Went here for the first time while participating in the St. Arnold's pub crawl in honor of 713 Day. Loved the venue at Dean's. Awesome vibe. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because of the bar service. The bartender was very rude to my wife. We were ordering 9 drinks for our group and he acted like we were bothering him. He was then rude to my friend. Bottom line is we will go back there but if that idiot is behind the bar, we will walk out! read more

I didn't know this place existed as I am not a frequent downtown person. I avoid downtown as the parking is horrible and usually there are a ton of homeless peeps. We came here after El Big Bad and I'm so glad I did. The drinks were great and the environment was happening. I definitely want to come back here and try out the other drinks. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because there was definitely a creeper at the bar who was trying to hit on me and get me to meet him the next Saturday. I had seen that he was sitting at the bar by myself and had another drink next to his. 20ish minutes after my friends and I ordered at the bar, we went to sit down at one of the couches and he followed us. He offered me that drink that had been sitting there and I immediately LEFT the bar after that. Who knows what he could've put in there. Happy hour until 8p, Monday-Friday! The late happy hour definitely got me in the door. I drank a Moscow Mule, it was decent but nothing to go crazy over. There are a few seats outside. I did notice the bar tender go out to check on them which was nice. It was really quiet on an early Thursday night. I also over heard that they were hosting 2 happy hour parties on Friday. Good to keep in mind for any work events. They were also preparing for and getting excited for Pride weekend. Always nice to know a business supports human rights! read more

Nicely lit bar with reservoir dogs playing on the big screen. I don't know what it was about me in particular, but I couldn't get a drink for 30 minutes. A nice barback took pity on me and made me four old fashioneds which were just four cups of whiskey with an orange peel. Still charged me 40$. Been going to bars for 9 years across the states I've lived in, and I've never felt so grossly ignored. Embarrassing because my friends who I was buying drinks for came up around me and were served before me. Far better bars along Main Street. It was my third time here, so maybe it was an isolated event. Regardless I won't be coming here again. read more

July Pub Crawl with 30+ people: BRAVO! The feedback from our Downtown Appreciation Group was all positive. The drinks were dead-on and the staff was prepared for us. Its always clean and is one of the few that can house such a large group. We especially like the outdoor seating option for the smokers. The only tiny addition I'd like to see is fewer sofas replaced by single seating. (Just from a designer's perspective as well as a hostess of a regular Pub Crawl event with a large number of people) read more

The bar scene downtown has really improved over the last couple years. Especially with the Super Bowl coming to town, development will only continue. We had dinner at a food truck right outside Dean's and they were so nice as to let us sit down and eat at their tables even though we hadn't bought anything. Nice gesture on their part and we returned there later that night. Nick cocktail menu, it's just that nothing really stands out to me about Dean's. Cool lounge/bar...parking isn't fun. I think peeps should Uber there since it's on Main and will never park close enough. I'm sure street parking is somewhere but I just saw Uber as a more convenient way. Also, it's a bar and you will likely have drinks. Uber for safety. read more

Quick after work bar-hop, stop #2. This little hipster spot might be a cool spot with a better crowd. There were only a few people in the place and there was a band that was setting up (check one, check two, sibilance). Cool lounge seating that is more antique than modern...but really, just hipster. Great drinks for a fair price. Sofas inside and out. Not so much seating space but if you get there early enough, it's perfect. Service was great. I work nearby downtown and have my favorite spots off Main Street. Ever since the sweetest barback Karma started working there Deans is now one of my go to dives. Her spunky positive vibes are always welcoming when I come in to hide away or for a quick cocktail. Such a speedy female barback I have to give her the best props. If you're looking for a cool bar with hole in the wall tendencies then look no further. Dean's took an old clothing store and kept its charm. Think custom clothier with liquor instead of tweed. They even turned the old elevator into a speak easy room -- we all know that's where the gossip occurs anyway. Great spot. Close to everything. Worth a try. read more

My wife and I are in town for the weekend so we asked a local for a fun pub/bar to go hang out at for a few cocktails . He suggested Deans of course ! What a great suggestion and fun night . The staff is awesome and ambience and tunes add to the welcoming feel. Bartenders were very friendly here. I believe his name was Bobby. He made great suggestions for me and for my husband when they did not have his Scotch of choice. We came in with a fairly large group, celebrating Birthday's & doing a Bar Crawl. There was more than ample seating for us, which was great. Hubby loved the Patio out front where he could enjoy his Cigars. The lady bartender was also gracious & let us bring in Pizza from Frank's because we were starving & they don't serve any food. She said she didn't care what we brought in to eat as long as we were drinking LOL ....and that we did ! The other Patrons in the bar were friendly too & a great time was had by all. This place has the best Old Fashions in the city, hands down! I've put veteran whiskey drinkers to the taste test. After concluding our Old Fashion tour, the group was at a consensus, that Dean's took the crown. In addition to the delicious drinks, the staff is incredibly fun and friendly. I had a pretty good time at Deans. I got invited to go for a birthday party and it turned out to be a pretty nice event. I would for sure go again if I was invited, but probably not on my own. The music was pretty good, it was a playlist that someone had on their iPhone, when songs would replay, you could see them run over the I home and change the song. Regardless, the mix was pretty good and the sound was nice. The bar area was clean and it was easy to get too. There wasn't too much crowding and it seemed to always be a few empty seats, that's always nice. The drinks to me were just okay, they had a really nice selection of 5 and 6 dollar craft and local drinks which is always really nice. I love that the drinks are craft!! The thing I didn't love, was my bar tender. He clearly had a few of friends there and was casually taking shots and talking to them. Not that there's any problem with bar tenders enjoying their friends or regulars, but when everyone else has to wait because their doing triple shots and making their drinks a priority, that kind of puts a damper no the night. Also, there were random people going to the back of the bar and making drinks, when we asked them to make us a drink, they quickly assured us that they don't work there and would get in trouble if they were to serve us a drink -__- , that's the first time I've ever heard anything like that or even seen someone go to a bar that they don't work at, hang out with the bartender and make themselves a drink. Other then what was going on behind the bar, everything else was cool. The vibe is nice, its pretty chill, you don't have to get all dressed up. Everyone is nice and you don't feel the need to impress someone or that you're going to be followed around all night by someone that wants your number. So, like I said, I would go again if I was invited, but I probably wouldn't request to go myself. I think everyone should give it a shot though. read more

Great revamp of an old classic. I've been a patron of this place when it was a hot spot back in the party night life days of down town in the early 2000s and years after when it became more of a dive bar that was more like it's sister bar Notsuoh. That being said, I love what the new owners have done with the place. The cool and enlarged photos pay respect to some of Houston's history. The decor is trendy and classy. The specialty cocktail menu is great and the lay out of the space just has an all around great vibe. I wouldn't expect anything less from owners that have over 60 years in the bar business combined. Come see what experience has to offer. P.S. If you're on a date and want to get some privacy and it's available, they actually have turned what was Houston's first elevator into a pretty cool booth. The booth is not polished and overly swanky but has tons of character. You gotta check it out. read more

I use to come here when there were no name punk bands playing in the window, clothes still hanging along the walls, and the smell of cat urine lingered the building. Now it's this kind of hipster & kind of swanky mixture. I love it. The bartenders aren't really helpful and they like to help those that look "cute" first, but I like the ample amount of seating and the cute elevator that you can hide away in. We usually end our night in downtown here because there are seats to rest our feet and it's usually very chill. Great clean up job Dean's. read more
