one of my fav markets in amsterdam. i usually shop here for produce, raw nuts and fish but every once in a while there are random stalls of clothing that have deep discounts. i also bought my bike lock here for 25 eu and my local bike shop was selling them for 75. without brick and mortar costs, the vendors can afford to price things well. i particularily love getting my nuts from the nut vendor. so much more affordable than buying them at the grocery store. there are also some great shops that align the market. for example i often go to the pet shop which is about at the end of the first third of the market entering from the ferdinand side. sorry i don't know the name of his shop but his costs are also a bit better than other pet stores i've been to. it's a mix of tourists and locals that frequent this market. with poffertjes and stroop wafel and other dutch treats i don't blame tourists from wanting their share of a fresh batch of these. read more

A great outdoor market that is an excellent start to exploring the surrounding De Pijp area. You can buy anything from flowers to herring to a new shirt here, but I would recommend stopping by any of the delicious bakeries along the street, picking up some cheese and olives at one of the numerous cheese stalls and walking yourself over to the nearby park to enjoy your purchases amongst the greenery. Also keep an eye out for the juice stalls and the quirky combinations that are on offer there - orange, strawberry and raspberry anyone? read more

The market is a great size, lots of options but not so big that you get overwhelmed or bored. In addition to clothes, housewares and jewelry there are great fruits/vegetables, flowers, olives and sea food. I thought this was a great option for lunch. Get a fried fish sandwich for a few dollars and follow it up with a fresh stroopwaffel or some Poffertjes! These street foods were my favorite thing in Amsterdam. read more

This is Amsterdam's largest open air market. The Dutch seem to love their open air markets which is strange because there weather is awful most months out of the year. Nevertheless, the summer weather is quite pleasant and De Albert Cuypmarket is a great place to take it all in. With everything from fresh squeezed fruit juices and roasted nuts, to raw herring and cheap underwear, the Albert Cuypmarket has something for tourists and locals alike. read more

This is a large, daily market with a tonne of things to choose from. They have food, clothes, flowers, herbs, spices, toys, accessories etc. You name it they have it. It's in the Pijp area of Amsterdam, which is considered as a pretty cool part of town, with many interesting shops and eateries close by. read more

I really want to give 5 stars...but I just can't. But this is 4.5 for sure. For me, it's 5 star for the fish guy almost at the end when you start near the tram (near Etos). He's almost all the way at the end but 100% worth it. O. M. G. I love the brodge lekker. It's simply delicious. A freshly fried piece of white fish on a hotdog-esque roll. You can add a sauce, I recommend the garlic. A dash of old bay, or their version of it. It is delicious. I've been here 2 weeks so far, and I've been 3 times. I'll be back another 2 before I go. Also, the market has a fresh strip waffle guy. It was ok but I can pass in that. There's also a freshly made waffle guy, and that is da bomb! It is just blissful this waffle. You can "dress" it like 10 different ways. Plain, powered sugar, milk choc, white choc, strawberry, almond, sprinkles and some others I'm forgetting. Soooooo good. The market also has great fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, cheeses, breAds, soups, juices, etc! The reason I don't 5 star this place is its filled with vendors selling junk. Garbage. Seriously, who's buying this crap? It ruins what is an otherwise fabulous market. Come here. It's worth the trip and dont forget to see the fresh fish fry guy! read more

This big open air market has it all: delicious dutch and foreign cheese, nuts, clothes in all shapes and sizes, herring and a million other wonders of the deep, really good restaurants...everything! The market, ' The Cuyp' as locals call it, has been around since 1905. My mom was born in this neighborhood and says that, apart from the yuppie wave, the market still has the true Amsterdam vibe. I am a sucker for open air markets. This one was a great mix of dry goods, junk, and food. The vendors were all very nice and not overly pushy. My wife wanted some cheese to take home with us and we found that the quality, selection and price we much better than any of the tourist shops that you find on Rokin or Damrak. read more

