We love Mr. Aiden! My 2 y/o looks forward to swim class every week. Me Aiden is so patient and caring to our little one. My favorite is that he talks to her (aka coaches her) and guides her through practice. I would get so stressed bc I never learned to swim but Mr. Aiden teaching our daughter is so relieving. Pool is warm and sessions are 20min which is nice. The admin staff is very friendly too. It is a bit expensive that's my only thing but hopefully it's bc the staff gets paid well :) read more

I am very disappointed. We had signed up for the Belmont location as it's 5min from our house. Really liked the staff but it was just a pain as they had to move most of their classes to the Bixby location. I didn't want to move the classes as it would Take over 25min to get there at that time of day. So after a couple weeks and changing instructors, they asked again if we can move to Bixby. So left us no choice but to cancel. They had already charged our card and when I asked for a refund for the last class they wouldn't credit it. I understand no refunds but when its not due to us, that's pretty crappy. We had no choice and had to cancel. Unfortunately, unreliable and inconsistent. read more

Highly recommend their Baby Love swim lessons! These are free for babies ages 3 to 5 months. We found out about these a little late so we only got to go after she was 4 months. Would have started here even younger if we knew. She's made progress in a short period of time too. The instructors have been great with the little ones. I did slip into the deep end one time, hence the reason for 4 stars because the other location might be better suited for us than this one. It's cleaner, bigger, and parking isn't as stressful haha. This one is closer though so we'll see. We'll be continuing onto their paid classes for older babies and I can update my review then depending on which location we end up at. read more

This is my scuba shop in the LA area. I don't trust my gear or myself with anyone else. I bought my first full scuba set up from them in 2012, and still love it! They have great service and very helpful retail workers. They also have some of the best gear around. I love all the things I've gotten from here over the years. They have monthly clean-ups at Belmont Pier and always host a section of the annual Catalina Underwater Clean-up. They have a great scuba club that meets monthly for talks, hanging out, gear demonstrations, etc. The dive club also takes dive trips together to incredible, foreign journeys! read more

Stopped in to drop gear for repair/reconfiguration. Shop is closing for renovations so not taking any gear for repair right now, but owner Jonathan was there and invited me in. We chatted a bit, and he ended up doing a quick install of a part on my BC, and also changed the battery on my computer. It was a quick service, but went over and above on customer care. He could have sent me on my way, but took the time to connect with me and do the couple easy things that would get me back in the water. This shop has been around for decades and is one of the oldest in the country (my parents were certified there in the 60's). Their commitment to customers and support of the sport are the reason for their longevity. 10/10 would recommend them for instruction, service, and gear. read more

I took a discover scuba diving class here recently. I was nervous about it. I was instructed on the gear, what we were going to be doing In the pool and other important info. I put the gear on, got in the pool. As soon as I went under and tried to breathe I started to freak. HEAVY AND LABORED. I almost gave up, very close. My Dive Instructor Jodie, God bless her, she got me back under, coached me (under water) to take nice easy breaths. A few minutes later, cleared mask, cleared regulator, ears. A 1/2 hour later I was playing catch with a torpedo toy in the deep end. I had such a good time. I will be getting my cert from Deep Blue. You Rock Jodie! read more

