This is a great pit stop going to/from Death Valley when you find yourself in Beatty. The place has adequate parking, you need to refuel your car before or after your expedition, and you need to get more liquid in your body and/or leave some there. The candy is a bit on the expensive side. I was looking at some of their sugar free chocolate and it was $12.50 a pound. That's not that bad, but for the kind of candy it was, it was high. I did buy a bag of chili coated peanuts. They sound like they have some zing. The next time I'm in the area, I'll be stopping in. read more

One of my regular "pit stops" on the long long long drive from Reno to Las Vegas. I have watched this place develop and grow over the last 20+ years. It provides a great spot to get gas, pick up a snack or quick meal, peruse the huge array of dried fruits and nuts (in addition to just about any type of candy imaginable), and even use the "facilities". There is a Subway, a coffee shop, locally made beef jerky, ice cream, and the usual tourist tchotchkes. The gas is reasonable and there is a Tesla Charging station on site for your electric vehicle needs. Defiantly worth the stop. read more

A veritable oasis in a desert of nothingness, when you find yourself on this very lonely stretch of road you just HAVE to stop here. The exterior looks like a castle and what's inside is, well, what you expect: lots and lots of bags of candy and nuts! The prices are reasonable and the goods are plenty. If you can't find something you like here, then you are the pickiest person on the planet. Great place to grab some road trip snacks. Check each bag carefully because the amount of nuts / candy inside varies with each bag and are priced according to weight (so one bag may be priced at $3 while the one underneath is $8). Low carb eaters and diabetics rejoice: they have an extensive section of sugar free candy on the next to the last row on the right, even sugar free gumballs! I grabbed some sugar free dark chocolate covered almonds and some sugar free gummi bears too. They have one of the best selection of sugar free candies I've ever seen. Special sodas and root beer line the shelves too, many with funny labels that would make great gag gifts for a birthday or hilarious holiday stocking stuffers. Of course, there are "normal" sodas in the coolers too. Don't like nuts or candy? There's a homemade jerky counter, ice cream counter and a full size Subway sandwich shop towards the back of the store. Clean restrooms. A must-stop for all road warriors. read more

What a gem!! I went for a drive with a friend and we went to Rhyolite, and on the way back we stopped here. The employees were great! All of the employees were wearing masks, following COVID protocols and the place was super clean! I bought the best honey roasted cashews! It's way cheaper than I thought it would be. I usually love this place as a stop to top off the drinks stretch legs etc. To my shock the place closes early. You can still get gas but no facilities if you're traveling and need to use the can. I get biz in the middle of the night probably isn't robust but dang a traveler needs to stop and there isn't a lot of those in this neck of the woods. So don't stop after 10pm. If you are here during open times it's a great stop. Lots and lots of candy and nuts and a subway clean place. Good stop. But closes at 10pm. read more

This is a fun pit stop whilst traveling north or south on 95 in Nevada. They have a gigantic bottled water section (no surprise given its proximity to Death Valley). There's also a handmade ice cream counter (cash only for the ice cream) with yummy concoctions, including english toffee and kit kat (my two scoop selections). There's several icee / slushie / slurpee options. There's aisle upon aisle of unique, handmade candies. There's a handmade jerky calendar. A large selection of hot sauces. Love stopping in here and stocking up on my favorite candies! The outside looks like a castle. There is a bridge you walk over to enter the store and there is a man-made waterfall that goes into a river. It sounds so peaceful and relaxing. There are also tables and chairs outside. Inside you will find rows and rows of different chocolates, nuts, candies etc. They even have sugar free options to choose from. On your first visit you should really take the time to walk each isle and see what all they have. If you are a fan of the candy "runts" then you might be delighted to find out they sell bags of just the banana candies! Score! This last visit I got some "Fruit Slices" and tried to contain myself from eating them all before getting home. Most stuff is already weighed, priced and packaged so you don't have to fuss with scooping stuff into bags and weighing it. There is a Subway inside so that is convenient for picking up a sandwich for the road. Especially when the smell of the bread as you walk inside DVNC smells so good. If you need gas then you can get that here too. Oh, homemade ice cream, that can be found here too! The gas prices are on a medieval looking tower and it is neat. The pillars in between each gas pump looks to be made of some sort if brick and all have a unique design. This is just a nice place to make a pit stop. read more

