So in london Sundays are Sunday roast day. We ordered the never ending roast. bottomless roast, choosing from roast Picaña or cuadril of beef, or roast leg of lamb. I mainly ate the roast picana. First time trying Yorkshire pudding bread, its not bad but not my favorite. The vegetables were good. The roast picana was good. We tried roasted beef marrow bone, not bad. Nice experience. I wouldn't do the roast again. But next time i would try other dishes. read more

Where do I begin... I'm only giving this 2 generous stars because the waiter was on his own. However, this was one of the most disappointing meals I've had in a long time. First, the host brought us water and then it was a solid 10 minutes before the waiter came to our table. I asked to sample a Malbec and before I could say anything else, he was gone. More time went by and then my wine sample appeared. He dropped the glass and was off again. Another 10 minutes went by before he came to take our order. Knowing that steak temperatures vary greatly, I asked if the medium was pink. He said, slightly. So, I asked if the medium rare was bloody. He said an emphatic, "no". In fact he said, due to the aging process of the meat, even the rare steaks, have no blood. I ordered the medium rare so as not to be disappointed by a too cooked medium. So, you can imagine my surprise when the steak came to the table sitting in a pool of bloody juice. "This is exactly what I was trying to avoid" I said. He whisked away the steak, had the chef flash it on the grill and brought it back brown on the outside and still raw enough that it was challenging to cut, and yes, still a bit bloody inside. Aside from the steak I ordered chimichurri (which I had to remind him to bring), mashed potatoes and yucca chips to start. The chips looked like they came from a bag with some ice cold and browned mashed avocado on the side. All of it utterly flavorless. I am not one to add salt to anything and yet, there I was shaking away at absolutely everything. If that weren't enough, the table next to us left and although we were the last table to arrive and no other people were waiting, our waiter decided to give the table directly next to ours a full spray down of chemicals to clean the table. He then proceeded to wipe it down in the direction of our food. The entire experience was unbelievably poor. This is both the most expensive, yet one of the best meals my wife and I ever had. It was both our honeymoon and my wife's birthday and I was searching for some restaurants open late after the Victoria & Albert Museum closed for their Friday late hours. I found this place on OpenTable and expected a lot given the ££££ on the listing and the required deposit I never have paid before in my life. It not only met but exceeded our expectations. The decor is nice with cow designs on the chairs. Our server was amazing and made great recommendations. The food was also some of the best we ever had and the drinks complimented the food well. For starters we ordered the Steak Tartare and Burrata. For our main course we ordered the Gaucho Sampler which had Cuadril (rump), Chorizo (sirloin), Ancho (ribeye), and Lomo (fillet) steaks which were the best steaks we ever ate. For sides we ordered Summer Tomato, Oyster Mushrooms, and Humita (street corn). We also ordered per our waitress's recommendation Chimichurri, and Smoked Chipotle BBQ sauce. Their drink selection was great was well. For the London Restaurant Festival, we got free glasses bubbly wine which we don't recall but which we think was Coates & Seely Brut Rose. With the steaks we ordered two different glasses of Malbec. Again, we can't remember what they were but one was a more affordable and another was costlier. For our final drinks with dessert we had the Citrus Negroni and La Pasión Del Chocolate. Since it was my wife's birthday they put a candle on top and wrote happy birthday in Chocolate for our desert of our choice which was a miniature Salted Dulce De Leche Cheesecake. All in all, it was a great experience well worth the high £200s and low $300s we paid. read more

Walk in no reservations on a Tuesday evening. Great recommendations from our waiter - ended up with the 400g sirloin and the 500g speciality cut ribeye with chimichurri . Bottle of a nice Malbec Bonardo blend, sourdough bread, oyster mushrooms and spinach. All in All an excellent steak dinner/ medium rare cut with a butter knife. As usual, upon entering the restaurant, the service was amazing. We were seated without any delay. Our waiter brought us the menus and asked us if we wanted any water which we ordered. After looking through the menu, I started with the Steak Tartare which was really good. For my mains, I opted for The Beef Bar Sampler and I have to say that it was the best choice! The various cuts were amazing and this was the best steak I have ever had in a restaurant. It went well with our choice of red wine which was Catena Appellation Agrelo. A great experience overall. As an American, I am entirely and emphatically underwhelmed with the quality of beef and skill in preparation in Europe. I mean it is really bad. So, you can say I was skeptical when a friend insisted I meet him in Sloan to have dinner at Gaucho - an Argentinian steakhouse chain. Oy, this should be a doozy, I thought. Ok, I was wrong. Very, very wrong. I had a comprehensively amazing dining experience. From the outside, this Gaucho location does not look like much of anything. I thought it was some sleepy neighborhood bistro - until I went inside. The restaurant was absolutely packed, the bar scene was vibrant with lots of young-ish people having drinks. We were seated quickly in the ultra-chic dining room of contrasting black carpet and white leather booths. The walls were made from cow hide, with the cow hair still on it. Really cool. We got the filet and the sirloin with sides of chips, béarnaise and of course - chimichurri sauce. The chimichurri was fantastic. The chips were fantastic. The béarnaise was fantastic. The steaks were phenomenal. And we washed it all down with a really good Malbec. They had a really deep Malbec selection, as you might expect from an Argentinian restaurant. I had a good feeling about this place, waiters were extremes kind and they all knew very well the menu and the cooking processes of all cuts of meat so I expected the food to be great. Bread in fact was a good sign, it was really good and home baked. Although when the main arrived I soon realised that the ingredients did not live up the the hype. And the burger we got the avocado was not good at all (a lot of lime was added as well, not a good sign), they probably struggled to find good avocados for the week which is understandable but then don't serve them at all. Moreover, the tomatoes were cheap looking and tasted like nothing, much better tomatoes can be found in any local market. To sum it up, definitely not a bad place, but we expect much more from burgers which are priced almost 20£. Props to the staff though for being prepared and kind. read more

