I'm on a mission to visit as many of the playgrounds around me. I feel like Austin Playgrounds need a better way to find them, the Austin parks & Rec website doesn't show enough about what the experiences at each one are really like. That being said, Ramsey is a five minute drive for us so the convenience is great. Parking is on the street and while I've always been able to find a spot, during peak play times you might have to circle the block and perfect your parallel parking skills. One of the main reasons I knocked a star off is the bathroom situation. Points for having bathrooms, but we only use them in emergencies. They're about as clean as you'd expect a park bathroom to be but they could absolutely use a little bit of updating. There is no soap available. I almost think I'm expecting too much but I've been to many playgrounds in major cities that were clean and had all the items you need for hygiene. (No changing tables here.) The playground is nice, it is separated in to two parts where one side seems a little more suited for older kids and the other side has some things toddlers can climb and play on. Lot of space for imaginative play with the boulders and "cave" they can get into. There is also a basketball court, tennis court, and a medium sized field to run around in. Decent park for the kiddos. Like that there's a tennis court and pool. Good crowds and gets pretty busy during the weekends. Like that there are levels of slides and some swings throughout. With that said, it's not my favorite park though and this is why - missing a sandbox. There's a hospital nearby with occasional sirens and my kid and some others keep running towards the noise wanting to see an ambulance/firetruck/police car and nothing preventing the kids from running into the street. A fence or wall would have been nice, atleast by the playground area to limit the # of exit points. Lastly, it can be a little dirtier compared to some of the other parks I have been to in the area. But overall, a decent park, love the neighborhood and the big trees, and good vibes overall. read more

Such a great park, definitely one our favorites. There is sufficient shade and a few playgrounds to accommodate different age groups. They have a paved path around the park which allows for easy strolling. Tennis courts are available. Parking is easy. read more

Great neighbourhood pool in a lovely setting. Large trees provide lots of shade around the pool and surrounding area - most welcome in the hot summer! My son swam here every weekday for five weeks. He and his buddy would then play on the tennis courts, and move on to the playground. All these areas are close by each other, so that supervising adults can sit in one spot to keep an eye out. That is, unless your children are very, very small. In that case, you know that you do not yet have that luxury! No actual parking lot, but parallel parking is readily available in the immediate area. read more

Wow...so color me surprise! I usually do not frequent neighborhood pools...the dirty, rude, and usually unattended kids...if I wanted this sort of CDC exposure I'd watch Outbreak and/or visit Atlanta. But, to my surprise...this free community pool was actually bearable, dare I say, enjoyable? They have semi-decent/clean changing facilities/bathrooms, a freshwater shower, AND a roped-off-from-the-masses swim lane! There are two lifeguards on duty and every so often they clear the pool for 5mins. The deep end is an enjoyable 8ft w/a separated @5ft mark "kiddie pool"! Ramsey park is home to Austin's oldest pick up softball game. Every Sunday, usually about 2pm, a collection of lawyers and thieves shed their sociological differences and play the democratic American game. Women are welcome and often some of the women playing there are better than some of the men. It happens. I understand that this game goes back to the 1950s. One of the old timers told me he remembers playing there when they planted the tree in centerfield. This is an Austin treasure. read more

This is a great neighborhood park. At one end, there's a baseball field. At the other, there's Ramsey Pool, tennis courts, two swing sets, a playscape, and a awesome metal slide that's so tall that I'm surprised no one's fallen off and sued the city. (If you're really insecure or litigious, please stay away.) The pool has a few roped-off lanes for swimming laps. There's a deep section for people who can swim and a shallower end for kids. The shallow end is deeper than at Deep Eddy; if you have three-year-olds, you'll need to wrap them in a flotation device or hold them. There's a big, neighborhood July 4 party here every year. There are also frequent birthday parties. And then right across the street are nice, old houses. If you have young children, definitely check it out. read more

About the pool, Anna writes in her review, "Bonus points for its unusually warm water." Kids are peeing in it all day long, keeping the temperature up. At least that's my thinking and it's why I've never used the pool. My dog takes me to Ramsey park once, twice, three times a day. Great playground, and especially friendly for toddlers. Plenty of activities for young ones, and some nice shade to enjoy it in. Well used, lots of children, but with responsible parents observing. It is what it is, a simple park, usually under construction somewhere. This place gets busy on sunny days after it rains. Mainly kids and dogs. The pool did not have any water in it at all last year. The tennis courts are adequate for some practice or rec play, but nothing official. The lights do come on in the evening. Usually plenty of parking around the edge of the park. The bathrooms are pretty decent, usually open, and clean. Dangerous getting back on to 45th street, be careful! read more

This is a solid park! It has an awesome jungle jim creation (way more intricate and creative than a regular jungle jim), faux tree stumps that are hollow for kids to play within, a shaded and paved pavilion and new play equipment. It also has designated shaded/mulched play areas, because this is Texas and it gets hot. Best of all, the wild monk parakeets of Austin are often here flying around, all green and cute. Only downside is the bathrooms. Most of the time, they are truly gross. Rarely is there soap to use. Best to bring hand sanitizer and try to avoid using the bathrooms if you can. read more

Had a kids birthday party there, it was great. They had so much fun and there's enough space and adiquate shade. AUSTIN parks doesn't require you to reserve a party space so on the plus side you save money, but on the negative side you ha e to jockey other parents for the good spots. Well, what can I say Ramsey park? You were the coolest thing on the planet the summer after 6th grade back in '92. My review comes from a special place..... 1992 kid brain. This parks got a pool and a basketball court and park, and a baseball or softball area, plus It's convenient and right in the heart of north Austin (in 1992, I considered this north austin). I took my nephew here yesterday and he loved it! It's a safe, clean neighborhood park with a couple of playscapes for the kiddos, swings, and a high slide that only the brave kids will do. All in all it was a nice place to enjoy an afternoon. There were dogs around and everybody was really nice. I haven't been to the pool yet but I'm sure I'll go when it opens this summer! read more

Ramsey park is really outstanding! I have three boys, ages 2, 3, and 4. We began going to the park about two months ago. The facility is awesome! There is an area for smaller children and an area for bigger kids. The equipment is all recently updated and super cool. My kids will spend hours over and over exploring, climbing, and socializing. The pool opened yesterday. It is a terrific added bonus! The pool is pretty simple. Its rather recently updated and clean. I feel extremely safe and comfortable here. It's great to be able to cool off and play at a fun and unique place like this! I am lucky enough to live very close to such a gem! read more

It's a little rough around the edges, but a gem nonetheless. My dog loves walking the sidewalk that surrounds it. I don't play, but the newly resurfaced tennis courts look awesome, and they're only occasionally being used. The playground equipment is new and pretty fun, and there's a basketball court. Sometimes you'll see a Shakespeare play acted out for a small crowd at the little amphitheater. It's a pretty active park for being only a couple blocks in size, and on the weekends during good weather the picnic tables are full of people celebrating birthdays and family get togethers. The pool is well maintained and clean, but pretty packed during prime times. For a peaceful pool, Sundays around Noon is when to go. read more

ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE! So many different ages and stages of life out on a Saturday morning. It's cool to see kids, teens, adults, and seniors all hanging out. Lots of people get together for mojo ball here on Saturdays and Sundays. Nice surrounding neighborhood/area. Just a walk away from medical district and cafes. read more