This is a gas station/convenience store/candy shop. The store is a huge large room with tons of candy, water, and other amenities next to the Stagecoach Casino. They sell ice cream by the scoop and now they even have a Subway! We stop here every time on the way to Bishop because we need gas around this point. The restrooms are all the way in the back and are decent. They have tons of paper towels - four or five dispensers mounted on the wall in the ladies' restroom. The staff here is pretty nice. The kid working the ice cream stand went AWOL so the person who took over for him gave my husband a free scoop because he had to wait. The candy and ice cream is all pretty decent but nothing to go out of your way for. I have not tried the Subway yet, but I assume it is just a regular Subway. Happy it's in Beatty. Was a cute and fun stop! A MUST stop if you are driving through the area. Aisles of candy and stuffed animals, toys, and souvenirs too. Fun sodas and all different types of drinks available. Restroom was decent and located in the back of the store. Food was also sold here. Giant nutcrackers and pirate statues throughout the store. Great selection of nuts and candy. Of course, you'd hope so with a name like Death Valley Nut & Candy Co. I first visited this place on the tail end of a Geology field trip out to Death Valley years ago. On my way back from my trip yesterday, I decided to stop again. Really, your trip wouldn't be complete without it. At the worst case, you get a likely needed bathroom break. In the best case, you leave with more varieties of candy and nuts than you could ever need. Or maybe that's also the worst case. Seriously though, they have everything from your basic salted and unsalted peanuts (both Spanish and Virginia) to various flavored pistachios (like green jalapeno or garlic) to yogurt-covered nuts and fruit. The bags are around 1 pound each and the prices range from $2.29 per pound for peanuts to $7.99 per pound for pistachios to probably a lot more. Not all that cheap, but it's certainly fun browsing the aisles. read more

Friends all had hands full of candy to purchase. until Mark, the same rude clerk I dealt with in September, jumped down my throat yet again about my mask. I told him I had already talked to the owner and manager about this mask situation. He basically called me a liar and said "no you didn't, what's her name if you talked to her". Again was harping loudly about my mask. I paid for my candy, my friends put everything back and we left. I am so done with this store. This was the last straw. Until Mark is fired. I will not return. He is an arrogant, rude little man who should not work with the public. No, we are done. And the prices show it- OUCH we didnt get any candy here as they were all overpriced, did get some Ice Cream, which was pretty good, and wife got a latte, she thought the guy was slow but he did make it perfect and she loved her latte! They also offer milk shakes here made with real ice cream, and different kinds of jerky- but didnt get any of those either as was priced higher then what I would be willing to pay for it. Didnt get any soda here since just that coke stuff here- bleah! and no sandwich since just Subway. This place will BLOW your mind. It's easily the coolest gas station I have ever been to, in the USA and around the world. If you're a candy fanatic, you will die and go to heaven the second you walk into the door. They have bag upon bag upon bag of gummies, nuts, dried fruit, chocolate and more. They have the GOOD gummy bears -- the slightly different coloured bears that have amazing flavours and are soft... ohmygod. This place nearly has it all, a must stop on your drive through this tiny town. Great candy, nuts and delicious ice cream. Subway and fresh jerky also inside. Candy, nuts and jerky are not cheap though. They have a very large selection of cold drinks, perfect for your road trip. And gas prices are cheaper here than in Tonopah. This was a great find that we were not expecting! we went in for a quick bit in the morning for hitting the road. They were very sweet. This is a good place to stop and stretch, go to the bathroom, get gas and get some candy. The candy inside is the main attraction. There are isles of nuts, chocolates, gummy bears, jerky and novelty items. Everything is already weighed and priced. There isn't much for food in Beatty so I'd recommend either grabbing a sandwich from the Subway located inside this place or go to KC's Outpost on the same side of the road not to far over. The Denny's in the next door casino is terrible. If the candy wasn't enough to cure your sweet tooth they have an area where they also sell ice cream. Yes... they do have sugar free stuff too so there is something for everyone. Kids and adults both would enjoy this place. The patio out front is pet friendly so you can let your dog out to stretch and stuff. Just keep in mind that burros roam free around here. read more

