Black-owned Mother Rucker's is serving up THEE BEST SUBS IN DC (coming from a Jersey girl who is serious about her sandwiches)! Located in NE DC near H street, I'm so glad that I have this gem in my neighborhood. I ordered a foot long turkey & provolone sub and it came out to around $13. That in my opinion is soooooo great when you have other sub shops charging you like $20. The bread is the star of the show here and I love that they have toppings like hot peppers, oregano, oil & vinegar and sweet peppers. They quickly got my order ready despite it being busy on a Wednesday afternoon. And I love that they asked if I wanted to sandwich cut in 4's, in half or not at all. Once I got to my destination I ate this sub so quickly with a friend and was thinking about when I was going to get my next one. Hands down I highly suggest supporting this local business. The team was so kind. I wish them all of the success because I need great subs without having to go all the way up to Jersey.

Not sure how I should review this. It was a very awkward timing I think, where the main owner (I believe) was not attentive to me upon entering and ordering. She did have a second person assisting, but they needed assistance to which the owner wasn't very attentive to either. Overall just not the most pleasant customer service. I ordered the turkey, had and provolone cheese sandwich with toppings. The sandwich was okay. Nothing too special that would make me go back.

    I love this Sub place!

Awwww man, I love Mother Rucker's Sub. This is a D.C. staple and the best sandwich spot I've ever had . Black owned and the sandwich symbolizes a connection to D.C. I always get the Marion Barry , a formal mayor of D.C. Your sandwich is made directly in your face and it is exactly what you ask for. Now this isn't a sit down and dine type spot . You kind of ordered, pickup, and go however there is room for a quick bite if that is what you need . It's 1 or 2 tables available for you . The customer service is hospitable and they know their customers . Each visit to D.C. I always make an attempt to stop by good ol' Mother Rucker's sub . Oh just like Chick-Fil-A . They too are closed on Sundays lol

Mother Ruckers's strength is its consistency. Every time I go, I order the Turkey, Ham, and Provolone with everything except onions and get the same great sandwich every time. While it's a simple meal, it's a well-priced (under $15) and filling (12-inch) sandwich that never disappoints. The Italian seasoning and hot peppers give the subtle but important flavor that sets it apart and the workers make sure to put enough mustard, mayo, oil and vinegar that I've never complained about a dry sandwich. This hole-in-the-wall is an example of a place that does something simple but does it well, time and time again.

Goood thangs here!! I was told about this spot by one of friends.. I was craving a good sandwich but didn't wanna get one of the regular corny spots lol. So I said let me place my order via UberEats. It was delivered pretty quick and with love. I open that plastic bags like a savage looking for scraps. The size was right! The smell was right!! The look it self was sold to me before I bit into the heavenly sandwich! The first bite alone was and orgasm to my taste buds. Fresh cold cuts, fresh bread, fresh toppings, fresh sauces! What more do you want?!? I love the experience and I'm looking forward to for more of this spot in the coming days.. Thank you Mother Rucker! Oh yeah BLACK OWNED!!!!!!

Used Mother Ruckers for a work convening. They arrived on time and worked well in advanced. Participated in my walk through and the menu variety was great for the attendees some who could no dairy or were vegan .. happy to Support a woman owned diverse business.

Y'all already know that I rarely give 5 stars but this spot really deserves it!!! I have been wanting to try this spot for years but things happen so yesterday was my first time trying it and they did not disappoint! First of all, Mother Ruckers is a black owned family business and from the moment you walk in, you feel the love and warmth! I did not get the young lady's name but she was so genuine and just a blessing!! It was a blessing to see her genuinely engaged with her customers. Not mean. Not rude. She had such a pleasant attitude and that alone made me want to support even more. Now...let's get into the deliciousness of this cold-cut!!! Soft bread, fresh veggies, and fresh meat! I opted for the turkey provolone and it was everything a cold-cut is supposed to be and much much more. I enjoyed every bite and was mad when it was gone. I will definitely be back and I can't wait.

