I've had some difficult experiences at other dental offices in the past, so finding a place where I felt genuinely comfortable and supported meant a lot to me. I had two veneers done when I was younger and knew it was time to replace them, so choosing the right office felt like a big decision. My mom went to Dr Bauer and was sold on new dentures. While the dentures are fine putting an 87 year old woman in debt for new teeth is not. My mom has ever increasing dementia/alzheimers. If I had been aware of what she was doing last year when she did it I'd have stopped it but she covered up her issues well. Now she has a huge unnecessary debt & is in a care facility that will drain her financially but is totally necessary. The Dr didn't question the expenditure. Her orthopedic surgeon did question her on an elective procedure & talked her out of it. Love him! This one not so much. read more

I relocated to the central coast in 2023 after retiring from the SF Bay area; I had an excellent dentist there for 20+ and missed her expertise; Due to my new location and new dental plan, I tried 2 other dentists in past 2 years: both were OK, but one practiced solo with (no other dental tech assisting) and the other was referred to me but, but after I visited, I was told the actual work I needed to have done was going to be done by someone else in her practice (who I could find NO information about....) -Another dentist referred to me by some other friends was "in network" with my dental plans, but was not accepting new patients... -THEN (finally).... ANOTHER friend referred me to Bauer Dental; I did a lot of research and was impressed by their website and the technology they utilize in their practice. I set up a consult from their website, got a consultation appointment set up rather quickly, and got to meet with both dentists, Dr. Bauer and Dr. Sivo to discuss a treatment plan. I should note that they are "out of network" for most dental plans, and they did explain the costs of their treatment and options for payment plans. My decision to choose Bauer dental was based on the professionalism I experienced from my initial visit, where I met with the dentist, their office staff, and dental tech, Jose, who performed X-rays and scans. I honestly did not like the options for some of the other "in network" options offered by my dental plan. DENTAL APPOINTMENT SUMMARY: -I just had 3 cavities repaired and a replacement crown put in by Dr. Sivo, and the experience was aabsolutely painless and the work looks and feels great. Dr Sivo, and his dental technician, Alex, explained everything and answered all my questions. They have the technology to make a dental crown in their office (and since I had these types of dental crowns previously, I never wanted to go back to having a temporary crown for 2-3 weeks, and then to having to have a return for the final fitment of the permanent crown). The entire visit, including the buildup and placement of the new crown, took only 2.5 hours. I was not rushed, and neither were they- It just seemed to go that smoothly and efficiently. IN SUMMARY: Frankly, I did probably end up choosing (by FAR) the most expensive option of all the previously offices I mentioned; However, I don't recommend looking for the "cheapest" option when choosing a dentist; I do recommend doing a LOT of research. I have (unfortunately) needed a lot of work done over the decades (I am 65) and I believe in paying for high quality dental care by dentist with extensive education and training. Bauer Dental exceeded my expectations for a high tech dental office They seem to be most advanced dental office I have ever visited, utilizing the latest digital technology and high end equipment, operated by their well-trained team, and I have lived in over a dozen cities around the U.S. If this type of practice appeals to your standards, I do recommend Bauer Dental. Best dental experience I've had. I suffer from high anxiety and been traumatized before with other dental places but at Bauer Dental flipped it all around. I forgot the lady name that did my cleaning but she was amazing, gentle at all times she was telling me every tool she was using and what it was for made everything at ease. This is a lay review, unified here per Yelp rules, for patients. The following experiences, interpretations of relevant documents, and opinions are all my own. The 3-star rating averages my wife's experiences and mine. To Dr. Bauer's credit, my wife has been very pleased with her implanted bridge spanning #4 to #6. For me however outcomes varied: Particularly, on 7/29/20 Dr. Bauer set a crown on molar #30, filled #31, and treated seven other teeth. Two weeks later white fragments emerged from the gap between #30 and 31. The follow-up concluded probable food debris, area to be monitored. May 2023, 2.7 years later, both restorations shattered, fracture lines crisscrossing #30. I inquired about crown warranty and gathered clinical information. Dr. Bauer's clinical notes (7 lines) identified the #30 crown material as "Vita Tri Lux," a kind of VitaBlocs by Vita Zahnfabrik, a German dental materials manufacturer. As I read the VitaBlocs "Instructions For Use (IFU)," available from https://www.vita-zahnfabrik.com, it specifies VitaBlocs as "absolutely contraindicated for devitalized teeth of patients with hyperfunctions." Hyperfunction is grinding, clenching, etc, which apply to me. A root-canal had devitalized #30 in 2017. "Absolutely contraindicated" warns users when to use an alternative therapy, e.g. Zirconium. Unfortunately, l discovered the IFU only after the #30 crown fracture. Asked for any contraindication exceptions, Vita-Zahnfabrik listed none. Six months without warranty reply, in Dec 2023 I complained to the California Dental Board. A month later Dr. Bauer's office manager called to report that The Dentists Insurance Company (TDIC) had denied liability. The call conveyed an apology and a lesser "out of pocket" settlement offer. I proposed we appeal TDIC's unexplained denial together. Discussion ended there, and I did not get a copy of the claim. To me, California HSC §123105(d) seems to codify patient access to "records ... relating to treatment provided." Small Claims would later illuminate the denial, after the Dental Board found "no evidence of a violation of the Dental Practice Act to substantiate filing formal charges with the AG's Office." With Small Claims Court in session, Dr. Bauer emailed me copies of her evidence submitted for trial. Included was the long-sought liability denial, but without the initial claim. Highlighted material evidence included these two sentences: "Per our conversation, the consultant review states that Dr. Bauer met the standard of care, and that the restoration was satisfactory. There is no contraindication to using Vita Tri Lux in this case." To me, TDIC's conclusion seemed irreconcilable with the VitaBlocs IFU. Dr. Bauer asserted that a copy of clinical notes sufficed for a claim. My copy of her notes made no reference to the VitaBlocs IFU. In her summation Dr. Bauer blamed disuse of a night guard as a major factor for the #30 crown fracture. To me, her summation seemed mainly to emphasize my hyperfunction, a prerequisite of the absolute contraindication. Rebutting her night guard thesis I cited my gold molar (#18) that for a quarter century has withstood the very grinding and clenching that pose a risk for VitaBlocs. Of my half-dozen ceramic crowns, only the one absolutely contraindicated by its IFU has ever fractured. The VitaBlocs IFU does not mention night guards. Dr. Bauer's treatment proposal of 11/11/20 included four deep cleanings and new porcelain crowns on molars #18 and 19. Footnotes in her periopathogen report made me hesitate in order to experiment with WaterPik and weekly 0.25%-bleach rinses. My periodontal pockets have shrunk, and the old crowns on #18 and 19 still pass checkups by other dentists. In 1999 a young DDS set the gold crown on #18 and became my benchmark for this review. He billed $0, because his filling the day before had failed. In 2024, on his gold crown's silver anniversary, I wrote my 1999 dentist a belated 5-star review. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Bauer and her staff. I have had a lifetime of dental issues due to genetics (thanks Mom and Dad). I have had a number of dentists, many of them that I would call sadistic. From my first conversation with Dr. Bauer, I told her of my extreme anxiety around having dental work done. I cannot recommend Dr. Bauer. While she and her staff are polite and professional, she does not stand behind her work, and is far more expensive than any other dentist I have ever used. She installed a crown 3 years ago which after insurance cost me over $2000. The crown broke in half last week. I was told to come in and get the break evaluated, for which I was charged, was told because of the wear patterns on my teeth they would not replace it after only 3 years. My insurance will not pay for a new crown until 5 years. I left her practice 3 years ago because of their billing practices, and will be going to my new dentist, who stands behind her work, to repair Dr. Bauer's crown that failed in such a short time. read more