My friend and I got all of our scuba gear and our Open Water PADI certification at Deep Blue and we truly had the best time. Our instructors were incredibly patient and very good teachers and made us feel super comfortable both in the pool and the ocean. I would give this company a zero rating if I could. I purchased two packages for scuba diving lessons in May 2022. I wrote them a few days later and stated that my young daughter was too afraid to begin the lessons. Was there any type of reimbursement or credit that could be issued. My email went unanswered. I then called no answer. Therefore, I called my credit card to try to fight the charges since I wasn't getting a response. They put a claim out but because on the receipt states no reimbursements on lessons. There was nothing that can be done. Chase credit card paid $950 for lessons in full and I still can't get a phone call as of today February 14, 2023. I wrote additional letters in the 2022 and again in 2023. I now stated my daughters is a little older, she's willing to give the lesson a try. Let's go ahead and move forward. Send me the link to take the course online so we can get into the swimming pool. Still no response from the company or via telephone. I then called Chase credit card again and said lets fight the charges. They're not honoring our lessons. Chase replied because they already initially tried to get the money from them and it had been past six months. I am stuck with $950 of unused lessons. Who would want to take lessons from a company that willingly and knowingly knew that they can get out of it at some point. I do not recommend signing up for this unless you truly intend to. I am stuck losing the full amount of money for now. What they don't know about me is that I am very familiar with the court system and this is considered a civil claim, see you in court it's only $50 bucks to file. My credit card paid them, they are not responding to me about the lessons, and it is still within the legal realm of their one year agreement as stated in their receipt. I specifically told her that I was looking for scuba masks and have no experience in how to look for the correct fit or even what to look for when looking for a mask and was not helpful. Took my pre-school aged child for a swim lesson tonight with Scott at the recommendation of a friend. Ever seen the child screaming and crying through an entire lesson? That's typically my child, but not tonight with Scott! Scott immediately gained rapport and trust with my child. He talked through everything so there were no surprises. Although he pushed to ensure there was learning, he didn't push to the point of breakdown. My child actually left the lesson smiling and excited to see what stickers he would earn in his new swim school book. WHAT!?! All the thoughts on the drive over about how I wasn't going to make this far of a drive (35-40 min) for swim lessons or pay this much money immediately went out the window and all became worth it!! The other people we met at Deep Blue were also very nice and helpful. Malia checked us in and was really friendly. Nick was super sweet talking and laughing with my child while I filled out paperwork and the owners stopped over to say hello. Will have to see how things go over the next few weeks, but Scott and the rest of the team at Deep Blue exceeded our expectations for outcomes and customer service. Thank you, Deep Blue! read more

This review is for their dive retail. Let me begin by saying the customer service is absolutely one of the best I've ever seen. Very friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable. An O/W student would feel very comfortable here. This shop is definitely an ideal place for beginners to get their feet wet for the first time. With that said, their product stock (particularly the items that a student would need) has a bit of a lower selection, and seems to consist heavily of Atomic products. Though I don't have any personal experience with Atomic, I've always known the brand to have a solid reputation, and I have nothing against it. However, it is also a very EXPENSIVE company. This presents a challenge for new students as they try to find appropriate, yet budget-friendly items to purchase for their class. From a consumer perspective, this is probably the only thing I would say needs some improvement. read more

Our experience at Deep Blue Swim Center was disappointing to say the least... I lost count of how many different teachers we were was given... As well, the lessons are only 20 minutes in length and more often then not they were cut short... our last lesson was 11 minutes long! The lesson prior to that was cut short by 5 minutes! It didn't help that during the lesson the swim instructors would socialize... therefore you can imagine progress was very slow. Not a professional outfit whatsoever. read more

Our baby girl loves the water! Started out when she was 3 months old. She is now going on 9 months. Free classes from ages 3-5months, then $20 a class after that. Totally worth it. The instructors are amazing and with parent and me classes, I'm in the water with her. The instructors make the class feel welcoming and entertaining for the babies, so they associate swimming with play. Not only does she get to socialize with other babies, but also the parents. I would recommend these classes. She holds her breathe under water, can float and she is exhausted after class. Naps for up to 2hrs!! read more

I cannot recommend Mr. Myles enough! We started my daughter in Deep Blue's "Parent and Me" swim class when she was almost 16 months old to help her get over her fear of the water. Now, almost a year later, she is absolutely obsessed with the water and constantly talks about swim class, what she's learned, practices/demonstrates in the bath (or pool or even just on the floor), and will just talk about Mr. Myles too. It is absolutely amazing how far she has come - and it is all thanks to the patience, attentiveness and gentle pushing of Mr. Myles. It is very hard to find someone that gives toddlers the level of respect and understanding that he does - which is so crucial as they try out a new skill in a new environment with new people. My 2-year-old trusts him even more than she trusts me in the pool. We are soooo sad to be moving and ending our regular swim classes here, but it is SO amazing to see how far she has come in less than a year. read more

The only reason I give three stars is due to the bad experience I had with my open water instructor, Jaclyn & her poor performance as an instructor. To be honest the overall service was really good. Matt the manager was a great guy, super friendly & great customer service. The crew aboard the westerly which was the boat we took to Catalina for the boat dive were great, they even waited for a couple of minutes cause I was late, which I'm truly grateful for! My instructor Jaclyn however lacked energy and enthusiasm while teaching. She makes teaching us seem like a burden. She also gets annoyed very quickly if we don't get it the first time. At one point, for the controlled emergency swimming ascend, she actually yelled at me for inflating using the BCD instead of orally which is hardly a mistake worth yelling for. Her classes are dull and often times discomforting cause you can't ask her things if you're not sure or confused. On several occasions I get sarcastic responses to genuine questions. Sometimes I'm not sure if she gives me shit because I'm a slow learner or because I'm a foreigner. Either ways, we're all here to learn and to treat students as such is truly unprofessional. Personally she ruined my open water experience. For the second pool dive however, she had called in sick and the dive tech, Josh filled in for her. I only wish he could have been my instructor. He was much more enthusiastic and passionate about teaching. He made the lesson much more informative, interactive and fun at the same time. I would strongly recommend him instead of her if you guys have the chance pick. read more

