She's extremely thorough, smart, warm and personable. And while her practice uses the best of technology, the way she practices medicine is reminiscent of a time when there were no HMOs, insurance companies or 15-minute appointment allotments. Yep, Dr. Marshall will actually spend A LOT of time getting to know and treating you, even though that runs counter to maximizing profits! I also appreciate that Dr. Marshall practices holistic medicine; I see it as getting the best of both worlds. She's very knowledgeable about nutrition, acupuncture, naturopathy, physical medicine, and of course, Western medicine. The Eylan Health office is clean, relaxing, organized, and I haven't had any trouble getting appointments. I like using the Eylan Health E-Portal to schedule appointments, upload docs, get lab orders and communicate with Dr. Marshall (I haven't gotten on board with the MyChart system at our other doctors quite yet). Oooh, and the office is right down the street from Mayuri Indian Cuisine, a fantastic choice if you're in the mood for Indian food. But here's my #1 reason for being a Dr. Marshall/Eylan Health fan: I'm actually feeling BETTER after a month of simple changes and Dr. Marshall's treatments! I've been seeing health practitioners and trying every reasonable treatment under the sun [well, that I can actually afford] to deal with my musculoskeletal issues for nearly a decade now. Yet in the past 6 weeks since seeing Dr. Marshall, I've become convinced that my body is actually starting to heal (or at least it's not reacting so poorly to every little stress). Honestly, I didn't expect these kind of results at all, so color me shocked and delighted! I have definitely spent the past year especially working HARD on my health, so I like to think those efforts prepared my body to be receptive to Dr. Marshall's treatments. The treatments I've had have been so gentle that I couldn't imagine how they could benefit me, by the way - there's no spine cracking or painful injections involved! Your mileage may vary, but my best advice is to give Dr. Marshall and whatever she prescribes for you a try because she's an excellent doctor who will truly give your WHOLE health the time, energy, care and attention it deserves. But until my experience with Dr. Kroll, I can't say I've ever been treated inhumanely. I had come to see Dr. Kroll about a year and a half ago for intense hormonal symptoms that were making it hard to function. Anyone close to or experiencing menopause will likely relate. Women face a woeful lack of information and preparation for this stage of our lives. Because Dr. Robin Kroll seemed to be running (or co-running) a dedicated menopause clinic, I felt a sense of optimism approaching my first visit--that "Oh thank god, here's someone who knows, and can help" feeling. Although I cannot describe her as a warm person, I did feel a sense of relief and gratitude after my first visit as I walked out with a low-dose HRT prescription which seemed promising. And it did help! Subtly, but consistently, my disruptive symptoms subsided. I slept again. I realized it was possible to progress through this physiological transformation without the operatic tumult, the brain fog, and the strange loss of emotional sovereignty produced by volatile hormone levels. At some point, perhaps six months later, Dr. Kroll transitioned to clinical research only, which made getting my prescription refilled very complicated, as she would routinely ignore the pharmacists until they called over and over. Although I asked my PCP to transition the prescription, she wouldn't do so without an exam. Now that vaccinations are widespread, and people are more comfortable getting the medical care they've put on hold, doctors are flooded with in-person exams, and mine was scheduled for a month out. At the same time, my mom had gone into hospice and I was sitting at her bedside daily, accompanying her as she began the dying process. The last thing I wanted was an interruption in my medication as I went through such a brutal chapter in my life. Unable to transition my prescription to my new doctor, I would only need one more refill from Dr. Kroll, When my pharmacist called it in, she was ignored for days, which by now we all expected. I spoke with the pharmacist and they said they had tried multiple times. So I picked up the phone. Dr. Kroll's voicemail instructs you to hit a three digit extension if you are one of her former patients. That extension disconnects you. I tried it three times. I now believe that functionality is by design. On the fourth time, I opted to talk to the receptionist. When I told her that that extension disconnects callers, she said in a way that struck me immediately as odd-- and which I now see was totally facetious-- "Ohhhh thank so much for letting us KNOW!" I left a message with the receptionist asking the doctor for one final refill while I awaited my exam elsewhere. The refill did not come. I asked the pharmacist to retry, and they did. Finally, I called the emergency line over the weekend. At this point I had been off my treatment for two weeks. My mom was days, if not hours from dying, I couldn't think straight; couldn't sleep, my hot flashes had returned, and my days were a mix of blinding grief and blurry thinking. The doctor informed me that she "couldn't" refill my prescription. I don't do that now, she said. I told her that I understood that she had transitioned to clinicals, and that I wouldn't be back to bother her after this one, as I'd begun with a new doctor, but they couldn't greenlight the prescription without an exam. "You got a letter six months ago about my clinic closing." Had I? I don't know...? But I ask you, reader, who fucking cares? Dr. Kroll, are you still a licensed physician, or not? and do you anticipate that some people might not have had the pluck to go find a new OB/GYN during a pandemic? To refill a scrip you literally have to click a button on an email. In fact, most doctors don't even have do that - that's why they have a staff. Dr. Kroll just wanted to be punitive--after all, I hadn't been attentive enough to her mail, that'll teach me! And let's give all the old patients an extension that sends them straight to dial tone so they can piss off entirely. My new doctor cannot wrap her head around this kind of patient neglect. She said it violates core principles you're supposed to embody as a doctor, and abandoning your patients is a serious transgression. It made quite an impact on me. It made my life harder, and for what reason--just so the doctor could needlessly flex her fuck you skills? What an embarrassment of a doctor, and what a strange type of person to entrust both your data and your health to in any type of clinical trial she may be running.

