Two Big thick pieces of tender liver cooked just right covered with grilled caramelized onions. Damn this brought back memories. The plate was some big I couldnt eat it all. The pan fried liver was cooked just right with that little bit of char and tender in the middle. Reminded me of home. I always like to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to restaurants but this place is just no Bueno. Bathroom was horrific, flies everywhere dirty place. I didn't even want to sit down to eat to be honest, but there's only so many options in that town. I had one of their burgers - had one bite, spit it out and just couldn't finish it. Off Main Street in Torrington. This cafe is easy to access and has very welcoming staff. Tonight was "seat yourself". Multiple dining areas, so plenty of room to sit privately or with others. We ordered the 16 oz ribeye medium rare with Bleu cheese sauce on the side. The steak was delicious and tender. A side salad and baked potato with butter and sour cream completed our meal. If we are back in town will definitely return. read more

Deacons We had the bbq brisket, I had mine naked (no bread). It was two pieces of thinly sliced brisket with bbq on top. I also had cheeseburger soup, I can't deny, it was pretty good. The place needs a good cleaning. It could also use some new furniture. There were quite a few dirty tables. Maybe they should be shown, when you go to the table stuff in your hand, you leave a table with stuff in your hands. Sydney and Carrie were nice enough but Carrie messed up our payment, now she knows how to fix it. I'm NOT sure if I'd go back. read more

My husband and I have eaten here before and enjoyed it. We came back today and thought we may be in time for breakfast but even though we were there right before 11 was told they stopped serving. This was fine with us we decided to look at the lunch menu. Finding nothing that we really wanted we decided we would simply pay for our drinks and take them with us. When we told Lindsey our waitress she got short with us and said that's fine no worries and walked away. We tried to tell her as she was walking away that we wanted to take our drinks and pay for them and she again said no worries and left. Unfortunately she had a really bad attitude so we left our drinks on the table and as we were leaving I mentioned that we had wanted to take the drinks and pay for them. I told her she had been rude. I also asked what her name was and she repeated it twice including telling me she was the boss. Needless to say we will never be returning to this restaurant. read more

Love going to hometown diners and this is one of the best I've been in. My wife and I stayed overnight in town and went to Deacons for breakfast and it was so good! I had the country skillet with home fried potatoes and it came out perfect. The portion size was right and the potatoes were crispy and covered with meat, veggies and cheese. I had sourdough toast and my wife had pancakes with her Denver skillet. The sourdough bread rivaled what you find in San Francisco and the pancakes were light, fluffy and had a hint of vanilla. My wife doesn't usually like pancakes, but she couldn't get enough. We definitely went away full and wish we lived closer because this would be regular customers. Highly recommended! read more

We've eaten here many times for breakfast which was pretty good, but lunch today left much to be desired. Salad bar was good, my husband ordered a rib eye steak which was OK, but nothing else on the plate & still charged an extra $5 for the 1 trip salad bar, so $28 for just a steak. I ordered a patty melt with onion rings - the rings tasted like the cheap frozen ones you can buy at the store and the burger like a frozen job with no flavor. Very disappointed in the new menu. They used to have excellent meat... now not so much. The service was very slow. My husband used to be able to get a beer, but no longer. Don't think we will hurry back. read more

We have dined at this restaurant many times in the past and today's visit was a big disappointment. The service left a lot to be desired and the food was worse. The mashed potatoes and gravy were cold and the liver was very dry, possibly because it was sliced so thin. My wife had a so-so hot beef, also with cold gravy. Stopped over in Torrington on our way to Denver. I think we caught them on a bad night. We arrived at 7:15pm. I ordered the prime rib special and my husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Each came with one side and a soup or salad. We were informed they were out of mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, steamed vegetables and there was no au jus for the prime rib. Sadly they didn't tell us this until after we ordered. Waitresses were friendly. Staff was nice. I am hoping it was just an off night. BTW - there is a 3.5% credit card usage fee so make sure you have cash. Two dinners with no drinks, just water with tip was over $50. :-( read more

Tried this place 4 times in 2 months, hit and miss. Two meals were spot-on and perfect, the staff are wonderful and very friendly. Two meals were total misses - a grilled cheese with cold cheese in the center and scorched earth bread, and another time where the waitress asked the chef to drop one more fry and he screamed at her, "You don't need to come back here to tell me to do my job just tell me to drop one more fry!" to the point the joint could hear it. The staff are quite wonderful, in this stressful time I'd say check this place out but order very standard fare. Plus, they'll serve you a beer at 7am...which is amazing. Went in for breakfast my husband had stuff floating in his coffee and then when we got our food there was a hair on his plate asked for the check due to this let waitress know and she freaked out and told us to leave was very rude and unprofessional. We offered to pay but she was inconsiderate of the situation so we just left. Never in my life have I been treated so rudely over a simple mistake that could of been fixed. Not many non-fast food chain choices in this small town. We were greeted warmly and sat ourselves. I got a burger with caramelized onions and blue cheese and seasoned fries with a side salad. Both the burger & fries were cooked really well. The only think I didn't like is that the salad came out just 90 seconds before our burgers. I would've liked that sooner. read more

If I was rating the service, it would be 5 stars. The waitstaff was amazingly attentive. If I was rating cleanliness, it would be 1 at best. The flies were more plentiful than customers, and it was actually fairly full on a Saturday night. Most tables were dirty too. The food was hit or miss. The Mandarin Chicken Salad was just a mix of pre-packaged items, and that was a signature item. However, other items like the Steak Salad, cornbread, baked potato, and soups were all great. So in the end, I think that it averages out to 2 stars. We were just passing through, but if I could come back, I would probably try another restaurant. read more

We stopped in on the way to Custer, SD. When we went in, we noticed a fly. No biggie. It happens. But after we ordered there was definitely a fly issue. A man at another table had probably 10 on his back. My southern mother would not let us leave because we already ordered. We told the waitress and she let us move to a different room and *here's where it gets unbelievable* she gave my husband a fly swatter. He took the job seriously and killed 15 flies. It was crazy. All while we waited for food. When it arrived, my son was too freaked out by the flies and went out on a walk. My mother ate her salad and said it was great. All the food looked good but what was the kitchen like? The waitress said she was waiting for the place to clear out so she could spray. I don't see what you can spray in a restaurant. There was a salad bar. (We didn't get that) We're not from this part of the country, so maybe it's normal. I would say if you go in, pause before you sit and look around. Being from this area originally I have been able to enjoy Deacons on several occasions. After I got married I would bring my husband home and somehow we never went to Deacons. Recently I took him to Deacons for his first experience. He now is mad that I never took him here before. The menu has an excellent selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This restaurant's atmosphere is cozy and very diner like. The waitstaff is polite and the owners know what this community tastes and serves them well. They are able to introduce excellent seafood selections in an area that is very landlocked (big plus). So, if you find yourself at the crossroads of highways 26 and 85, stop in and give this excellent local diner a try. It's a gem. read more

Found this little gem as we drove up Hwy. 85 in Wyoming. Everything looked and smelled wonderful. I seriously considered the special--beef stew with a biscuit--but as I was driving, didn't want to eat a heavy meal. I had the BIT which had an ample amount of bacon (although it was a bit tough, maybe left over from breakfast? Would have preferred fresh cooked.) and not too much bread. My sister had the soup of the day, beef noodle and vegetable. Very tasty. Noodles were perfectly cooked and nice chunks of beef. They served good, wholesome food.
