Mmmm, purses made of colorful animals. Okay, so if you are in PETA, don't read this. If you are a lover of all things leather, then read on. I happen to dig leather goods, and dig leather even more when they are on their second time around as a cool piece. Dean definitely delivers on that tip. They have purses made of old leather jackets, so each one is totally unique and will feature a neat random pocket here and there and it really makes their stuff super cute. The colors of the leather here are also to die for. The greens (oh that perfect light green!!), the grayish blues and the ass kicker reds, just scrumptious! The styles are also all over the size map, so if you are looking for a small little girlie bag or a big mama power tote, chances are they will have it. If a bookbag type of sling is more your game, then you are covered too! They also have bags for men and women, along with a nice line of accessories and even watches. The prices aren't super cheap, but the quality of the goods is definitely high end, so for that special splurge on an item that will make your entire look sing, I highly recommend a stop in here! read more

I came in here a few years ago with my sister and got a Dean bag. (I also got a little leather key chain with it, gratis.) It's a little hand bag in turquoise with a brown strap. The bags aren't lined, but there's something really nice about them, anyway. My first one had some stitching come loose, so I sent it back to my sister, who lives in LA, she took it to Dean and they replaced it with a new one, identical to the old one, except without the loose stitching. :-) The bag has aged beautifully and was worth the money. I still get compliments on it! Their styles and color selections are amazing... I also bought some wrist bands when I was there, which I love. Yes, I feel guilty buying leather. Especially since I don't even eat much beef these days. But there's something about good leather bags that I just can't resist!! read more

Gene needed a "man-bag" in Silver Lake. the Latigo leather messenger bag (in eight different shades) that would look smart on you whether you're going on a job interview or running errands. well, in LA--- it's OK for dudes to have man purses (messenger bag). lol. the selections were brilliant, i was impressed and quite amused of the bag collections they feature. yes, i love my designer bags, but something about this store screams chic and better yet... lifetime warranty. not really on the warranty, but you know it's going to last a long time. their leather-band watches are hot. i think that's the best feature of the whole store! i would sooo buy that for a guy. =) well... myself, too. lol read more

I first checked out Dean with a friend of mine last year. They were slow so we asked a lot of questions about bag sizes, leather quality, etc. While the clerk was nice, he was not nearly as enthusiastic as he should have been given we were the only ones in the store. My friend ultimately made a purchase, but still we left feeling as thought they did us a favor by selling her a bag. Anyway, I stumbled onto the store's Yelp listing this week while looking for local leather repair specialists. I need to have a cushion on my leather sofa repaired (possibly recovered) and while I'm aware that Dean may NOT actually be able to repair my cushion, I at least hoped they could offer a recommendation. After all, according to everyone on Yelp - and the store - leather IS their specialty. So, I called the store twice during business hours and no one picked up. I then sent an email, to which I've gotten no reply. I really don't like giving negative feedback to local businesses because I know how hard they have to compete against larger, and often cheaper, retailers. But for me, customer service speaks volumes. How you're treated can make or break whether or not you buy an item, return to the store or recommend them to friends. I'm totally okay with Dean not being in the business to repair leather (I'm actually still unsure since I've not gotten a response from the store), but it takes 5 minutes to reply to an email and can make the difference between gaining, or losing, a new customer. read more

If this company were owned by a woman, she would put a lining in the products. Because the purses and goods have no lining, they are less practical than other designer bags. They also have no interior compartments, for the most part. I think the hipper-than-thou female sales rep could try to smile or lose the 'tude a little. i was on a mission to find the perfect tote. i travel alot and love bags with space and functionality that will let me go, go, go! i fell in love with this navy soft leather tote with a beautiful brown circular handle. the sides folds in when you hold it... oh so cute! it also comes with an amazing wide leather strap so you can sport the messenger bag look as well! love that feature! ok, so i thought the bag was enough... nope! i had to get the cuff watch. such a unique look with it's wide cuff with a smaller leather band with a watch face located to the side. not only does this place have THE most amazing bags the customer service rocks! i'm completely in love with my dean accessories..... i'm in love! go check them out FOR SURE! Updated post: Went back and got a great brown studded cuff bracelet and an delicious grey "fanny pouch" with brown straps that wrap around your waist then over the shoulder. I discovered DEAN from a friend. I borrowed her purse once and knew I had to have one for myself! I was a firefighter for 17 years, never got used to carrying a purse, so this was my first "big girl" purse. I called and spoke to Oscar. He was so helpful. I placed my custom order, he told me he was working on that style "today" and that he would probably make it that day! When it arrived, it was love at first sight! I use it daily, but nice enough to go out and look chic. Fast forward about a year, I finally made it down to Silver Lake! I had to see/smell/touch this place first hand! I had the pleasure to meet Oscar first hand, he was lovely! They are true craftsmen here! I believe they make everything I do plan on buying more pieces from DEAN.... When I first entered Dean, I didn't really care much for women's purses. In fact, I only carried canvas bags around town because I found 'real purses' to be too fussy. But when I met Dean everything changed and I soon realized that I do like women's bags, if they're Dean bags. Shape and color combine to create a one of a kind bag. I also like that they make purses in really brilliant bright colors, along with more traditional browns and blacks. I can't say how many compliments I've received from the two bags I own, but I know that carrying a purse doesn't mean you have to shell out $600 for a status symbol. ABOUT THE BAG: I love my big black recycled leather dean handbag with the gorgeous fushia suede lining and throw everything you think you just might need for the day including your mini-umbrella size and cute used to be jacket pocket but is now the perfect spot for my keys so i don't need to dig around space on the front. And it's the sort of unique that you know you'll see no one else carrying but everyone will be asking where you got it and you don't mind telling because it's so one of a kind. read more

When the strap on my thrift store purse broke after one month of use, I decided to finally get a decent, well-made handbag. I live within walking distance of Dean and had stopped in the shop many times to admire their finely crafted leatherwork, but was always a bit too low on finances to consider a purchase. This time I decided that the cash outlay would be worth it if the purse lasted for years. The sales clerk was very helpful, explaining how they recycled leather jackets to make some pieces, showing me various sizes of handbags, talking about the quality and fine stitching, and trying to work with my budget. To my delight, there was a purse that wound up in the clearance bin because it is an odd shape that fit me and my budget perfectly! I left the store pleased and am even more pleased as I've gotten a ton of compliments on my handbag! read more
