At my age, I've interacted with doctors of seemingly every degree of competence, compassion, and engagement. But until my experience with Dr. Kroll, I can't say I've ever been treated inhumanely. I had come to see Dr. Kroll about a year and a half ago for intense hormonal symptoms that were making it hard to function. Anyone close to or experiencing menopause will likely relate. Women face a woeful lack of information and preparation for this stage of our lives. Because Dr. Robin Kroll seemed to be running (or co-running) a dedicated menopause clinic, I felt a sense of optimism approaching my first visit--that "Oh thank god, here's someone who knows, and can help" feeling. Although I cannot describe her as a warm person, I did feel a sense of relief and gratitude after my first visit as I walked out with a low-dose HRT prescription which seemed promising. And it did help! Subtly, but consistently, my disruptive symptoms subsided. I slept again. I realized it was possible to progress through this physiological transformation without the operatic tumult, the brain fog, and the strange loss of emotional sovereignty produced by volatile hormone levels. At some point, perhaps six months later, Dr. Kroll transitioned to clinical research only, which made getting my prescription refilled very complicated, as she would routinely ignore the pharmacists until they called over and over. Although I asked my PCP to transition the prescription, she wouldn't do so without an exam. Now that vaccinations are widespread, and people are more comfortable getting the medical care they've put on hold, doctors are flooded with in-person exams, and mine was scheduled for a month out. At the same time, my mom had gone into hospice and I was sitting at her bedside daily, accompanying her as she began the dying process. The last thing I wanted was an interruption in my medication as I went through such a brutal chapter in my life. Unable to transition my prescription to my new doctor, I would only need one more refill from Dr. Kroll, When my pharmacist called it in, she was ignored for days, which by now we all expected. I spoke with the pharmacist and they said they had tried multiple times. So I picked up the phone. Dr. Kroll's voicemail instructs you to hit a three digit extension if you are one of her former patients. That extension disconnects you. I tried it three times. I now believe that functionality is by design. On the fourth time, I opted to talk to the receptionist. When I told her that that extension disconnects callers, she said in a way that struck me immediately as odd-- and which I now see was totally facetious-- "Ohhhh thank so much for letting us KNOW!" I left a message with the receptionist asking the doctor for one final refill while I awaited my exam elsewhere. The refill did not come. I asked the pharmacist to retry, and they did. Finally, I called the emergency line over the weekend. At this point I had been off my treatment for two weeks. My mom was days, if not hours from dying, I couldn't think straight; couldn't sleep, my hot flashes had returned, and my days were a mix of blinding grief and blurry thinking. The doctor informed me that she "couldn't" refill my prescription. I don't do that now, she said. I told her that I understood that she had transitioned to clinicals, and that I wouldn't be back to bother her after this one, as I'd begun with a new doctor, but they couldn't greenlight the prescription without an exam. "You got a letter six months ago about my clinic closing." Had I? I don't know...? But I ask you, reader, who fucking cares? Dr. Kroll, are you still a licensed physician, or not? and do you anticipate that some people might not have had the pluck to go find a new OB/GYN during a pandemic? To refill a scrip you literally have to click a button on an email. In fact, most doctors don't even have do that - that's why they have a staff. Dr. Kroll just wanted to be punitive--after all, I hadn't been attentive enough to her mail, that'll teach me! And let's give all the old patients an extension that sends them straight to dial tone so they can piss off entirely. My new doctor cannot wrap her head around this kind of patient neglect. She said it violates core principles you're supposed to embody as a doctor, and abandoning your patients is a serious transgression. It made quite an impact on me. It made my life harder, and for what reason--just so the doctor could needlessly flex her fuck you skills? What an embarrassment of a doctor, and what a strange type of person to entrust both your data and your health to in any type of clinical trial she may be running. read more

DO NOT GO! This clinic has scarred me for life. I was a first time patient and seeking advice on birth control method for heavy bleeding issues. I was advised to try an IUD since bc pills were not working. I had the IUD inserted and passed out from the pain during insertion. I woke up to hear the clinic worker (not sure if it was a nurse or dr) yelling for assistance and apologizing to me because she had scratched inside my uterus when my bottom fell off the table. They wrote NONE of this in my records. When I called back a few days later to complain from the pain, the front desk told me that it didn't happen. That I did not have my uterus scratched when I passed out, and it was nowhere in my records. Now, 2.5 years later, I have been diagnosed with severe Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, with adhesions covering all my major organs and have completely lost my ability to have children!!!! I live in chronic pain every single day. All from IUD complications. I was not warned that PID was a possible outcome of an IUD by this clinic. Not once told the possible side effects. Stay away from this place. I did a quick clinical study here. First off, the employee who attempted to do my blood draw hands were so shaky i asked her if she was okay and asked to have someone else do it. No one wants the person who's holding a needle in their hand literally shaking and unable to hold the needle still. No thanks. Anyway. The trial was short and easy. A year later, after the covid-19 vaccine mandate was lifted, I came to do a different study, drove an hour in traffic to the clinic and as the receptionist was literally about to walk me into the back, she said that the Dr. said that they are now ONLY taking those who are vaccinated in the trial because the clinic has employees who are immune compromised.. probably something you should have mentioned to me when i made my appointment. Not exactly sure if they're even allowed to do that? Don't waste your time coming here. read more

