With my friends wedding coming up quick and my regular hairstylist working the wedding party, I was in a bind to find a qualified professional to do an updo fitting for my formal gown. I browsed yelp for an hour, read reviews, checked pictures and narrowed down on my top 3 salons closest to her venue. Studio Nails & Hair in Oceanside was my first call, and only call! Requesting to speak to Dee, (not realizing she was the owner), I immediately informed her of a picture I saw on yelp of an updo done by her. Complimented her on her quality and proceeded to discuss my predicament. She quickly confirmed the fast approaching date and time needed (2-3 days after call), without hesitation. Once the big day arrived, I was running about 2 hours behind schedule. I called and notified Dee of my unexpected updated ETA and asked if she could still accommodate me for a later appointment. She again said without hesitation, not a problem, I will see you then. Once in route from Lake Arrowhead (my secondary residence), I missed my exit and ended up having to driving an extra 30 mins around to catch the next freeway. I quickly called to inform and beg her to still be seen as it was crunch time. Dee fully understood and assured me that I'd be seen, but may have to wait as she started on her next scheduled client. I said not a problem and I couldn't thank her enough for still fitting me in. Once Dee finished with my hair, (which was STUNNING BY THE WAY! Please see pictures below), she assisted with getting me into my gown. Fully ready and about to head on my way, I had a fashion emergency, I split my zipper in my T-back gown. Dee, her assistant and her CLIENT, saw the fear and panic in my face and eagerly tried to help me! We tried for 20 mins but the zipper wouldn't budge. With a gaping hole in my back from mid to lower, I was panicked! But my hair looked perfect!!!! I quickly remembered I had a plethora of safety pins in my purse (don't recall why, lol), Dee said let's give it a try! The 3 women pinned me up without question and got me on my way. I also had a shall I used as a wrap to hide the back. If it wasn't for Dee, her assistant and her client, I wouldn't have made it to my friends wedding! If it wasn't for Dee working so hard to accommodate my extremely busy and hectic schedule and specific needs I wouldn't have had picture perfect hair for her wedding! Dee is great at cutting and doing hair! BUT when it comes to people with kids.. Not so much! I loved going to Dee's even though I had to wait forever either for an appointment or for her to actually get started on my hair.... She has no help it's just her... But I didn't mind.. But I recently STOPPED going because..... My son had got sick the day of my appoint and I had to cancel last min... When I text her to let her know I cannot come in.. She was rude and tried to make me feel bad for canceling on her?!?! My respond was wow My son is sick and what did you expect?? She told me, you have cancelled last min before.. But I have a son and I have other things in life that are more important than getting my hair done! I heard about Dee from a co-worker who has incredibly beautiful blond hair that looked natural. I also liked the fact that she works for herself, an independent small business owner. What I didn't know was her business practice ethic. I set up an appointment for highlights two weeks prior, a few days before my wedding. I work 50-60 hr weekdays and weekends were the only available time. Dee stated she doesn't work on Sundays so I booked for Sat at 1100. The day before, I went out to dinner and left my phone at home. When I returned at 10pm, there were text msgs and phone calls from Dee timed at 722 pm. The msg stated she had another client who needed to get her hair done and wanted to know if I would show up for the 1100 appointment. I texted back and confirmed the time. She texted back stated "I'm sorry but I thought you weren't coming and couldn't wait. I tried calling and texted twice. If you want, I can see you around 5PM." I already had a gathering to attend and I was flying out in two days. I find this kind of business practice very unethical and unreliable. Just because I didn't text back within 3 hrs, give away an appointment I made two weeks ago? Her preference of one client over me totally turned me off. I found this very disrespectful of my time, for a career woman who has very little time to squeeze in a "me time." I recently got my hair done by Dee and she is amazing!!!! Her salon is so clean and very inviting. I have had zero scheduling conflicts with her and she always makes time to accommodate the needs of her clients. She produces quality work and I have never been disappointed. If I could I would give her 5++++++ stars. She truly has passion for the work she does and genuinely cares about her clients being 110% satisfied.
