I originally saw his father, and Dr. Ian has inherited all the skills and patience that his father had. I also go in regularly for dental hygiene with Maria, and am just as happy with her work to keep my teeth looking and feeling healthy! Maria works quickly and I always walk away feeling like I have a new set of teeth. The office is in a beautifully restored Craftsman style house near Highway 101 and also close to Poly. It is clean, calm and relaxing. The front office staff is also attentive and patient. They can navigate the intricacies of billing and scheduling with cheer and ease. Dr. Ian also works on Saturdays, and they can fit you in should you have a dental emergency. They can also recommend specialists in the area if you need further work like dental surgery. The only downside for me is that they are out of my dental insurance provider, but I still get partial reimbursement. I would never go anywhere else because the quality of the work here is worth paying a bit extra for!

I've never reviewed a dental office like this…read more Unfortunately, I have a long history of dental issues and, even worse, a string of terrible dental experiences. It took me years to find a dental office and oral surgeon I truly trusted--both of whom retired in 2017. Since my last dental visit in 2018 or 2019, I've been searching for a new provider I could feel confident about, and was not judgmental. I had a clear checklist in mind: I wanted a modern facility that keeps up with the latest technology, a fully staffed team (because that tells me the work environment is healthy and people like their jobs), a spotless office (you'd be surprised how many aren't), and a staff that exudes confidence (because if they're nervous, it makes my anxiety even worse lol). Long story, short--Aspen Dental in San Luis Obispo checked all my boxes, and then some. They never pressure me into treatments I'm uncomfortable with and provide education at whatever level you're comfortable with. For example, I like to know everything--what we're doing, why we're doing it, all the details. My husband, on the other hand, prefers to get in and out with minimal conversation. They can accommodate both of us perfectly. I recently had a two-hour deep cleaning appointment + a mouth cancer screening they offer (LOVED IT btw. Gave me peace of mind). A good chunk of that time was spent on prep and education, which I appreciated. The cleaning itself was incredibly thorough--I recommend asking to be numbed beforehand because they really get in there. Not in a bad way, just very deep and detailed. You might be a little sore afterward, but it's worth it. Also, she knew how to administer novocaine shots with minimal pain. Trust me, I know, I've had many shots that were not as pleasant. If you've made it this far--just book the appointment. Face your fears. (And if you're really nervous, 50mg of diphenhydramine about 30-60 minutes beforehand can help you relax. Thats what I did!) :)

This is not a dentist in the sense of being an actual health care provider. These are full blown…read morescam artists. They were listed on the Delta Dental website as providers (no idea why), so I made an appointment for a cleaning assuming it would be free. Big mistake. They tried to charge me $900 for a cleaning, then brought it down to $200 but didn't explain what I was paying for. When I got an itemized bill later I realized they upsold me some unnecessary mouth wash without telling me, then told me I had to come back to a second appointment to "complete my cleaning." What kind of dentist does that? I came for a cleaning so I should've left with clean teeth. They barely did anything at my actual first visit. I never went back and highly recommend you avoid these scammers. They know EXACTLY what they are doing.

However, I have been pleasantly surprised as Dr. Ng and his staff have provided me with outstanding service, even during COVID-19. I have been here for routine check-ups, cleanings, and x-rays, and also for fillings and more extensive work. All of it has been of the highest caliber and I am very pleased. I highly recommend Dr. Ng and his practice! I have a few crowns that need to be replaced and will be going back to Dr. Ng to have them done. He uses the best materials for crowns, which is very important - especially for someone like me who has bruxism and grinds my teeth at night. Dr. Ng also made a new nightguard for me that is much more comfortable and stays in my mouth. The dental hygienists are wonderful, friendly, and thorough. I have had a few of them, and all of them are outstanding. When I leave after having my teeth cleaned, they feel and look amazing. I am very pleased with this dental practice!

I am still in pain months after my work and need to get my tooth redone. I tried to reach out to the office and never got a call back. Granted, I only called once, but still, no empathy for my pain was given. I am going to a different dentist for the rework. Someone who has more experience on tooth fractures and is able to admit if they can not do a precise job without leaving exposed dentin on the back side of my tooth. He was very kind at first, but I believe this was a big money job and he was just eager to cash out rather then make sure that he could perform a more than sufficient job for his patient. After all, this is my front tooth! It is a big deal and I am going to have to live the rest of my life with this "new" tooth. I want someone who understands that the tooth should be as close to perfection as possible, not all jagged and rough and painful.

At first, I overlooked a lot of things that my gut was telling me. One instance, I inquired about something different from what I came in for, the dentist did work on it right away to my surprise, and of course deducted the cost from my prepaid funds. There were billing errors that happened more than once, being overcharged, even when they say you get a discount. Getting my refund took time because of "corporate" office approval wait. Then I get charged for "periodontal" work $184 when I received basic cleaning - I know full well the difference. I specifically told them that I only want cleaning. With my last appointment I called first to make sure, again she said $184, and I said I want cleaning only then qouted $131. Ok so I go in for basic cleaning, upon being seated, the hygienist said that I'm due for an Xray. I told her I'd rather not at this time as I had extensive work done in their office already. She said my last xray was a year ago. I said it's not necessary, then she calls in the new dentist whom I never met before, and I felt ganged up on both convincing me. I said I'm willing to do it next time or in a year. I asked if they will do cleaning without Xray for now, again they insisted with no regard to what I wanted. So I stood up and quickly walked away. The way they made me feel was awful. This was the final straw for me. I definitely relate to what others are saying about Broad St Smiles. It's a corporate dentistry in which the main focus is to generate revenue as much as possible rather than genuine patient care. Yes, BUYER BEWARE!
