The cherries were so fresh, sweet & juicy.......this from "sampling a few" which is also part of the fun of u-pick........that and pit-spittin' contests! The orchard is a laid back place with plenty of other varieties of fruit to pick and/or sample. Or simply just to purchase pre-picked. Different fruits have different "peak" seasons for harvesting so do some research and then go and enjoy nature's bounty.

My son loved the whole place, they employ lively folks, the atmosphere is friendly and productive and fast paced and I FINALLY have a patch I'll go every year for pumpkins and fun. Let's be perfectly honest, there aren't a lot of pumpkin patches near this area that are this much fun. Their hay ride is fast and wild and you get to chuck pumpkins at things! Their pumpkin train is also fast and fun and has cushioned seats! There are goats to love, face painting, a hay maze, the classic corn maze and the pumpkin slingshots are hard to walk away from. The produce is high quality and well priced. The haunted experience was extensive, it goes around the whole farm so it's like doing multiple haunted houses. The actors were awesome. They take into consideration the best way to have fun and there is obvious love in this endeavor. Right under I5, the space is utilized to it's last inch and conveniently located. Passed the tase test with flying colors! Also noticed the freshest basil I have ever seen at a farm stand. And now, I can say, it was more than amazing in our tomato sauce. Wonder how they kept it so fresh? The farm also sells honey, organic popsicles, dried blue and assortment veggies. June brings blueberries picking time. Imagine, organic berries that you can pick. I'd do it in a heartbeat if we were in the area. This is a must see if you enjoy tasteful organic produce.

Fortunately, the nice lady manning the shop said we were still welcome to try the shriveled up berries and look around the farm. My friend and I really enjoyed seeing all the fruit trees, strawberries, rainbow chard (beautiful!), etc. The little shop with fresh farm fares was nice as well. They sell local honey and blueberry popsicles (they were $2 and so-so... I would pass on them if I were torn about whether to try them or not). In any case, the folks here are really nice. They offered my friend and me a slice of watermelon the farmers had been trying; I was warned that it was the tail end of watermelon season so they wouldn't be that great, but it was good enough. Also, apparently, the head farmer is only 26 and from Chicago. So random!

I discovered LWF at the Eugene Farmers Market this past winter. Their Dakota Black popcorn caught…read moremy eye....I'm a popcorn fanatic! I bought a bag and also some very grainy and lovely colored polenta. I took my goodies home and anxiously made some popcorn. I stopped using canola oil because I learned it is not meant for high heat cooking. I only had olive oil and used it instead. I had no idea what was wrong w/ my popcorn until after a few failed attempts to make it and failed. I had used up almost all my kernels. I emailed LWF and was told olive oil doesn't get hot enough and so the oil wouldn't work w/ the popcorn. I visited the Eugene Farmers Market again this past Jan. and decided to get some more polenta and popcorn. The owner was so kind to remember my email and problem...she gave me a free bag of popcorn and suggested I try coconut oil. My popcorn pops perfectly and the taste is amazing. beautiful white puffs of corn w/ a lovely black shell. The polenta is very nice too. I found I have to use less water than the recipe calls for but it cooks very nicely! BIG FAN OF LONESOME WHISTLE!

The really special wine is only available to farm family (wine club) members. Today we sampled the 2017 offerings paired with the tastiest morsels prepared in the cottage kitchen. We warmed up in front of the open fireplace and enjoyed the other guests company while Stephen, big beard and all, floated around. Do take a group and visit for the full farm/vineyard experience or make sure to drop in on one of the few days it's open to the general public. It's so worth the trip.
