I met some friends at DD Peckers for a fun night of storytelling, laughter, drinks, and wings. It was a seven-stars-out-of-five experience. Out of the four of us, I was the only one who hadn't been here before. It's a long-standing, no-frills wing shack/sports-bar hybrid in south Charlotte that's built a loyal following around one thing: serious wings. There are other things on the menu--but unless you want an appetizer or something alongside your wings, ignore them--the wings are the main event. Their website claims 25 flavors, and if you order more than one set of five, you can sample more than one. I went with ten wings: mild Buffalo and lemon pepper. Everyone recommended the lemon pepper wings. These are not a dry rub; they're a wet, glossy toss--and they are OUTSTANDING. I'm hooked. The Buffalo wings were on par with the best versions of the classic style. They provide celery sticks with blue cheese or ranch dressing--I chose blue cheese--and it was a great accompaniment. We also had their Spicy Onion Rings as an appetizer before we ordered the wings. The onion itself brings natural sweetness and mild sharpness (especially when hot), while the batter/coating is where the personality lives: savory, slightly salty, and well-seasoned. DD Peckers' spicy onion rings are essentially a classic crispy onion ring elevated with a peppery seasoning--where the heat enhances the onion's natural sweetness rather than overpowering it. They have a great selection of craft beers and ciders and offer a full bar. Most of us had Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Copper, a local Charlotte beer. I had two bottles of Bold Rock Hard Apple Cider, which paired well with both the onion rings and the wings, along with a glass of Olde Mecklenburg Copper in between. Our waitress was attentive, fun, and efficient. She kept everything moving seamlessly, and all of our needs were met exceptionally. We all tipped her well. The food and drink here are quite a bargain--especially considering how iconic this restaurant is and how delicious their wings are. Stopped by DD Peckers Wing Shack with my kids to try a new chicken spot and see if it might make our family's regular rotation. We ordered the chicken tenders and fries and though nothing about the meal was bad, but nothing really stood out either. The tenders were decent and the fries were fine, just fairly average across the board. It was one of those meals where everything was perfectly edible, but nothing memorable enough to make you crave coming back. With so many solid chicken options around Charlotte, I'd probably lean toward places like Poppycox or even Chick-fil-A next time if we're in the mood for tenders and fries. DD Peckers has a good reputation for wings and a big variety of sauces, so that may be where the real draw is. Solid wings, what I liked is that they have much less chewy skin than others ones in the area. The sauces are superb, hot ranch and hot gold, which are deliciously creamy. I'm mainly rating the wings since the place is not necessarily fancy, more of a dive/sports bar with run down sitting. Plus the fries (without the seasoning) are noticeably plain. SO let's get straight to it... when me and my guest visited DD Peckers for the first time we were not greeted by staff when we first walked in. I was not a fan of that at all. We stood in the middle of store for a few minutes because we were unsure if we go to the bar to order, wait to be seated, or seat yourself. All of this confusion could have been addressed if someone greeted us and provided information on what to do next. My guest ended up having to ask the staff what we were supposed to do because our presence was never acknowledged. Anyway, we finally sit down and I noticed one of my biggest pet peeves at a restaurant...sticky floors. To me, cleanliness is a HUGE deal and DD Peckers missed the mark. Nothing felt clean, not the tables, the restroom, or the menus. I ordered the 10 wings hot and honey and side of fries. Y'all! Out of 10 wings I only received 2 flats! My guest ended up ordering all flats. I wish DD peckers would let customers know that if you order wings you'll pretty much get all drumsticks and not an equals amount of those and flats... I will say this, the food was hot which I liked so things tasted pretty fresh and the flavor wasn't too bad. Also the waitress that gave us our check at the end was pleasant. All in all, DD peckers was an experience but I don't see myself returning. The price was way too expensive for the quality of service we received. $43 is crazy. Restaurant cleanliness is too much of an importance to me and DD Peckers left me very disappointed. read more

We went last weekend, ordered a bunch of wings to-go. We tried 5 different flavors since it was our first time. Since we got a whole tray, it was a little hard to tell which flavor was which and there were a couple we weren't too fond of. Great wings! I enjoyed the hot honey -- great combination of spice and sweet. The fries were good with lots of cheese on top. Great prices. When we walked in there wasn't a host stand or anyone to greet you; You walk right into the middle of the sitting area. This place is small like 12 tables, a few cocktail tables and the bar. On this particular Friday night, all but two tables were full. Eventually, after assisting her table a waitress helped us to a table and got us menus & a highchair. We looked over the menu and another waitress came over to assist us. She was able to tell us the most popular wing flavors and some of her favorite items. Most of the wing flavors are spicy, so we ended up getting Gold and Honey Hot. We got fries and she recommended the onion rings so we also got a half order of those. They don't have an onion rings sauce so you have to use ranch, blue cheese, or spicy ranch. They allow you to get all flats/drumsticks for just $1 up charge. We got one order all flats the other mixed. I was glad to see in the mixed there was an even amount of flats/drumsticks. Everything was tasty and the wings had a good crispiness but still saucy. The fries were seasoned which I really liked and you get a large portion for a half order of onion rings. Service was okay but could be better. Visited on 6/6 read more

