were arriving in Alexandria. In addition, they showed up EARLIER than scheduled and got my move under way. The movers were extremely courteous and efficient. They thought through how to move my couch before the handled it, and they worked as a team to get my belongings out of the apartment in Arlington in about 30 minutes. The worst movers company ever!!! If I can give a zero star, I would. Do not use this company unless you don't mind being exploited by Robin. I had hired two movers, but one did not show up, which forced us to delay the completion of the move that cost me more money. When I complained to Robin, I received a lecture about how it is not his responsibility, how little money he was making, how difficult it is to hire good movers, and how unreasonable it is for me to expect the movers to come on time. We had an excellent experience with these movers at the end of August 2018, and would wholeheartedly recommend them to any friend who is moving. We rented a Uhaul van and all we needed was someone to help carry and pack the furniture. This was the perfect (and very affordable) solution. We were doing a somewhat complicated move between three different apartments in the Dupont Circle area of DC, and Robin accommodated our multiple stops with no problem. Our movers, Paul and Mike, communicated with me in advance, arrived on time, brought their own dolly and tools (amazing!) and were incredibly helpful and friendly. We even had one super heavy piece to move (a granite table), which they were able to move with no problem. When one item didn't quite fit into the Uhaul van, Paul put it on top of his own personal car -- so nice. All of this done in 3 hours time, with nothing broken or scratched. This was a terrible move. I had the move set up for a Thursday at 9 until noon. The price was set and the deposit was paid. They didn't show up. I called and was told to text to get a better response. Once I finally heard back from them, they said that one of the guys had been in an accident the day before. So what happened to getting a replacement and notifying me. They showed up at 4 pm because The freight elevator was not available at noon when they Saud they could finally be there. DC Top Choice Movers packed a truck I had rented for an 1800 mile move west to New Mexico. I had vastly underestimated how much time it would take to load the truck, but the loaders stayed until the job was done. They did a great job and even when my truck broke down and had to be towed the remaining 500 miles of the trip through remote canyons and roads, not a single thing broke. This company caused a significant amount of damage to my stairs, bannisters and pillars and was unwilling to pay anything beyond the moving fee to help cover the damages. Instead I was actually asked if I had a "religion I could pray to" and called "a bad human being" because they said the damage was inevitable. So I chose DC Top Choice based on the reviews I read on Yelp and Movinghelp.com. I was a little nervous, skeptical even, because some reviews for different companies weren't the best on movinghelp.com and I was worried what I was signing up for. But, this company DID NOT disappoint and has some of the BEST reviews. Robin, the owner was so great! I had a last minute change to my moving date and they didn't even blink an eye when I asked to push my move to the next day. My movers were Joseph and Eddie. They showed up right on time and after a short walk-through of my apartment got right to work. They worked non-stop, except for the ride over to my new unit...lol. They jumped out of the car and got right back to work. They carried box after box, item after item up two flights of stairs, WITH NO BREAKS! Absolutly amazing!!!! They finished within the time that was quoted and I couldn't be happier. Just be forewarned, it can be kind of difficult to communicate via phone. I know when I first thought about booking the company, I made a lot of phone calls and even left a few messages. I decided to email them instead and this worked just fine. They can answer any and all questions via email and are prompt with their responses. The owner Robin answered all my pesky questions regarding truck size, number of furniture pads needed and more. Just a reminder, if you want the job to be done quickly and efficiently, you have to be sure all your boxes, bins and items are ready to be moved BEFORE they get there.
