This was my first visit at Improper Pig. I ordered the bbq chicken sandwich with a side of edamame salad. The sandwich was good but you have to put your own bbq sauce in it. Highly recommend the smoked pork ribs which are are fall off the bone tender, meaty, and with gorgeous and lovely dry rub and bbq glaze, so good! They need no BBQ sauce! The beef brisket(extra $5) slices are thick, smokey, beefy, and so beautiful. Very good, but a bit on the dry side. No worries, just add one of the many BBQ sauces, all lovely and special in their own ways. The house slaw is nice and light with an Asian inspired dressing. We'd been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it in, unfortunately, it wasn't a good experience. It wasn't crowded at all, so there's really no excuse for what happened. My wife ordered the ribs, and I had the brisket and sausage combo. Service was slow and inattentive. Our server never once checked back on the meal, so we didn't get a chance to say anything until she happened to return. My wife's ribs were badly overcooked, and she couldn't eat them. My brisket was dried out too, though I managed to finish mine. When our server came back, my wife told her the ribs were awful, and she brought the manager over. To his credit, he was genuinely apologetic and comped my wife's meal. That kind of service recovery matters, but it doesn't make up for the fact that the food and table service both fell short. Given how long we'd wanted to try this place, it was a letdown. read more

This place deserves all the praise it can receive. We came here for dinner..I got smoked tofu, grits, and greens. It was delicious. They had something for everyone. My husband enjoyed his salmon sandwich also. On the day that we went they had drink specials available. I was full and throughly enjoyed my meal. We've eaten here on several occasions but have to say this last time was not so good. I had the bad buns with pork and the two of the buns were over steamed to the point of sogginess and one bun was hard as a rock - how they were allowed to leave the kitchen tells me the cook on duty didn't really care what he was serving. Another favorite after Gym Workout Lunch Spots. I consistently get the Chopped Salad with Pulled Chicken. I would rate it as one of the Best Chopped Salads for lunch. There's more lettuce than most Restaurants give you, a large amount of Chicken and toppings. Just walking up to the doors at @TheImproperPig had my mouth salivating. Of course I ordered the BBQ Charcuterie Plate. Here is my 2 cents. The Pulled pork was very tender. Although it was a little bland in taste, the spicy hoisin sauce peeled that baby right out. The Brisket had a sweet brown sugar taste to it. I mixed the pickled red onions with the brisket and the flavor really popped. I didn't really care too much for the House chips. Think of  salt and vinegar chips that have been kettle cooked. OMG the Ribs. Great smokey flavor from the moment my teeth hit the ribs. I wish they were thicker but the Ribs were the best thing on the plate. The Sausage was banging also. There was a spicy after kick, which I loved. I also like the fact that the casing was crispy. The Hush puppies were crunchy on the outside, and soft on the  inside. This was the first time eating here with my husband. We walked in and were sat at a table that had not been wiped down from the previous customers. It was clearly dirty. We were given menus and when our server came to take our drink orders, we asked that the table be wiped down. We had to ask again for it to be wiped down about 15 minutes later when our drinks arrived. So we were not impressed with service at all. The side dishes all sounded delicious so I went with the platter of sides that came with 2 hush puppies and pickled onion. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with house made salt and vinegar chips. Our favorites were definitely the pork, the chips , hush puppies and green beans. 5 stars for all of those! I think the black eyed peas were good but they are a cold salad and it made me realize that I prefer my BEP warm. The Mac and cheese was ok and the Asian slaw was disappointing in its lack of flavor from the dressing. The sides were all extremely fresh and everything was made with high quality ingredients. They did NOT cheap out on the sides and I love them for this. I'm a big veggie girl and appreciate that there were many healthy options and that they had vegetarian and vegan options. I ate there for lunch last Friday and our group of 7 had no problems getting a table. The food was incredible. I got the pork soul rolls and edamame. Every single one of us were thrilled with our meals and Jolene was an amazing waitress who was so attentive and handled all our questions and requests with a smile. The head chef also came out to check on us so we got to rave to him too, I got to try the cobbler which was amazing but I got the banana pudding to go and it was the best banana pudding I have ever had and I have lived in Alabama. Plenty to share with 2-3 people. Brisket and pulled pork were fantastic! Highly recommend. The sausage had great flavor but was a little extra charred for my liking. Coleslaw was flavorful and complemented the meat well and the pimento cheese went well with the crunchy homemade chips. This would have been a 5/5 but the hush puppies were pretty dry and I am not a fan of the St. Louis style ribs. There is hardly any meat and they were super tough to chew. Overall, I will definitely come back again for the pulled pork or brisket! Also seemed like a good atmosphere for a casual night out. If you told me they were regular, I would believe you. Caesar salad was fine. Ribs were a little dry for my liking. The honey butter sauce that came with the hushpuppies was slap your momma good with the sweet potato waffle fries. My favorite thing I had from there actually.
