Fried chicken sandwich & fries
Arie T.

The sauce on the fried chicken sandwich was very good. Nice neighborhood spot with very reasonable prices.

Another dc hidden gem. Though in an obscure place, the atmosphere and staff are nice. It's not your typical take out spot. The outdoor patio is grand and has a lot of seating. You will need your bug spray as the flies and mosquitos are present. The wings were reasonable size and saucy ! The fish sandwich was flaky and tasty. The crab cake was large and definitely no filler added. & lastly the chicken sandwhich was just as saucy as the wings. I love how large the portions were for such reasonable prices.

I've based this spot a few times and remember thinking how nice the outside was. I finally decided to give it a try over the weekend. I was sold when I found out it is affiliated with MLK Deli. It was maybe less than an hour before closing when I went but you would never know. The customer service was great from start to finish. She even brought our food outside to us when it was ready. I think they are in a high visibility area and I was surprised to see there's plenty of parking along the side of the building and seating outdoors. I can see this being a nice, chill spot to enjoy when the weather is warm again. I ordered the Parker's Fried Chicken Sandwich and fries. The sandwich was delicious and the sweet chili mumbo sauce complimented it well. My mother ordered a club sandwich and she said she really enjoyed it. I'm definitely going back. The price point was great, customer service was excellent and the food was delicious.

This was our 1st time trying Deanwood Deli. We learned while standing in line that this deli is only a year and 1 month old based on today's date, Friday, August 30, 2024. This deli is small so you'll have to take your food to go or you can sit outside at the tables when the weather is nice. The service was fast but on the other hand the man that took our order was a complete dust off for me. What I mean by that is, his attitude was not friendly. His attitude reads like "I'm just doing this because I have to pay bills." He didn't smile, make conversation, make suggestions, or anything. The most he said was, "You ordered the best sandwich." It seemed as though he was flustered when we told him that our daughter doesn't eat certain items, so, 86 the mayo and tomato. Our baby usually eats her sandwiches and burgers plain with nothing on them but the meat and cheese. So for her to take only 2 things off is growth for her. LoL! The lemonade is disgusting!! *GaG!* I was going back to get something else to drink but my husband gave me his Pepsi to drink and he drank the lemonade. All in all, it was good. I've had much better food at other restaurants. It's worth a 1 time try if you're in the area.

Y'all know @mlkdeli right? I reviewed them a while back. Guess what? Now they got a Deanwood Deli in the Deanwood area of Northeast D.C. of course!! This was their Grand Opening so the menu was limited so LET'S GO!! . Where I am: @deanwooddeli . Location Reviewed: @deanwooddeli . Menu Includes: Fish, Fried Chicken,Turkey, Club, Salmon Cakes, Rueben's, Ham, Beef, Tuna, & Chicken Salad Sandwiches. Flavored Wings, Wraps, Salads, Fried, Chips, Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Fruit Cups, Beverages, & MORE!! . Items Reviewed: Their Sweet Chili Mumbo Wings (5 wings doused in mumbo sauce $8). STAMP!! Crispy, with a sweet & spicy mumbo sauce!! . Their Fries ($5). LIKE THAT! A mix between a curly, & steak fry cut, hot, crunchy but soft, & tasty!! . Their Jive Turkey Sandwich (with turkey breast, king sauce, cheddar, lettuce, & tomato $8.50). DELICIOUS! It was good, a toasted bun, & flavored well. . Their 1/4 lb Crab cake Sandwich (lump crab, lettuce, & tomato on a brioche bun *market price* $20). STAMP!! No filler, well seasoned, and thick!! . Their 1/4 lb 8" Beef Hot Dog (with house made chili, cheddar cheese, on a warmed bun $4.50). STAMP!! The BEST hot dog I've ever had!! I'm super excited about this addition to the neighborhood! We went during their soft opening, so the menu was limited. We tried Freda's fish sandwich (crispy, cooked to perfection, light and tasty), 1/4 lb crab cake (A LOT of real crab. no fillers, well seasoned), Glizzyy hotdog with chili and cheese (huge, tasty, real meat in the chili) and habanero wings (crispy, juicy, nice kick). We enjoyed everything! My favorite was the fish sandwich, but I can see myself ordering all of these items again. PROS: Good tasty food with quality ingredients, service was friendly and efficient, food was well packaged, place is aesthetically pleasant. CONS: No seating for dining in, wish they had jalapeños! No diet sodas available. Overall our experience was great and we plan to return to try other items.

