    Banana Matcha
    Jonathan M.

I ordered a banana matcha and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really liked all the different matcha options this place had and I felt like the quality of the matcha was good. I would recommend this spot if you're in the area and craving matcha. it is a quiet spot to be able to sit down and study/get work done.

High Ceilings. A bit dim inside but the front of the building is all window so the natural lighting is pretty. Very clean interior. Not large but it feels spacious with the high ceilings and minimal furniture. I think this would be a cute place to study. I LOVEDDDDD the Banana Hojicha. I tried the Banana Matcha but thought that the matcha was a bit watered down. I would love to come back and try their other drinks here. You walk in and order on a little tablet. Service doesn't take long at all. It wasn't busy when I went (Sunday around 2pm). Parking is a bit more of a struggle to find if you're coming from out of town. I parked in the college parking lot but I think that might not be as worth it for some people. Thank you De Matcha !

De Matcha might be one of the best matcha places we've visited. No line, warm customer service, and such a calm vibe. We got the Black Sesame Hojicha Latte and Matcha Duo. Already hoping to come back soon.

De Matcha was on my Berkeley matcha crawl list and I was so very excited to try it! You self order on the kiosk and I received my drink very quickly. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte; there were no options to choose sweetness, but you are able to choose the type of milk you want. I wish there were options to choose sweetness level because mine was simply way way way way too sweet. I loved that they used fresh strawberries. You can actually taste the fruit bits in the drink but I was not able to taste the matcha. The café has fairly large seating area for self work or groups but limited street parking like most of the Berkeley area.

the creme brulee matcha was good, but pretty sweet. i think if it was a bit less sweet, it would be perfect. as for the matcha lychee refresher, the lychee flavor was strong, but the matcha was really grainy /:

Came here to give this place a second chance. Went up to the counter and asked which matcha was the most matcha least sweet and the guy said he could make me a ceremonial matcha with extra matcha and no sugar. Turned out amazing!! Also got a seat inside and the lighting was perfect. Great spot to catch up with friends. Was fun trying everyone else's flavors. All a bit too sweet for me but could definitely taste the fruits.

Yummy matcha! De Matcha offers a wide variety of matcha and hojicha drinks as well as Japanese snacks. The drinks are amazing! The hojicha lattes have an incredibly rich and deep flavor. The hojicha was perfectly sweet, nutty, and smooth. The Crème Brûlée Matcha Latte was also very good! The drink was sweet but had a lovely umami flavor. They definitely didn't skimp out on the matcha. The matcha was dark, potent, and good quality. The Crème Brûlée top was very good and added a nice crisp to the drink. The drinks came out surprisingly quick. The staff were friendly. This is a nice spot to get some work done too. This spot has a bit of a brutalist look about it while being welcoming at the same time. It was a little dark and quiet but had some natural lighting coming in. The seats and tables were comfy, very inviting for a study sesh. I definitely will be back to try some more of their menu items!

Was running through Berkeley on Telegraph when I passed by De Matcha. I remembered seeing this place pop up on reels as the newest matcha spot in the area, so we decided to stop in right after our run! - Strawberry Matcha Duo -- layers of strawberry purée at the bottom, matcha latte in the middle, and matcha foam on top, lightly dusted with matcha powder; not overly sweet, super aesthetic, and I loved the whole strawberry slices! A refreshing and energizing post-run treat - Strawberry Matcha -- similar to the duo but without the matcha foam; a bit lighter overall and simpler in flavor They also offer other duo-style drinks like banana and mango, and their osmanthus matcha latte looked fruity and refreshing too. You can't adjust the sweetness likely because the matcha mix already contains sugar. The balance was a tad on the sweeter side for me. Service was friendly and fast, and drinks came out quickly. Orders are placed through tablet kiosks (a Berkeley college town classic). There are a handful of seats inside, making it a great spot to sip and study. Ambience is calm and minimalist -- definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a new matcha stop in Berkeley!

I'm usually not a fan of matcha but this place is delicious! The strawberry matcha comes with some foam that's a nice touch. Way better than Boba Guy's strawberry matcha. The pistachio is good too, very nutty.

Ordering kiosks at right. Pick up center straight ahead.