We had a very nice dinner here during a business stay in London. The food was plentiful and tasty, but definitely not my first choice of food, as the menu was too dominated by meat and heavy dishes. Also they could very easily have cut down on the amount of food. We barely managed to eat half of what was brought to the table. Serving three big and heavy desserts per person after many courses is just silly ... NOMnom. This is the second location I've been to of this Argentine grill - I had good experiences at both. Basically, same menu, service and decor. Steak and wine, wine and steak ~ why else would you take a trip to Gaucho? They have a simple selection of meats & cuts - no fuss. They have a meat board where the server explains everything to you, and if you want to see what type of cut & size before ordering. But, if you must fancy something other than steak they have a good variety of seafood & salads. To go with your order, they have a good selection of cocktails to wines that should definitely be sampled. On top of all the goodness - starters, sides & desserts are def a must too! I loved Gaucho Grill. Expect Argentine Grill at its finest. We started with the Oysters - they were all perfectly shelled and brought out cold and delicious. The bread that accompanied our oysters and food satiated us until our meat came. We got the Gaucho Sampler - all four cuts of their beef. Cuadril, Chorizo, Lomo, and Ancho. My favorite was the Cuadril - it melts in your mouth. A side of salad and potato puree was a perfect accompaniment - but expect to be stuffed for days afterward. Dessert (yes- somehow we kept eating) was sooo good. We had a dulce de leche cheese cake and a tiramisu cocktail. I have no idea how we had room for all of this food. I was extremely impressed by their wine menu - mainly because during my stay in London it was impossibly hard to find Argentine wine, but Gaucho Grill didn't disappoint (seems obvious - Argentine wine at an Argentine restaurant). Their selection of Malbec was fabulous and the wine list was organized by region and altitude. A Fabre Montmayou Gran Riserva from Mendoza ('05) went well with our meal. The decor is very posh, dark, sleek, and sexy. All different types of dress were present (from smart jeans & tops to sexy dresses and suits) but I wouldn't feel comfortable in anything less than a pencil skirt and heels. For our 5th anniversary, my boyfriend surprised me with dinner at Gaucho. While the service isn't up to savoir-vivre and protocol standards, it is very very good, refilling glasses of wine and water, bringing things quickly, and explaining everything we needed them to from the menu. I personally had a Lomo piece (300gr - about £30) cooked "medium". And it really WAS cooked to medium. Not Britain's usual botched-up medium-well or even well-done. They know their steaks!! It was thick, ever so slightly dryer on the outside, insanely juicy inside, and just the right shade of pink. I'm still drooling over it as we speak. As a side I had the sweet potato chips with chorizo. Yummy! I'd skip the entrees / appetizers. Good, but if you're there for steak, they don't serve much of a purpose. And aren't their specialty. Overall, the best steak I've had this side of the atlantic. Only one steak house in Chicago beats it. Same cut, same cooking. although now I'm reconsidering it may well be that Gaucho beats even that. It was juicier. I had to slow down not to swallow the whole piece in seconds! Oh. One things that's a bit upsetting. They serve the piece of meat on a single white (warm!! hurrah!!) plate. No garnish, no sauce, no nothing. It looks a bit... lonely. We stayed at an apartment very close by and chose this restaurant for its location. The food was outstanding. They served a wet aged rib-eye that had been marinated in olive oil, garlic & parsley for 24 hours. It was outstanding!! A side of kale with lardons was the perfect compliment. Whow, such a poshy place!!!! The food is amazing, the steaks are perfect, and everything, from the starters to the desert going through the wine and cocktails list is very well done. The staff is nice, friendly and professional at the same time. We had a very nice bottle of wine (FOURNIER A CRUX 2003) full bodied, smooth, ripe with silky tannins - very good suggestion from them! It is not a cheap place but for the quality of food and service prices are fair enough. What i didn't like? Few details: the furry chairs (really cheesy for me), the toilets (beautiful, stylish but small for such a big restaurant!), the water glasses (I don't like to drink water in goblets) and, mainly, the cheeses board (very nice selection of five cheeses but they don't put them random on the board without suggesting you the flavour order - not everyone could be a gourmet expert!). Ambience is pleasant but steaks are very average IMHO. If you love steak, go to Jack O'Shea butchers in Knightbridge and cook one of theirs at home - it will blow away anything that Gaucho puts infront of you. To round out my London adventure what else but an Argentinean steak place. Over detailed menu and winelist (similar to craft) but without the chops to fully execute on it. I thought the wine selection was actuallyt pretty cool sorted by variety and then by altitude it was a neat way to think about South American wine but I wasn't sold on our waiter knowing much about it. The sides and sauces were decent but I was disappointed with the steaks themselves. I was very underwhelmed by the quality of the meats and the quality of the preparation. Sometimes, one just has to have Big Chunks of Red Meat. And, if one's going to go for a carnivorous carnival, then it's GOT to be Argentinian beef! Sat on the corner of Sloane Avene and Ixworth Place, Gaucho is a long dining room with an open kitchen, and surprisingly dark despite the windows running the full length of the room. The furnishings and style is unashamedly 70's-man black, chrome and mirrors, and the 'cowhide' seats are an interesting touch The bread that our (fantastic) waiter brought out was a revelation, and set the tone for the rest of the meal. The Colombian 'cheese rolls' were light, cheesy and quite frankly fantastic. We then shared a mix of three of Gaucho's signature ceviches - saltwater trout, prawn and lobster, and swordfish. All were wonderful, but the saltwater trout was especially amazing! Then, it came time for the main course - Big Chunks of Red Meat. Prior to choosing, the waiter actually brings a chopping board over, showing the four main cuts of beef Gaucho offer - rump, fillet, sirloin and rib-eye - along with a sample of their lamb and a marinated 'corkscrew cut' rump steak. Gerry chose the marinated steak, and I went for a 400g sirloin. Both were absolutely superb - the sirloin, served blue to my liking, was beautifully grilled on the outside, with those touches of slight charring that make a steak interesting, yet it was superbly tender and melted in the mouth. The marinated rump was equally well done, and the whole served with a good plate of fries, mash for The Darling G and a tasty tomato and mixed-leaf salad. We decided not to bother with dessert, not wanting to spoil our meal by over-filling! The service was attentive and friendly without being cloying, the branded toothpicks in their 'matchbook' holders a funky touch, and the bill a pretty reasonable £95 including service - which, surprisingly for London, wasn't included as standard! Everything they say about Argentinian Beef is true. If you're feeling like a caveman, craving lumps of red meat - go there, you'll love it. My expectations before going to Gaucho were very high since it is meant to be a very posh place. Unfortunately, I was slightly disapointed by quite a few minor details, but the steak made it all better. The issues I had are very minor and I wouldn't even consider them for lesser places. But for Gaucho I was expecting everything to be perfect and it wasn't: the glasses were dirty, the toilets are way to small for such a place, the appetisers and deserts were nothing to go on about (they were good but nothing out of the ordinary) and lastly after having put so much effort in the interior decor they could have hidden all those A/C units instead of sticking them on the wall. What I liked about the place: the service was very good and the waiteress was very helpfull in selecting the wine and explaining the cuts of meat. The steak was by far the best steak I ever had, perfectly cooked, juicy, tender, just amazing. I would go back to Gaucho, but wouldn't bother with anything else than the steak. By not eating appetizers and desert, I would be able to eat a bigger steak and that was the best part of the meal by far. read more