I've been coming to Peckers for years and with the rising price of wings it's just gotten too expensive for me to eat here. I have found that their wing flavors are entirely too spicy for me. I used to love the honey hot and the hot garlic but they have gotten too spicy for me. If you like spicy wings, you'll like their wings. It's a no frills restaurant and you'll seem like you're being rushed in and out of the restaurant. They have an entire section made up of regulars in the back that sip on drinks all night that take up multiple tables in a restaurant where tables are scarce. DD Peckers Wing Shack - Park Road Charlotte On my way home and drove by DD Peckers, I turned around and went in deciding I had to try the wings! Martha was very helpful and polite. I didn't think the prices were bad at all. Didn't realize it's definitely more like a bar environment which again nothing wrong with that at all. Ordered 5 of each: mild buffalo, barbecue - my personal preference only? These were the only ones I liked. For me? The char on the Hawaiian just was not to my taste. Again, nothing against the establishment? My taste only. Fiancé tried them and the following: Hawaiian, garlic Parmesan, lemon pepper. He enjoyed all of them with the exception of the lemon pepper. Both of us agreed they were just way too salty unfortunately. He actually disagreed with me on the Hawaiian saying that they were perfectly cooked, it was the char that I wasn't a fan of, but that is something he enjoys on his wings. Having said that? He definitely would go back and try other flavors. The size of the wings were really good as well as the texture. Not overcooked not undercooked. We tried the corn bites and the fried pickle spears. Again, both were very good except again - consensus? The pickles after eating half of one were too salty. Now I don't know how to make fried pickle spears, but perhaps they put less salt in the coating next time, because the pickles definitely were enough salt. I would absolutely go back and try them again if that was something that they would be able to adjust. Because the crispiness and the flavor of the coating was really good. The corn bites were cooked perfectly, great flavor, creamy and very nice texture. All the sauces were good, we got ranch, blue cheese, and I believe spicy ranch. Lastly, I asked Martha if she recommended the hamburgers and she said they were very good and handmade. Both of us agreed wholeheartedly on the cheeseburger! Fiancé said he would definitely go back just for the burger that it was good, he just wishes (this was a double) that maybe they made it a triple - so more meat. To be honest with you I'm not sure if I could've ordered it as a triple? But if you can then that's what we would recommend. He said the way they did the lettuce and the bun they used was perfect. Meat perfectly seasoned. Oh, and I almost forgot that those are onion rings as a side to the burger! Because I took it home they were a little soft when I got home? I think they are much better if eaten fresh at the restaurant. But I definitely enjoyed the onion rings! We are going to toast them in the oven when we reheat them tomorrow to crisp them up. All in all again, only downside was the saltiness of pickles and the lemon pepper. Talk about an unexpected encounter with a really cool chill restaurant! I had some time to kill before I took my kids to a bday party next door (laser tag place) we went in was seat yourself situation. They have about 12 tables then a bar in top a few steps up. I loved it as soon as I walked in! You could just tell this was a local favorite and man I wish it was in my area because I'd go all the time! I ordered the wings obvi cause that's what I read to be their jam! Did not disappoint! My kids ordered a cheeseburger and chicken tenders which also were off the chain! Didn't get a chance to try any cocktails as I was on kid duty! But the prices were very affordable! It's in a plaza and you wouldn't think to go check it out but it's a delightful place to go! I had high hopes when I walked in because it was pretty full. And smelled good. But I walked in no one spoke to us. Eventually we got someone's attention and they told us to just go sit down so we did. The table was a little dirty but we wanted to get out the way. When they lady comes to clean the table which was the only available table. Top it off with the fact that they were cooked correctly aka crispy....it truly was winner winner chicken dinner. My wife ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and loved it. It came with standard crinkle cut fries that were cooked nicely. We also grabbed a half order of the onions rings...if you like lightly coated thin rings...these are for you. We really enjoyed them. Service was fast and friendly, you walk in sit down anywhere and someone will greet you within a couple minutes. Adding in some notes because I finally decided to venture out from my usual Hot Gold buffalo chicken wrap. The cheeseburger was *delicious*!! It's listed as a regular cheeseburger, but what I got was a DOUBLE cheeseburger, what a nice surprise. The burger