I wanna just say I'm so glad something like this is around in the area that is in, you can't really find good quality lunch foods that has the options that deanwood has to offer. I got the fish sandwhich and first off very beautiful and impressive piece of fish it was I believe cod given its texture and look. The brioche bun and fresh lettuce and tomato also pair nicely with it sort of wish now it had maybe some red onion slices on top as well. The only problem I really feel that could make this sandwich better was a little more seasoning. If this fish was dredged in a mixture of some old bay, Cajun or even lemon pepper seasoning it would elevate this sandwich to a whole new level. It was just to bland and all I tasted was the lettuce and tomato and the bun. I added more tartar sauce and hot sauce and it just didn't do much. Once again the quality and freshness and presentation is only one of the reasons I'm coming back to possibly try out the whole menu if possible lol they sell everything that I crave on a daily basis when it comes to eating a good lunch/dinner so I'm eager to go back and give other things on the menu a try. Also the outside seating and building is really nice I'm sure summer time people flocked to hang there and eat their food right outside. Maybe if they put heaters people won't mind doing it as winter is approaching but either way very nice set up they have going on.

Salad w salmon cake

The salmon cake was buttery & flaky; lowkey the best one I've had in a hot min. Be warned if you sit outside tho- you will get eaten alive by mosquitos

Club sandwich was 10/10

Classic crab cake sandwich. And very DC- sandwiches as historical reflection and testament to both Washingtonian creativity and tradition

This food is so so good! The wings are some of the best in the area. The fist sandwich is outstanding. I'd love to see more options added.

I ordered a combination lunch/dinner with Oxtails, Curry Shrimp, rice & peas, and cabbage. When my food arrived I was shocked to see curry chicken instead of shrimp. I REALLY wanted something besides chicken! I'm not allergic and it's just a preference for today so I didn't complain. The food is absolutely delicious. It's been a min since I ordered a Caribbean meal and was pleased in the DC area. The meat was tender ok both the oxtails and chicken. EVERYTHING was flavorful. I also liked that the sodas are $1.99 for a 20 fl oz. So many places are ripping you off so this was definitely a plus. My only dislike is that it comes in a container that's not sectioned. I particularly do not care for my food to touch AT ALL but it came without much damage so I could still eat it lol. They deserved the 4.8 stars on Uber Eats so they easily got a 5 stars from me on here! Try it!

Also ordered water and blueberry muffin, unfortunately the only thing that was good was the water. The Turkey wings were cold and Mac and cheese wasn't cheesy and lacked flavor. The Turkey wings gravy had flavor the wings lacked it. The blueberry muffin wasn't sweet and good. Returned back to the cafe because of the temperature of food which lady at the front heated it up and when i told her about the Mac lacking seasoning she gave me salt and pepper i asked her to throw out the muffin she offered me cake. Once again service is great food is just subpar

I've never been to a Mexican bakery, or really had much authentic Mexican food available to me, but we'd been staying in the area for a few weeks. One day after a very long morning, we saw this bakery and made the very rookie move of walking in absolutely starving. Neither of us had the other to talk us down, we grabbed a tray and just started piling things onto it. We managed to stop ourselves at six pastries, but still with a sense of remorse, not having planned on spending so much money on baked goods. They rang us up and charged us $11.12. We walked out of there with a bag about as heavy as any meal we'd ordered wondering if they've made a mistake or if these are just garbage pastries we just bought. The pricing just felt unrealistically low for what we got. We took the goods home and ate them throughout the day, and into the next. Not a single complaint. In fact, why is this place seemingly not so big a deal? I think we made a scene with our excitement as we walked in and made a few laps, deciding what to get. We went to a lot of places and found a lot of great food while in the area, but I think this place was the most exciting find. We left on Easter Sunday, and figured we'd give the place a try. They were open! This time we knew we'd never have another shot at this place so we went all out. Ten pastries (each one better than the last), two tamales, freaking $15.48. We absolutely fail to see what the not-so-big deal is about this place. Maybe it's par for the course for the area, or for Mexican bakeries in general. But if all you know is $2-3 per item starting price for mediocre baked goods, make sure to stop here while you're in the area and go nuts.