After recently moving to the Central Coast I needed a new dentist. After having my teeth clean, many many x-rays and a crown I wish I never would have gone to Bauer Dental. "The most common type of dental fraud is performing treatment that is unnecessary or overdone," says California dentist Dr. Mark Burhenne, founder of Ask the Dentist. This quote is my exact experience with this office. I was made to feel bad about my smile for showing too much gum. I was suddenly told I had 4 cracked teeth that needed crowns in addition to a couple cavities. They couldn't even keep track of which teeth these issues were occurring in. It seemed like ever time she looked in my mouth there was another issue. These issues didn't exist just months earlier at my old dentist in another state. She also said I needed a deep cleaning and the staff wouldn't schedule my normal cleaning unless I booked the deep cleaning that would run over $1000. My time was not valued. Everything took forever and I was often left in the room for 20+ minutes without anything going on. They were surprised when I mentioned I had to get to work... like no one works. Save your estimates. Every time I checked out the charges didn't match the estimate. When I asked for a billing statement they couldn't print it and never sent it. They just sent a bill with an amount. Had a front tooth implant that Bauer placed in one day insttead of letting it heal. It became crooked like a "buck tooth" that I had replaced by another dentist in San Luis Obispo. I wish I remembered his name as he was excellent. Also she was money mad. While looking for new primary dental office I made the mistake of going to this one which was out of network. I should have walked out right there when we realized this, but I was assured by the receptionist that they could still help me and "it wouldn't be expensive definitely not more than $75" since I was already there I agreed to get X-rays and a checkup. Later I was sent a bill that was several hundred dollars more than what I expected! On-top of the $35 I already paid that day I got the check up. I had a broken tooth that needed to be pulled. Problem was, my dentist wouldn't do it, nor his associate so they referred me to an oral surgeon....4 weeks in the Future! When I found out that this date was ONLY a consultation, I flipped! I found Dr. Bauer on Yelp. Amazingly, she could see me the next day! I went in this morning and she pulled the tooth right there and Then! The staff is professional yet warm and welcoming. Dr. Bauer is skilled and does anything from exams to extractions, crowns and root canals. I think also implants, but not positive. She's also a skilled injector of numbing meds! That's a plus. I could not have been more pleased! I'm sold. Today I made the decision to switch my dental service to her office. I know I did the right thing! read more

