Deep Eddy Pool is an Austin institution! I spent many years at deep Eddie pool with family, friends and colleagues. It's nothing like swimming on a hot summer day. Your first impression of the pool will probably be wow it's large with so many lanes and many areas where you can just swim or float to your hearts content. Another impression might be and it was especially for me the bright blue water of the pool. It looks refreshing, cool, and inviting. Deep Eddiy pool has a oblong shape typical of large pools of its size. The pool has architecturally clean lines with precise corners. When you stand on the pool platform the vastness of the pool rushes to the forefront. Everytime I stick my foot in the water of the Deep Eddy pool, that cool refreshing feeling envelopes my body. I've lived in Austin for 5 years and finally made it to this Austin institution! Deep Eddy Pool has cool, spring fed water which feels amazing on a blistering hot summer day. There is no shade to speak of when in the water, so be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen. They have lockers to store valuables on site, but you need to bring your own lock. They also have dedicated dressing/shower areas and relatively clean toilets. If you don't use a locker, you have to place everything on the sides of the pool in the grass/dirt (be sure to bring a picnic blanket if you plan to hang out there at all). The grass/dirt area is nicely shaded. No beverages apart from water is allowed by the pool. Entry fees were $5/person for Austin residents. It was an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. read more

Ok if you're desperate for some water. The water was crisp and cool even on a 99° day in August Half the pool is designated for swimming laps. There are no lounge chairs so bring a blanket for the ground and expect it to get dirty because people have to sit in the grass/dirt. There are a few trees for shade. No alcohol or food/drink allowed. I brought in my water bottle and no one said anything so I guess water is ok There is a parking lot but you must pay to park and it gets filled quickly Bike trails lead up to it Locker rooms are half indoor/half outdoor and rather dingy. Several lifeguards on duty. periodically they make everyone get out of the pool for 5 min (one an hour?) There needs to be someone skimming the pool throughout the day..there's a ton of bugs/leaves that get in the water. Also, since people lounge on the dirt lawn, everyone's feet are dirty when getting in the pool. The pool ropes had some sort of black sludge caked into them. It was pretty gross. $5 for an adult. Parking is a nightmare but worth it once you make it inside. This is the 2nd time we've come here and both times their kiosks where you pay for the entry fee seem to have an issue. They offer a place to use a restroom/shower/change (located in the entrance). You're not allowed to eat near the pool, but they do offer an area where you're able to eat. The lap/deep pool was green this time around due to algae growth. This didn't deter people from swimming in it, but we avoided it like the plague. read more

The oldest pool in Texas with spring-fed water keeping water temps around 68 degrees year-round. There is so much history surrounding the pool and its land. In the 1850s a Swedish immigrant built a house on the land (approximately 39 acres). In 1902 the Deep Eddy Resort was opened by his kids. Cottages, camping, and so much more. Over the centuries it changed hands and was purchased by City of Austin. After being destroyed by flooding, it was completely rebuilt. I like that there is a separate pool for lap swimming. Plenty of grass areas for blankets, towels, relaxing when out of the water. Upper level has tables for eating. The pools and grounds are immaculate making for comfortable and pleasurable swimming and relaxing. Kiosks for payment to enter or cash at the front desk. Can also download an app and purchase as well (easiest option). Only $5 for residents. Parking is tricky. The lot is SMALL. We always opt to park a couple of streets over and walk. read more

Was all set to go to Barton Springs today (Thursday) only to realize it's closed on Thursdays! So, Deep Eddy pool to the rescue! I've not been to any of Austin's swimming holes or public pools and after reading some reviews online I was a bit skeptical for what I'd encounter at Deep Eddy but I was pleasantly surprised! The parking lot is definitely NOT big and I can see how on a weekend it would be a nightmare for parking but at 10am on a Thursday, I was able to find a spot in the lot with no issue. Kiosks at the end of the parking lot are NOT for parking (I thought they were) but rather for tickets to enter the pool. You have to use the kiosks if you're using card, $5 for adult residents (you can pay with cash at the entry but must have exact change). The pool itself was clear and blue (not what I expected after reading reviews) and there is a specific area for lane swimming/laps. Lifeguards are stationed around the pool which is great. The only issue I had was with seating/lounging. There definitely aren't many options but there are spots on the small "hill" to lay out a sheet or towel. Shade and sun were open when I went. Overall, I thought this was a great pool option if you're looking for one! I can absolutely understand how parking could be a nightmare but if you go early on a weekday, enjoy without issue! read more