They don't have typical bacon or sausage because "the owners don't eat pork" which really sounds like something more appropriate for their house, and not their restaurant business on Rhode island ave. The "chicken sausage" was a shriveled up piece of chicken paste that they cooked in the microwave. I ordered scrambled eggs, and when they came out, they had that crust that scrambled eggs get when they sit out after being cooked. The grits were lumpy and outside of the cheese sauce they put on the top - had no flavor. The French toast tasted like milk eggs and burnt grill. And the pancakes, were very obviously pre made and microwaved. Additionally - the meal I ordered is listed to come with a bread, eggs, a side and a meat. I asked for bacon, and was told the owners don't eat pork. I asked for the chicken sausage.. 5 minutes later the server asked me if I wanted the sausage spicy or not. Then when she brought the bill, there was a $4 up charge for spicy sausage that she neither told me, nor was it on the menu. And to make matters worse - the sausages were not spicy and were actually just flat out nasty. This is a SAD excuse for a restaurant. I'm sad that I spent calories walking there and dollars eating there.

Speaking of, my daughter ordered the Nutella Stuffed French Toast and rated it a 100/10. While waiting for my order, I had a chance to speak with one of the head chef's and he told me about the culinary program their offer to teach refugees culinary skills. They recommend everything of course. I ordered 2 Whiting platters and one Old Bay wings platter. I waited outside as there isn't much seating on the inside. About 20 minutes go by and my food was ready. I raced home to eat. The food was good. The whiting was fried and seasoned perfectly. I could have asked for better fish. The greens were delicious. Soft, seasoned and southern. The yams could have been better. They tasted as though they were warmed up and I got the bottom/corner of the pan. My wife had the other whiting platter. She too enjoyed the fish. She had a side of Mac and cheese and rice with vegetables. The rice was good. The Mac and cheese is ok. She was not a fan of velveeta cheese for Mac and cheese and I wasn't either when I tasted mine with the wings below. Lastly I ordererd old bay wings with a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was far to dry. It was definitely missing something. The wings were seasoned with the right amount of old bay but have tasted a little stale. Overall I had a good experience. I know what I like and what I may not like from here going forward. The whiting is great along with the Mac and cheese. I love a good fish platter. Next time I'll go earlier in the day for sure.

I looked it up on Uber Eats to see what they sold and was excited because I had been craving soul food. The inside was small but nice. They had plenty of seating if you wanted to eat inside. I ordered a #26 on the seafood menu which was a platter that included Shrimp, Oysters, and Whiting. It also included two sides, I chose Mac n cheese and collard greens. This was a 3/5. I will never order the Mac again, the greens were good, the shrimp were the ones you throw in the fryer, oysters were decent, and the fish was seasoned well. I would've preferred fresh shrimp but these were ok. I will asks that the fresh be fried harder but again, that's a preference. Cocktail sauce was really good. Note: I was told that none of the sides included pork. Not really sure and it's explained below. My daughter ordered a turkey cold cut sub w/ fries. I noticed that the price rang up for different than what was on the menu. She told me I was mixing up items. I was told that the turkey and cheese sandwich was different from the turkey sub. To ensure that I understood what she was saying I asked more questions. She told me that the sub included lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, and the sandwich did not. I thanked her for her explanation and explained my reason for asking was because on the menu the turkey cold cut came with ham and we do not eat pork. She said that was fine and the turkey sub could be made without the ham. However, when we got home the sandwich in fact had ham on it . The meal costs a little over $20, which wasn't the biggest issue. My biggest issue was that I had explained that we did not eat pork and we had a whole conversation about the sandwich for it to still be made wrong. This was a waste of money because my daughter could not eat the sandwich. I called and they said that I could come back and get another sandwich . I explained to her that we live on the other side of town and that it wasn't easy for us to just return and get another sandwich. She asked what they could do and I said that's what I would like to figure out. We were told that the next time that we came that my daughter would be compensated for her meal with another meal and that this young lady would remember us. My daughter has another appointment early next month and we shall see. I cannot rate this order but my daughter said she will never order another sub from here. Overall, I was not pleased with my experience with this be if my first time but I'm willing to give them another shot.
