Had a great time at the actual pool but when I left to go home I found that my car was burglarized even though I had parked right in their public parking lot (overflow side) in broad daylight next to the park ranger station. The Park Ranger said they see it happen all the time cars getting burglarized in the parking lot. I wish I would have known. I would have just taken an Uber. :( read more

First time coming to the pool took my daughter and family here for the very first time I lived in Austin my whole life. I've never in counter someone so Racist. The old man that takes payment in the front was not very nice. He is very rude and seems like he don't like his job. I stated that my mom did not know English and I was there to let him know she will be paying for her self and her granddaughters. He ignores me and acted like he did not understand .He had a bad attitude with us the entire time. Do not recommend you to go here I though we had left racism's behind. Been going to deep eddy for years, but I'm crossing my fingers that it will stay a semi-hidden gem as an iconic Austinie stuff for Austin residents. Travelers please go to Barton Springs, and stop reading here. Ok for Austin residents: This place is awesome for those who like things to be orderly. They have lap lanes, kiddo pool, and 8 feet adult pool hangout area. No drinks, no food in the pool area to keep this place clean and no fire ants. They used to have some stickers, but that got improved over the years. Now I can go bare foot on the grassy area. The crowd is smaller, the pool is organized and clean. You will see people hanging out, and serious swimmers to swim, families with kids having fun all in groups and specific area. It's very peaceful and fun. No diving board. No splash, people can actually read a bold The water is super cold. It's awesome to jump in the water in a super super hot day in Texas. It is well water and clean. They also have movie night which is fun. If you find parking bad, please don't come, so you are making parking easier for me. The parking is bad. To be fair, they have overflow parking lot, and you can park by the lake and walk over. Damn, did I just share my secret parking spot? Ok the parking is bad. Please don't come. There is a $5 entrance fee accepted in case. There is a machine from outside that you can pay by credit card to get ticket. I'm considering buying a seasonal pass. There are weekends, all I have on my mind is to get a tan and cool off at Deed eddy on both Saturday and Sunday. Please don't turn deep eddy into Barton springs. Really neat natural pool with swim lanes, lifeguards and a grassy knoll fed by the Colorado river. Clean and safe. Nice view of the river and hillside. Free, sizable parking lot. They only take cash at the entrance but if you have a card their are ticket machines in the parking lot you can use. read more

Currently the kiddie pool is closed for the season. However the lap pool is still lifeguarded during the day, and entry is free. It was a bit cold when I first got in the water, but the facilities are good, and there was plenty of space for all the swimmers. Solar heated showers help you warm up after. There is a family restroom, but otherwise they're still divided into male and female facilities. In the summer expect to pay to get in and have a much bigger crowd. They do evening movie showings where you can sit in the kiddie pool and watch a film. Occasionally there is a food stand with things on offer as well, but it's been so long since I came to a summer movie, so I can't speak to the exact brand of food. There is quite a bit of parking, but expect it to be more challenging in the summer. read more

Deep Eddy is a spring-fed pool that combines the best of both worlds. It's a natural pool with crisp, cold water and has a structure of an Olympic-style pool. It's a bit easier to swim in than it's sister, Barton Springs, so you'll find a lot more kids and families here. Parking is challenging, but if you can find a spot, it's a quick jaunt inside. They have card readers now, so it's no longer cash only. The ticketing booths are outside in the parking lot. Once you have your ticket, you can walk into the front desk and then they'll let you into the pool. The seating here is hard, because of ants. You're better off bringing a float and chilling in the water the entire time. They have a concession booth and a food-friendly area where you can grab a snack and overlook the scenery. I'd recommend getting to the pool early, because there were still cars circling at 5PM when we left, they are always busy in the summer. read more

The pool was very green and murky with algae and leaves all over. Seems like the pool is not filtered very well. Would not recommend.

