It was a small job, about 500 square feet of pavers to be installed in our back patio area. The salesperson showed up on a Friday afternoon, measured, quoted, showed product samples, we made selections, and paid the down payment. By the following Friday, they were done. This may have been a smaller-than-usual job, but to have it done from quotes to complete in one week is amazing. And it was done well. I watched. They did all the work they quoted, took care to make it functional (drainage) and good looking. Plus, they came in about 2/3 or less of other competitive quotes for the job. Had a contract with this company for large IPE deck restoration. The price was agreed upon and the only thing holding up the project was to get samples so I could pick out a color. However I was then told that the small sample sizes ($10/apiece) were no longer available and I would have to pick from the brochure they sent me. I called companies involved and was told that the small sample sized stains were available. I was lied to and when I tried to reach Amy C. (project coordinator) she never returned my call and neither did the manager. If I cannot get in touch with them to finish a project imagine what would happen once the project starts. The first thing I did when I moved into our home about 10 years ago was to rebuild my deck. I called in a handyman who replaced a few boards. I then went to Home Depot and bought Deck Cover to finish up the job. Spending only $2,500, I thought I now had a near-permanent fix. Fast forward one year and the Deck Cover was flacking in several areas of the deck. No problem. I spent another $200 and did my second coat. Two more years later, I had to do another coat for another $200. So much for near-permanent. Two years ago, some of the boards were starting to rot. Some of the wood rails fell off, and the Deck Cover was starting to look terrible. Bunmi from Deck Guru explained that the problem was that the wood has to be 100% dry or the moisture in the wood will cause the boards to rot from the inside. Also, the Deck Cover won't stick well if the wood is damp as the Deck Cover is trapping the moisture inside. She explained that I could replace the bad boards and paint the deck with better paint but that over time, I would be doing it again. She suggested I use Trex which is a composite board. I had expected the composite to look like plastic but she showed me some samples and the material looked very convincing to me. She showed me several grades. Obviously, the more expensive offerings were prettier but I choose the most basic Trex offering. Bunmi assured me that even the most basic Trex offered a 25-year warranty and Deck Guru was an authorized Trex installer. I decided to wait until the end of the season as I reasoned I could get a better deal when the weather was cold. Little did I know that the current supply chain issues were working against me. By the time I went ahead with the project, the cost of Trex had gone up. The materials for the deck were dropped off a day before the work began. The work went very quickly. The deck was done in two days. Everything was clean and ready to go. Fortunately, the weather was good enough that I got a chance to inspect the deck before snow and rain covered the deck for the next two months. I was very surprised by how well the deck was finished. Trim pieces were used so that every view of the plex was covered. The way the job was done, the most basic Trex looked very premium to me. This week, the weather has finally started to improve. The sun is out and the deck looks great. This is the first spring that I looked at the deck without thinking about having to do more work. My deck is now much better as I have new Trex rails and a privacy fence that was not there in the past. I now have a beautiful deck that doesn't look like a work in progress. Had I called Deck Guru 10 years ago, I could have saved myself a lot of effort and money. read more

I'm giving Deck-Guru 5/5 stars. I will break down this review into 2 parts: job and service. Job: On their first visit, the contractors didn't do a great job. However, the company stood by their promise and asked the contractors to return to fix their errors without charging me more money. The finished job looks great now, and I am very happy. I'm posting pictures showing the excellent work. I had 3 jobs done: First, the deck floor was sanded and stained. The contractors returned to touch up uneven/dried out edges (see pics). They gave me the leftover stain for future use. Second, edges of the new post were sanded to look just like the old posts (see pics). The post was stained all the way to the ground. Third, all the posts were properly sanded and then stained (see pics). Being first time a homeowner, I was inexperience and did not discuss all the job details with the contractors on their first visit. Hence, these guys might have thought I wanted to cheat them with my requests, and so they were unhappy with me on their first visit. However, on their second visit, I chatted with them to resolve all the required tasks. Now, we are pretty much best buddies. =) I recommend that you check all the requirements with the contractors. It's unavoidable that there will be some miscommunication on their list and your contract. Fair's fair though, I give credit to Deck-Guru for correcting their mistakes. Service: Their salesperson Drew was very helpful. He didn't upsell me anything that the deck didn't need fixing. I appreciate his honesty. Deck-Guru operational manager Amy was also very helpful, she was on the phone with me as I was talking with the contractors. She made sure that all the listed items on my contract were completed. I appreciate her help and patience with me (by trade, I'm in the research industry, and so I'm a very difficult person as I don't like subpar results). Lastly, I talked with Deck-Guru owner, and he apologized for their mistakes during contractor's first visit. I appreciate owner who reached out to their customers. I must say that you won't be disappointed with Deck-Guru. Side note: Some negative reviews complained that Deck-Guru requires a job priced at least $2500 and/or Deck-Guru doesn't do certain types of repairs. Personally, I didn't find these comments useful, because they didn't mention how the company would treat you when you don't like how the job was first done. read more

This company did an excellent job rebuilding our deck using Trex material. They worked fast and efficiently, and Vincent, the on-site foreman, couldn't have been better. He was very accommodating, solved every problem that came up, and provided solutions to issues we raised. He went above and beyond to give us the deck we wanted, looking exactly the way we wanted it to look. And the company kept in touch by phone, e-mails and texts during the entire process. read more

I received a coupon in the mail and thought I'd call to get an estimate. They advertise on the coupon that they do deck restoration, repair and upgrade. However, when I got a call back I was told that they only do jobs more than $2500. So, their ad is very misleading since how many deck restorations (which is about replacing boards and fixing nails) starts at $2500? They said they won't send anyone out to a job if it's not more than $2500. If that is the case then they need to put that in their advertising and on their coupons so they don't mislead people and waste their time. It gives me a bad feeling when a company operates like this. read more

Beware Deck Guru. Bunmi, the estimator came to measure and give me a price. She went over what I wanted and came back again to go over what I expected.I noticed the workman were packing up and a 2 X 4 was exposed around the apron of the seats. Very obvious. Larry , the contractor, not an employee, told me it was not included.Under duress with a recent cancer diagnosis, I was compelled to go along.Where would I find Trec and a workman who knew how to install it? They wanted to charge me $500. plus. It looked terrible as one walked out of the house onto the deck.Larry took a before and after picture and sent it to Amy, a supervisor who replied, "That should have been done.They were short one piece of Trec. She reduced the charge to $374.. She would not return my call for three weeks and finally texted me that the $ 374. would not be refunded. read more