I have been involved with 3 of their birth control studies. They are really ontop of their game, when it comes to making sure that there is nothing going wrong with your body. The staff are really friendly and professional. Women who don't have the access to birth control and who are looking for a little side income. I had in-the-hospital pneumonia a couple times between my visit in March (when I wrote the review) and about a month ago, so I couldn't make it in for an office visit. Dr. Kroll refused to write me refills for the new hormone meds she'd put me on because I was supposed to stay at home while recovering! I had to get my medication temporarily filled by my PCP. The office staff also chewed me out for being admitted to the hospital through the ER when I had a visit scheduled. Yeah, I didn't get 24 hours notice about that either! When I felt well enough to go back to Seattle Women's, it was a completely different experience. The receptionist was curt and cold. I was still pretty sick, the only person in the waiting room and waited for almost an hour. I was coughing, dizzy, dehydrated and asked to go lay in a room in the back while I waited. The receptionist five feet from me pointedly ignored me and said, "We don't usually do that, I'd have to ask the doctor" when my husband asked her as well. She made no move to ask the doctor. I chose this doctor for her sensitivity and how nice the office staff was. I was treated very poorly. After an hour of coughing, crying and asking to lay down, I left and I will not come back. Dr. Kroll owns/runs the Women's Clinical Research Center and she herself has been voted by her peers as one of the best physicians in the country for several different years. She's very good at what she does and made me feel very at ease. Keep in mind if you're trying to book an appointment with her that she's always super busy and so her appointments are booked out at least a month. read more

in 2014, shann tried to draw my blood here and touched me barehanded w/ no gloves on (and couldn't even get my blood, they're so inept), i complained to the doctor. kroll said its acceptable medical procedure (even if it is, they shouldn't be touching me w/o gloves, makes me sick that they did) then told me to leave. in 2015, i went in for an appt and their staff (sara martin, kroll and shann were there, had to be staff cause i didnt see any other clients) stole a knife (and more) from my purse while i was in the restroom (i left it on a table, didn't take it with me cause it was heavy and i was rushing; i need what they stole to protect myself and 1 item was sentimental) then said they wouldn't give me care bc of the last complaint. i didn't notice the theft til i left the clinic; of course they deny it. i went back, cops were summoned by shann, and referred to her as a "young lady" when they arrived, clearly blind and siding w/ a "professional". i reported their misconduct, it was investigated; i sent a damage claim to the city of seattle. seattle womens won't return my forms that contain sensitive info and are using them for unauthorized purposes. im no rat (i only call po on stalkers, usually non-emergency unless i wanna annoy 'em or im preggo); i defend myself, i'll get justice. i emailed the amazon seller i bought the knife from about wat happened and he sent a new one free. ive been talking to a sgt in the precinct who responded about compensation. people who put honest reviews of this place tend to show good grammar and spelling, unlike who they bribe to post reviews. read more

They can't do simple blood draws, they' stab your arms like a pincushion, you'll be scarred and scared lol. The doctor shouts at her staff for complaints in front of clients and she runs off if while you're asking a question then yells the answer from a few feet away, they're trying to create a sense of urgency like they're so busy when I've never seen another patient here. I have been apart of 3 (or maybe 4?) birth control studies with this clinic and all of the ladies that work there are great!! They all def know their ish!! Everytime I come in they are informative, welcoming, funny and just a pleasure to be around. the ONLY downside (which is out of their control) is that there parking lot is a bitch. That's about it. Not impressed. My husband found this clinic online and it sounded impressive for women's issues. I felt like questions asked and interest shown in my situation was very cursory. Interaction with the doctor was minimal and felt very surface. Hormones were prescribed. No follow up at all. Office appears behind the times- walls of charts line the reception area. All-in-all there was nothing to help a women feel she was being treated in a "cutting edge" way. I will not be back. read more

Susan Vendeland is fantastic; she's a great listener and tells you every step of the way what she's doing during an exam; she's very gentle. I never feel rushed when meeting with her. Unfortunately I had the opposite experience with Robin Kroll; I did not feel comfortable with her at all. When I asked about get a test for low testoterone she said I had to have a partner...basically why bother. Sorry Dr. P....you were a great primary care doc, but you're skills doing a PAP could use some brushing up; also you put me on Premarin (why?)..when there are other less hormonal alternative like Estrace which I'm now on. None of the group seems to think Estriol is the way to go for post-menopausal women, although naturopaths recommend it all the time...not sure about that one.. read more