Odd little mix of a Maverick style gas station and a candy shop. Large assortment of candies. I didn't find any of the haystacks or fudge I was looking for. I was hoping they would have a fudge and truffle counter...but they didn't. Just tons and tons and tons of bagged up candy. Gift shop type items mixed in throughout with typical gas station food and drinks. There is a mini Subway in the back. Bathrooms were not clean, but I really cannot blame them as there was a line the whole time we were there, non stop use. Anyhew...it is ok...great place to stop, get gas, some food and sweets. Not up to the par of the Candy shops I am used to in Reno and Virginia City, but it is ok for a gas station candy store. If you are going through, give it a try. read more

Well this was a fun stop on our way to Las Vegas. We were Drive down Nevada from Sacramento to Las Vegas and I needed a pit stop! I only intended to use the restroom, pump a little gas and get the heck back on the road. But, when I walked into the place, I was amazed by the amount of candy...sweet, delicious candy! Perhaps it's a low bar to clear, given the lack of anything else anywhere nearby. We would've stopped for gas even if the place was falling down, given the 180 miles or so we'd traveled since we last saw a gas pump. But this place is exceptional. They don't gouge you on prices despite having a monopoly for miles, and they have everything you could want in a convenience store -- gas, decent bathrooms, plausible lunch at Subway, drinks, snacks, etc. And we could've gorged ourselves on the candy and nut offerings. We were on our way to Yosemite & found this place completely by accident. We had stopped for gas & a bathroom break. After taking once very quick glance at their nasty bathroom, I quickly left & yelped "clean bathrooms" This place popped up & it was just down the road from where we were & in the direction we we were heading.. Perfect! Imagine my 3 boys delight when we walked in to CANDY HEAVEN. I am not kidding you, this place has 5 or 6 huge rows with bins holding every type of candy imaginable! I even got a little giddy & I am not a huge fan of sweets or candy so that's saying a lot! Besides their massive candy selection, they also have a lot of different varieties of nuts. The hubby & I ended up with a bag of their garlic pistachios, chili-lemon pistachios & some trail mix. The boys of course each picked out a bag of some type of brightly colored gummy stuff. The garlic pistachios were to-die-for & extremely hard to put down. The chili-lemon was equally as good if you like that flavor combo but I could only eat a few of them before needing to go back to the garlic. The boys of course were thrilled with their selections & bonus: it made the rest of the long trip to Yosemite much quieter with the threat of the candy being taken away if they didn't stop fighting with each other looming over their heads! *evil laugh* I am currently planning out a winter camping trip to death valley so we can stop by this place again for our garlic pistachio & candy fix! *oh, as for the bathrooms, they were ok. Definitely cleaner than the nasty gas station bathroom but none of the stall doors locked! I hope they have since fixed this bc it's kind of a pain to pee while keeping one foot up on the door so no one barges in on you! read more

So my husband stopped in Beatty Nevada at a Motel 6, and honestly when we pulled up I really just wanted to keep going, but I am SO glad we stayed!! We would never have found Death Valley Nut & Candy if we just kept on driving. I can only describe this as a candy lover's dream.... the largest candy store in Nevada! If you have ever seen Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and the kids first walk into the place with the chocolate river and EVERYTHING is edible...well..only that exact place could top this place!!! They have aisles and aisles of candy. From old fashioned rootbeer barrels to the ever gummy candy you could think of, and of course chocolate, nuts, and so much more! In this store there is also a Subway, a homemade ice cream area, stuffed animals, novelties, as well as a large variety of refreshments, drinks and much more. If you see the sign....STOP!!! You will not be sorry. You will simply be scratching your head and wondering why the heck these stores aren't everywhere : ) read more

We found this place over Thanksgiving weekend. We were camping in Death Valley and wanted to get reasonable priced gasoline, so drove into Beatty after stopping at Rhylote Ghost Town. We saw this place and stopped. We absolutely loved the homemade ice cream! It was amazing. Loved the coffee flavor. We also had sandwiches from Subway. Plus, we bought some souvenirs. Nice place! Would you believe that you can find the BEST candy in the middle of the desert? Holy smokes I love this place. I always stop here to get like 20 bags of candy and let the pup go for a potty. They have every kind of candy you can dream of. It is always fresh and so good. Yes, some of it is expensive, but who care's. It is chocolate people and you are obviously on a road trip. Live a little and stock up. all you need is a HUGE bottle of water and the candy. Oh and be sure not to leave your candy on the dash or console of your car like the BF did.
