Second stop on all girls valentines weekend. We were greeted and carded, (which I love by the way) by the most beautiful exotic man working the door, his name escapes me now. I ordered a Moscow mule and the girls were drinking champs. We mentioned we were from out of town and they made us their signature shots that taste like a warm apple pie, so delicious. The 4 of us girls were checked on the entire night the place was packed!! The gentleman that was the bouncer was also working inside. I whispered to him that there was a man harassing me, please protect me. The man was very intoxicated and was not served. Mad props first of all for that!! So beautiful exotic gentleman bouncer went into action, he took all of our purses, (to help us move our stuff) and said go sit in the elevator now (if you don't know they have this elevator that is the 3rd oldest in the country that is now a sitting area) he got the guy out and kept us safe. We closed the place down, and I cannot wait to go back to Houston. As 4 girls going out feeling safe, and having a great experience, atmosphere and yummy cocktails is a top priority. The owner or main manager (ponytail and glasses) even was very kind about announcing last call, unlike most places you go. This Houston stop made this San Diego girl feel so welcome. The bartender was rude and pretentious and for a place that touts craft cocktails; I would say our drinks were average at best. The sazerac was overly sweet and the Collins was bitter. Better places within walking distance. read more

Super chill spot with a great happy hour. They have big comfy couches,games, and reasonably priced drinks for big groups. Also the bartenders made a great spread of appetizers including homemade hummus that was available for anyone in the bar that was drinking - free snacks are a home run if you ask me. I loved this place! The decor is amazing and it's pretty small but these kind of bars are right up my alley. It was not overcrowded and it didn't take 5 minutes to get a drink. They're were 2 female bartenders here and they were a bit snobby. A couple of people that I was with tried to order a shot of Yager and a shot of Don Julio, but they didn't have either of these. Apparently they don't carry these types of liquor? I'm not too sure but I'm not going to let that ruin my review. Byron, the door guy was the BEST! as we were just about to leave he took the time to tell us some of the history of the place. I'm all about creepy history stories. Byron even took the time to give us a little tour and showed us the old shaft elevator it was so cool! Honestly Byron alone probably kicked this review up 2 stars. Thanks B!! I stopped by late on a Thursday night. They had a live DJ. It was way too loud for the size of the place. We couldn't have a conversation. Tried to hang out on the patio but being pestered by the homeless and cigarette smoke made it unenjoyable. read more

Walked by and saw the sign that said happy hour from 5-10 pm and decided to give this place a try. We should have gone to the next bar when we saw how empty the place was but we wanted give this place a chance. Sat down at the bar and asked about happy hour only to find out that there's no happy hour on Saturday...why advertise happy hour on the board outside? There's plenty of bars in Houston. I'm not one to leave a review. This is actually the first time I feel the need to post my experience at a bar. The whole feel of the bar is great, the music selection was on point. Walked in to Big K.R.I.T. playing and they even played some Lupe Fiasco!!! I went to the bar with my Girlfriend and a group of friends to celebrate something real special to me. The staff was friendly and professional, I wish I remembered the bartender's name. He was a tall white male with dread locks if a remember correctly. This place wowed me on its service. The bar was knowledgable and attentive, eager to please. Donald was a crowd favorite and we will return to see him. He was on point with recommendations, and our drinks confirmed that; they were delicious. Furthermore, what really caught our attention was the staff's attention to detail. For example, the moment we sat down at an outside table the door man was there in an instant to empty the ash tray to accommodate us. Dean's Downtown is an awesome place to hang out! My fiancé proposed to me this past December there; it was a memorable moment and I couldn't have been happier that he decided to ask me to marry him at Dean's! Very personable bartender named Lolie. The only bar crowd which immediately made me feel welcome in downtown Houston. The appearance is inviting with upbeat background music. I stopped in on a dead Tuesday evening downtown for some local craft beer / happy hour specials. No food but the bartender recommended a couple close options and suggested I bring my carry out back to eat. The entertainment was minimal with only a few board games. I heard other nights of the week are filled with live bands and karaoke. There is no TV but the bartender did say a vintage / movie night was being discussed. Reminded me of a bar in New Orleans I enjoy which does the same played directly on a old plaster wall. When I am in town for business again I will defiantly stop in. read more

In town for work and got Deans as a recommendation from locals. Matt behind the bar was awesome at making the specialty drinks and answering questions. I love the atmosphere of this bar - dim lighting and cozy couches. It's a great place to bring a date if you're in the area. I also love the fact that they have games you can play - Connect Four, Jenga, Catch Phrase and a few others. The drinks were good and the service was attentive. There were a couple of downsides to this bar, however. The music playing was 80s and not my personal preference. I don't recall what time we were at the bar, as we were hopping around, but perhaps they switch it up at different times or different nights. Also, the bar next door had a rock/punk band playing and it was very loud, to the point where the staff at Dean's had to keep turning up the music inside their bar. I don't fault them for that, as that's not something they can control, but the music was just too loud to talk after a while. It's unfortunate they have neighbors that kill their vibe. That wouldn't stop me from coming back, because I love the ambiance so much. read more

To start off the bartender was rude. I asked for recommendations on a light and fruity drink since I wasn't planning to get drunk but just to loosen up. She pointed at the drink menu and looked annoyed. Instead I happily said thank you and browsed through the menu. I asked again for a light and fruity drink and she recommended a drink that ended up tasting really watered down. I ordered two for my sister and I and a jack and coke for my brother. She didn't make any eye contact when serving me the drinks and just threw the ticket to me without acknowledging me. The ticket came out $28 and I did not tip because of how arrogant she was. We left half an hour later and went to the bar down the street which was so much more fun and drinks were better. Later that night when I got home I realized Dean's charged me an extra $20 on my tab...are you kidding me? How is that possible? Rude, messy and now even stealing our money! Great. I'm giving it a 2 star because of an experience at this bar. I was alone in the restroom and a guy knocked on the door, said he was the owner and asked if the bathroom was in good condition. I was washing my hands by that time and told him I was almost done. He comes in as I'm drying my hands and I felt so uncomfortable and quickly got out. Well I'm glad he was who he said he was (I checked) but he should have send in a female employee to check for him. I felt so uncomfortable ...it was just a little frightening to have a man walk in to a woman's RR. I can't help to feel how I feel. Anyway the drinks and music were really good, if you're wondering about that. And I get it I was a business owner myself , but I think he should've handled that differently. read more