I did my Open Water Scuba Diving Certification here this past week, and I can't recommend Deep Blue enough! I also bought all of my gear here and Matt was awesome in assisting me (I googled everything I bought afterward to compare prices, and their prices were very fair) with his recommendations, which were invaluable. We did two of our four dives in their indoor pool, which is heated to 91 degrees and has an ozone filter (look Ma - no chlorine!). We didn't even have to rinse off our gear afterwards. Trust me on this, it's a hastle to rinse off all of your scuba gear after being in the pool and underwater for hours. And it's heated, too (I have nightmares from being a kid and screaming till my head come off because of the icy cold water at Belmont Pool). Eric and Lindsay were fabulous instructors and really cared about us. Both awesome instructors! The numerous times I've been in the shop the owner John always has a few of his family either working there or hanging out. A few times I hung around for a bit to talk some shop. Such a great environment run by great people. My Pops will be back to get his diving certification in the next few weeks because of how amazing everyone was here. Thank you Deep Blue!!! read more

My wife and I bought a Groupon for an open water certification class at another store, and the customer service was miserable (high-pressure bait-and-switch upsells, abrasive attitudes, and not enough time to answer our questions), so we stopped by Deep Blue to see if we'd rather buy our gear there. We definitely made the right choice. The customer service was outstanding. We've dealt with three people there so far, and all of them were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. They even did research to find a very specific mask my wife needed at other local stores so she could have it in time for the class. I wish we'd purchased the class from Deep Blue, but we'll definitely be going back for all our gear. Oh-about that, they cram an awful lot of gear into a small space, and while they'll explain the pros and cons of everything in the store, they don't push the upsells like other stores. They've been nothing but respectful and responsible, all the way. read more

Deep Blue is awesome! I went through Deep Blue to do my open water and advanced scuba certifications. For both certifications the instructors (Josh and John) were fantastic. They were knowledgable, good at teaching, and made me feel safe. All of the staff I have interacted with at the store have been great. They answer my endless questions and have given super helpful advice for diving plans outside of the area. I am going on an international scuba trip with them in March and planning for that has also been super easy. Also, I originally wasn't planning to buy my gear through Deep Blue because I assumed it would be much more expensive than alternative places. But the people at Deep Blue helped me come up with what I needed and after the 10% discount for students it was literally the exact same price as it would have been at a discount place for the same things. After figuring that out I buy everything directly from Deep Blue because I would much rather support them, especially when it doesn't add a lot of extra cost. Just finished my Rescue Diver cert with Eric, and Lindsay (who did the EFR training). The instruction was very professional, and we still had a great time in the process. With all the choices for scuba diving shops in So Cal, I have had the opportunity to train with, and dive with a lot of different outfits. This is the best I've found! The instructors are not intimidating, or "holier than thou", and they seem like they are really just doing it because it's what they love to do. They're a fun-loving, easy going group. This review comes with a heavy heart:( I always try to be reasonable. They did get me gear back in a timely fashion, that's why the 2 star and not 1. I'm a rescue diver and working toward my Master Diver certification. I had my gear serviced by Deep Blue in April right before a May trip to Roatan for 7 days of diving. My transmitter stopped relaying tank pressure signal to my D4i on about dive 10 of the trip. I had Sport Chalet in Valencia check it, maybe Deep Blue forgot to change the battery? They told me the transmitter had been flooded and is not repairable. When I checked with Deep Blue, they said it was serviced by them and to bring it in so they can check it. Well it is ruined. They sold me a new one at a 20% discount, but takes no responsibility for the damage, saying that it probably got wet through my reg. Because I've had all the same 1st, 2nd and Suunto transmitter for 2 years and never a problem. Just saying, seems likely that they have some liability. .. they lost my business and I will never refer them! Just glad they didn't screw up my regulator and leave me working a buddy to surface in Roatan. The crew in the shop were very cool, but someone running the place needs to man up and take responsibility. Probably good until they have to accept some responsibility. Shame on Deep Blue! My son (who is 4) took private lessons here for 3 months and for some reason they don't teach gliding before rolling and floating. This meant every time he was in the water he was sort of running because he wasn't taught to glide, before attempting to teach him to roll. This meant for weeks my son jumped dove in from the seat on the pool, did a sort of running motion and then reached out for his instructor to grab him And then lifted his head and gasped in fear. I'm sure they have reasons but most level 1 swim lessons the kid learns to glide two body lengths, float on their back and then roll . He struggled for a couple months getting stuck on learning to roll for weeks we pulled him out and took him to another aquatics center. The first day he was taught to glide so was no longer running and putting himself in an up a vertical position when he got into the pool, they also showed him the proper place to put his arms when jumping into the pool, as well as demonstrated what he should be doing by physically doing it in the water. His instructor at deep blue were asking him to do something he had never even seen her do and he struggled to figure out the very thing he was able to do in one lesson at a new aquatics center. 2 stars because I'm sure their method does work well for some kids. Lots of young swimmers in the pool but it didn't work for my son. He told me thank you for switching him because they were telling him to do things that were too hard. On the way into the new swim center he was scared because he said he couldn't do his rolls. I wish the teacher had changed the method when it wasn't working for him after two months so we wouldn't have had to switch locations. He did learn good breath control and was more confident than when he started. When I told them I was pulling him out because my son wasn't progressing they said well we don't give refunds so do you just want to finish want your paid for or you can come back when you are done with you new lessons. So basically they gave me a credit for something that doesn't work for my child. So basically he has to learn to swim somewhere else and the go back to use what I've already paid for or continue to struggle with the same method of instruction dreading swim lessons. read more

