She was just like, "You need a crown, you need this, you need that" and I was like whoa! Why? Then she finally started explaining. Then I told her I had TMJ and she said she didn't like mouth guards (gave no reason why) and that she liked Botox. I said ok give me a quote. At the front they told me $600-$800!! And that's every few months. No wonder she doesn't like mouth guards. Anyway, after that visit I didn't want to go back, but a couple months went by and I got desperate and tried to make an appointment. Guess what? No one answered the phone, no one called back my voicemails. After weeks of calling and no response, I gave up and found another dentist, but I needed my X-rays. I even pretended I was requesting an appointment online, still no response. I had to change my appointment with new dentist because this office wouldn't answer and wouldn't respond to me. Before I get started on the nitty gritty details, I want to stress that I research any doctor BEFORE I even step foot in their office. After my first appointment, which was an incredibly thorough evaluation, I returned home and told my Mom to make an appointment to come see him ASAP. I want to point out that my Mom had the exact same reaction to both his office staff and him as I did. They are both keepers. We actually tried to reschedule our return trip to NYC in order to complete some of my dental work with Dr. Schwartz. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, it simply was not possible. However, despite that fact, I was able to complete the vast majority of work that needed to be done in my mouth. In fact, I was there today, and will be back in two days time, just so Dr. Schwartz can complete as much as possible before I leave Florida. I have very few rules that I live by (okay, I am stretching the true here a bit) but one of the rules I most believe in, is in not going to a dentist twice in one week. My mom went to Sage Dental office located in East Boca to get partial dentures. After many years using the same model, she decided to change the material, which was called Valplast. Once the process began, as the weeks went by, the work dragged on for more than 5 months, when a partial denture normally takes between 2 and 3 weeks to make. The delays started with the dentist's personal vacations, the waiting time for the dentures, the lack of communication regarding the partial measurements, etc. When they finally delivered the dentures, they didn't fit properly because there was a problem with the measurements, and they were sent back to the lab for adjustments. AFTER THE SECOND DELIVERY my mother informed DR. MELANIE SCARFONE THAT SHE WAS IN PAIN EVERY TIME SHE USES THE PARTIAL DENTURE, THEY WERE TOO TIGHT AND SHE WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THEM. DR. MELANIE SCARFONE suggested soaking the partials in warm water to loosen them and coming back for adjustments. With each adjustment, DR. MELANIE SCARFONE pushed the partials down between her gums, causing scratches and a light bleeding in her gums which obviously increased more discomfort and pain. When my mom left the office, she couldn't even eat because her mouth was so sore. After so much back and forth, I told DR. MELANIE SCARFONE that my mother wasn't satisfied with the work, and she acknowledged it. She told my mother that she didn't think she could meet her expectations for the partials and therefore was going to give her a refund. Both parties agreed, and I said, "That sounds good, but in order to do that, I need the management at Sage Dental to give me a letter of guarantee specifying that my mother will return the partials as long as SAGE DENTAL refund the money back to my insurance signed and stamped by your management team. The answer was NO and my request DENIED. I told them every time that my mom has no problem returning the partials as long as the insurance receives its refund formally. They told me to contact the PATIENT QUALITY CONTROL DEPARTMENT, and after all these months I had only spoken with Lory/Laurie twice, who is THE COMPLAINTS DPT DIRECTOR MANAGEMENT at Sage Dental offices. It must be emphasized that she is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL in every sense of the word. The two times I have spoken with her; she has not been able to offer a favorable option or solution for my mother to get her partials.