I was advised to try an IUD since bc pills were not working. I had the IUD inserted and passed out from the pain during insertion. I woke up to hear the clinic worker (not sure if it was a nurse or dr) yelling for assistance and apologizing to me because she had scratched inside my uterus when my bottom fell off the table. They wrote NONE of this in my records. When I called back a few days later to complain from the pain, the front desk told me that it didn't happen. That I did not have my uterus scratched when I passed out, and it was nowhere in my records. Now, 2.5 years later, I have been diagnosed with severe Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, with adhesions covering all my major organs and have completely lost my ability to have children!!!! I live in chronic pain every single day. All from IUD complications. I was not warned that PID was a possible outcome of an IUD by this clinic. Not once told the possible side effects. I said "I told the receptionist I could go get it. I live about two blocks away." "If you're not happy with the care, you can go somewhere else." So I did. Very strange and unpleasant interaction. My fault for not having an ID, but what an A-hole. Best I can figure, I was labeled suspicious for not having my ID and shown the door. He also wouldn't give me my chart when I left. Since that doctor I've had a long string of managed care zombies. Every single one has made a snap judgment based on the first symptom or two they heard and hustled me along. I had one doc say "You need to lose some weight" based on my BMI, not bothering to note that I was at the time a bodybuilder with single digit body fat (his advice would be correct nowadays, but again I digress). Dr. Friedman, who I chose totally at random as the nearest doctor who took my insurance, has been an unexpected joy. He's very kind, listens to his patients, doesn't rush you at all and seriously knows his stuff. He has also worked in the area for a very long time and has extensive connections in the local medical community. I've gotten a couple of referrals from him and they both worked out wonderfully. To be fair his office is a little dated-feeling and could use a facelift, but that hasn't affected the quality of care I've received at all. I'd much rather have a great doctor with a 70's-feeling office than a mediocre doctor in a state of the art facility, which seems all too common these days.

Dr. B runs the site Menopause Menu, which is as hackneyed as it sounds. For two years, I reported extreme and worsening symptoms and over the course of several appointments, she dismissed each symptom as menopause. No, you hack, it was Stage 3 cancer. She never even sent me to a specialist. Plus, echoing others, she was never, ever on time.

Dr. B was too…read morebusy for me, ordered a lot of unnecessary chest films when I had a sore throat, and waited several days to answer my urgent question on My Chart when I had been diagnosed with colon cancer. At the time she was also running a weight loss program and hosting lectures by other Polyclinic physicians. All this when I was paying a monthly fee for "concierge service." I cannot recommend this physician if she is still this busy with non-primary patient care activities.
