Came across this Restaurant after visiting Olympia with two colleague's. The food and service was excellent... Granted there was a slight language barrier with one of the waitresses but the other one on duty was excellent and both where more than capable. The Food and complementary starter where really nice. Not bad, but not great either. This restaurant specialises in steak dishes, you can choose between three sizes for your steak and six ways how it should be cooked (from very rare to well-done, aka dead). The meat quality is better than average - but the steaks are not cheap. I paid £20.95 for a 300g (10.6 ounces) sirloin steak with a baked potato. A sauce (peppercorn, mushroom, cheese etc) costs extra. Salad costs extra, too, but you'll have access to a salad buffet. The steak was very well prepared, though I'd suggest that if you want medium rare, you'd order rare, medium rare if you want medium, and so on. The beer selection is not great. Fosters (Yuck!) is the "cheapest" on tap, 4.95 for a pint. The slightly better Heineken will cost you 5.25. All other beers are 330cl and bottled only. There's a wine selection, of course. The decor is a wee bit shabby, the furniture has seen better days. The waitress was efficient and friendly, but the owner, a middle aged grumpster, was hovering about without a word to any of the customers. Very unpleasant. Upon your visit you'll be given a voucher for 50% off your next steak dinner, starter and 1 side (like the baked potato) included. With that discount it is a good deal, without the voucher, it's .... Lunchtime Thursday with a Groupon I made a reservation for 1:30pm on a Thursday afternoon through the El Toro website's online booking system the day before dining, having purchased a £16 Groupon for a steak meal for two. The restaurant has a rather large facade and was easy to walk to from the Kensington (Olympia) railway station. There were only two occupied tables in the massive dining area, which was decorated above my expectations given other reviews. It was spunky and clean (good enough for me). We walked in and we just...kind of stood there. From behind a counter midway through the restaurant, a woman in her late 40's/early 50's waved us over. She asked if we had a booking, I said yes, and she pointed to a table along the wall for us to sit at. There goes the star that would've given you five, El Toro. We ordered: Ribeye steak with chips (Groupon), Sirloin steak with chips (Groupon), calamari, a coffee, and a glass of wine. Ok, three glasses of wine. Try not to judge--my friend was getting over a broken heart. It was a miracle I got her there to begin with. The ribeye: Ordered rare, came medium. It was close enough not to complain, and baby, it was so tender. Melt in your mouth tender. They could've given me a butter knife and I'd have had no problem cutting it--that good. Got the chimichurri sauce on the side, which was absolutely delicious. The sirloin: Ordered well done, came well done. Just as tender as the ribeye. The chilli sauce side was declared the condiment champion of the day. The chips: I'm an American, so these are what I call "steak fries." They were thick cut with a crispy outside, soft inside. Yum, yum. Next to the chips was a piece of lettuce, a tomato, a highly discoloured cucumber, and something else I couldn't pinpoint. I didn't try it (see cucumber description for reason why). The calamari: Hot, crisp, tasty, and served with a too small lemon wedge and a dipping cup of tartar sauce. I wouldn't have minded a second round of those. The coffee: In a cup slightly larger than an espresso, but really delicious. Definitely not Nescafe and with all the usual accoutrements (sugar, sweetener, milk). The wine: An Argentinian Rosé. I don't know how it was, I didn't have any. She seemed to like it--and really--after the first glass does it even matter? The damage: £16 for the Groupon, £36.15 for the calamari, coffee, wine, and service charge. Yes, service charge. I'm one of those loud mouthed American's who is quiet about tipping because I am used to it. I expect to tip regardless of the level of service because iz what we do. My friend of the non-American, British variety was too deep into the wine glass to care. £52.15 in total. In my opinion, this was a fare price for the food quality, service, and atmosphere. The service: The single hostess/waitress in the whole restaurant brought our food, cleared our plates, and came over smiling when we waved her for coffee, more wine, and the bill. Yes, we had to waive her--but who cares. She came and was polite and friendly. The verdict: I'd return with another Groupon. Would I go back and pay full price? Probably not. read more

When the first KGB Deal came out in the beginning of June '13, I was excited that a steak restaurant offered its 400gr rib eye in the deal instead of a paltry 8 ounce (220gr) minute steak. Don't be fooled! As soon as this deal went live, they changed their menu price so that only the 300gr steak qualifies for the deal. Am I being petty for losing 100grams of steak? Perhaps...but that's a quarter of my steak! That's like paying for a pint of beer and the bartender fills it 3/4 of the way up. Call me a pessimist! KGB customer services followed up on my complaint and promptly refunded me. So this isn't a food review since I refuse to support them, but try them and let us know if the food is worth the value. read more