This is no ordinary swimming pool. This is a special place, with an amazing story. Deep Eddy is on the National Register of Historic Places and for good reason. It is the oldest swimming pool in Texas (that's right, not just Austin). You may have caught onto the history here when you noticed the beautiful stone entry and changing rooms, these were some of the original bathhouse buildings built as part of the Works Progress Administration during the depression area. It would have been incredible to have seen the Lorena's Diving Horse show and swing by on the zip line that all used to be a part of this beautiful place. Today you will find a beautiful swimming pool remaining that is spring fed, which means chlorine free. There is an open swim area, and a designated area for lap lanes. Which I found awesome. There is a beautiful grass knoll on the side to enjoy laying in the sun between swim sessions. Entrance was only $3 (cash only) and be sure to get a stamp if you leave to go to the car to get free entrance back in. The parking lot is average sized, and would definitely fill up in the afternoon on a hot day. I recently came to enjoy the last summer movie night of 2013 at Deep Eddy hosted by Alamo Drafthouse - The Avengers. The movie started when the sun went down, but we came at 7:00pm, which was definitely the perfect time to grab a parking spot and a space on the grass knoll. We brought our floaties and watched the first part of the movie in the water. It got a bit cold, so we retreated to our blanket on the grass. You can bring in drinks and food but nothing in glass. The floaties are a bit hard to navigate, but the experts seemed to line up either at the edge to hold on, or by the rope so they didn't continuously need to fight to keep from drifting into people. The movie sound and quality was great. They even used subtitles just incase. The entrance fee remains the same for the movie nights, just the standard $3. I would HIGHLY recommend a movie night, there is a mailing list for Deep Eddy, so be sure to join to find out when the next events will be occurring. Note, I learned that as part of Austin City code, all pools have a break time at 5 to the hour in which everyone has to leave the pool for a bit to ensure everyone is OK and takes a break. read more

If I was an Austin local, I'd be here at least a few times each summer. But at as a tourist it's a great stop if you have time but not a must see. First off, it's a few bucks more if you aren't from Austin. When you get in at the end of the day it is just a local neighborhood pool. The deep end is a bit deeper and the other side is huge so you can separate yourself from the kids. They have an area designated from lap swimming too. The water is super chilly since it's spring fed. This is great in a hot summer day. Parking is a HUGE pain, so cross your fingers and hope for the best. read more

Barton Springs is cold, crowded, and filled with these yucky plants that wrap around your ankles when you're treading water. In contrast, Deep Eddy is calm, serene, spring fed, and the perfect temperature. There are lots of nice shaded areas and it's always pretty quiet. And I've never had a problem finding parking. I love coming here during the week, if at all possible to swim laps. I'm assuming it's way too crowded on the weekends. Technical Details: I called and they told me that each lap is 100 feet. So if you swim 15 laps (one lap equals there and back), then you swam about half a mile. I wish they had this information posted somewhere. I also went into the Circle Swim lane, having no clue what that was. Some lady left and a new lady, with armpits bushier than an East Austin hipster's beard, asked if I wanted to circle swim. I asked her what it was and she told me. Luckily, we didn't have to do it, since there were only two of us. (It's a little dance that three people trying to swim in one lane would have to do in order for it to work--a little hard to describe without a picture.) Fun Trivia: Deep Eddy is the oldest public swimming pool in Texas. It was originally a private resort and had a diving horse and a diving baby attraction and a zip line, oh, and a ferris wheel. The cold of Barton Spring without the natural distinction, Deep Eddy pool is located just off the Mopac Bridge portion of the Hike and Bike trail (technically called Eilers Park), and like Barton Springs, costs $3 to get in, and like Barton Springs, is spring-fed. I used to park under Mopac and walk across the bridge to the pool for stroke lessons, and the city heat at sunset mixed with a saxophone player on the bridge...(sigh)..kind of magical. Visited Deep Eddy for the first time yesterday. I am embarrassed that I had lived in Austin for 10+ years and never been here before. It's gorgeous! Entry is only $3 for adults and free for babies under 1. My baby loved the pool - the wade in entrance is perfect for little ones! The cool water was incredibly refreshing this hot summer. We went on a Thursday morning and it wasn't too too crowded. It does seem like parking could be a problem during peak hours. There are lanes marked off for lap swimmers and the shallow end is very kid friendly. Something for everyone! read more

Love this place! Newly renovated changing rooms and bathrooms! It's cheap to get in $3 for adults. The pool is beautiful and clean. I highly recommend this pool for anyone (adults, kids, families). There are quite a few steps from the parking down to the pool, so make sure you dont have to carry a bunch of stuff and a tired child... They also have movies on the grass after sunset. Im gonna make it my mission to visit all of the spring fed pools ATX has to offer and so far ive done 2...3 bucks gets ya in if your a local and its basically a large pool but instead of horrible chlorinated water you have spring water...divine...a shallow end and a deep end....the lifeguards blow the whistle ever so often to make folks "take a break" and vacate the pool...no big deal,you need to put more sunscreen on, get some water etc...the time flies then your back in the fun again! really really like this spot... read more