Brought my nephew here to bake in the Texas heat. The water was very refreshing. Natural spring water and huge pool. Half of the pool you can do laps whereas the other half is shallow with a zero entry section. It was free entry the day we went which made it even sweeter! Would bring multiple towels or a blanket to lay on the dead grass and a large sun hat next time. Also never have seen so many people sun tan with their body spread out like a starfish! I saw a few tik toks regarding how great Deel Eddy pool was so I had to check it out for myself. This is the oldest pool in the state of Texas which makes this another cool attraction too. When we arrived parking was a bit of a challenge but after a few rounds of driving around we found a spot. After parking we went to the kiosk to purchase our tickets. They were checked at the entrance and we were allowed in. There is a long stairway down to the pool area. At the end of the steps we found a shaded place to put our stuff under a tree. There's lots of space at this pool for your family to relax. Fair warning, this water is cool but you do adjust pretty quickly. The water was also very clean as well. Deep eddy is a great public pool alternative to Barton Springs. Pretty expansive pool that is great for kids and plenty of seating. Unlike Barton, Deep Eddy has a slope from 0 to 4 ft. of water on one end and lap pool / 8ft deep end on the other side. Went on a Sunday morning around 11:00 and really wasn't crowded at all. Plenty of places to lay out in the sun or shade. The filters didn't seem to be working a whole lot as there was a lot of debris and bits in the water, but it was not bad. If you're below a certain age and come without a parent, you have to do a quick swim test in front of a lifeguard but it's simple and pretty easy. The only thing I didn't like about Deep Eddy Pool is that if you get snacks/food or anything at the concession stand, you have to get enough to pay at least $5 or $7 of food or something like that, so you can't just get one thing. The deep eddy pool is a fun place to get really really cold on a really hot summer day. Don't bring sugar drinks or snacks because the ants will try to eat it plus, they don't allow it except upstairs. Take a look at the murals at the far end of the pool it's amazing. I love the tiny details that are in that mural, if you want a way to cool down and by the way, parking is very hard to come by if you're interested in getting a parking space close to the entrance you might have to do alseveral circles around the parking lot read more

I want to love this place but I've gone several times and it's just not great. It feels filthy, like you are swimming in pee. There are a couple of lifeguards that are incredibly rude and aggressive. The grass has stickers in it. The food policy is ridiculous. People slip and fall all the time and the slick walkways. I honestly think they are trying to make it terrible and unfriendly so it's not too crowded, but yet it still is. read more

Deep Eddy is a beautiful pool for a good workout. It's 33 1/3 yards long, which makes for a nice challenge when swimming laps. I got there when it opened at 8am to claim a lane away from the hardcore former olympian-looking swimmers. Each lane had about 2-3 people sharing the lane. The aquifer water isn't chlorinated, and it was really cold. Admission is currently free, and there was plenty of parking in the early morning on a Thursday. read more

Apparently there is a "zero tolerance policy" on food and drinks in the pool area. How do I know this? Not because it's posted ANYWHERE at the facility. But because when my wife was feeding goldfish crackers to my 3 yo and 18 mo, the manager told us that we would have to leave. We were told if we did not leave they would call the police. We explained we were sorry, we didn't realize there was a rule against food and drink, and that we would not feed our children anymore. He said because of the policy he had no choice but to force us to leave. I asked him to speak to the manager, to which he said "I am the manager." I asked who his direct report was. He said the Austin Aquatic Division was his direct report. I asked him how many times a day does he find himself forcibly removing people from the pool over this, and he said "A lot more than I'd like". I told him they need to inform people of this policy and that the person collecting every person's ticket needs to verbally let every person with a bag know they will be kicked out with no warning if they fall foul of the rule. He said "They're supposed to do that." I told him we were not told that, and he said "Well then if they don't then they can get written up." I replied, "So they get written up, but we just get kicked out even though they failed to tell us.." He said "Yep." I don't have an issue with a rule against food/drink at a pool. But to forcibly remove a family of four over goldfish is beyond absurd. No one is forcing this d-bag to kick out families. He could uphold the food/drink rule by telling people if they don't throw away or get rid of their food then they would have to leave. He's choosing to be an a$s because he has nothing better to do. We watched multiple people drinking their alcohol out of Yeti mugs and not get reprimanded. The easiest target in enforcing your asinine "policy" [that I still have yet to see corroborated anywhere online] is a family giving snacks to their child. Absolutely pathetic excuse for a human. I did see people with snacks so they might be a little more lenient when it comes to bringing in food/beverages than Barton Springs. Very family friendly! If you live in West Austin this is definitely the place for you. This nice little hidden gem is refreshing considering how overcrowded Barton pool has become. It's a nice neighborhood crowd and the water is fresh and cool. Very clean and the staff is alert to help watch after any kids that might go astray. Parking is pretty easy and most of the time it's not as busy as you would think. The location is perfect and I even took the kids there with my mother who is elderly and she also had a great time. read more

Nice open-air lap pool with at least 8 lanes. Seems that it is a natural spring so water was cool but ok for a workout, even in mid-January. People using the pool were pleasant and considerate, asked about sharing lanes, waited, etc. Price was right too - it was free! Had a small open-air locker room and hot shower. Wow! How lucky Austinites are to have such a lovely place to swim daily in beautiful earth filled cold filtered water. The pool is painted light blu, so it looks as good as is feels:) The deepest part is around 8 ft then comes to a slope where it gets more shallow. But instead of having an ambience of outside nature similar to Barton Creek, Deep Eddy is located near the heart of our fair city Austin. The water is cold. As expected of natural spring water. The pool is pretty damn huge too, so you shouldn't have a problem accidentally bumping onto kids if you decide to swim back and forth outside the lap lane. Parking is atrocious. So is the fee to enter. If you want a free pool, come to the North. Or at least cheaper entry fees. Deep Eddy mostly has a bunch of kids. It's not the prettiest pool in town, nor is a fancy one, but on a hot and sweltering day the cold spring water makes it an oasis in a humid desert. It's huge, separated by a wall with one side for lap swimming and the other for just horsing around. It's deep on the other side of the wall (lap swimming) and the water is much colder, too.
