It's important to know that Potomac Fish House is not a dine-in establishment. And if you call ahead your order more than likely will not be ready when you arrive. But it's worth the wait because your order will be freshly made and there's nothing like hot fish. I ordered the two pieces whiting dinner with potatoes, fried broccoli, and a side of scallops. My granny and mom love their Friday fried fish tradition, and while I don't usually join in, they babysat my dog that day so I figured the least I could do was pick up dinner. It was raining, I was leaving Costco, and I wanted something close by. A quick Yelp search led me to Potomac Fish House & Deli, and I'm so glad it did. It's a small, pickup-only spot, which honestly is always a good sign when it comes to seafood. Add in the steady stream of older Black folks coming in and out and I already knew the food was about to be legit I wasn't totally sure how to order since I didn't want full platters just enough fried whiting and shrimp for three people. The man behind the counter was patient and super helpful, packing up three fish orders (each with two big pieces of fish and bread) plus a half pound of shrimp and an order of fries. Everything was delicious, perfectly seasoned and fried just right. The potato-wedge style fries were especially ... some of the best I've had in a long time. My mom and granny couldn't stop talking about how good it was and already said this is their new fish spot. We spent about $50 for all of it, which felt very fair for the quality and amount of food. Potomac Fish House is a good place to get fried fish. They have a vast menu of seafood items, however, for the local area I believe the value is in the fried fish and maybe the fried shrimp. I have not tried their other fried menu items, however, based on what I heard others ordering during my visit there could be other good menu items. My fish was fried well and made to order. Not overly fried or under fried. The customer service was good. There is no seating on the inside and the operation is take-out only. The lobby of the restaurant is only big enough to accommodate a few customers at a time. There is a refrigerated fish display case separating the kitchen from the lobby, so you are able to see how fresh the fish and seafood are. They also sell desserts, however, for me I'm always skeptical of the freshness of desserts sold at restaurants whose cuisine does not specialize in the dessert. Often, the desserts are sourced from small businesses, so who knows how long they have been sitting, refrigerated, and placed back in the showcase. Overall a good experience. read more

I feel that this fish vendor offers great value for the money. This place serves a ton of folks. There can also be a wait involved. You just never know. Staying in D.C. for the first time and wanted some authentic Maryland crab. Proceeded with my go-to move of checking Yelp and after a bit of back and forth with my bf, we settled on this place. Menu had what we needed and it was a short drive from the area we were staying in. It's a small joint and take-out only, but that's all it needs to be. We ordered 1lb of steamed crab and the shrimp and scallops platter. The scallops were big and meaty, we were both really impressed. But we didn't eat them right away (we started with the crab) so by the time we got to the scallops, the breading was soggy and the flavor so-so. The actual scallops were good. That being said, the shrimp was still really tasty and hadn't gotten quite as soggy so there was more bite to them. Despite the delay, the shrimp were still really good. Our fault for waiting too long. That being said, we took so darn long getting to the scallops because we were so preoccupied with the crab. AMAZING! Cooked perfectly and the flavor was on point. My bf asked for butter (they didn't have it) but ended up not even needing it. Not sure if the crab was fresh or frozen, but it was delicious. I gave them 4 stars not because I haven't had better but because they are consistent good fresh and cheap. If you want to get your Friday night fried seafood fix this is the place to go if you live in this area. Service could be better. When it's crowded it is a beast but they do take phone orders. They have also changed their policy they now accept debit and credit cards with a $10 minimum purchase. Make sure you get there early on weekends and holidays and also pray that your food hasn't been cooked in old grease sometimes they slip up with that from time to time.