I've recently added swimming laps at Deep Eddy to my workout routine, and in general I've been pretty pleased. The pool has no chlorine (yay), is long enough for challenging laps (100 ft per length), and the cold water feels great on these super hot days, and I think it actually helps with inflammation, kind of an overall body ice bath. There are two drawbacks, however: - Parking can be challenging, esp in the summer. The lot is small, and lots of folks park there without going to the pool, but rather to walk Town Lake trail or go to the little park. - There's a weird vibe from a few of the regulars there, as if they own the place. A lot of people make jokes about being yelled at by these dicks; it's such a shame that folks feel being rude is acceptable. I don't give a crap about what they think, and I've already yelled right back at the first dickhead who tried to bark at me. Other than rude entitled twits, Deep Eddy Pool is a great way for me to get my swim in, cool off, and enjoy another aspect of Austin. read more

If you love Barton Springs Pool, then you will love Deep Eddy Pool. The changing rooms at Deep Eddy are really nicely done - lots of room with a very open feel. The pool is large - the West end of the pool is all shallow (wonderful for small children) while the East end has some dedicated swim lanes with deeper water- very nice. Definitely a family-friendly pool, Deep Eddy is a beautiful place that is so much fun! Yes, it is spring water and yes, it is cool water but the water is not as cold as Barton Springs Pool. This is a wonderful place to just hang out on a hot Austin day. Finding a parking spot is tough sometimes, but seek and ye shall find. Highly recommended! read more

I love Deep Eddy. The water is always cold and it's chlorine free which means that you don't have to feel like your eyes and nose have been violated every time you put your head under. There's lots of shade from the surrounding trees and the result is that it feels more like a swimming hole in a river than it does like a swimming pool surrounded by concrete. Better yet, it's right on the Lady Bird Johnson Lake trail, so you can swing by to hop in the pool and cool off after a run/hike/walk around the lake. Very little is that refreshing. read more

Fun place to go with the family, definitely should go when the weather is hot as heck since the water is pretty cool. Pool is divided in three sections, recreational, lap and free swim. Perfect toddler since it has a walk in entrance to the water. Bring your own floaties for the kids, did not see any provided. Overall a fun place to stay cool during the Texas summers. read more

Nice open pool with zero level entry in one side and lap lanes on the other. Great place to take kids or people who might not be strong swimmers. We went on a weekday and it wasn't crowded at all. I came to Deep Eddy when it was super quiet. A few lap swimmers, a few Moms with tots - it was serene. The water was super cold, but we were able to get used to it after a little while. Not being a resident of Austin, my fee to get in was a steep $8. For residents, it is $3. I'm definitely removing a star for that one, and I'm glad I was prepared with extra cash. Otherwise, the facilities are nice - the showers and changing rooms are a nice little tropical oasis with plants, (hibiscus, and large leafed plants) and everything was mostly clean. There was a splash of green stuff, (I'm hoping it was some sort of smoothie spilled) on the floor but other than that, not so bad. I'd come back here, it was a good experience. read more

