A great inexpensive community pool, with a shallow pool for kids…read more We wanted a couple of hours of cooling down after a day of hiking (Jun 2026). We tried out the pool at the George C. Edwards Community Aquatic and Recreation Complex at Garrett College. It's a full set of athletic facilities. We focussed on the kid's pool. It's at the end of the large lap pool. We spent most of our time in the 2ft-8in-deep shallower somewhat-separate section of the kids' pool, which the younger children (and their parents) were more comfortable in. The 3-year-olds entered via a long ramp, and made forays from the separate stairs to practice short swims to their parents. By the end of an hour, they were bravely taking swims in the middle of that shallow area. The 7-year-old swam happily end-to-end there, and then accompanied an adult into the larger deeper main 4ft-3in-deep section of the kids' pool. And at the end, we turned on the jacuzzi-like bubbling in the shallow section, much to everyone's delight! A grand finale! Most of us stayed with the kids, though one or two,swam some laps in the adjacent adult pool. The cost was quite reasonable! $15 for one adult, or $30 for four. Seniors and teens $10, younger $5, below 6-yrs-old for $2. On weekends, there's hours when it's only $6 per person! You pay at a small desk just inside the entrance, just past the Amazon delivery lockers and the shelf of shared books to read. We all burned off excess energy before dinner. And we saw a beaver in the grassy area on the right as we turned north on Garrett Highway afterwards! A perfect afternoon!

Trevor has opened a gym that you will not find in most places. The atmosphere is great for those who are looking for that OG gym style. You have bodybuilders training, powerlifters, beginners, boxers and the others. The equipment is clean and you'll find machines you won't see anywhere else. Everyone can just focus on themselves in a real environment. You get a key tag with your monthly membership that is 24/7 access. There's a huge leg section also I didn't get a pic of yet and also a supplement shop that is inside as well, TV's playing fitness tips and talk shows. If you want a real gym and want to break out of the mold Iron Forged Gym is the place to go, period.

The city of Cumberland is a little more old school, reminds me of the 1980s, but this gym has very modern equipment . In the many times I have been here, it has never been crowded. The locker room is always clean and also very modern. 90% of the cardio equipment has attached TVs, and there is a large giant fan over top that keeps you very cool. There is a spin room in the back as well. They also have a smoothly bar with so many flavors. I always add a scoop of protein after my workouts. The taste is wonderful and the price is right. Plenty of parking outside, and they have standard gym hours. Definitely the best gym in Cumberland.

Most of the times I do have available are during the peak hours of the gym, so its beyond crowded. I was then looking for gyms in the nearby Cumberland area, and came across Life Fitness Management tucked away in LaVale. Its hard to find the gym, as it is on the corner of the buffet. When I signed up for the gym, I got a student discount and only had to pay $30! The gym is very big inside, and there is a separate area for weight training, aerobics, and cardio workout, so it never seems crammed. Most of the cardio machines have TVs, so you are able to watch what you want on your own without having to share a TV. The machines are also spread far apart, so you don't have to worry about people being up in your space. The bathrooms and locker rooms in the gym are very nice and don't look like your high school gym lockers. They also have a couple of showers and saunas in the back you can use at anytime you want. The staff is very nice and always greets you. They also have a shake bar with some good flavors to choose from after your workout. All within a reasonable price. I have been a member at this gym for almost two years now, and I am much more satisfied paying $30 for a gym that is clean and spacious rather than use the crowded local school gym.