I hate to give this place a 1 star as I have been eating here for years. But leaving Navid in charge is the main reason. We had two bookings on open table and two groupon vouchers. 2 groups of 4. We asked Navid if it was okay to sit together he said yes and brought the tables together. When we told him we had groupon he refused to take the bookings. Saying it's his rules he will only except one. He refused to check the open table booking clearly showing there were 2 bookings and did not seemed fussed to loose a booking when the restaurant was empty. I tried reasoning with him as this was a celebration for my birthday but Navid was not accommodating. I was looking forward a nice big ribeye and a bottle of Malbec. But while Navid is there you have lost a customer we will no longer be returning customers. read more

Terrible service! Went there for a dinner after work on Friday with a groupon. Even as a customer with a groupon I would still expect decent service, however during our meal the waiters came by multiple times to ask for our code. Interrupting our meal several times. And when we asked for the manager he started to argue with us regarding why we were dissatisfied??? Really??? I don't own a restaurant but have been to many and know poor service when I see it!! Won't never go again! No wonder it was pretty dead on a Friday night! Don't go not worth the hassle if you want a nice evening out to unwind or anytime. read more

The worst thing about this restaurant is that the waitress doesn't understand English well. We ordered 2 medium rare sirloin steaks with chips and salad with the dressing by the side. Although only 5 tables were occupied, it took them close to 20 minutes to deliver the food. When arrived, the steak was overcooked, chips were greasy and salad - just a few limp lettuce and a tomato came without the thousand island dressing. We asked the waitress for mustard and dressing. First she came back with bread, second time, she brought just mustard, third time oil & vinegar. Same happened with wine. She didn't understand our order and brought us the wrong one. My partner commented it was worse than Faulty Towers. People in the next table complained about the qulity of their food and left more than 1/2 on the plates. I went there with a friend on Thursday evening after having purchased a £16 Groupon for a steak meal for two. The place is about 10min walking distance from Hammersmith station and we managed to find it easy. On arrival i realised that i forgot to print my voucher...but the waitress seating us down took my voucher number instead to enter it to the system. Sorted!!! The place is big and it seamed bit dead. The decor is minimalistic...and i bet that that the place did see better days. We ordered some drink first, which arrived promptly, and the food. We started with Empanadas...which were delicious. Main stake and chips meal was also spot on. We ended up spending additional £20 each on top of the voucher....which is ok for a stake meal though be prepared to spend £35-40 if you don't don't have a groupon...and that doesn't include drinks. Reasons I only give it 3 stars: - The steak comes only with only salad or chips...so if you want both you have to order one as a side order...and £3 for some lettuce, slice of cucumber and tomato is bit too much in my opinion - the steak doesn't come with any sauces...so you have to order them separately - a thick smoke did spread out all over the restaurant while they were grilling the steaks and the smell was quite intense. My conclusion: in overall THE FOOD and the service were GREAT. Though i don't know if I would bother going there without the groupon voucher as there are plenty of places in London were I can get steak meal for bit less and in a place with a better vibe. read more

Two stars just really for the steak. It was succulent and tasty and no doubt really Argentinean given the number of Argentinian flags, floating around the place. Sadly, the place looked like place that has seen better days - the flowers in each table are all fake. They should consider providing sauces to come with the steak. With comes with a few salad - crudités style with a few chips. Waitress was Argentinian and welcoming. A friendly welcome is a big thing in my books. read more

I wanted to book a table for 2 pm using my Groupon voucher. The manager refused saying they only book until 1:30! Why? No reason given. "Just can't do it". So I went down to get a take away instead as I thought with this level of service that might be a better option! The chef initially refused saying cannot do takeaway using Groupon voucher even though the waitress told me it was ok on the phone. As he realised I was getting really pissed off by this time, the chef made the burgers. Straight out of the freezer. So much for Argentinian fresh meat. okay what can I say about this place that hasn't already been said as Rafaela stated above the steak really is unbelievable, especially for the money but as Lisa stated the decor is shall we say a little strange. I went there with a friend on a voucher with two meals each with sirloin steak for £20 normally the price would be £42. Firstly again as Rafaela said the waiting service is a little hit and miss, for example our waitress seemed confused when my friend asked pepper sauce, really quite an common accompaniment with good steak. The night we went on a Friday if I remember correctly the place was quite full and the service was quite speedy the decor as stated previously may not be to everyone's tastes but they have made a good effort in terms of the money they spent. One strange thing was the music I think on one occasion I went there they were playing a kind of Tango type stuff rather than Latino type beats which may not be to everyone's taste. The meal arrived quite quickly no problems with the presentation, drinks were reasonable and on one of the two occasions I went I had a starter of nachos with the usual accompaniments which was actually superb. All in all were it not for the service on one occasion this place would get five out of five if you're a steak lover it's well worth a visit. read more