This practice is a complete rip off. I went in for an initial visit because I'm new to the area and in need of a new dentist. I had ZERO work done and received a bill above and beyond what my insurance paid. In all of my years I have NEVER had to pay out of pocket for a check up. After my visit I was given an estimate for what the doctor recommended. Nearly $12,000.00!! I, of course, got a second opinion from another local dentist. I did not tell the second dentist about my visit to Dr Bauer. His estimate..... $3,600. I asked about some of the treatments that were suggested by Dr Bauer and (even though this dentist also offers the same treatments) said that they were not necessary. As for positives, the hygienist/dental assistant was very nice and knowledgeable. The front office staff were also very nice. The office is also beautiful. The final straw for me was Dr Bauer's apparent lack of interest in me as a new patient. I was there for over an hour but she only spent about 10 mins with me and was not friendly at all. I'm sure Dr Bauer is a very capable dentist, but I would highly recommend one of the many other capable dentists in the area that are eager to become your new dentist and that won't grossly overcharge and over recommend treatments. read more

I needed an emergency root canal. They were able to get me in same day, and the whole staff understood my anxiety and went above and beyond to calm my nerves. I waited way too long, partly due to finances, mostly due to fear, and I had an infection, which caused pain through the procedure. Dr. Bauer numbed me the best she could and the pain was minimal. In the instance I did have pain, Juan didn't hesitate to reach over and hold my hand. The care and attention I received from this staff has helped my fear and anxiety. The dental care I receive is always good. I just wanted to warn you to check your bill. I was charged the amount that the dentist was supposed to write off , which is an agreement between the insurance company and the dentist. Then when I inquired about the charge the response was defensive and non apologetic for the error. read more

After moving to Arroyo Grande from Colorado a few years ago I was in the market for a new Dentist. What do you look for in a dentist you ask? Well, for me was a staff who care, a knowledgeable dentist, up to date equipment, and reasonable costs. Creekside dental hit all these for me and my family. A few other things I like here: - can listen to satellite radio - which I always turn down :) - seems like up to date and latest technology - they remember me and my family. - they get it done right (dentistry), little to no pain - (my favorite) they text me a few times before my appt to remind me. Don't get me wrong. I don't necessarily like or want to go to the dentist. However, you need to go so pick a great practice. Try them out and se for yourself. read more

If I could put 0 stars I would. I went in for a routine filling and they were 20 minutes late getting me in. I understand that they are a busy office so I didn't mind waiting. But when I finally got in the chair they numbed me and left me in the room for 45 MINUTES without anyone coming to check on me or let me know they were running behind. Dr. Bauer's bedside manner is horrible and she was rough on my mouth. She didn't explain anything that she was doing. For what I paid for, I would be expect top notch professionalism and care. Their care changed towards me when I refused their cosmetic sales pitch on wanting to fix a tiny gap in my teeth. I ended up with an unexpected bill for over a thousand dollars and there is nothing they can do about it because is an "estimate". After years and years of getting (not so good as it turned out) recommendations for dentists - I went to Creekside Dental on a hunch; no recommendation. I'm glad I did. As a child in the 50's my dental experience was painful, with sore teeth for days. And to boot I had an accident that resulted in more dental work and lots of pain and discomfort. Like most folks wanting to avoid unnecessary pain, I developed an aversion to going to the dentist. That has all changed with Dr. Bauer and her staff at Creekside. I no longer have the anxiety. Dr. Bauer was interested in my history and took the time needed to determine how best to help me. I know she will make me as comfortable and relaxed as possible no matter what treatment I need. I've found her and the staff here to be professional and friendly. Yes, they have products to sell, yet I've never felt pressured to buy anything. I can't say enough about how glad I am I went through the Invisalign process. Did I tell you I am glad? Now I'm smiling all the time. Kinda shocked about the before pics looking back. I never realized how misaligned my teeth were. I LOVE my new smile! I have more confidence and no longer put my hand over my mouth when I laugh.