Haven't been here since I was about five. Forty years later, I went on not a very busy day and the pool was gross. Many things floating around, hair, dead bugs, more hair...I didn't stay long and was disappointed. I think if you don't mind paying the fee then mosey on over to Barton Springs pool, it's the same. Cleaner, bigger, nicer grounds...the grass was dead and crunchy at Deep Eddy today. I guess that's the difference between spring fed and well fed pools? It was not what I expected to say the least. Smiling and glowing while rubbing lotion onto her beautiful skin, her stomach, her legs, her breasts... she looked over at Michelle and me in the locker room and, with beautiful big blue eyes and stunning white hair, she *smiled*. A woman completely comfortable in her own skin is a beautifully delicious and regrettably rare find. "Beverly?" "Yes?" "Congratulations!" "Oh, thanks!" We talked with her about her transcendent experience of beating the previously held Deep Eddy Mile record by SEVEN minutes. This morning I sang, "it's a small world" as I ran into her on the Lady Bird Johnson Hike and Bike trail and she said her mile time of 34:20 was better than all of the 60 year olds and most of the 50 year olds. I looked at her in the eyes and told her she has inspired me and I said, "Next year, I am going to swim the Deep Eddy Mile and my goal is to beat your time." She said, "Well, next year I am shooting for 33 minutes... how fast do you swim now?" "Well, Probably more like 50 minutes." "GIRL! You better speed up if you want to beat me. You're going to have to get with the program, you know, SWIM!" "Yeah, well, I have a year, Beverly, so you had better watch it." "How old are you?" OK, Beverly... you win. Tourists come to Austin and bathe at Barton Springs. Locals do that too but they also come to Deep Eddy Pool. In my opinion Deep Eddy is one of the biggest gems of Austin. This is the oldest swimming pool in the state of Texas (around 100 years old). It is also massive in size. The water is the same cold, clear water that is in Barton Springs, ie: NOT chlorinated pool water. The biggest section of Deep Eddy is ironically the shallow section, that starts off at a few inches and goes to about 4 feet deep. This area is the only area you are allowed to float on floating devices (and it is only open part of the year). There are several lap lanes dividing the shallow end of Deep Eddy from the deep end. On the other side of the lap lanes is the deep end, which appears to be about 8 feet deep. Besides the throngs of children you will find here in the summer months you will almost always stumble upon a very dedicated group of lap swimmers, mostly in their 60s and 70s. I really enjoyed coming during the weekday when the pool had very few people in it (except for the dedicated lap swimmers) and just lounging in my flotation device and reading a book on a towel under the shaded trees. During the summer months you can see movies like Grease playing on a projection screen they bring for the the summer splash movie series. Deep Eddy has a snack house that offers soft drinks, snacks and candy. The biggest plus to Deep Eddy is the renovated bath house. It is so wonderful. The design is very open (including an open ceiling), with showers and sinks to wash in or just get wet before entering the water. Nothing beats coming to Deep Eddy during the blazing hot Texas summer/fall months and cooling off in the spring fed water, then walking up the stairs to the new bath house and showering and changing. It is a true catharsis experience and at $3 much cheaper than paying for a spa treatment somewhere else. If you have not experienced this place you need to come here. PS: They are working on a mural project with local Austin elementary and middle school students that will reflect the history of Deep Eddy and connect their parking lot to Lady Bird Lake trail that runs outside the pool. Do you seek solace, inner-peace, self-enrichment? Do you dislike sweating your ass off in the Texas heat? Do you like swimming in cold, fresh (unchlorinated) water? Or maybe you just drive down MoPac everyday in rush hour traffic? If any of this sounds like you, then Deep Eddy Pool is the place to be. I come here during the summer to avoid sitting in traffic. I like to lay out a towel under the huge pecan tree at the east end of the pool, and jump directly into the water. The water never varies from 70° year round, since it's spring fed from a source slightly higher than Barton Springs (which is 68° and notably colder). The entire pool is drained for cleaning at the end of every day, so it's always clean and refreshing. During the summer Deep Eddy Pool releases a schedule for movies that they project onto a huge screen right at the water's edge. Like the swim-up version of a drive-in theater. I took my daughters to watch Iron Man (I think?) at the end of the Summer. Everyone had an excellent time, but don't park in the apartments nearby, because my car was towed that night. Even considering the massive pain in the ass of getting my car back from the impound it was still worth going to the Summer Movie Series at Deep Eddy. You know what America could use a lot more of? Nothin'. As in nothin' to do but live. Sippin' lemonade on the front porch, flippin' burgers on the grill, finding a shady spot to lay the blanket in the park. Austin is a perfect town to do nothin' right, and Deep Eddy Pool is a terrific public monument to the glory of nothin'. Spring fed, the water is mighty cold, which I imagine is a Godsend in the middle of the humid summer; in early spring, we couldn't handle a dip more than a few minutes. Admission was cheap, but eat before you go because you're not allowed to encourage the fire ants or tent caterpillars to grow bigger than they already are. Great place to bring the kids... which is why I'm gonna wait until the end of summer to return here. I generally only go to Deep Eddy when Barton Springs is closed, as I did last Thursday. When school is in session, the pool is nice and relaxing. The shallow end is gargantuan, and all the kiddies stay over there to leave the deep end to the adults. This week, however, both sides were overrun with kids of all ages, splashing around and generally just being kids. It was waay too crowded for my swimming tastes. The parking lot also gets super crowded and difficult to navigate. So for the Spring and Fall months, I give it 4 stars. Summer, 3.. I have lived in Austin for 42 years and my family and myself have never ever been treated so poorly at the front desk of any pool. As if an old lady would try to sneak in and not pay the 2 dollars or my family hearing them yell and scream at people for walking by the booth. The old guy screamed at me, lifeguard could see me he was facing the pool and all I was doing was going to see why it was taking my family so long to leave, just stood there looking at the poolside and the guy continued to yell at me, until I yelled a choice few words to him.