De Albert Cuypmarkt and nearby Sarphatipark are a must see every time I visit the Dam. The herring stand there draws me like a magnet! So fresh I think of it as Dutch sashimi and very affordable. I go there for lunch almost ever day. The fish stands and flower sellers blow anything I know of in the US away. Well, at least where I live. If you like a stand on the street, look behind it where there is often a store with more cool stuff. Personally, I like this street market more than the larger Waterlooplein. So many cool things of all sorts to discover. One nice thing about visiting the Dam is if you forget to pack anything, it's easy to pick it up there at a reasonable price. The only thing that concerns me is over the last several years there seems to be less ready to eat seafood in the past like eel and salmon. Time was that the freshest salmon was everywhere. Even salmon pizza. In any event, this market is not to be missed if you visit Amsterdam. read more

Super cute market! I got a couple of souvenirs here, including slippers that look like the iconic wooden cogs, a music box, and a sweatshirt. Also you need to get their juices at the juice bars! Way cheaper than in the center of the city (centruum?). There's a lot of ready to eat food, raw meat, nuts, dried fruit, etc. I really wanted an Amsterdam tshirt that I saw a boy wear in Paris, and even though I couldn't find it, there were a lot of other cute tourist shirts for about €10-15. The sweatshirt I got was €17.50. Every place I've seen sells their wares at the same price so there's no need to worry about getting the best deal, just the best designs. I did see magnets and key chains for €1, which is cheaper than most other places. 10/10 would recommend you visit if you have time! Especially if you live nearby. read more

Meh. There are numerous markets in this city, but this is not one I'd ever make a special trip to (again). Very uninteresting selection of cheap items. As one Yelper noted, this market is similar to a traditional New York street fair, which is to say that it's mostly junk with a sprinkling of interesting things. A far better option is the Saturday market in the Jordaan (though if you're not in town on a Saturday, this isn't an option). read more

my father comes here every year to bring home these famous waffles. i stood in line after the market was closed and this dude was still flipping them waffles. i took 6 canisters home with me. they taste great and fresh when you take them home but theres nothing like a fresh waffle off the press with warm caramel. read more

While visiting Amsterdam, my friend and I took the hop on/hop off canal ride and decided to explore the Albert Cuyp Market after hearing the description. It was immense. I believe it goes on for several blocks and there are stalls on each side of the street selling anything and everything. We saw many that had knock off handbags, tons of food, and more interesting items that were homemade Dutch goodies. Did I mention it was extremely crowded? If you have trouble in tight spaces then this may not be the place for you. It was difficult to get close enough to anything to even browse and much of the time we were just propelled along by the huge crowd. I usually love markets like this but it was so overwhelming with the amount of people in such a tight space. We walked along for two blocks before giving up and ducking down a side street. I didn't see anything I really wanted to purchase, and honestly, it would have taken a lot to be able to get to the item and get it purchased in that never ending crowd. Not for the faint of heart but worth seeing (if only for a block or two)! read more

Junk, junk and more junk. There are flea markets we have been to that put this one to shame. Someone described this place as gritty. While most flea markets maintain that air of grunginess, this one really uses it as its byword;certainly not gritty. We were there during the market and afterwards; believe me you don't want to be there after it is over. While walking around, we saw no real bargains and I don't get the popularity other than for the Stroopwaffels which seem to be sold every other stall. The clothing looks well-worn and of decidedly out of fashion styles. The odor of the fish monger stalls warned of a chancy purchase; good fish markets smell like the ocean, not cat food. We had also walked past the lifeless market early one evening after all the vendors left. The seagulls were having a field day as some city workers did the minimal cursory clean up of the area. I guess after battling it for years, they decided it was just like shoveling you know what against the tide. We quickly walked away after entering the void, trying to not step on whatever that was on the ground and headed towards a more civilized world. Thinking we would give it a try when the market was active merely reinforced our opinion as mentioned previously. Fortunately we went on our way back to the hotel and were able to wash off the "grittiness" in a hot shower. read more

This is an Amsterdam must see, especially if you like markets. There is something for everyone, basic toiletries, clothing, food, knick knacks. They also make some of the best stroopwafels in Amsterdam. They are made right in front of you, sticky, sweet, and warm, simply divine. Try the cheeses, too. The whole De Pijp neighborhood is worth a visit. read more