The restaurant is lovely. We went on our last night in London, to try something a little different. It is definitely a place for meat eaters. I had the Gaucho sampler and found the meat to be cooked as I requested and very tasty. The pepper sauce was excellent. We also had a sausage sampler for an appetizer. Interesting tastes, although I am not familiar with all the different types they served. My father, the sausage maker, would have approved. The service was good while we were eating. The only downside was getting the check. We sat for quite awhile waiting for the bill so we could finish our evening. I would absolutely go back. read more

Great little place, book in advance on a Friday or Saturday, it gets kind of busy. Watch out for parking make sure you read the signs properly, a friend of mine got towed just outside the restaurant. Now for the food, the food is great, aim to have the fillet as its much softer, the mushrooms, spinach and chips make excellent sides to go with the steak. The atmosphere is also very good with nice music playing at a volume which doesn't overpower the conversations. read more

This time just as previously I thoroughly enjoyed it and ordered some flank which was very tasty with a marinade of paprika on top. The bread on its own is so nice. I was invited there by a friend last week and was worried as I knew it was a Steak restaurant and as a vegetarian thought I would have a hard time finding something to my taste. Fortunately I did get recommended a dish of ravioli with some courgette flower which I thought was very tasty. My friend enjoyed a massive fillet of beef and though it was yummy and tasteful. The winner though was the dessert, a selection of 3 desserts on a plate. Really decadent!
