We arrived while the tide was low and crossed over to the island, and what an amazing view it was. It was fantastic, but don't stay too long or miss when the tide is coming back, or you might have a hard time getting back and get soaked. If you haven't visited, do yourself a favor and enjoy!

At the end of August, Long Beach Day is held with a host of family fun activities for the kids to enjoy and the adults to bring out their competitive sides for wheel barrow racing, 3 legged racing etc... And one thing that makes me happy, happy... is my departure from Boston on a summer Friday @ 5.30pm and arriving at the beach in Rockport by 6.15/6.30 max... It beats the trip south to the Cape, hands down...

I usually only come here if I'm planning a trip to see my friends in Newburyport ;) Not sure how much the parking is; I park at a friend's house. Very calm beach ONLY THING IS, avoid going in the month of July, OR be very careful of the greenhead flies! They are everywhere here during that month & their bites hurt lol. Not sure if greenheads are only specific to this beach in particular, however, I've only really ever experienced this here.

A stroll down the beach offered some very cool finds and the views of the cliffs are awesome. You'll have to get here by car, bike or taxi. The road is marked no mopeds allowed. Tip!!! If you take a taxi, make a designated time for them to come back for you. We were here during the summer of 2020 and due to Covid there were a lot less taxi drivers available. We later realized a prearranged pick up time would've been better than trying to call for a taxi and having a slight anxiety attack because it's an hour walk back to town and no one is answering! Lol! This is a beach person beach as there is no concession stand. The only major downside is no facilities so you know everyone is peeing in the water. I try to not think about that and in the end I truly had the best day of summer 2020 at this beach!!

Even with the sun setting, the water was surprisingly comfortable and we were able to swim without freezing too badly. DCR official was clearly stoned and gave some excuse about how the higher ups told him not to enforce the rules. No one stopped or did anything. Would avoid except off season and early in the morning. It's gross.

Parking pass for weekends/holidays is $45. It used to be $30/day in previous years. Any time after 5pm, parking is free, so you could definitely come to just chill & watch the sunset. It's smaller than the other beaches in the area (i.e. Good Harbor Beach, Crane Beach, Plum Island, etc) but nothing can beat the white sand & clear, clean water here! The sand is free of annoying rocks & just feels like walking on marshmallows! Now, they have a separate parking lot for Non-Gloucester residents, that is a short walk from the entrance to the beach, while residents are able to park in the main lot closer to the beach entrance. Note: bathrooms & showers are open until 6pm daily.

That said, there were a few frustrating parts of the experience. If you're not a Gloucester resident, parking is $48, which is quite expensive. Even though I had a reservation, I was directed to the farthest parking lot, about a half-mile walk from the beach. There were plenty of open spots in the resident parking area, but we still weren't allowed to park there. The food and beach shop were also very pricey, so I'd recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks if you can. Overall, it's a great beach, but be prepared for high parking fees, a longer walk, and expensive concessions.