Hi this is a great restaurant to have a fantastic steak! One of the waiter was not very helpful but thank God a waitress replaced him and everything ran smoothly. Seriously the meat is so juicy and tender it's unbelievable. Give it a try you won't regret it. The only reason I ve given 4 star instead of 5 it's because the waiter really had an attitude and didn't want to be there that night, but hey it's not my problem lol! read more

Myself and my lovely fiancee went there as we have been told the steak is amazing the best south american steak is what the restaurant claims on their card. The steak is indeed a winner, but unfortunately that was it. Maybe we just went on the wrong day but the restaurant was completely empty. The decor inside is very old but not in a cool vintage kind of way, it's really, really old and I'm sure the place would benefit from a nice restyle, it's not really a place where I would go again on a night out. Let's talk about the food. For starters we had empanadas (traditional savoury pastries) and meatballs in a very rich and spicy sauce. Nothing to die for, but tasty enough to be well happy about our choice. The star of the show was without a doubt the steak juicy, tender, perfectly cooked. No need to put any sauce on it as the meat tastes delicious as it comes. It's really a pity that the venue was empty maybe for this reason I notice even more the old furniture and decor insidemaybe if the venue was full it wouldn't have looked so depressing. I like to judge a restaurant not just for the food (which of course must be the first thing to be perfect) but also for the atmosphere and the whole experience. Yeah, I'm justifying myself cause I'm feeling kind of guilty to give them just 3 stars but it's a constructive criticism I hope, just renovate the place! ;) read more

We read all the reviews, but still went to El Toro because it was close to where we were staying, and we thought it was worth trying. First of all, the owner is not Argentinian. Strictly speaking, the menu is not Argentinian, either. It has some Argentinian items and some non-Argentinian items. We wanted to start with empanadas, but they had run out. So my wife started off with meatballs, which were delicious, and I started with "South American Goulash," which I knew it didn't exist, and the waitresses could not explain, other than "it is the South American variety, with beans," but by the description in the menu I figured it would be something similar to the Mexican "chili con carne." Well, when it finally came, I realized it was not "something similar," but exactly that: it was chili con carne. It was a little more watery than we were used to, and with less beans, but it tasted absolutely wonderful. Then I had the meat lasagna and my wife had the steak trio, consisting of a filet mignon, a sirloin steak and a rump steak. The filet mignon was very good, as was one of the other steaks, which we could not figure out whether it was the sirloin or the rump. The third unidentified one was somewhat hard and tasteless. Regarding the meat lasagna, it was there, average, neither bad nor excellent. It wasn't bad enough to regret having ordered it, but it wasn't the kind that you want to go back to order more of it. I also had a glass of Malbec wine from Finca La Vistosa, which was very good. In summary, I think I can give this place a rating of three stars. read more

I visited last week using a Groupon voucher for 2 courses. The service was good & prompt, I could tell the young lady was really making an effort. The place its self is dated and in need of a refurbishment, it reminded me of a cheap restaurant from the 80's. Or some tourist cafe in Spain. However, without the voucher this place is anything but cheap. My friend ordered the gamberoni, which consisted of 3 (yes 3!) small prawns floating in a bowl of tomato sauce & bread, if I was paying the full price of £5.45 for that I would of walked out! Our steaks were of a decent size though they were way over cooked, we asked for medium rare and got fully cooked. I watched the chef cooking them and he was constantly flipping them over - that's not how you cook steak! One flip is all it takes. The side of vegetables was laughable - it consisted of one small leaf of savoy cabbage, half a carrot and 15 peas (I counted). We didn't order wine so can't comment on that. Also a 10% service charge is added If the aim of offering a Groupon deal was to attract more customers to El Toro they have failed, I won't be back. read more

One of the most mediocre restaurants ever. Its such a shame, as its a great location and had so much promise, but the service is so amatuer that it is embarrassing. Rude, surley waitress who doesnt feel the need to smile and either hovers around you obtrusively or disappears completely, the food is way below average, you can get a better burger from mcdonalds. Absolutely perfect, mouth-watering steak. Cooked rare and beautiful and OH my gosh it was good--I wanted a second steak when I was finished with my first! The interior is lousy and could definitely use a lot of sprucing up, but if you're more concerned with the taste of your food and the politeness of the people serving you than you are about the environment you're looking around in while you wait to eat, it's definitely worth checking out.