itself had so much flavor and it was not dry at all. The wings continue to be consistently delicious. The wings have the perfect amount of meat on them, and the sauce combinations are endless. My favorite continues to be Hot Gold. The claim was best wings in CLT. I didn't have that experience, but I'd be willing to try them again. My co workers wings looked pretty good and the way the place filled up for lunch time means they're doing some things right. For my wings...it was disappointing. I went with honey hoisin and I was pretty excited to find hoisin on a wing menu. They were marinated before frying (my co workers Carolina wings were not) and the marinade simply burned. They were crunchy, black, and tasted like burned char with a little honey. I asked the server about them and she shrugged it off and said she thought I knew what i was ordering. I also tried a small order of hot teriyaki chicken sticks and found a similar result (not nearly as burned). Overall I left with a bad taste of burned marinade and chicken skin. The corn nuggets were good, I liked the local dive feel of the place with the licensee plates and ir looked like a full bar. I'll probably try again, but this time was a miss. read more

You guys! What took me so long to try this spot? Some of the reviews I'd seen proclaimed this place to have THE BEST wings in Charlotte and they might be right. Place doesn't look like much from the outside but the business inside tells it all. The entire restaurant was packed with a bunch of people, including myself, placing takeout orders. I would consider myself a bit of a wing snob but wanted to try them as is before making any alternations. I ordered a 10pc and had them split the order with two sauces: the hot gold and hot garlic. I never even knew this place existed in this location. I went for the first time last night and had a great experience. It was completely packed to the brim with people around 6:30 PM on a Friday night. We had about a 25 minute wait, which was not bad at all. The staff was very on top of everything and kept things moving quickly. I don't normally eat a lot of chicken , but these wings were absolutely delicious. I was quite surprised and happy to find out how great they were. They were perfectly cooked and very crispy. The sauces were delicious. It seems I prefer a sauce to a dry rub which I will note for next time. The Cajun was the only one we picked that was the dry rub and it was not my favorite. Other than that I had a great visit. It can be a bit challenging to get someone on the phone for call in orders from time to time; however we have never had any errors with our orders. Our favs are: Hot and Teriyaki and the sweet corn nuggets are addictive. It's similar to a deep fried hush puppy with corn. We always order to go; the restaurant has a sports bar sort of feel to it. The Park Road location is a tightly packed, almost always busy, and tucked into a quiet run of businesses. The wings are always consistent in taste. This is a great place to watch a game for either side of your team or your opponent in the restaurant. We tried DD Peckers for the first time a couple years ago and enjoyed it. We moved closer to the Pineville area and decided to give them another try. My fiancée ordered the honey hot wings & they were really good. The wings were crispy but not too crispy & there was just enough sauce on them. I ordered the hot teriyaki wings & was disappointed to learn the wings aren't traditionally made. The website does not specify that the teriyaki wings are prepared differently. They are baked & smoked. The teriyaki flavor is very minimal. We went back again recently to order more wings. The wet lemon pepper wings are baked & grilled... the lemon pepper wings are the teriyaki wings with lemon pepper seasoning. That is also not listed on their site. I'm sure the lemon pepper wings are good but definitely not what I'd imagine "wet lemon pepper" wings to be. We ended up getting all honey hot wings since we knew how they taste. I give this place 3 stars because the hot honey wings are actually good, wings are a decent size, & the service is fast. I think they're reasonably priced! read more

This was a dad and son wing outing. He had another place picked out but I swung his decision to DDs. We just left Dicks after spending his bday $ and we both were craving wings. It was a Saturday so we sat in full view of every tv in the place. We ordered garlic parm wings and chili cheese fries. We ate all but four wings that we took home but the fries were a goner!! Both the chili and cheese were piping hot and me and the boy indulged until the fries were no more. Always a great place with friendly service. She was taking to-go orders, making drinks, and also serving. Our food came out fairly quickly and was fresh and hot. I ordered the grilled chicken on a stick. The hot honey sauce MADE this entree. Also, I could tell the blue cheese dressing was made in house. It was absolutely amazing and paired well with the sauce and strips. My husband ordered the wings which is what this establishment specializes in and he said he wouldn't order again. Granted his initial choice was the catfish sandwich, but he was told they did not have it because their fridge/freezer was broken . This was our first time visiting this restaurant and will probably be our last. Nothing really stood out. Food, service, or atmosphere. Granted it's a dive bar that sells bar food, but that's also the same reason I will not be returning. I can get bar food at other establishments that are closer to me with the same if not better kind of food. I will say; you can tell this place has frequent return customers.