Sheldon and the rest of the staff went above and beyond to get me OW certified before I had to start my AAUS class when most of the other shops in the area said they couldn't help me in the timeframe I had (2 weeks). Very professional, knowledgable, thorough, and friendly. Also, if you need to purchase any gear they will steer you in the right direction based on your needs, they won't try to sell you any unnecessary or overpriced products. CRAZY PRICING! I like Deep Blue. I got certified at Deep Blue when the original owner(s) ran the store. I felt like I got a good deal and the certification was really great. Recently, I stopped by to ask if they would check out my BCD. I have not used my BCD since they had done some repair work a few years back. The counter guy did not want to even touch it,,, I understand RISK but REALLY?. He let me hook it to a tank,,, seemed fine,, then he let me know that my dive computer needed a new battery. COST $68 installed. I was stunned,,,, I know years and years of battery changing experience and certifications... for changing batteries. The counter guy proceed to let me know that the BCD O rings should be checked,,, I agree,,, price $300+. REALLY??? OK,,, I get it,,, life saving device,,, BUT... I think the pricing is VERY expensive and it's not a "get what you pay for" kinda thing... I went home watched a video from Suunto and replaced the battery by myself for $6.97. If I were on a dive in the middle of know where,,, same deal. I am now watching videos about BCD safety and how to check things myself... I think this actually is a better way to go and if I have questions I can go from there. LASTLY: I think a maintenance program for gear bought at your store could really be a win/win for Deep Blue and the locals that support the store. How awesome would it be to lock a customer in for life with an honest look at gear, suggestions on usage and upgrades each year for free or a low price? Love the experience of my scuba diving class! It's fun, and it makes me feel confident for the open water dives. Although I wouldn't say they charge less than other places, but they make your money worth. If your time is very limited just like me., they can make it works for your schedule. Very quick response, professional, and my instructor made the class experience fun! I'd highly recommend Lindsay. As a swimmer, I am so used to having all the control when I'm in the water, but when it comes to scuba diving, at first I could t get used to having that heavy tank on my back, but Lindsay wouldn't rush me, instead she encouraged me to keep trying until I feel comfortable and move on to the next skill. read more

Just finished the underwater cleanup for Earth Day with Deep Blue. I was totally impressed with how organized the event was and how the event coordinators showed up on time to set up their tent and had all of the sign up information ready to go. They brought donuts and coffee too! Everyone was so professional and so helpful. Special shout-out to Jeffrey for helping me set up my equipment and for giving me some good tips and pointers. I will definitely do events with them again. Another plus was seeing a familiar face, Jessie, at the event. She has helped me a couple times in the shop and she is always so kind and helpful.