The drs here are very unhelpful. They let medical assistants do tests. The medical assistants are not qualified for. Kind of frusterating. Ive dealt with them twice and it is bad news. They pay you for your time and boy will it take it!! 50 dollars for six hours.less then minimum wage. Pretty lame if you ask me. read more

I called this office last Monday to make an appointment after being given their information directly from my insurance provider. The receptionist was happy to make an appt for me and we made one. She clearly neglected to ask me which insurance I have because after driving all the way there from West Seattle I was informed that they do NOT take my insurance. I participated in a research study at Seattle Women's. The study was interesting - it was for migraines which I suffer from. I felt the study process was smooth, easy and the doctors and staff couldn't have been nicer! They are thorough in their work and are doing good things for the field of medicine. The women who work here are WONDERFUL! I have been a research patient for over a year now, and have never felt more comfortable in a medical environment, especially when it has to do with your lady parts. Everyone is so easy to talk to, questions are encouraged, and they make sure you leave every appointment with a definite understanding of what is going on with your body. This is a research facility, nuff said. They push the drugs that they are testing on you instead of the drugs that work for you. They had me on such HIGH dose of progesterone pharmaceutical grade, that I got HIGH Blood Pressure then my eye started violently twitching and did not stop. The eye twitching was really eye jerking and it was 24/7 and did not stop. I went to a neurologist, MRI, and no one could figure out why this was happening. I finally stopped taking that progesterone that they pushed on me and my blood pressure went back to normal and the eye twitching stopped within days. I had been taking bioidentical progesteron and estrogen for years with no problems, they would NOT continue my regular prescription. Why? Because that's not what they are researching. Do not go here. This place is in it for themselves not your better health. read more

I was seen at this clinic in 2015, updated the staff with my insurance card. Due to incorrect billing, I was sent to collections. I had to call the collectors and resubmit my insurance information to have it retroactively billed. I am still battling this issue all for one visit. After not receiving the treatment I needed at planned parenthood and then calling multiple other different OB GYN doctor offices for a painful emergency I was having... this place saw me immediately despite the fact I was a new patient & they were completely booked that day. I love Dr. Kroll and all her staff. I've been there twice and I've never felled rushed. Dr. Kroll took the time to look at all my labs and listed to all my concerns. It is very hard to find someone so knowledgeable on perimenopause, menopause issues. I trust Dr. Kroll as I think she has very good credentials and she doesn't make a rushed decision on putting you on HRT. I would definitely recommend the clinic. read more

I have read several reviews here critical of the doctors and staff at Seattle Women's, and I could not disagree more. I have been receiving treatment for perimenopause/menopause here since 2008, and my care and attention received has been nothing but first-rate. In fact, whenever I have happened to mention to other health providers I have seen that my gynecologist is Dr. Robin Kroll, they almost always say, with pronounced reverence, something to the effect of "oh wow, she really knows her stuff. You are in good hands." When it comes to the field of gynecology, and menopause in particular, many doctors can still be in the stone ages when it comes to their knowledge of research and the latest and most effective therapies. This is Dr. Kroll's forte: Research. She strikes me as being thoroughly up-to-date on the complex and seemingly contradicting information that changes yearly when it comes to menopause and the best treatments to alleviate its effects. And while I can see why some women might complain that they did not get quite the warm & fuzzy treatment they were looking for, well, all I can say is there are plenty of gynecologists out there who will give you the warm & fuzzies, meantime still stuck in the 1980's when it comes to the treatment you might receive. I want a doctor who knows her stuff and provides me with the most-up-to-date treatment available. Drs' Kroll and Garcia know what they are doing, not to mention their assistant Mary, who has gone to bat for me several times when I had frustrating dealings with pharmaceutical companies, and other challenges. She did not seem rushed at all and was very personable and accessible. Mary, the aide I saw, was also very nice, and Sharon at the front desk was extremely pleasant both in person and on the phone. I called this office to schedule an appointment for some issues I was having. I saw their website and was impressed at how vast their knowledge is on women's studies so was anxious to schedule an appointment. I have had a really hard time finding an office that accepts my apple healthy plan of WA and not to mention been turned down or shunned away by other offices based on my insurance plan. I called the office and a sweet lady, I think her name was Kaylee, answered. She asked details of my problem and gave me details on how the office could help, but towards the end of our conversation she asked my insurance, which was apple health. Even though they did not accept my insurance she continued the call without hesitation and kindly went out of her way to explain how to find a provider and also gave me a number for an urgent care in my area. Most places would hang up the phone after hearing my plan but this establishment goes out of their way to help you. Once I get insurance from my work I will definitely be going there. read more