De Matcha (aka Matcha Matcha) opened recently where The Alley once was. Limited seating inside. Ordering done at 2 kiosk at right of counter. Steady flow of patrons. There's a rush at times-classes ended? Menu posted near door at left. Didn't understand some categories. Offerings (Matcha): Ceremonial Matcha, Matcha Refreshers, Hojicha, Japanese snacks Ordered at kiosk. Drinks didn't show any options as to ice level, sugar levels. Nor descriptions of drinks. Ordered. Pd. Got drink in 8 minutes. Sips: Black Sesame Hojicha Latte (7.50) -filled to brim with ice, had no lid, straw not given. Had to return to counter to get lid & straw. -mix was pretty sweet. Black sesame flava nuanced. Overpowered by sweetness? -Hojicha is roasted Japanese green tea. Tasted it near the finish. Didn't Mix drink initially. Didn't know protocol. 4ish stars: maybe worthy if done right. Many reviews cited lack of matcha available or dearth of matcha in drinks. Quantity: ok. Milk aplenty. Quality: unknown how much Hojicha, whole milk, black sesame was present. Repeat maybe.

Came to Berkeley and stopped by this new matcha place. This space specializes in matcha and there's a variety of matcha drinks to choose from. Pistachio Matcha Latte (3/5): I had high hopes for this as this was a place that specializes in matcha and I love pistachio flavors. I thought the drink was way too heavy and the pistachio flavor was very light. I even got the drink with oat milk. I would come back here for the hojicia drinks.

Really great matcha with a rich, well-balanced flavor. The only downside is that you can't adjust the sweetness and it does lean a bit on the sweeter side. If you prefer less sugar, that might be something to keep in mind - but overall still a solid matcha.

No fluff review since you're here looking for straight deets: Tried 4 drinks amongst my group, overall positive experience because the drinks weren't too sweet and used good quality matcha. Just look at the dank green color! |Banana Matcha Duo| -- They used smashed bananas as their base layer in the drink, which gives legit banana flavor. Yummy when mixed together with the matcha, but I would've wanted a stronger matcha flavor (I'm someone who wants the dankest matcha flavor) |Peach Matcha Duo| -- Surprisingly REALLY yummy! The peach didn't overpower the matcha. I'd get this again. |Ube Latte| -- Ube wasn't too sweet, was delicious when mixed in with espresso. I'd totally get this again if I wanted a coffee based drink. |Brown Sugar Hojicha Oatmilk Latte| -- amazing, rich, delicious hojicha flavor. If you're a hojicha fan, get this ! I'd forsure come back. Unfortunately this spot is located in that crowded area in Berkeley near campus, however parking "can" be achievable depending on the time you go.

They have an extensive menu of tea, I decided to get the black mango tea, which is indicated as high caffeine. They told me to keep it to less than 1 min steeping or else it gets oversteeped. They were prompt with coming out with my tea leaves and teapot, and gave me a towel to put your teapot on in case of spills It was bitter, but definitely has the fruity notes I was seeking. I was able to make several potfuls of tea which still had some flavor in them, so the leaves seemed to do well with re-steeping. They provided me with a kettle so I could continually reboil the water, so I felt it was decent value (since total it cost only slightly more than the average boba costs nowadays). I'm thinking I'd like to get the lychee or hojicha next time. The worker didn't mention to me if they offer milk, which I wish they did. But they do sell snacks. The bathroom is clean. They have free wifi but the day I was there, unfortunately they were having issues with the wifi. They have a 2 hour time limit on weekends, but no limit on weekdays. I appreciate that they have outdoor seating, for those who are airborne illness conscious, and also so you can enjoy nature and sunshine while having your tea. A lovely spot overall, right on San Pablo Ave so you can take the 72 bus lines to reach it.

The staff member was super helpful and friendly in recommending us different teas. We ended up picking the Yunnan Gold and Moonlight White - a black tea and a white tea. The Yunnan Gold had more of a bold flavor and smelled and tasted wonderful. The Moonlight White was much lighter but still very nice and pleasant. Each table has its own kettle so we got to brew the tea ourselves. I know tea always comes with brewing instructions but I never really paid attention to those. However, this experience made me realize the importance of brewing tea as instructed to fully enjoy the flavors and notes each tea offers. Overall, my friend and I had a great experience.
