Me and my friend celebrated our Amsterdam Marathon 2016 run here and it was the perfect post run meal: first great garlic snails and then an enormous steak. Perfect. The fifth star was lost to the fact that the bar crew couldn't produce a Dry Martini. Strange but true. read more

As an American (and NY'er), I take my Ribs serious... The ribs here are the best I've had in all of Europe! Cooked perfectly, fall of the bone great with just their natural flavor. The sides of BBQ sauce (which they make themselves, and should bottle & sell~) or Garlic sauce go perfect with the ribs. You get no side dishes... But a salad and potatoes will probably be too much food. The ribs themselves are 2 slabs of yummy! Joyce served us, great attitude and smile. The whole staff speaks English and are very helpful. Slightly more expensive than some places, but you get what you pay for! 29e for me- ribs, baked potato, diet coke and large bottle still water. 32e for buddy- ribs, salad and 3 beers. Steak places are a bit dime-a-dozen in this part of Amsterdam so picking the right one is crucial. Previous Yelp reviews led me to De Nachtwacht and on arrival we sat at the bar. Nice variety on the menu and I ordered a T-bone steak with loaded baked potato. The steak was beautifully cooked, rivalling perhaps Hawksmoor, against which all steaks are measured. Attentive service throughout with food delivered at a good pace. Really recommended if you are looking for a high quality steak dinner. read more

We arrived in amsterdam after 10 pm. This place was right across out hotel so we went in! It was pretty expensive for the area but the food was fantastic! The salmon was some of the best I've ever had! The drinks were also very good!! Make sure you have a reservation we were there at 1030 pm and still had to wait about 20 minutes for there to be an open spot. read more

This was the only option that was opened pretty late near the DAM SQUARE (most kitchens are closed by 10 pm). The food was really good esp. the French onion food. Delicious!!! When in Amsterdam you have to come to this place if you're a meat lover. Just come with an appetite because the portions are favorable. The service was outstanding and the food was beyond amazing and if you seat outside then you have a recipe for perfection. We tried several things from the menu and every dish that came out was better than the last. I recommend the marinated ribs. Just keep in mind they serve two rack of ribs and for $20 Euros you cannot beat that. read more

Not a seafood restaurant unless you consider a single dish of grilled salmon and shrimp cocktail as an app on the menu as qualifying. Our shrimp cocktail app was served with sliced white bread toast. We pulled the plug without ordering dinner, only the second time I've ever done that. Fine for lunch or snacks but not dinner. read more

This is my 3rd time here and it's a absolute staple in remblandtplein if u r a carnivore. All the reviews r true and I am a very well traveled 42 yr old American from New York. I also been to holland 3 times, best food here. The waitresses r very helpful and perfectly placed. Be aware the petit filet is actually a cut called tournado which is a bit more rich in texture which I admit I like as I'm more of a New York strip guy. Things to know; reservation would help and probably the day before if you can. Same day the line was busy for an hour or more once they opened but we were lucky to secure a table. Next if you order the ribs you need to know it's 2 slabs which may be a lot for some to be able to share. The T-bone was one of the best ever! And the ribs were very good too. The French onion soup was a great way to start. You will enjoy this place if you have time. It's right in Rembrandt Square; if your standing at the statues then turn around. Enjoy your meal. New all time fave. My friends & I got into Amsterdam really late on a Thursday, headed into Rembrandtplein around 11:30pm and De Nachtwacht was the only place in the area still serving food. Hands down best grilled salmon I've ever had. Thick steak fries & good beers. My friends loved their steak. Great, relaxed but energized atmosphere. Great service. Waitress gave us lots of helpful recommendations for our short weekend in AMS. Can't wait to return. read more

De Nachtwacht bestaat sinds 1973 als BBQ restaurant in Amsterdam. In de jaren 80 en 90 was het 1 van de grote vier (Castell, Castillo en Seapaardje). De Nachtwacht staat bekend om haar super kwaliteit van vlees en voorgerechten gecombineerd met een echte amsterdamse sfeer. Sinds 1 april 2010 is de hele zaak gerenoveerd in dezelfde retro style van 1973 ! De keuken is iedere dag open tot 0.30 en in het weekend tot 1.30. Ook zijn wij open voor de lunch (lunch specialiteit: saté van ossenhaas)

Waar nu de Nachtwacht is gevestigd is al sinds mensenheugenis een horeca lokatie. Wij hebben een foto van 1918 waarin het pand dienst deed als café. In de jaren 50 en 60 zat hier de beruchte Trocodero Club.

We asked for our check and were asked if we wanted to add a tip and at that point we explained our experience. He apologized but offered only the explanation that there were several complaints that evening and it was because the normal cooking staff were not there. So unhappy. Will not be going back.

After we had finished the starter, the bread finally came out. A little sad. Dinner took forever to come out but it was great. Ordered the filet, medium rare. When it came out it was good., although it only had a drizzle of sauce. It was odd that the gave us one basket of fries for three people. We had to get another one immediately. I doubt we'll be back.

This place was heaven sent for us. One thing I do want to call out: my daughter's friend has a severe allergy to seafood, nuts, and kiwi, and the staff was incredibly attentive and accommodating. That wasn't our experience everywhere in Europe, so it definitely stood out and was appreciated. We went simple with two steaks: the "Mrs. Porter" and a bone-in ribeye. Mrs. Porter needed a little more seasoning, but the ribeye was . Sides? Honestly don't even remember them . . . which probably says enough. The highlight might've been the "Mr. Fox" dessert. They bring out this chocolate fox head, pour liquid nitrogen into it, and crack it open tableside. Super cool presentation. The tables on the front patio are very close together,typical for Europe, which makes for an interesting dining experience since it seems like everyone's conversations are easily overheard and your dining choices are looked at and commented on by your dining neighbors lol! We were in the mood for steak since there are so many Argentinian Steak Houses here you can't help but be enticed by all of the photos as you walk by. We decided to share a Cote du Boef aka "bone-in ribeye steak"; 900 grams ( a little less than two pounds) for $55 BUT they ran out so the waiter offered us the tomahawk 1100 grams for $75. We regretted that decision-more on that later... A hot stone was delivered to our table along with the salad and frites. Then...our HUGE piece of beef was sliced by our waiter who had a hard time fitting the whole thing onto the hot stone which then cooked our beef while we waited and watched. It took a lot longer than we were told it would take since the slices were very thick. Once we were able to try the steak we were disappointed by all of the fat and gristle. I'm sure at least 1/2 of the steak was inedible. So...we each probably got about 250 grams (1/2 lb) of meat, which was mostly tender. This was only a little more steak than if we had gone with their smallest filet mignon for a much more economical price. We are glad we tried a tomahawk steak once but feel like it was a waste of money. We didn't care for our main waiter's attitude (but that may be a culturally-based viewpoint since we are Americans in Holland). We had three to four different servers waiting on us which added to the feeling of indifference we caught from the servers. The hot stone just felt like a gimmick, but then again, our steak choice wasn't the greatest for the size of the stone. We would have been happier if we had had a much smaller piece of beef for each of us.
