    Get into my belly!

After a quick tour of the palace across the square, my wife and I were in search of some food. This was a great find on the top floor of De Bijenkorf! Plenty of cuisines to choose from. We went with bowls of tomato soup and sandwiches. Delicious, and just what we needed after getting caught in the rain. Although it's cafeteria style, the vibe is chic and modern and it feels classy, which fits the rest of the building. Great stop. Would dine again!

De Bijenkorf Kitchen or De Bijenkorf Restaurant or The restaurant on the 5th floor of De Bijenkorf is actually quite a nice place to eat for around €15 per person. What I noticed first when I wanted to check in on Yelp was that the food court doesn't really have a distinct name. I had to check online to find the word "Kitchen" hidden deep away within the website. The plates, and pretty much everything else, has "De Bijenkorf" on it. Anyway, this place looks like La Place but considerably less busy and way more stylish. Everything looks a bit more modern... a bit more sterile and less taverny, if you will. Unlike La Place, I find the quality and execution of the food here to be better. For the grilled salmon, for example, you pay a euro or two more but I like the one here better. More diverse vegetables, a nicer sauce and less potatoes. It looks nicer, feels healthier and tastes great! The cod was a bit boring but still good. Nothing was overcooked, which is easily done with fish. I only tried a few things but I will definitely go back to try the other things that piqued my interest. The lasagna looked amazing and the proportions are relatively generous, I would say. They had smoothies, fresh juices, frozen yogurt, nigiri sushi (although they only had sake nigiri sushi, which is a filet of salmon on a bed of sushi rice), Custom Magnum ice cream (OH!! I'll tell you a bit more about this one!), steak, Asian wok (noodles and rice) and custom salads with things like olives, sautéed mushrooms, leafy greens, potatoes and more. I probably forgot to mention a few things. The Custom Magnum was pretty awesome! For €4 you pick 3 toppings. I chose pistachios, rose petals and chili! "A whole spoon of chili"? She asked me. "Yes, please"! I replied. "Even two if that's possible". Then they'll shake it for you, cocktail style. Then they unwrap a naked Magnum ice cream for you and you choose into which chocolate they're going to dip it for you; white, milk or dark. I chose white. Then they'll sprinkle your chosen toppings on both sides of your freshly dipped and still gooey chocolate before it solidifies. Then they'll pour some more chocolate zig zag over the toppings on your Magnum. I chose white again! The results of my custom Magnum: Vanilla ice cream with crushed pistachios and spicy vanilla chocolate with a hint of rose. Ghlghglhglhg... MOAR!!! Try it out. When I went, there were no long lines or waiting times but the food was still fresh and properly executed. I'll definitely go back. Also good to know is that they have tables, bars and sofas.

Can`t go wrong here! Asian dish, mediterranean salad, a glass of French wine and cake. Delicious.

De Bijenkorf this large department store is located on Damrak Street opposite Dam Square. I visited the restaurants on the top floor several times. This is self-service without a waiter, it is very clean. The dishes are presented nicely and you can choose dishes in various styles, eg Asian, Italian, steak, seafood etc. There are also various soups, salads, sweets and wine, beer and coffee. The dishes are taken on a large tray and paid at the checkout. Price for soup, salad, main course, cake and a glass of wine or beer around the US $ 20. Next, to the restaurant, there is also a restroom. I recommend.

On the top floor of the store you find a good selection of freshly made hot or cold choices for a reasonable price.

So good I stopped by twice on a 3 day trip to the city…read more I stopped by on my first visit craving a big, hearty sandwich for a late lunch and thought this might be a good find. Happy to report I was very right. I grabbed one of the many outside seats, took a look at the menu that was entirely in Dutch and waited for the wonderful waitress to quickly translate nearly every item for me. I landed on the chicken club and it hit the spot. I arrived hungry but could still only manage to finish half. Chicken was grilled perfectly into thin slices, soft boiled egg was a new touch that I loved, avocado, lettuce and probably a few other things I am forgetting. Oh, and a handful of crisps on the side. On my next visit, it was my last night in Amsterdam and I still haven't tried the infamous fries. I stopped in around 9:30 for a late night snack and a hot ginger tea. The fries were the perfect fries! Thin, crispy, salty. I loved. I also can get behind the mayo thing they do here, even though I really am a ketchup loyalist. Anyway, lunch or dinner or late night snack, this is a good spot. You'll like the foot and you'll love sitting outside people watching, reading your book, whatever.
