I ordered The Highlander (Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Tio Pepe Sherry, Roots Diktarmo, Cherry & Vanilla) cocktail to enjoy while I waited for my meal. This was a very smooth drink. They were offering a complimentary Beef-Fat Washed Old Fashioned (Woodford Reserve Bourbon Old Fashioned with the bourbon infused with nuts and umami-packed beef fat) to Dads. Unfortunately the nut infusion precluded me from trying it. I had a complimentary Old Fashioned instead. It was just as good as The Highlander. My meal consisted of Beef Carpaccio and Steak Salad. The carpaccio was razor thin. Both dishes were delicious. I closed out the meal with the Chocolate Sorbet. This was one of the best meals I had in London on this trip. If you are on a schedule, make sure to let your server know in advance. Otherwise, their leisurely serving pace might stress you out.

It can be argued that it's a matter of taste (and as I haven't lived in Argentina for over 20 years now, I'm sure things have changed and evolved there too) but the food no longer resembles traditional Argentine cuisine IMHO. The first chance I had to try this place was for breakfast on a miserable winter's day. The poached eggs and blood sausage when down well with Quilmes. Superb and made the Sunday suck less. Tonight I've enjoyed the fillet steak, fries & glass of red wine. Simply served in an authentic Argentine home style. The guilty dessert surprised me... it made me feel like a better man for eating it. That's how good it was. For 40GBP it's a little steep, though the good service, ambiance and location of the place make up for it. I wouldn't like to compare it to a place like Hawksmoor, though if you're looking to relax & enjoy a good steak with a little culture thrown in, you really must try this place.

Everything was grilled right in front of me but the sandwich ended up being smaller than I expected, though the generous portion of chips made up for it. I would have been disappointed with the £10 sandwich though. Chips were excellent though I was annoyed that they didn't have any containers for sauce and instead squirted it right in the box, which made some of the chips soggy by the time I got back to my flat. The steak was a bit gamey honestly and didn't taste super high quality. I did quite like the bread the sandwich was on however. It was fine but I won't be adding it to my regular lunch list.

The steak is so juicy and tender, and they give you huge chunks at a reasonable price. Also, take advantage of their chimichurri sauce! I put a ridiculous amount of chimichurri on mine, and it tasted like heaven. This food stand probably has one of the longer waits, but I guarantee you that it's worth it! My mouth is watering as I'm typing this. Will definitely seek this place out again the next time I'm in London!

The meat quality is better than average - but the steaks are not cheap. I paid £20.95 for a 300g (10.6 ounces) sirloin steak with a baked potato. A sauce (peppercorn, mushroom, cheese etc) costs extra. Salad costs extra, too, but you'll have access to a salad buffet. The steak was very well prepared, though I'd suggest that if you want medium rare, you'd order rare, medium rare if you want medium, and so on. The beer selection is not great. Fosters (Yuck!) is the "cheapest" on tap, 4.95 for a pint. The slightly better Heineken will cost you 5.25. All other beers are 330cl and bottled only. There's a wine selection, of course. The decor is a wee bit shabby, the furniture has seen better days. The waitress was efficient and friendly, but the owner, a middle aged grumpster, was hovering about without a word to any of the customers. Very unpleasant. Upon your visit you'll be given a voucher for 50% off your next steak dinner, starter and 1 side (like the baked potato) included. With that discount it is a good deal, without the voucher, it's .... London. Would go there again with the voucher.

But I also somewhat regard it as Fogo de Chão's naive younger cousin. It has that authentic Brazilian backbone, but still needs a little bit of work on some of those finer details in bringing it to samba life. Pros: All-you-can-eat, great Picanha, good variety of meat, friendly Brazilian staff, Guarana, black beans, and you know it's true Brazilian when the farofa's out. Cons: Fairly pricey, missing some essentials such as palmito, pão de queijo, and coração de galinha (soo gooood), service can be a little slow, they replay the same concert on DVD over and over. There's also something not quite right with the way the caipirinha is mixed. I tipped over to four because it is the best Brazilian I have found in London and each time I go back I see some sort of improvement. High hopes for this one! PS. THIS PLACE IS NOT ARGENTINE

The staff didn't seem very welcoming either. Even the couple who sat down close by had walked out 5 mins later! Yet I thought, "C'mon, give it a chance". I was foolish. The menus were broken and confusing to follow. After asking the waitress, I understood that they had a buffet selection, including skewers of meat distributed by staff (£22ish), or a main dish (£12ish), which was said to come with potatoes, rice, salad, and your selected meat. My boyfriend and I decided on a main dish. When the food finally arrived, I was very disappointed to have waited for a dish that had two lonely baby potatoes, flimsy rice (looked like re-heated-in-a-microwave type of rice), coleslaw (that could have possibly been bought from Sainsbury's basic brand range), and 6 "cubes" of beef. I didn't bother with dessert, which is a rarity. Never again.

First, the host brought us water and then it was a solid 10 minutes before the waiter came to our table. I asked to sample a Malbec and before I could say anything else, he was gone. More time went by and then my wine sample appeared. He dropped the glass and was off again. Another 10 minutes went by before he came to take our order. Knowing that steak temperatures vary greatly, I asked if the medium was pink. He said, slightly. So, I asked if the medium rare was bloody. He said an emphatic, "no". In fact he said, due to the aging process of the meat, even the rare steaks, have no blood. I ordered the medium rare so as not to be disappointed by a too cooked medium. So, you can imagine my surprise when the steak came to the table sitting in a pool of bloody juice. "This is exactly what I was trying to avoid" I said. He whisked away the steak, had the chef flash it on the grill and brought it back brown on the outside and still raw enough that it was challenging to cut, and yes, still a bit bloody inside. Aside from the steak I ordered chimichurri (which I had to remind him to bring), mashed potatoes and yucca chips to start. The chips looked like they came from a bag with some ice cold and browned mashed avocado on the side. All of it utterly flavorless. I am not one to add salt to anything and yet, there I was shaking away at absolutely everything. If that weren't enough, the table next to us left and although we were the last table to arrive and no other people were waiting, our waiter decided to give the table directly next to ours a full spray down of chemicals to clean the table. He then proceeded to wipe it down in the direction of our food. The entire experience was unbelievably poor. It was recommended by our hotel and I will be sure to share my experience with them.

I grew up with it in Los Angeles when the aging…read moresteakhouse was still one of the USA's key windows into "Japanese Culture" (hint: it's not Japanese at all but read up on the founder if you want a more complicated and debauched story!) So after some weeks of trying dozens of local restaurants I needed something that reminded me home and Benihana did the trick, despite being rather exorbitantly priced compared the quite reasonable bills you get in the States. I should preface this and say that first I tried the champion of all things consistency: McDonalds. I tried it once when I was a kid, was surprised at how bad it was compared to what I enjoyed back home (despite everyone telling me it would be exactly the same) and on my recent late night visit I was disappointed to discover that it remains fairly underwhelming. But enough of that, this is about Benihana! I'm not sure I need to do a detailed review for the place other than to say that the food was exactly the same as most locations in the United States, the service was much better, the onion tower was more explosive, and the bill was at least 50 USD over what I'm used to. Generally Benihana is fairly inexpensive for what you get given that it's generally better than most American chain steakhouses but here the prices were slightly pricier than usual so it definitely made me do a double take. This said, I enjoyed myself and I'm not using hyperbole when I say that the chateaubriand here was a lot better than the cruddy steak I had at Hawksmoor. YEAH I SAID IT.
